WE HAVE TWO CLASSIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANTS. OUR MEDICAL ASSISTANTS HAVE BEEN WITH US FOR 17, 18 YEARS. OUR MENTAL HEALTH TEAM WHICH IS ALL NEW SINCE 2023.
WE HAVE ONE MANAGER, WHICH IS ANGELA WILLIAMS. SHE CAME AND JOINED US IN FEBRUARY 23RD. WE HAVE A NEW ASSISTANT MANAGER WITH GUSTAVO WAS ON THE HIRING COMMITTEE THIS SUMMER AND IS BERNADETTE FARRELL.
HERE SHE STARTED IN AUGUST. WE HAVE ONE SHORT TERM HOURLY CLINICAL CASE MANAGER THAT IS NOT A MANAGER POSITION, BUT THAT IS THE TITLE AND ONE SHORT TERM HOURLY THERAPIST, A LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER.
AND WE HAVE THIS SEMESTER FOR MASTER'S SOCIAL WORK INTERNS.
SO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR SERVICES AND OVERVIEW IN GENERAL WHEN I CAME ON.
WE DO OUTREACH. WE DO TO THE STUDENTS ON CAMPUS.
WE HAVE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND MOUS. I IMPLEMENTED EVIDENCE BASED SCREENING FOR EVERY SINGLE STUDENT THAT COMES TO STUDENT HEALTH, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE THE ISSUE IS, IF YOU'RE COMING IN BECAUSE YOU HAVE A COUGH, WE'RE GOING TO GIVE YOU AN EVIDENCE BASED SCREENING TOOL TO SEE IF YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM ANY DEPRESSION OR ANXIETY, BECAUSE THAT WAY WE CAN DO A REFERRAL OVER TO MENTAL HEALTH AND WE CAN CAPTURE THOSE STUDENTS.
ANGELA AND I ARE PART OF THE CARE TEAM. I BROUGHT GUIDED MEDITATION ON CAMPUS IN 2015, ALTHOUGH WE MOVED THAT OVER TO ONLINE WITH THE PANDEMIC AND WE'VE WE'VE STAYED WITH IT ONLINE.
WE HAD CRISIS HOURS ONCE PER DAY AND THAT HAS SWITCHED TO TEN HOURS A WEEK NOW.
SO TWICE PER DAY. THEY BROUGHT THE THERAPY DOGS ON STARTING 2019.
AND THAT INCLUDES MEDICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH WELLNESS TOPICS.
SO IN PROGRESS WE STILL CONTINUE THE OUTREACH EVENTS.
THE CARE TEAM. LIKE I MENTIONED, OUR DAILY CRISIS HOURS ARE NOW DOUBLE OUR EMBEDDED WELLNESS, OUR MEDITATION IS CONTINUING ONLINE FREE FOR EVERYONE.
WE HAVE HAD SOME FACULTY AND STAFF SIGN ON AS WELL AND GOTTEN GREAT FEEDBACK.
OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS SPECIFICALLY WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, WE HAVE AN MOU WITH A THERAPIST THAT CAN DO ADHD SCREENING AT A REALLY LOW COST $100 110 YES, WHICH IS VERY, VERY CHEAP FOR THAT TYPE. AND ANGELA BROUGHT ON OUR MSW, SO OUR MASTER'S IN SOCIAL WORK INTERNS TO HELP SEE THE LOAD OF PATIENTS FOR MENTAL HEALTH. AND WHEN SHE BEGAN THIS PROGRAM.
SO SHE, SHE HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. SHE CAME IN IN FEBRUARY 23RD.
STUDENTS ARE MATCHED IN APRIL AND WITH THEIR SCHOOLS OF CHOICE.
AND THEN OUR, OUR STUDENT MATCHING AS WELL. AND WE HAD TO SEND OUT ACCEPTANCE BY MAY.

SHE ALSO BEGAN SUPPORT GROUPS, WHICH BERNADETTE RUNS OVER AT THE EQUITY CENTER FOR LGBTQ AND UNDOCU.WE HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR SACHSE DEAN CALLED VERIFICATION OF DISABILITY, SO THAT WE CAN STREAMLINE OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE BATTLING MENTAL HEALTH DISORDER TO QUICKLY GET THEM INTO THE PROGRAM SO THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAIT.
AND THIS PAST YEAR, I WORKED WITH THE STEVE FUND.
SO WE HAD TO CREATE A STEERING COMMITTEE HERE ON CAMPUS. AND THE STEVE FUND IS A NONPROFIT THAT WORKS FOR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES TO BRING EQUITY AND MENTAL HEALTH ON CAMPUS, PARTICULARLY IN STUDENTS OF COLOR. AND WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF CREATING A PEER TO PEER PROGRAM.
SO A LITTLE OVERVIEW ON THE MENTAL HEALTH SIDE FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2425.
ANGELA AND HER GROUP SAW 315 UNDUPLICATED STUDENTS THAT TOTALED OVER 1000 VISITS.
THAT WAS 25% OF STUDENT HEALTH FOOT TRAFFIC. WE DO MEASURE AT BEGINNING, MIDDLE AND END OF TREATMENT, AND 88% OF STUDENTS EXPERIENCED A MEASURABLE REDUCTION IN DISTRESS.
5% MAINTAINED A NON-CLINICAL LEVEL OF DISTRESS.
THEY WERE STABLE AND SUPPORTED, AND ONLY FOUR STUDENTS DID NOT SHOW ANY SYMPTOM IMPROVEMENT.
GOING BACK TO THAT SHORT TERM HOURLY CLINICAL CASE MANAGEMENT POSITION THAT WE HAVE THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A GREAT POSITION THAT ANGELA CREATED STUDENTS THAT NEED ONGOING SUPPORT OR A HIGHER LEVEL OF CARE, PARTICULARLY PSYCHOTROPIC MEDICATION.
WE REFER THOSE STUDENTS TO NICOLE, OUR CLINICAL CASE MANAGER, AND GET THEM INTO THE SYSTEM, WHETHER THAT IS WITH MEDI-CAL, THEIR OWN INSURANCE, OR OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
WE REACHED OVER 2100 STUDENTS WITH 90 DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.
THERE'S A PICTURE OF IT RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE. WE HAD 300 STUDENTS VISIT OUR MEDITATION ROOM.
WE GET GREAT FEEDBACK ABOUT HOW CALMING IT IS.

I JUST WANTED TO TOUCH REAL QUICK ON THE RESEARCH THAT WE PARTICIPATED IN NATIONAL HEALTHY MIND SURVEY IN SPRING 25 WE HAD A 3.7% RESPONSE RATE. SO JUST OVER 1200 STUDENTS AND 64% OF STUDENTS AT CERRITOS COLLEGE ARE EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OF AT LEAST ONE SIGNIFICANT MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM.
THAT'S PRETTY CONSISTENT NATIONWIDE. AND OUR SATISFACTION RATES WITH OUR STUDENTS ARE 98%.
FOR THOSE THAT USE THE CAMPUS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.

UNFORTUNATELY, DURING THE 2024 LA FIRES, I WAS CALLED UPON FOR THE LA FIRE MISSION, SO I HAD TO TAKE A STEP BACK FROM SCHOOL RATHER THAN HAVING TO RUN TO EACH DEPARTMENT TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MY NEXT STEPS ARE. KATIE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN PROVIDING THE RESOURCES AND THE POINT OF CONTACT FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO CLEANLY TAKE A STEP BACK SO I COULD FOCUS ON THE MISSION. AND WHAT IT DID WAS REALLY PREVENT US FROM GETTING A FULL AMOUNT OF, OF ALLOCATION.

SO IT IS A BIGGER FACTOR THAN THAN THAN JUST, YOU KNOW, A PAYCHECK WOULD BE TO ANYBODY ELSE.

THE EFFORT OF GETTING INTO THE BRC, IDENTIFYING AS A STUDENT VETERANS AND MAKING THAT CONNECTION.
AND I SAY IDENTIFYING BECAUSE I HAD HAD OVER THE YEARS, THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH SOME OF OUR STUDENTS AND THE PART OF IDENTIFYING FOR SOME OF THEM IS A VERY HARD STEP. FOR MANY REASONS, THE WE KNOWN VETERAN MEMBERS

THEY WERE ALL 4 OR 5 YEARS YOUNGER THAN I WAS.
AND I WAS DESPERATELY SEEKING THAT LOST SENSE OF CAMARADERIE.
AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT THAT DRIVES ME EVERY DAY IN TERMS OF WHY WE PRIORITIZE THE WORK IN THE VRC.
SO MUCH HAPPENS KIND OF UNOFFICIALLY IN TERMS OF WHAT WE DO.
WE'VE SEEN STUDENTS COACH EACH OTHER ON WHICH CLASSES TO TAKE.
THEY WILL INFORMALLY TRY AND HELP EACH OTHER NAVIGATE VERY BUREAUCRATIC SYSTEMS AROUND THE VA AND VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SEEKING OUT, YOU KNOW, ADDITIONAL RESOURCES WITH THE VET CENTER OVER IN ORANGE COUNTY OR THE TIERNEY CENTER THROUGH GOODWILL.
AND THESE ARE THINGS THAT THEY CAN'T OFTEN JUST NAVIGATE THEMSELVES SO, SO READILY.
YOU KNOW, IN THE MILITARY, THERE WAS ALWAYS A LINE FOR THINGS. YOU COULD JUST GET IN LINE WHEN YOU NEEDED SOMETHING. AND NOW HAVING TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN CAN BE VERY, VERY ISOLATING AND CHALLENGING. AND SO THE VRC REALLY SERVES AS THAT HUB AND OFFERS THE RESOURCES RIGHT AT THEIR FINGERTIPS.
AND SOMETIMES IT'S CHALLENGING BECAUSE WE'RE, WE'RE WE'RE A HOUSE OF THREE, AND ALL IT TAKES IS FOR ONE OF THEM TO BE SICK AND THE OTHER ONE TO BE ON VACATION. AND THEN, YOU KNOW, QUESTIONS START TO PILE UP.
BUT YOU KNOW, WE THINK WITH WITH THE EFFORTS THAT WE'RE STRIVING TO MAKE NOW, YOU KNOW, OUR REPUTATION CONTINUES TO GROW AS, AS A AS A COLLEGE THAT REALLY, REALLY VALUES VETERANS AND VETERANS WILL TALK TO OTHER VETERANS.

I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE A MONTH AGO OF WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF CPIS.
VERY BRIEFLY, IT'S NOT GOING TO GO INTO THE MINUTIA OF EACH ONE OF THE ITEMS THAT WE TRACK.

WE FINISHED THE YEAR WITH 85% OR KPI GOAL WAS 80%.
WE EXCEEDED THE GOAL BY FIVE PERCENTAGE POINTS.
THE TRANSFER LEVEL MATH ATTENDS 71%. THE TARGET WAS 70.

TRANSFER LEVEL MATH AND ENGLISH ATTEMPT 67%. THE TARGET WAS 69 OR MORE CT UNITS.THE TARGET WAS 40. 43% OF THOSE NEW STUDENTS MEET THAT EXPECTATION.
THAT IS THE HIGHEST THE HIGHEST NUMBERS WE HAVE SHOWN AT CERRITOS COLLEGE THUS FAR.
AND THAT IS AGAIN THE WORK OF THE ENTIRE CAMPUS.
COMMUNITY OR COUNSELORS DID A GREAT JOB MAKING SURE THE STUDENTS WERE RECRUITED WHERE THEY NEEDED TO BE, OR LCP FACULTY AND STAFF. VERY GOOD JOB ADVISING OTHER STUDENTS.
SO THEY WERE IN THE CLASSES THEY NEEDED TO GO, OR FACULTY IN THE CLASSROOM MAKING SURE THEY OR STUDENTS ENGAGED OR DEANS AND DEPARTMENT CHAIR MAKING SURE THE CLASSES WERE AVAILABLE.
SO IN ORDER TO SHIFT OUR ENROLLMENT PATTERNS, WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CLASSES ARE THERE.
NOW, WE FELL SHORT ON A FEW NUMBERS. SO NOT EVERYTHING IS A TARGET THAT WE MET.
SO 15 DEGREE APPLICABLE UNIT OR TARGET WAS 80%.
WE WERE ABLE TO SECURE 76% TRANSFER ENGLISH COMPLETION.
THE TARGET WAS 70 OR NUMBER WAS 56. TRANSFER LEVEL MATH COMPLETION 38 OR TARGET WAS 55.
COMBAT MATH, COMBINED MATH AND ENGLISH COMPLETION OR TARGET WAS 45.
WE HIT 33%. WELL, WE HAVE A GAP THERE. THOSE NUMBERS THAT YOU SEE THERE ARE A SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT OF WHAT WE HAVE EVER DONE AT THE DISTRICT. WE KNEW WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT 50% IN FIVE YEARS OR LESS, IT SOUNDED LIKE AN EASY GOAL, BUT IT'S AN INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT GOAL TO HIT.
BUT AS WE TRACK THOSE AND EVERYONE ON CAMPUS RALLIES AROUND THE GOAL AND RALLIES AROUND MAKING SURE THAT THE STUDENTS ARE SERVING THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY, EVERY ONE OF THOSE NUMBERS THAT YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN, EVEN THOUGH WE DID NOT HIT OUR GOAL, IS A RECORD HIGH FOR OUR INSTITUTION. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NEXT? WE HAVE CREATED SIGNIFICANT MOMENTUM ACROSS THE CAMPUS.
WE HAVE CREATED MOMENTUM ACROSS OUR CURRICULUM OR SENATE OR FACULTY UNION, AND THEY TALK CONSISTENTLY. HOW DO WE DO THIS WORK? WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO? THE CONVERSATIONS IN CURRICULUM, HOW WE PRESENT THIS BETTER, THE CONVERSATION WITH THE LCC? WELL, THEY COLLABORATE. THEY'RE BECOMING COMPETITIVE.
I WAS REVIEWING AN AGENDA FOR A DEPARTMENT MEETING I HAVE TOMORROW, AND IT'S A REPORT OF LCP, AND IT'S ALL KIND OF ACCOLADES AROUND THAT. LIKE, WE'RE THE BEST, WE ROCK, SO ON AND SO FORTH, AND THAT'S WHAT WE WANT TO SEE, BECAUSE THAT TRANSLATES TO BE THE BEST EFFORT FOR OUR STUDENTS.
SO WE ARE THIS YEAR, WE ARE CURRENTLY FOCUSED ON PERSISTENCE AND PROGRESSION TO ENSURE THAT NOW THAT WE'RE ENROLLING MORE STUDENTS NOW THAT ARE COMPLETING AT A HIGHER RATE, WHAT CAN WE DO TO CLOSE THE GAP THAT WE DID NOT CLOSE THE YEAR BEFORE? WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE EARNING MORE CREDITS THAN EVER BEFORE EARN THE CREDITS THAT WE SAID WAS BEST FOR THEM? HOW CAN WE DO BETTER ADVISING MODELS? HOW CAN WE ENSURE THAT THE SYSTEMS THAT WE HAVE ON CAMPUS SUPPORT OUR COUNSELORS TO MEET THOSE GOALS? OUR MODEL IS CLEARLY WORKING.
THE RESULTS ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE, BUT I DO THINK THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO GET TO A POINT WHERE WE RECOGNIZE THE TARGETS THAT WE BLEW BY AND THOSE THAT WE DID NOT NECESSARILY HIT IN THE WAY THAT WE WANTED TO DO.
AND I DO THINK WE ARE IN A TIME IN WHICH THE MOMENTUM IS HIGH ENOUGH THAT SEEING THOSE NUMBERS, RATHER THAN BEING DISAPPOINTING, IS A MOMENT OF MOTIVATION.
WHEN WE WORK TOGETHER AND THE AND DEVELOP A PATH FORWARD.
WE ARE WORKING ON PROACTIVE OUTREACH AND ADVISING.
ROBIN AND HER ENTIRE STUDENT SERVICES TEAM ARE BEING MORE PROACTIVE, LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS AND CHECKING WHERE DO WE NEED TO DO ADDITIONAL OUTREACH TO? THE STUDENTS ARE READY TO GO RECENTLY? IN A FACULTY MEETING, I WAS WITNESS OF A CONVERSATION OF EARLIER SYSTEMS AND HOW OUR FACULTY ARE STARTING TO USE.

SO WE MAKE SURE THAT THE CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE, AVAILABLE WHEN THE STUDENTS NEED IT, THE CLASSES THAT THEY NEED, AND IN SEQUENCE THEY MAKE MORE SENSE.SO WE ARE NOT CREATING AN ADDITIONAL BARRIER FOR THE STUDENTS.
MOVING FORWARD, WE ARE GETTING BETTER AT CELEBRATING EVERY SUCCESS WE HAVE, AND WE FEEL THE CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS DOING THE DAY TO DAY WORK, BECAUSE THAT BUILDS ADDITIONAL MOMENTUM.
OUR COUNSELORS ARE WORKING ON MAKING SURE ALL THE STUDENTS ARE OFFERED THAT ONE ADDITIONAL CLASS.
ONE OF OUR GOALS IS TO IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE PART TIME, IT IS FINE.

HOW WE KNOW THAT WE'RE DOING GREAT. IT'S NOT JUST SIMPLY THE INTERNAL DATA THAT IS DOING THAT.
CERRITOS COLLEGE IS THE NUMBER ONE HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTION.
TWO YEARS SERVING INSTITUTION IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND SIX IN THE COUNTRY.
WE ARE AMONG COLLEGES LIKE MIAMI DADE, LIKE VALENCIA COLLEGE AND OTHER COLLEGES THAT HAVE CONSISTENTLY BEEN HIGHLIGHTED AS HIGH PERFORMANCE INSTITUTIONS. AND WE HAVE WORKED REALLY, REALLY HARD TO GET THERE.
AND I THINK IS WORTH CELEBRATING AND THANKING ALL OF OUR FACULTY, STAFF, ADMINISTRATORS AND EVERYONE AT THE CERRITOS CAMPUS COMMUNITY FOR THE WORK THE THE WE HAVE DONE.

WE REVIEW THOSE IN AC AND WE ARE BETTER THAN WE DID BEFORE.
THE CHALLENGE WITH THAT IS THAT WE NOT ONLY HAVE TO BE BETTER, BUT WE HAVE TO EXCEED OUR GOAL TO PICK UP THE NUMBERS THAT WE DIDN'T BRING WITH US FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. SO IF WE WERE GOING TO SEPARATE THE PERFORMANCE FROM GR2 FROM GR ONE.
GR TWO AT LEAST HALFWAY THROUGH LOOKS SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER THAN GR ONE.

IT WAS A THREE DAY CONFERENCE WHERE I GOT TO CONNECT WITH STUDENTS ACROSS THE STATE, AND I SERVE AS A REGIONAL OFFICER FOR REGION EIGHT, WHERE I SERVE AND REPRESENT 14 COMMUNITY COLLEGES FROM LA AND OK.

THE POLICE OFFICERS TOOK ON A FAMILY THAT WAS SELECTED BY OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT TO GO SHOPPING AND SO THEY COULD HAVE GIFTS FOR CHRISTMAS. I ALSO ATTENDED THE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FAIR IN DOWNEY.
SO THEY HAD A HUGE PREPAREDNESS FAIR IN THE EVENT OF AN EARTHQUAKE OR ANYTHING ELSE.
THERE WAS CPR DEMONSTRATIONS, AND WE GOT TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT.
PUTTING OUT A FIRE. HOW TO PUT OUT A FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS THERE.
SO IT WAS ANOTHER GREAT EVENT WHERE THERE WAS A LOT OF THINGS FOR THE COMMUNITY THERE IN DOWNEY, SO THAT WE ARE BETTER PREPARED IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
I ALSO DID THE CHRISTMAS PARADE, DOCTOR FIERRO AND DOCTOR GREEN.

AND THEY HAD A LOT OF DIFFERENT DANCE GROUPS AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS AND ACTIVITIES THAT OCCUR ON, ON THAT PARTICULAR EVENT. I ALSO DECIDED TO GO OUTSIDE OF OUR DISTRICT, AND I ATTENDED THE COWBOY CHRISTMAS EVENT IN SANTA FE SPRINGS. AND OF COURSE, WHOEVER I TALKED TO, I MADE SURE THEY KNEW WE WERE ACTUALLY NUMBER ONE AND THEY SHOULD COME TO US VERSUS ANYWHERE ELSE.

THE DIRECTION OF CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS PRODUCTIVE FOR THE STUDENTS, THAT IS WELCOMING TO OUR STUDENTS, AND THE FOSTER COLLABORATION AND POSITIVE CULTURE ON OUR CAMPUS AND THAT IS DUE TO EVERYONE HERE.
IT HAS ALSO BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT YEAR. WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED MANY CHALLENGES ACROSS THE DIFFERENT MONTHS, WEEKS AND SOMETIMES IN THE SAME DAY IN THIS YEAR.
CHALLENGES. THEY HAVE BEEN INTERNAL, BUT WHEN WE HAVE A TEAM LIKE THE ONE WE HAVE, THOSE CHALLENGES SEEM EASY TO OVERCOME. BUT THE CHALLENGES THEY HAVE REALLY CHALLENGED OUR OUR TEST OR ABILITY TO WORK TOGETHER AND STAY COMMITTED TO OUR GOAL HAVE COME FROM THE OUTSIDE. AND WE HAVE TAKEN THOSE CHALLENGES WITH A LOT OF COMMITMENT, A LOT OF ELEGANCE AND CALM CALMNESS ACROSS CAMPUS, AND WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO NAVIGATE EACH ONE OF THOSE IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY GIVEN THE CONDITIONS.
I WAS SHARING WITH OUR MANAGERS THAT IT FELT LIKE WHEN YOU'RE PLAYING AND YOU'RE PROBABLY UNDERSTAND THIS MORE THAN MANY OF US, WHEN YOU'RE PLAYING MARIO KART AND YOU'RE FOLLOWING SOMEONE AND THEY START THROWING BANANA PEELS AND SO ON, AND YOUR CAR SPINS EVERYWHERE AND YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO KEEP THE CAR GOING AND PUSH TO TRY TO WIN THE RACE.

AND SO WE HAD A GREAT TIME ON SATURDAY, AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DOWNEY CHRISTMAS PARADE WITH DOCTOR FIERRO AND MARIANA AND WE HAD A LOT OF WAVING AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS, MERRY CHRISTMAS, BUT IT WAS ALL JUST A GREAT TIME AND VERY APPRECIATIVE, APPRECIATIVE OF THOSE MOMENTS.
