CLASSIFIED AGAIN, WE'RE DOING THE WORK AND MAKING SURE THE CAMPUS IS READY FOR OUR STUDENTS.
I DID GET A SURPRISE WHEN THEY SPRAYED MY HANDLE TODAY AT AN
>> VALUE, KIND OF SURPRISED ME FOR A SECOND.

WE ARE MOVING RAPIDLY TOWARDS THAT MISSION SO WE CAN ALL HAVE A QUORUM FOR OUR UPCOMING LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SENATE MEETINGS AS WELL AND YEAH, THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT WE DISCUSSED.
[2.01 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of Classified Employee of the Month]
AND MOVING FORWARD, I'LL DEFINITELY BE MORE ACTIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND PROMOTING DIFFERENT ASCC GOING ON.>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR REPORT.
WE'LL MOVE ON TO 2 INSTITUTIONALLINGS HE PRESENTATION, A RECOGNITION OF OUR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH.
SO WE HAVE OUR E THE MONTH, IVET SHE IS OUR MAIL CLERK, SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR FROM PURCHASING.

>> THANK YOU EVERYONE, HAVE A GOOD EVENING.
>> A C O NGRATULATIONS AGAIN IVETTE.
THANK YOU EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS.
SO THAT CONCLUDES OPEN SESSION.
WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO ITEM 3 WHICH IS A CONSENT ITEM.
[3. Consent Items]
ITEM 3.01 THROUGH ITEMS 3.21.DOES ANY MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WISH TO PULL AN ITEM FROM THE CONSENT CALENDAR? OKAY, WOULD I JUST LIKE TO PULL ITEM 3.21 WHICH IS ACCEPTANCE OF STATE SUPPLY DONATION OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT.
SO I DON'T SEE ANYBODY ELSE CLAIMING ANY ITEMS SO I'LL GO AHEAD AND TAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CALENDAR ITEMS, 3.01 TO 3.20.
>> WE HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE LEWIS.
>> THANK YOU, WE HAVE A SECOND BY TRUSTEE SHINN LIU.
TRUSTEE LEWIS, YES, TRUSTEE LIU, YES,ING TRUSTEE PEREZ.
AND I'LL CIRCLE BACK TO TRUSTEE BIRKEY.
>> OKAY, GREAT, OKAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH, THAT MOTION IS APPROVED.
[3.21 Acceptance of State-Supplied Donation of Personal Protective Equipment]
SO DR. FIERRO WE WITH IMASK FOR A SHORT PRESENTATION ON ITEM 3.21 PLEASE.>> ABSOLUTELY, THANK YOU PRESIDENT PEREZ.
I WILL ASK VICE P LOPES TO WALK US THROUGH THIS ITEM.
>> YES, GOOD EVENING BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
IN MID JULY WE WERE I OR NOTIFIED THAT THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE WAS WORKING ON SUBMITTING PPE TO ALL 72 DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE.
MY OFFICE WAS CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE TO LET US KNOW WHAT THOSE ITEMS WERE GOING TO BE.
AND THEN WE HAD A SCHEDULE OF A DELIVERY OF THESE ITEMS. SO AS YOU NOTICE ON THE LISTING HERE, AS A COMPLETE INVENTORY OF WHAT IF STATES SUPPLIED US, I CAN GO THROUGH THEM REALLY QUICK, WHICH IS 960 N-95 MASKS,
[00:15:04]
968,000 SURGICAL 63,000 CLOTH MASKS, 9320, 16.9 OUNCE HAND SANITIZERS.600 DISPOSABLE FACEMASKS AND 50 INFRARED THERMOMETERS.
PART OF THIS WE WERE REQUIRED TO CERTIFY ACCEPTANCE OF THESE AND THEN ALSO PROVIDED NUMEROUS RULES OF HOUSE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO UTILIZE THESE.
CERTAIN RULES, WE WEREN'T ALLOWED TO GIVE MANY WE WERE TO USE THEM FOR OUR PURPOSES ON CAMPUS.
WE ALSO HAVE A DUTY TO T THESE ITEMS, SO WHEN THESE ARRIVED WE DID A COMPLETE INVENTORY OF THESE TO MAKE SURE WHAT WE HAVE OF THEM AND WE ARE KEEPING TRACK OF THE INVENTORY AS WE RELEASE THESE SUPPLIES OUT.
AND SO THE INTENT ON THESE NUMBERS IS TO 12-MONTH SUPPLY OF PPE FOR US FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS.
AND SO YOU SEE THESE NUMBERS, THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE INFORMED THEM THE INTENT WAS TO PROVIDE US A 12-MONTH SUPPLY OF PPE FOR US.
AND SO WE HAVE THESE I POSSESSION NOW.
WE HAVE CURRENTLY STARTED DISPERSING A NUMBER OF THESE THINGS OUT, TO VARIOUS FACULTY, THAT ARE ALSO DISPERSING THEM OUT TO SOME OF OUR TEMPERATURE STATIONS THAT WE CURRENT HAVE ON CAMPUS AND WIL CONTINUE TO USE THESE AS NEEDED.
>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ.
DO WE HAVE A MOTION FOR APPROVAL?
ANY DISCUSSION? ANY QUESTIONS? OKAY, SO SEEING --
I HAD A QUESTION REGARDING, WAS THERE DIRECTION, WRITTEN DIRECTION ON HOW THE PPE WERE BE DISTRIBUTED OR THERE WAS RESTRICTIONS OF COURSE ABOUT THEM BEING DISTRIBUTED.
IS THERE ANY WAY WE CAN FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THAT?
YOU MEAN WHAT WE CAN'T DO WITH IT, OR ONCE WE WERE PROVIDED THE PPE, WE WERE SUPPOSED TO UTILIZE IT FOR OUR PURPOSES ON CAMPUS.
SO PRIMARILY, FOR OUR USE ON CAMPUS.
BASICALLY, THE RESTRICTIONS, THEY DIDN'T WANT US TO RESELL IT, GIVE IT TO OTHER AGENCIES OR ORGANIZATIONS AND IT WAS PRIMARILY FOR OUR PURPOSES AND I THINK THAT WAS THE INTENT AND THE VOLUME OF THE PPE THAT WAS RECEIVED.
>> TO CIRCLE BACK ON TRUSTEE WALLACE'S QUESTION, WE HAVE A SPECIFIC DIRECTION IN HOW TO USE IT NOT HOW TO USE IT BUT HOW TO DISTRIBUTE THE EQUIPMENT.
>> SO IT'S ALL HANDLED THROUGH MY OFFICE.
SO AS REQUESTS COME IN, WE INVENTORY AND WE'VE BEEN SUPPLYING THOSE REQUESTS AS NEEDED.
SO AS A RESULT OUR FACULTIES THAT ARE TEACHING ONSITE WE PREPARED WHAT ARE CALLED CARE PACKAGES WHICH INCLUDE PACKAGES OF SURGICAL MASKS, THE CLOTH MASKS, HAND SANITIZER AS KIND OF THEIR CARE PACKAGE FOR THEM T UTILIZE WHILE THEY'RE ON CAMPUS.
WE PROVIDED A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT MASKS THROUGHOUT ALL OUR CLASSIFIED STAFF MANAGER STAFFING THAT ARE ON CAMPUS.
SO THAT'S PRIMARILY HOW WE'RE USING ITS.
WE HAVE A RETURN TO CAMPUS PLAN, AND WITHIN THAT HOW WE DISPERSE AND WHAT WE DISPERSE ON PPE TO FOLKS ON CAMPUS.
WE WILL CAN ASK FOR A ROLL CALL ON THIS ITEM.
AND TRUSTEE CAMACHO-RODRIGUEZ YES IN THE CHAT SO THE
[00:20:12]
MOTION PASSES.[4. Information Items]
>> NOW 4.01, FIRST READING, PROPOSED REVISION TO BOARD POLICY 2725.
IS THERE ANY PRESENTATION OR DISCUSSION ON THIS ITEM? SO WORK POLICY 2725 IS THE REVIEW OF THE POLICY COMPENSATION FOR THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES THE TIME LINE WHICH FACULTY SETTLE THEIR CONTRACTS.
AND THERE WAS A C PREVIOUS POLICY THAT WILL ALLOW THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO CONSIDER AN INCREASE OF UP TO 5%, DURING THE - A YEAR, DURING THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING.
THIS ALIGN WITH LEGAL REGULATIONS AND WITH ED CODE.
THE CHANGE ATHAT WAS MADE WAS TO MOVE AWAY WITH GETTING INCREASE IN COMPENSATION UNLESS FACULTY SALARIES HAD BEEN SETTLED.
BECAUSE OF THAT, ABOUT TWO OR THREE TIMES OVER THE LAST FIVE, SIX YEARS, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES HAS BEEN UNABLE TO APPLY THE SALARY INCREASE, BECAUSE SETTLING WITH FACULTY GOES BEYOND THE TIME LINE THAT THE BOARD IS ABLE TO RECEIVE AN INCREASE, AND THOSE INCREASES ARE NOT RETROACTIVE.
SO LET'S SAY YOU ARE CONSIDERING AN INCREASE FROM THE YEAR 19-20, AND WE GO AND SETTLE ON THE YEAR 21, WE CAN GIVE YO FOR 21 BUT NOT FOR 19-20.
BECAUSE THAT IS NOT RETROACTIVE.
SO THAT SAID, OVER THE LAST FIVE, SIX YEARS, HAS LOST THE OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE UP TO 5% A BASE SALARY.
SO THE CURRENT POLICY THAT YOU SEE BEFORE YOU ALIGNS THE LANGUAGE WITH ED CODE, AND WITH THE RECOMMENDATION AND WILL ALLOW YOU TO CONSIDER AN INCREASE OF 5% ON YOUR BASE SALARY DURING YOU REORGANIZATION MEETING ONCE A YEAR, INDEPENDENTLY OF WHETHER OR NOT ANY OF THE CONSTITUENT GROUPS ON CAMPUS HAVE SETTLED.
SO THAT IS A RECEIVE AND FILE INFORMATION, FIRST READING.
JUST FOR CLARITY, WE ALSO HAVE THE OPTION TO CONTINUE THE CURRENT PRACTICE, WHICH IS THAT WE WOULDN'T CONSIDER ANY ADJUSTMENT IN SALARY OUTSIDE OF THE CYCLE OF AGREEMENTS WITH THE UNIONS?
THE CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAVE THERE IS THAT YOU DO THAT ONCE A YEAR, AND WHEN YOUR YEAR EXPIRE, YOU CANNOT GO RETROACTIVELY AND APPLY TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
>> ALL RIGHT? SO YOU DON'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS YEAR, BUT ONLY THE YEAR IN WHICH THE CONTRACT WAS SETTLED FOR AS MANY YEARS THE CONTRACT HAS BEEN SETTLED.
BUT IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY BINDING US TO DO DIFFERENT? I MEAN PART OF WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING IN ASSUME IS IN PART JUST OUT OF A NORM THAT HAS TO SOME EXTENT?
I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT HISTORY BUT THE POLICY USED TO BE VERY SIMILAR DO WHAT YOU'RE SEEING TODAY.
THIS IS JUST AN UPDATED VERSION WITH A NEW LANGUAGE ON THE REGULATIONS.
AND THEN IT WAS CHANGED TO WHAT YOU SEE TODAY, THIS IS ESSENTIALLY REVERTING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POLICY.
[00:25:03]
YOU DON'T HAVE TO OBVIOUSLY DO IT.THERE ARE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? OKAY SO WE WILL GO AHEAD AND RECEIVE AND FILE THAT ITEM.
OKAY, ITEM NUMBER 4.02 IS THE COLLEGE COORDINATING COMMITTEE MINUTES FOR MAY 11, 2020.
DO ANY OF THE TRUSTEES HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS ITEM? OKAY, SO IF NOT, THAT ITEM WILL BE RECEIVED AND FILED.
ITEM NUMBER 4.03 IS THE ASCC FINANCIAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD ENDING JUNE 30TH, 2020.
SO I WILL ASK DR. FIERRO FOR A SHORT REPORT ON THIS ITEM.
>> I WILL THANK YOU ACCOUNT PRESIDENT PEREZ, AND REFER TO VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ.
>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
ATTACHED IN THIS ITEM I ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE ASSOCIATE STUDENT AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.
IT'S MADE UP OF A BALANCE SHEET AND INCOME STATEMENT ON THE VERY FIRST PAGE IS THE BALANCE SHEET, TOTALS ALL THE ASSETS WITHIN THE ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY, WHICH COMBINED IS -- HAS A TOTAL OF $1,812,625.
LISTED UNDER THE ASSETS ARE THE LIABILITIES AND FUND BALANCE.
CURRENTLY WE HAVE ABOUT $626,000 OF OUTSTANDING LIABILITIES.
AND WITH A REMAINING FUND BALANCE OF JUST SHY OF $1.2 MILLION.
ON THE SECOND PAGE IS T REVENUES AND EXPENSES FOR THE ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY SHOWING THE ENTRIES AND THE ACTUALS.
OBVIOUSLY THE EFFECTS O THIS YEAR, THE TOTAL BUDGETS OF THE REVENUES CAME A LITTLE SHORT IN COMPARISON TO WHAT THEY INITIALLY BUDGETED FOR.
EXPENSES ALSO CAME IN A LOT SHORTER THAN THEY ANTICIPATED.
SO TOTAL BUDGET OF EXPENSES WAS $1,268,000.
BUT ACTUAL EXPENSES ONLY CAME IN AT 857,000.
WHICH GAVE A NET SURPLUS TO THE ASCC OF JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN 155,000.
WHICH THEY BEGAN THE YEAR WITH A BEGINNING FUND BALANCE OF $1,030,312 AND ENDED THE YEAR WITH $1,185,997.
AND THE NEXT PAGES ARE JUST GRAPHICAL ILLUSTRATIONS OF THAT INFORMATION.
BUT I'LL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS THE BOARD MEMBERS MAY HAVE ON THIS.
>> RIGHT, ANY QUESTIONS BY ANY MEMBERS?
>> YES, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF A COMMENT/QUESTION.
ONE OF THE REVENUE STREAMS AS I WAS READING THROUGH THERE IS THROUGH ELECTRONIC GAMES, WHICH I'M FAMILIAR THAT THERE ARE SOM THAT ARE IN THE AT LEAST WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY KNOWN STILL KIND OF KNOWN AS THE GAME ROOM OVER THERE.
AND THE PROJECTED REVENUE THAT WOULD COME FROM THERE IS MORE OR LESS $3,765 CAME IN FOR NOT SENSIBLY WAS THE FIRST SEMESTER AN FEW WEEKS OF THE SPRING SEMESTER AS WELL.
SO I WAS T DR. FIERRO EARLIER ABOUT THIS AS WELL, AND MAYBE KIND OF YOU KNOW REQUESTING THAT THE ASCC KIND OF LOOK INT DIFFERENT MODEL OF A REVENUE STREAM REGARDING ELECTRONIC GAMES, MAYBE NOT SO MUCH USING THE ARCADE MODEL, BUT RATHER, SOMETHING MORE OF AN EAST SPORTS MODEL THAT EITHER WE AS A COLLEGE AS AN ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT SERVICES CAN HEL SPORTS TOURNAMENT THAT THOSE STUDENTS INTERESTED PLAYING GAMES AS THEY HAVE BEEN DOING TO A RELATIVE
[00:30:05]
AMOUNT ON THE ARCADE GAMES CAN USE THAT MUCH MORE INTEREST IN JOINING A LOCAL TOURNAMENT FOR ONE OF THE MMORPG TYPE OF GAMES LIKE LEGAL, DOTA, STAR CRAFT, THAT WILL GENERATE MORE EXCITEMENT THAN THE ARCADE MODEL HAS DONE IN PREVIOUS DECADES.SO MAYBE THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN KIND CAN OF INTO IN THE FUTURE TO INCREASE THE REVENUE DREAM FOR ASCC AND HOW WE CAN PARTNER AT THE DISTRICT TO PROVIDE ANY ELECTRONIC OR I.T.
INFRASTRUCTURE THAT MAY BE NECESSARY TO HOST ANY KIND OF TOURNAMENT THAT MAY EVEN BRING RESOURCES FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT STUDENTS AT CERRITOS COLLEGE IF THAT'S THE DIRECTION THAT WE DECIDE TO GO.
BUT I THINK THAT T POTENTIAL AND AN OPPORTUNITY IN THAT ONE PARTICULAR LINE THAT WOULD HELP BOTH INSTITUTIONS, THE ASC OUR COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT.
SO SOMETHING TO LOOK AT, AND WE WILL HOPEFULLY HAVE SOME DISCUSSIONS IN THE FUTURE ABOUT THAT.
>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE LEWIS, DOES PRESIDENT HAVE ANY COMMENTS ON THE THE GAME ISSUE?
>> SURE, I HAVE TALKED TO DR. MILLER ACTUALLY ABOUT OBVIOUSLY THE REVENUE FOR THAT.
AND SO THERE ARE TWO PIECES TO THE GAME ROOM AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW.
THERE IS THE GAMING A GAMING MACHINE AND THEN THERE'S THE POOL TABLES.
SO I THINK IT'S A GREAT POINT.
MOST OF THE REVENUE ACTUALLY IS COMING IN FROM THE POOL TABLES.
AND TYPICALLY PEOPLE ARE, THEY'RE TRACKING ALL OF THE REVENUE ON EACH OF THE GAMING SYSTEMS. AND SO THEY HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF WHICH ONES ARE MONEY.
AND THEN THEY SWITCH THEM OUT.
BUT YOU ARE S TOTALLY DIFFERENT MODEL, RIGHT, OF POSSIBLY CREATING MORE OF A SPACE.
WE ARE SEEING MORE STUDENTS TRYING TO BRING THEIR OWN GAMING SYSTEMS IN.
I THINK THAT OBVIOUSLY, AS YOU KNOW, WE CAN CERTAINLY LOOK AT THAT.
BUT WANTING CERTAINLY IF STUDENTS ARE INTERESTED IN ENGAGING IN THAT TO PARTNER WITH THE STUDENTS ON THAT.
AND SO CAN CERTAINLY TALK TO DR. MILLER ABOUT TRYING TO ENCOURAGE THAT OR ENGAGING STUDENTS, AND HOW WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO CREATE A SPACE FOR THAT IN THE GAMING SPACE.
>> YEAH, BECAUSE IT'S BEEN SUCCESSFUL AT THE ELEMENTARY, THE K-12 DISTRICTS I KNOW DOWNEY ELEMENTARY HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING ALL THE HYPE THAT IT'S BEEN PROMISING.
WE HAVE INDUSTRY PARTNERS WHO ARE RIGHT HERE IN L.A.
AND WE CAN REPLICATE AND MIRROR THE SAME AT THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEVEL.
THEY ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO PARTNER WITH US, AND WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO AS WELL.
IF WE WANT TO GO I DIRECTION AS A COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
ON THE BUDGET AND ALSO TO PROVIDE A LITTLE AND INSIGHT, BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF REVENUE, THE STUDENTS AND DR. MILLER, OF THE AREA WORK IN WAY TO REDUCE THAT ARE EXTENSIVE IN THE UPCOMING YEAR BASED ON PROJECTED REVENUES IN ORDER TO OBVIOUSLY REFLECT OUR CURRENT SITUATIO MAXIMIZE THEIR ECONOMIC POSITION, AS YOU KNOW, AS STUDENT ASSOCIATIONS HAVE A GOOD RESEARCH, BUT THE LACK OF REVENUES, BECAUSE THE CAMPUS BEING CLOSED, WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THEIR 2021 BUDGET.
THEY ARE TRYING TO USE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE OF THE RESERVES IN THIS FIRST YEAR PREPARING FOR YEARS, I BELIEVE DR. PEREZ WORKED WITH DR. MILLER ON SOME OF THESE.
SO IF YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS DR. PEREZ.
AS YOU KNOW THEY SIGNIFICANTLY CUT THE BUDGET AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR THINKING THAT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN 40%.
BUT AS YOU KNOW DEPENDING ON WHAT HAPPENS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE VENDORS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPERATE.
AND SO THAT SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASES THE REVENUE.
AND DEPENDING ON WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SPRING THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT WE MAY BE RELYING PARTICULARLY ON THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES FEE ONLY.
SO DR. MILLER IS WORKING WITH THE SENATE AND TRYING TO I'VE THE BEST WAY TO CUT
[00:35:08]
COSTS.SHE HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB ABOUT IDENTIFYING THE COMMUNITIES, SHE IS GETTING READY TO THINK ABOUT WHAT THE NEXT PHASE WILL LOOK LIKE.
BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE'S OPERATIONS HAVE CHANGED.
AND SO WANTING TO OBVIOUSLY MANAGE EXPECTATIONS SO SHE HAS DONE A NICE JOB WORKING SENATE AND ALL THE DIFFERENT ENTITIES THAT RECEIVE FUNDING AND MAKING SURE SHE IS MANAGING THEIR EXPECTATIONS.
>> JUST KIND OF ON A NOTE TO THAT, OR OUR COMMENT IS THAT I REALLY DO THINK THAT WHEN THE DAY COMES THAT WE CAN HAVE STUDENTS BACK ON CAMPUS, I FEEL LIKE THERE'S AN OUTSIDE ROLE FOR ASCC AT THAT TIME, BECAUSE THERE IS I THINK THINGS ARE HARD, REALLY, OBVIOUSLY RIGHT NOW, FOR STUDENTS EVERYWHER THE UNITED STATES INCLUDING AT CERRITOS, WITH THE KIND OF LACK OF KIND OF PHYSICAL CONNECTIVITY.
THAT BEING SAID, I T MOST COLLEGE LEADERSHIP THAT I'VE TALKED TO REALLY HAVE HIGHLIGHTED THE NEED TO KIND OF SUPER-CHARGE TH EXPERIENCE ONCE WE CAN GET BACK TO MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME ON THAT LEVEL.
AND SO ASCC HOLDING EVENTS I THINK BECOMES A IMPORTANT COMPONENT TO LIFE BACK ON CAMPUS, ONCE WE THERE.
AND SO THIS BUDGET I SEE IS KIND OF A PART OF THAT.
AND THE FACT THAT THERE IS SOME BUDGET-CUTTING NOW, ORDER TO KEEP THE BUDGET OVERALL IN BALANCE, OR SMALL ACCESS, I THINK IS EXACTLY THE RIGHT WAY TO APPROACH IT.
SO THAT ONCE WE CAN HAVE IT IN-PERSON EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES, STUDENTS HAVE A CHANCE TO RECONNECT IN A REALLY STRONG WAY THAT MAYBE ISN'T AS RELEVANT WAY BEFORE OR WAY IN THAT TIME IS GOING TO BE VERY IMPORTANT.
>> I'M SURE YOU'RE ALREADY THINKING ABOUT THAT BUT I JUST ENCOURAGE YOU THAT FROM MY POSITION, I THINK THAT THAT'S -- I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH LOOKING AT IT THAT WAY.
IF THAT'S HOW YOU'RE LOOKING AT IT.
SO THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS.
SO WITH THAT ITEM, IS THERE A RECEIVE AND FILE AS WELL.
SO NOW WE WILL MOVE ON TO, WE'LL TAKE ITEMS 4.04 AND 4.05 TOGETHER.
THEY ARE ENGAGEMENT PLANNING LETTERS REQUIRED UNDER AUDITING STANDARDS AU-C-260 FOR BOTH THE COLLEGE AND THE G.O.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A QUESTIONS ON EITHER OF THOSE ITEMS? OKAY, SO WE WILL GO A AND RECEIVE BOTH THOSE ITEMS. SO THAT CONCLUDES SECTION 4.
WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO ITEM 5.01.
[5. Reports and Comments from District Officials]
WHICH ARE R COMMENTS FROM DISTRICT OFFICIALS.SO I WILL GO AHEAD AND START WITH TRUSTEE LEWIS PLEASE.
>> WELL, UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NOT TOO MANY PLACES TO GO NOWADAYS.
BUT THERE'S STILL PLENTY OF HAPPENINGS ON THE -- LOCAL, YOU KNOW, COMMUNITIES AND FOR THE SERVICE SUCH AS YOU ROTARY AND KIWANIS IN LA MIRADA.
WE ARE STILL PROVIDING THROUGH LOVE LA MIRADA PARTICULARLY.
WE WERE RECENTLY RECOGNIZED BY THE CITY, BY THE CITY AND THE MAYOR OF LA MIRADA FOR ALL THE WORK THAT DONE TO GET THAT OUT TO ALL OF OUR NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES AND NOT JUST IN LA MIRADA.
THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE IN NEED.
THE NEED WILL N OUR SERVICE SHOULDN'T, WHETHER IT'S INDIVIDUALLY OR CORPORATELY AT CERRITOS COLLEGE OR EVEN AS COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.
AND HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE UNFORTUNATELY TO GO OUT TO THE FOOD BANKS THAT WE HOST AT THE CAMPUS BUT I'M VERY PROUD THAT CERRITOS COLLEGE AS ALWAYS, IT'S NOT SURPRISING THAT WE TAKE SUCH A BIG STEP U COMMUNITY TO HOST IT WITH ALL OF THE RESOURCES THAT DO.
SO THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS MADE THAT POSSIBLE OUR AREA HERE, AND WE LOOK
[00:40:03]
FORWARD TO KEEPING THEM HAPPENING.WE'LL GO AHEAD WITH TRUSTEE WALLACE.
TRUSTEE WALLACE, DO YOU HAVE ANY UPDATE YOU WANT TO SHARE?
>> I HAVE MORE PERCENTAGE THAN ANYTHING.
I HAD THE JOY TWO W OF WELCOMING INTO OUR COMMUNITY A NEW PERSON.
WE GET A LOT OF THE NEW ONES BUT THIS WAS SPECIAL TO ME DIEGO BIRKEY, MY NEWBORN SON.
BE EXCITING TO BRING IN A NEW MEMBER OF THE FAMILY.
SO WE ARE VERY HAPPY, VERY HEALTHY, MOM'S VERY HEALTHY, WE'RE ALL VERY SHORT ON SLEEP BUT JUST VERY HIGH ON JUST GENERAL JOY.
SO WE CAN'T BE THANKFUL ENOUGH.
THANK YOU GUYS ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE LAST MONTHS AS I'M SURE I WAS A LITTLE MORE NERVOUS THAN NORMAL.
>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
>> NO REPORT, EXCEPT HAVE A GREAT, SAFE, NEW SEMESTER.
THANK YOU FOR FACULTY AND ALL THE CLASSIFIED.
>> ALL RIGHT, TRUSTEE CAMACHO-RODRIGUEZ.
SO I'VE HAD THE P ZOOMING WITH EVERYONE IN, AND JUST BEING A PART OF A GROUP THAT'S INVOLVED WITH A 100-UNIT VETERAN HOUSIN PROJECT THAT AT SOME POINT WILL COME UP HERE NEAR DOWNEY.
AND JUST ZOOMING AS WELL WITH ALL OF THE POSSIBILITIES COMING FORWARD WITH OUR WOMEN'S CAUCUS FOR ALL THE WOMEN TRUSTEES THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE SETTING UP.
JUST SO THOSE T OREPORT, THANK YOU A.
>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
OKAY WE WILL NOW MOVE ON T LET'S SEE, DR. PEREZ.
JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU, TRUSTEE LEWIS FOR THE FOOD DISTRIBUTION.
WE SERVED MORE THAN 1700 FAMILIES LAST DISTRIBUTION.
AND WE HAVE EXCEEDED THE 10,000 MARK FOR THIS YEAR.
SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THAT TEAM FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK IN THE COMMUNITY.
AND THE SEMESTER IS O A GREAT START AND SO THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ, DO WE HAVE AN UPDATE?
>> YOU ARE PROBABLY MUTED, FELIPE.
>> ALL RIGHT, WE'LL GO BACK TO HIM.
WE HAVE AN UPDATE DR. FLOREZ CHURCH.
>> GOOD EVENING MEMBERS, JUST A QUICK UPDATE UPDATE.
STAFF AND FACULTIES ARE GETTING EVERYTHING THEY NEED IN A TIMELY MANNER.
JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS ON BUDGETS.
BUDGET, WE'RE G CLOSE TO BEING FINALIZED.
WE WILL BE BRINGING D ADOPTED BUDGET OR THE BUDGET FOR ADOPTION AT OUR OCTOBER 7TH BOARD MEETING.
WE HAVE OFFICIALLY CLOSED OUR BOOKS FOR THE 19-20 YEAR ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, AND WE WILL BEGIN THE BUDGET PROCESS, WE'LL BE TAKING A DRAFT OF OUR BUDGET TO PLANNING AND BUDGET TOMORROW.
WE'LL BE HOSTING OUR CAMPUS BUDGET FORUM ON SEPTEMBER 15TH AT 11 A.M.
AND THEN AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THE ADOPTION BUDGET AT THE OCTOBER 7TH BOARD MEETING.
[00:45:01]
THAT'S MY REPORT.>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH, VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ.
>> YES, THANK YOU GOOD EVENING, WOULD I LIKE TO SHARE A GREAT NEWS.
WE ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE TRAINING OFFERED BY AND EQUITY CENTER.
THIS TYPE OF TRAINING IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE TOWARDS RACIAL EQUITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION, THEY ARE OFFERING TWO COHORTS, ONE IN SEPTEMBER AND ONE IN OCTOBER.
THUS FAR WE HAVE OVER 100 EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATING IN THESE SERIES SO WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT.
SO IF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL LIKE WE CAN SHARE THE OPPORTUNITY WITH YOU SO YOU CAN JOIN US IN THIS TRAINING ACTIVITY.
>> YES, DEFINITELY DR. FLORES-CHURCH SEND IT TO THE BOARD,ING VICE PRESIDENT RICK MARANDEZ.
>> THANK YOU TO OUR MANAGERS AND OUR CLASSIFIED WHO HAVE BEEN STAFFING IT.
WE HAVE INCREASED OUR ADVERTISING AS ADVERTISING ALSO WENT OUT TO ALL FACULTY SO THEY CAN THEIR STUDENTS KNOW AS WELL.
WE HAVE STUDENTS COMING IN A LITTLE BIT MORE EVERY DAY.
WE SEE AN INFLUX OF OUR MORE C TFORTE PROGRAMS THAT ARE OFTEN THE GROUND SUCH AS OUR NURSING AND ALLIED HEALTH FIELD COMING AND USING THE SPACE AS WELL.
SO AS YOU ALL KNOW, MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, 8 A.M.
TO THE 5:30, FRIDAY 8 UNTIL 3 P.M, AS WE SEE THE NEE GROW, WE CAN EXPAND INTO THE EVENING HOURS AND MAYBE EXPANDING INTO A SATURDAY.
THE ONLY OTHER THING I WOULD TWOONTD BRING TO ATTENTION THAT I'M PROUD OF IS THE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER IS OPEN FOR LIMITED USE.
WE HAVE FOUR HOUR BLOCKS AS OPPOSED TO EIGHT HOUR BLOCKS THAT ALLOWS US TO SERVE MORE FAMILIES, FOUR HOURS IN THE MORNING, FOUR HOURS IN THE AFTERNOON, GIVING NOT ONLY THE COMMUNITY AT MANY OF OUR STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES A LITTLE REPRIEVE AND A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO HOPEFULLY FOCUS AND STUDY.
SO THAT IS OPEN AS OF LAST WEEK.
AND IT WAS OPENING W 74 AND FIVE-YEAR-OLDS, SIX-YEAR-OLDS, AND IN THE UPCOMING WEEKS WE WILL ALSO BE DROPPING THAT DOWN TO THE TWO AND THREE-YEAR-OLDS AS WELL.
THAT'S ABOUT IT FOR NOW, THANK YOU.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, VICE PRESIDENT MIRANDA.
VICE PRESIDENT WALLACE WANTS TO EXPRESS SOMETHING.
>> THANK YOU, WE DID RECEIVE FROM ASCC A NEW CHIEF JUSTICE, CHRISTIAN PENA, I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HIM, IN THE FUTURE.
ANOTHER UPDATE I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS IS I RECENTLY BEGAN A FUND RAISER FOR A PEER TO PEER ORGANIZATION THAT I WORK WITH HERE IN LONG BEACH OF THE BOSS, BUSINESS OF SUCCESS BEYOND SPORTS.
WE WORK WITH YOUTH A THEM PLAN THEIR BEYOND ATHLETIC LIVES AS WELL AS ATHLETIC E-ATHLETIC LIVES AND WE SURROUND THEM IN THI COHORT.
I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT I'M RUNNING THAT FUND AND FUNDS WILL BE ABLE TO BE DEPOSITED IN THE COMING WEEKS.
I'LL PUT THE LINK IN THE CHAT AND JUST WANT TO LET EVERYONE KNOW.
>> THANK YOU, PRESIDENT PEREZ.
TO MENTION AGAIN, WE HAD OVER 100 PEOPLE ON CAMPUS AND COUNTING ATTENDING THE EQUITY NOW SERIES.
THIS IS ONE OF MANY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE WILL BE MAKING AVAILABLE IN CAMPUS TO CONTINUE A CONVERSATION ON RACE EQUITY, ANTIBLACKNESS AND COLORISM.
THIS IS PART OF T COMMITMENT WE MADE LAST SEMESTER AND WITH OUR GOALS.
[00:50:07]
SOMETHING TO HIGHLIGHT IS THE PARTICIPATION HAS BEEN LARGELY VOLUNTARY, PEOPLE WANTING TO DO IT.AND WE WILL CONTINUAL TO WORK ON THAT.
IN ADDITION TO, WE BECAME PART OF THE USC RACE AND EQUITY CENTER, AND MEMBER AS PART AOF THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE EQUITY LEADERSHIP ALLIANCE.
AND WE WILL BE B OFFER WEBINARS, STARTING SEPTEMBER.
SO THOSE WEBINARS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBERS TO CONTINUE OUR CAMPUS CONVERSATIONS ON EQUIT RIGHTS, DIVERSITY, ANTIBLACKNESS, COLORISM.
SO WE MAINTAIN T CONVERSATION ON THE FOREFRONT AND CONTINUE TO MAKE THE SYSTEMIC CHANGES THAT WE HOPE TO MAKE GOING INTO THE FUTURE.
AS I MENTIONED, DURING OUR ADOPTION OF OUR GOALS, THE WAY I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE OUR SUCCESS IN THAT IS BY CLOSING THE PROPORTIONALLY IMPACTED CAPS IN STUDENTS, WE ARE MINORITY INSTITUTIONS AND WE SHOULD SET THE EXAMPLE OF NOT HAVING DISPROPORTIONALLY IMPACTED GROUPS ON CAMPUS.
WE SHOULD HAVE THOSE GAPS CLOSED.
IT'S A LOT OF WORK BUT WE ARE COMMITTED TO DO IT.
AS A RESULT,.ON OUR NEXT MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 16, THE SECOND MEETING OF THE MONTH, WHICH IS OUR STUDY SESSION, WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT OUR DI DATA, WE WILL BE ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS AS A GROUP, IN ORDER T PRIORITIZE THE WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE MOVING FORWARD ON CAMPUS.
SO THIS WILL BE THE STUDY SESSION FOR THE BOARD AND COUPLE OF OUR TRUSTEES AS YOU KNOW, TRUSTEE CAMACHO-RODRIGUEZ AND TRUSTEE AVALOS HAVE BEEN PARTICIPATING WITH ME ON THE TRAINING AND WE WANT TO BRING THESE TO THE ENTIRE BOARD.
SO WE CONTINUE TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF ADDRESSING DISPROPORTIONAL IMPACT CAPS IN OUR CAMPUS AS A MEANS TO COMBAT SYSTEMIC RACISM.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, APRIL ASKED ME WHEN ARE WE MAKING THE DECISION ABOUT THE SPRING SEMESTER, WE WILL BE SPENDING A LITTLE TIME ON OUR STUDY SESSION PROVIDING YOU ON OUR UPDATE ON THE REOPENING PLAN, HOW ARE WE DOING.
AND OUR OUTLOOK FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER.
THE TIME FOR US TO MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHAT TO DO FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER IS RUNNING OUT.
RICK AND HIS TEAM IN A AND THE IF THE DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND THE FACULTY HAVE BEEN VERY FLEXIBLE IN CREATING A KIND OF LAYERE APPROACH INTO THE SPRING SEMESTER.
SO IN THE EVENT THAT WE H TO CONTINUE IN OUR CURRENT SITUATION, THEY CAN QUICKLY SWITCH GEARS.
AND I SAY QUICKLY BECAUSE I'M NOT ONE DOING SOUNDS REALLY FAST TO ME WHEN THEY SEND ME THE QUICKLY AND EASILY, AGAIN BECAUSE I'M NOT THE ONE DOING IT BUT I KNOW IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT ON THE BACKGROUND TO MAKE THIS WORK.
SO WE ARE READY TO MOVE INTO A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS DEPENDING OF THE DATA WE'LL SEE IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY, CONVERSATIONS I'M HAVING WITH SOME OF THE CEOS IN THE LOCAL AREAS AND OBVIOUSLY DIRECTIO STATE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE AND OUR ACCREDITING BODY.
SO WE WILL BE BRINGING THOSE ITEMS TO YOU IN TWO WEEKS FROM NOW.
AND OTHER THAN THAT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE ON CAMPUS FOR THEIR EFFORT ON KEEPING OUR CAMPUS RUNNING AND WORKING SO WELL.
I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND TIME ON CAMPUS IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, WALK AROUND, PARTICULARLY WITH VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ, VISITING THE BUILDINGS, SPEAKING WITH THE FACULTY AND THE STAFF ON TH AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE GOING WELL.
OBVIOUSLY WE'RE OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT AND WE'LL MAKE THOSE
[00:55:01]
CORRECTIONS AS WE CONTINUE TO LOOK FORWARD AND WE'R VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THE WORK THAT HAS GONE INTO KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE AS WE REOPEN THE CAMPUS.>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU DR. FIERRO.
I JUST WANTED TO CONGRATULATE TRUSTEE BIRKEY ON THE BIRTH OF DIEGO AND CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR WIFE AS WELL, TOO, AND JUST TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK, ON BEHALF OF OUR STUDENTS, THESE LAST FEW WEEKS.
THE ONLY OTHER THING I WANTED TO ADD TO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS ALREADY DISCUSSED IS ACKNOWLEDGE EVERYBODY AND ALL THE WORK BEHIND CONVOCATION.
I THINK CONVOCATION WAS LAST WEEK.
IT WAS VERY GOOD, I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY WELL ATTENDED.
I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A REALLY GOOD EVENT.
I THINK THE MESSAGE OF BEING EMPATHETIC TOWARDS OUR STUDENTS WAS REALLY TIMELY, WANTED TO PUT THAT TOGETHER.
ALSO WANTED TO MENTION THAT CHERYL IS TRYING TO SCHEDULE A DATE FOR THE PHASE 2 OPENING OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMPLEX.
SO IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO RESPOND BACK TO CHERYL PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LET HER KNOW SO WE CAN HAVE THE BOARD REPRESENTED THERE TOO.
AND I SPENT MUCH OF THE TIME TODAY ON THE CHANCELLOR'S EEO COMMITTEE, I REPRESENT THE CCC BOARD THERE.
LOTS OOF WORK IN THAT AREA SO YOU WILL SEE SOME GUIDANCE FROM CHANCELLOR OAKLEY, WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CONTINUE TO ADVANCE DIVERSITY EQUITY ON CAMPUS.
I THINK THAT'S ABOUT IT FOR ME.
ANYTHING ELSE? AND THEN, YES, D MENTIONED TOO THAT WE DO PLAN TO SPEND A GOOD MAJORITY OF OUR BOARD STUDY SESSION NEXT WEEK TALKING ABOUT DISPROPORTIONATE IMPACT FOR OUR STUDENTS AS WELL AS THE RETURN TO CAMPUS PLAN.
AND I TALKED TO DR. FIERRO A LITTLE BIT.
I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE KIND OF INITIAL THOUGHTS ON CONTACT TRACING AS WELL AS WHAT OUR TESTING STRATEGY WOULD BE.
SO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE TWO COVERED.
I THINK YOU GUYS HAVE A REALLY GOOD HANDLE RIGHT NOW AND SOME DATA IN REGARDS TO THE PROTOCOLS OF ACTUALLY BRINGING SOME OF THE STUDENTS AND SOME OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED SO I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD INFORMATION TO SHARE AND DISCUSS AS WE CONTEMPLATE THE NEXT STEPS TO BRINGING BACK EVERYBODY ON CAMPUS.
SO GIVEN THAT, WE WILL GO AHEAD AND MAYBE TAKE A TEN MINUTE BREAK.
IT'S 7:59 AND FOR T US WHO GO TO CLOSED SESSION, WE WILL RECONVENE IN CLOSED
[6. Closed Session]
SESSION AT 8:10.>> OKAY, SO NO READOUTS SO THAT KIND OF CONCLUDES THE MEETING FOR EVERYBODY ELSE BUT WE WILL GO AHEAD AND TAKE A TEN MINUTE RECESS.
