EXACERBATED BY THE FACT THAT DUE TO THE ALREADY EXISTING INEQUITIES, BROWN AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLE HAVE THE BRUNT OF ECONOMIC HARDSHIP AND DEATH AND ILLNESSES FROM THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC.
ONE STATEMENT THAT HAS T HAS STOOD IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE MOVEMENT HAS COME FROM OUR STATE SENATE BODY.
THIS STATEMENT IS ACTUALLY IDENTIFIED WHAT SENATE PRESIDENTS CAN DO DURING THIS TIME OF TRANSITION WHILE YEAR ON SUMMER.

GEORGE FLOYD, AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN DIED NEEDLESSLY AND TRAGICALLY AT THE HAND OR BENEATH THE KNEE RATHER OF INDIVIDUALS WHO GROSSLY ABUSED THEIR POWER.
WHEN WE LOOK INTO THE CAUSES OF SUCH VIOLENT EVENTS, WE FIND THERE'S OPPRESSIVE SYSTEMS IN PLACE SINCE THE ORIGINS OF OUR COUNTRY, THE UNITED STATES THAT HAVE EFFECTED MANY VULNERABLE GROUPS WHO WERE ONCE CONSIDERED THE OTHER AND THEREFORE WITHOUT POWER AND PRIVILEGE.
THESE SYSTEMS OF OPPRESSION ARE MEANT TO KEEP THOSE THAT HAVE POWER AND PRIVILEGE WITH POWER AND PRIVILEGE AND TO KEEP THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED AND POWERLESS AND VULNERABLE OPPRESSED AND VULNERABLE.
THIS IS A SYSTEM OF ABUSE THAT PROPONENTS OF CIVIL RIGHTS, JUSTICE, EQUITY, EQUALITY DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR DECADES.
THROUGH THIS FIGHT, THESE EFFORTS BROUGHT MUCH PROGRESS BUT MORE FIGHTING IS NEEDED UNTIL OPPRESSION IS IRRADIATED.
WE SEE THIS WHEN OUR COLLEGE VALUES CELEBRATES AND PROTECTS THE PEOPLE WITHIN THE COLLEGE COMMUNITY.
ONE OF THE COLLEGE'S STATED VALUES IS TO CELEBRATE CULTURES AND BELIEFS.
BUT EQUITY AND JUSTICE ARE NOT JUST MEANT FOR RACE, CULTURE AND GENDER AND SEX AND PHILOSOPHY AND BELIEF BUT OTHER IDENTITY MARKERS AS WELL.
INCLUDING CITIZENSHIP STATUS, ABILITY, AGE, LANGUAGE, STABILITY OF HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT STATUS AND SHAPE AND SIZE.
OUR STUDENTS HAVE COMPLEX IDENTITIES AND SHOULD SHOULD PROTECT AND UNDERSTAND THEM AND DO OUR BEST TO HELP THEM SUCCEED REGARDLESS OF IDENTITY.
HOWEVER, WE HAVE SEEN THAT EVEN WHILE WE HOLD CERTAIN VALUES THERE'S STILL SOME THAT FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS.
WE SAW THIS IN THE EQUITY AMONG THE HISPANIC AND BLACK STUDENTS AND WE SEE THIS IN THE LOW RETENTION AND SUCCESS RATES OF THESE THAT ATTEND REMOTELY.
80705 TRIED IT ADDRESS THE GAP IN ENGLISH AND MATH.
WE WONDER IF THIS WILL COME BACK IN AN ONLINE SETTING.
FACULTY ARE TRYING TO HELP STUDENTS THROUGH REMOTE INSTRUCTION.
THIS IS MORE REASON TO GIVE THE FACULTY THE TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO INSURE EQUITY

INSTRUCTION IN A REMOTE SETTING.WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A SENSE OF BELONGING AND THEY SEE FACULTY THAT LOOKS LIKE THEM AND ACCESS TO THEIR EDUCATION AND ACCESS TO A WORLD THEY WOULDN'T OTHERWISE HAVE ACCESS TO.
THIS IS BECAUSE EQUITY IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST GETTING A PASSING GRADE.
IT IS ABOUT THE TYPE OF TREATMENT AND INTERACTION, RELATIONSHIP AND COMMUNICATION BETWEEN FACULTY AND STUDENTS.
IT IS ALSO ABOUT HOW ONE THINKS AND FEELS FOR ANOTHER AND WHETHER THERE'S ANY UNCONSCIOUS BIAS ABOUT THE WAY WE SEE, THINK AND FEEL FOR THE OTHER.
THIS IS WHERE OUR BATTLE IS ON CAMPUS.
LUCKILY WE HAVE ALLIES, THOSE THAT WISH TO HELP US FOR OUR MISSION FOR CHANGE.
THESE ALLIES HAVE COME FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, WHO ARE AMONG OUR FACULTY, ADMINISTRATION AND COMMUNITY.
THEY'RE FROM ALL RACES AND RELIGIONS AND LANGUAGES AND AGES AND SHAPES AND SIZES AND ALSO ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS AND VOCATIONS.
AMONG THESE ALLIES ARE LABOR UNIONS WHO HAVE TRADITIONALLY FOUGHT FOR FAIR AND JUST TREATMENT OF WORKERS AND ALSO FOUGHT HAND IN HAND WITH CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS.
THE CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. SUPPORTED THE LABOR MOVEMENT AND DIED FOR FAIR WORKING CONDITIONS IN 1968.
CESAR CHAVEZ AND OTHERS FOUNDED THE UNITED FARM WORKERS TO HELP FARM WORKERS.
WE WORK FOR EQUITY AND JUSTICE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FACULTY.
ENGAGING IN A CIVIL MOVEMENT DURING A PANDEMIC AND RECESSION AND CUT BUDGET COULD BE A CHALLENGE BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
WE KNOW THE FACULTY STRUGGLE IS A COLLEGE AND STUDENT STRUGGLE.
THEY CAN'T BE UNTIED UP ABOUT WHILE INSURING THAT EVERYONE HAS WHAT THEY NEED AND DESERVE COULD BE DIFFICULT, IT IS POSSIBLE TO INSURE THAT EVERYBODY HAS WHAT THEY NEED AND DESERVE WITHIN THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
WITH THESE CIRCUMSTANCES IN MIND, WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS SECURING FAIR WORKING CONDITIONS DURING THE COVID 19 EMERGENCY, SHOULD IT CONTINUE INTO THE FALL 2020 SEMESTER.
BECAUSE OF THE CAMPUS CLOSURE, RATHER THAN USE THE TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES THE COLLEGE REGULARLY PROVIDED, FACULTY HAVE USED SUPPLIES FOR INSTRUCTION, INCLUDING OFFICE SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT SUCH AS PRINTERS, COPY AND TONER AND UTILITIES.
THE CCSF IS ASKING FOR COMPENSATION FOR THESE EXPENDITURES.
THEY'RE ALSO ASKING FOR COMPENSATION FOR ALL TIME WORK, PARTICULARLY, THE TIER 1 LAB IF IT IS TO COMPLY WITH DISTANCING STANDARDS.
IT WOULD RESULT IN FACULTY TEACHING THE SAME LAB TWO OR THREE TIMES PER SESSION DEPENDING ON WHETHER THEY HAVE 20 OR 30 STUDENTS IN THAT SECTION.
WE ARE ALSO ASKING THAT INSTRUCTION LAB ASSISTANT, AND FACULTY WITH THESE SPLIT LABS WHICH WOULD REQUIRE MORE HELP NOT LESS AND ESPECIALLY THE TIME FACULTY WOULD HAVE TO INVEST AND SETUP AND DELIVER LABS.
BECAUSE IT IS LABOR INTENSIVE THAN FACE TO FACE INSTRUCTION, WE ASK FACULTY ARE GIVEN FEWER PREPS.
WE'RE ASKING THAT FACULTY ARE GIVEN MORE OF THE SAME SECTION OF A GIVEN COURSE, SO IF THEY'RE SCHEDULED TO TEACH THREE COURSES THEY'RE TEACHING TWO OR THREE ENGLISH RATHER THAN ENGLISH 102 AND 103 WHICH WOULD REQUIRE THREE SEPARATE PREPS.
WE'RE ASKING THAT THE DEPARTMENT HELP WITH SUMMER WORK TO PREPARE FOR REMOTE INSTRUCTION DURING THE FALL 2020 SEMESTER.
PART TIME FACULTY MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT WERE SECURED THROUGH OUR CURRENT COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT.
WE'RE ASKING THOSE REIMBURSEMENTS BE PROVIDED WHEN EVERYONE'S HEALTH AND LIFE IS AT RISK.

IF HE WAS AN OUTSTANDING FACULTY MEMBER FROM 2015 TO 2018.
IN 2017 HE AND HIS WIFE ESTABLISHED THE KROLL ENDOWMENT THAT PROVIDES A SCHOLARSHIP FOR SINGLE MOTHERS MAJORING IN ADMINISTRATION AND ACCOUNTING.

WITH THAT SAID I BELIEVE THE BOARD WILL NEED TO BALANCE THE TWO PIECES, THE FIRST ONE OBVIOUSLY THE SOCIAL ECONOMIC SITUATION THAT WE ALL EXPERIENCED AND HOW THIS THIS COULD POTENTIALLY IMPACT VOTERS ONCE NOVEMBER GETS HERE.
OBVIOUSLY WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE ECONOMIC FORECAST THERE'S INDICATORS THAT THAT BY THE TIME NOVEMBER GETS HERE AND WE KNOW THE SITUATION, THE THE STRENGTHENING OF THE ECONOMY WILL CONTINUE AS WE HAVE SEEN OVER THE LAST WEEKS WITH THE STOCK MARKET MAINTAINING A STEADY UPWARD TREND.
WE'RE PROBABLY LOOKING INTO ADDITIONAL DIPS IN THE ECONOMY AND THIS WILL BE WHAT THEY CALL AN L SHAPE, ALREADY WE GO DOWN RELATIVELY QUICKLY AND WE STAY IN THE BOTTOM FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME.
WE USUALLY EXPERIENCE IN THIS TYPE OF SITUATION.
WHAT WE EXPERIENCE WITH A NEW SHAPE AND WE GO DOWN QUICK AND STAY ON THE BOTTOM AND CHANGE UP RELATIVELY FAST IN A SUSTAINABLE TIME.

NOT ONLY THE ESCALATION COST AND WAGES AND IMPACT BUT I THINK MOST IMPORTANTLY THE COMPETITION HAS HAS HAS HAS EVEN THE BIDDING PROCESS HIGHER AND NOW ALL OF THE CONTRACTORS AND SUBCONTRACTORS HAD SIGNIFICANTLY MORE OPTIONS SO THEY HAVE THE ABILITY OF SUBMITTING HIGHER MEETING COSTS TO ANY OF THE PROJECTS.

I DISCUSSED LAST TIME THAT THE TOP LINE NUMBER OF 55 PERCENT IS NOT INSPIRING A LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN ME TO PUT THIS ON THE BOND BECAUSE IN MANY OF OUR PREVIOUS BONDS AT LEAST THE ONES I REMEMBER IN MY LIFE TIME HAVE PASSED WITH ABOUT 70 PERCENT OF THE VOTE AND IT HAS BEEN CLEAR AND CONVINCING THAT THE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN BEHIND US.
SO FOR US TO GO OUT FOR A BOND NOW, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE UNCERTAINTIES IN THE WORLD AND MANY PROPERTY OWNERS WHO ARE CONTINUING TO STRUGGLE TO KEEP THEIR OWN PROPERTY, I THINK IT WOULD TO PUT IT FRANKLY, BE A LITTLE TONE DEAF OF US TO ASK THEM FOR EVEN MORE MONEY WHEN IT IS NOT AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY AND OUR COLLEGE HAS BEEN THRIVING WITH THE PREVIOUS INVESTMENTS OF THE LAST 20 YEARS.

IT IS REQUIRED BY TITLE FIVE AS WELL AS METHOD AND STRUCTURE.
THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE PLAN ARE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AND POLICIES FOR RECRUITMENT AND HIRING.
MOST OF THE REVISIONS FROM THE 2017 PLAN FOR THE ONE THAT WE ARE RECOMMENDING FOR ADOPTION TODAY ARE DATES AND LINKS TO GET THE PLAN UPDATED.
I DID WANT TO POINT YOUR ATTENTION TO SECTION 11 AND 12 WHICH WERE UPDATED SO THAT WAY WE ARE COMMITTING OURSELVES TO PUT TOGETHER SOME MODELS TO REVIEW DATA AS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED THROUGHOUT THE STATE, DATA IS IMPORTANT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE GOALS.
THEN FOR SECTION 13, THAT SECTION WAS REVISED BECAUSE IT IT THE THE ACTIVITIES THAT WE WILL BE COMMITTING TO ARE OUTLINED IN THE DIVERSITY ACTION PLAN SO THE GOAL STATEMENT THAT I'LL MENTION ON THE NEXT SLIDE HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED IN THAT SECTION.
THE MAJORITY OF THE EEO PLAN IS SIMILAR TO WHAT WE PUBLISHED IN 2017 BUT THOSE ARE THE MAIN HIGHLIGHTS.

SO THE DIVERSITY ACTION PLAN FOR 2020 UPDATES OUR 2014 DIVERSITY PLAN.
THE 2014 DIVERSITY PLAN HAD ABOUT 50 DIFFERENT ITEMS AND TASKS.
OVER THE COURSE OF SINCE 2014 WE COMPLETED OR STARTED THE PROCESSES FOR ALL BUT THREE OF THEM.
WE HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS.
I'M PROUD WITH THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE ON CAMPUS WITH ALL CONSTITUENT GROUPS TO PUT TOGETHER OUR DIVERSITY ACTION PLAN.
AND SO THIS PLAN ORGANIZES TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DEADLINES AROUND FOUR MAIN AREAS, POLICY AND PROCEDURES, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY ON CAMPUS AND ENHANCING DATA LITERACY AND WE'VE BEEN WORKING TOWARD THAT WITH IRP AND I WANT TO DEFINITELY NAME AMBER ROCK AND ALL OF THE IRP STAFF OVER THE YEARS THAT HELPED US WITH THAT.
SO ALL OF THESE GOAL AREAS, THE TASKS AND DEADLINES HAVE BEEN CREATED BY SOLICITING INFORMATION FROM CAMPUS AND WORKING WITH DIFFERENT GROUPS ON CAMPUS TO MAKE SURE WE'RE COLLABORATING.
THIS IS NOT JUST HR DOING THE WORK, WE'RE DEFINITELY WORKING ACROSS CAMPUS.
THE DIVERSITY ACTION PLAN IS ADDED AS AN APPENDIX TO THE EEO PLAN.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IT IS ALIGNED WITH ALL OF THE STRATEGY DOCUMENTS ON CAMPUS.

THE FIRST DRAFT REPRESENTED OVER 100 YEARS OF FACULTY EXPERIENCE SO LYDIA ALVAREZ WILL TELL YOU ABOUT THAT EFFORT AS SHE'S BEEN ONE OF THE LEADERS IN GETTING FACULTY AND OTHER VOICES INVOLVED IN THE DRAFTING PROCESS.
AND IT PROVIDES A SHARED LOCAL DEFINITIONS OF COMMON TERMS LIKE EQUITY AND DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION TO MAKE SURE THAT ANY OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING MOVING FORWARD IS ALIVE AND SYNCHRONIZED.
IT ALSO WILL BE A LIVING DOCUMENT.
AS WE ALL KNOW THIS IS AN IMPORTANT TIME WHERE THERE IS A LOT OF LEARNING AND A LOT OF GROWTH AND COMMITMENT.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE DOCUMENT IS ABLE TO KEEP PACE WITH ALL OF THE ADVANCEMENT WE ANTICIPATE MOVING FORWARD AND IS REFLECTED IN THE OTHER RESOLUTION YOU'LL ADOPT TONIGHT.

SO WE HAD FORMAL SETTINGS AND INVITATIONS TO MANY PEOPLE ON CAMPUS AND REPRESENTATIVES TO START ENGAGING IN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT EQUITY.
SO FROM THAT WE FOUND OURSELVES LEARNING TO DO THE WORK THAT WE WERE EXCITED AND DESPERATE TO DO.
WE FOUND THAT WE WANTED SOME REASSURANCE THAT WE WERE ON THE RIGHT TRACK AND THAT THE CAMPUS WAS SUPPORTIVE OF OUR MOST CREATIVE AND AND HEARTFELT EFFORTS.
AS FACULTY LOOK INTO WHAT WAS DOCUMENTED AND STATED, WE CAME UP WITH WITH NOT A LOT AT THE TIME.
ONE THING WE KEPT COMING BACK TO WAS A STATEMENT THAT WAS PART OF THE MISSION AT THE SAME TIME AND THAT WAS THAT WE COMMITTED TO CELEBRATE DIVERSITY.
SO WITH THAT IN THE BEING QUITE ENOUGH, WE SET OUT TO TO ARTICULATE WHAT WE NEEDED TO TO TO CONTINUE THE WORK AND TO FEEL SUPPORTED.

IF YOU LOOK BACK AT 1996 WHEN PROPOSITION 209 WAS PASSED AND IT TOOK EFFECT IN 1998 THERE WAS SOME DROPS OF MINORITY STUDENTS ATTENDANCE OF UC BERKELEY AND UCLA BUT THEY DID END UP GOING TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS WITHIN THE UC SYSTEM SUCH AS SAN DIEGO AND RIVERSIDE AND SANTA CRUZ.
SIMILARLY AT SAN DIEGO 20 PERCENT OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS MADE THE HONOR ROLL AND FAILURE RATES FOR BLACK AND NATIVE AMERICANS DROPPED TO ONLY 6 PERCENT.
UNDER THESE MERIT BASED AD MISSIONS, GRADES WERE HIGHER AND DROPOUTS RATES WERE LOWER.
IN FACT 50 PERCENT MORE LATIN AND BLACK STUDENTS GRADUATED WITH A DEGREE IN A STEM FIELD.
THE MOST TELLING FACT IS THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS RECEIVING BACHELOR'S DEGREES WERE STATISTICALLY THE SAME FOR THE FIVE CLASSES AFTER PROPOSITION 209 AS THE FIVE CLASSES BEFORE.
SO WHAT CAN YOU REALLY ATTRIBUTE THAT TO.
I THINK THAT ATTRIBUTES TO WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE PROPOSITION 209, THERE WAS LARGE RACIAL PREFERENCES OR STRONG PREFERENCES FOR STUDENTS THAT WOULD PUT THEM IN ENVIRONMENTS WHERE THEY COULD NOT COMPETE WITH OTHERS.
IN FACT THE SUPPORT LOOKED AT SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS WITH TWO CASES IN WHICH THEY WERE LOOKING AT UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN'S STANDARDS, PARTICULARLY LOOKING AT RACE AS A PREDOMINANT FACTOR IN THEIR AD MISSIONS STANDARDS AND THE SUPREME COURT STRUCK THAT DOWN AS NOT MEETING THE STRICT SCRUTINY TEST AS NOT TO ACHIEVE A COMPELLING GOVERNMENT INTEREST.
BUT IN THE OTHER CASE, THEY FOUND THAT USING RACE AS A SINGLE FACTOR AMONG MANY, ANY MORE HIGHLY INDIVIDUALIZED ADMISSIONS PROCESS DID IN FACT MEET A STRICT SCRUTINY STANDARD.

IN ADDITION SOME OF THE S OF THE OTHER UNINTENDED NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES THAT WOULD HAPPEN WOULD BE ON THOSE WHO ARE OF WHITE AND ASIAN DESCENT THAT HAVE A LOW SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS THAT WOULD END UP BEING PASSED OVER FOR THE MINORITIES THAT HAVE BEEN TYPICALLY FAVORED IN SUCH RACIAL PREFERENCE SCENARIOS.

IN THE PREPRINCETON YEARS, 26 PERCENT OF THOSE RESPONDENTS WERE GREATER EASE WITH FELLOW BLACKS THAN WHITES DURING PRINCETON YEARS BUT THAT NUMBER CLIMBED TO 37 PERCENT AFTER THOSE PRINCETON YEARS.
IT WAS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FOR THOSE IN THE CATEGORY OF SUPPORTING COMFORT IN WHICH 26 WENT DOWN TO 25.
ALL OF THAT IS TO SAY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION DOES NOT FOSTER A GOOD SCENARIO THAT HELPS TO INTEGRATE MEMBERS INTO THE DIVERSE CAMPUS THAT IS WE ALL SEEK TO DO TODAY.
IN FACT, IN A BOOK AND STUDY CALLED INCREASING FACULTY DIVERSITY IN THE OCCUPATIONAL CHOICES OF HIGH ACHIEVING MINORITY STUDENTS THEY DID AN EXTENSIVE STUDY OF 34 COLLEGES AND 7600 STUDENTS IN WHICH THERE WERE RACIAL PREFERENCES IN THAT ADMISSION, THEIR ADMISSION STANDINGS.
THE MAJORITY AND AS THEY SAY IN THEIR ARTICLE, THE MAJORITY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS ENDED UP IN THE LOWER QUARTER OF THEIR CLASS.
AND THOSE LOWER GRADES SAPPED THE SELF CONFIDENCE OF THOSE STUDENTS WHICH CAUSED THEM TO ABANDON THEIR INTEREST IN ACADEMIC CAREERS.
THIS GOES TO A THEORY OF ACADEMIC MISMATCH WHICH THE RACIAL PREFERENCE THAT IS MADE PREDOMINANT FACTOR PUTS STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT PREPARED NECESSARILY AT ANY LEVEL BUT PARTICULARLY FOR MINORITY AT LEAST, EITHER BECAUSE OF THEIR SCHOOLS DID NOT PREPARE THEM EFFECTIVELY OR SOME OTHER REASON, NEAR MISMATCHED IN A UNIVERSITY WHICH THEY'RE SET UP FOR FAILURE.
WHEN THEY FALL BEHIND IN THE CLASS AND THEY FEEL THAT THEY'RE THE TOKEN MINORITY IN THERE BECAUSE OF THE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICIES THAT WERE IN PLACE FOR THE UCS, THEY HAVE THAT MUCH MORE PRESSURE TO SUCCEED AND OFTENTIMES WITHOUT THE SUPPORT THEY FAIL WHICH GOES BACK TO THE POINT I MADE EARLIER, EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE FEWER MINORITIES IN THE IN THE AT UCLA THERE WAS THE SAME AMOUNT STATISTICALLY OF THOSE THAT ACTUALLY GRADUATED.
SO RATHER THAN SET THEM UP FOR FAILURE IN AN ARTIFICIAL SCHEME SUCH AS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, I BELIEVE THAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE THE WAY WE HAVE AND WE CONTINUE TO STILL BE A SHINING BEACON IN THE WORLD FOR OUR SYSTEM.
TO CHANGE THE WAY WE ADMIT STUDENTS AT THIS POINT WOULD NOT BE IDEAL AND FOR THAT REASON I THINK THE SOLUTION IS IS IS THAT WE NEED TO INVEST MORE IN OUR COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM WHERE WE DON'T HAVE SELECTIVE AD MISSIONS AND THAT'S WHY WE HAVE CERRITOS COMPLETE.
IT IS NOT ABOUT ADMISSION FOR STUDENTS TO GET IN THE UNIVERSITY.
AND WE ALL AGREE, IT IS ABOUT GETTING THEM TO GET TO THE DEGREE AND FOR THEM TO HAVE THE SUCCESS.
WE CANNOT JUST FOCUS ON SIMPLEMINDED ADMISSIONS STANDARDS, WE NEED TO GET THEM COMPLETE THEIR DEGREES TO HAVE THEM IN STEM FIELDS AND ACADEMIC FACULTY, RATHER THAN ARTIFICIAL TOKENISM WHICH HAS BEEN THE CASE WITH AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.
FOR THAT REASON, MADAM CHAIR, I ARGUE THIS RESOLUTION SHOULD BE VOTED

THIS RESOLUTION IS CONFIRMING AND AFFIRMING A STANDARD AGAINST SYSTEMATIC OPPRESSION DUE TO THE KILLING OF MR. GEORGE FLOYD BY WHITE POLICE OFFICER IN MINNESOTA.
I THINK WE HAVE SEEN A NUMBER OF PROTESTS AND DEMONSTRATIONS, ACTUALLY IN ALL 50 STATES.
LOOK AT HISTORICAL REPRESENTATIONS IT COULD BE SINGULARLY COMPARED TO WHAT WE SEE IN THE EARLY 1990S, 1992, THE 60S THAT HAVE LED TO A GREAT DEAL OF CIVIL UNREST IN OUR COMMUNITIES.
WE HAD MINORITY SERVING INSTITUTION AND WE HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS NOW AND MADE IT TO EQUALITY AND INCLUSION AND TRYING TO WORK REPEALING.
WE HAVE WORK TO DO, BUT WE'VE BEEN CONTINUOUSLY COMMITTED TO DO THIS.
AS WE SAW TONIGHT IN OUR PLAN AND SOME OF THE OF THE TRAINING WE'VE BEEN DOING OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, I THINK WE HAVE MADE TO STRIVE TO GET THIS.

I GO BACK TO TO THE NURSING STUDENTS AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENTS AND SO ON THAT WE TEACH DAILY.
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO SHOW THAT BEHAVIOR ONCE THEY GRADUATE, THEY THEY HOPEFULLY WILL HAVE FEWER BIASES AND THAT MANY HAVE AND WE CAN SAY AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER WE HAD THOSE AND WORK HARD TO NOT HAVE THEM AND TO CONTROL THOSE.
