THE PRIORITY WAS THAT STUDENTS LEARN TO BUILD THE COSTUMES AND SEE THEIR WORK ON STAGE.
WHEN THEY SEE THEIR WORK ON STAGE ON THE ACTOR, THEY GET ALL PROUD OF THEMSELVES, AND A LOT OF TIMES THEY WANT TO MAKE ADDITIONAL COSTUMES. THE THEATER TECHNICAL THEATER ADVISORY COMMITTEE SAID THAT THEY WANT THE STUDENTS TO LEARN AS MUCH CONSTRUCTION AS POSSIBLE FOR FOR THEM TO BE HIRED AND THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE IS COMPOSED OF PEOPLE FROM THE PROFESSIONALS, FROM THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY.
INSTEAD, THE STUDENTS ARE USED IN THE PRODUCTION CLASSES THAT SUPPORTS THE SHOWS, END UP BEING USED TO SORT BUTTONS AND CLEAR OUT THE CARGO CONTAINERS AND CLEAR OUT THE AREA BACKSTAGE.

I REALLY CARED DEEPLY THAT THE STUDENTS LEARN SKILLS THAT WILL GET THEM GAINFULLY EMPLOYED.
I WAS NOT A THEATER MAJOR INITIALLY. WHEN I WENT TO COLLEGE.
I LEARNED TO SEW BECAUSE I WAS TWO. MY PARENTS WERE TOO POOR TO BUY CLOTHES THAT WERE IN THE STORE, AND IT WAS IMPORTANT TO ME TO LOOK LIKE THE OTHER GIRL.
AND THE FORMER FACULTY, THEATER FACULTY, AND ALL THE PREVIOUS DEANS OF FINE ARTS REALLY SUPPORTED THE CONSTRUCTION, SCENERY, COSTUME, PROPS AND AND GETTING THE STUDENTS AS INVOLVED AS POSSIBLE IN THE SHOWS.

GETTING THE STUDENTS IN WORKING ON THE SHOWS AND MAKING SURE THERE WERE THINGS TO THAT THEY COULD DO BACKSTAGE TO HELP SUPPORT THE SHOWS AND REALLY AND GET THEM INTERACTING WITH THE ACTORS. WHEN SHE RETIRED, THE PRIORITY WENT MORE FOR MAKING MOUNTING THE SHOWS AS EASY AS POSSIBLE AND TEACHING STUDENTS TO BEGINNING STUDENTS TO TO BUILD COSTUMES TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE, BUT I REALLY WANT THEM TO GET THE SKILLS THAT THEY CAN WORK PROFESSIONALLY.THAT'S WHY IN 2022, I STARTED THE FALCON'S NEST ALTERATION TAILORING PROGRAM SO THAT ANY OF YOU.
ANYBODY WHO DONATES BUSINESS ATTIRE TO FALCON'S NEST.

UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO PERSONAL ISSUES, I HAD TO LEAVE IN 2018.
WHEN I RETURNED IN IN 2021 AND LATER WAS HIRED AS A STUDENT EMPLOYEE.
I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN ENROLLMENT WAS DOWN.
FEWER CLASSES WERE OFFERED AND PRODUCTION STRUGGLED FOR SUPPORT.
AS A STUDENT WORKER, I WITNESSED SEVERAL CLOSE SEVERAL ISSUES.
CLOSE UP. SORRY I'M NERVOUS AND COSTUMING ASSIGNMENTS WERE OFTEN HANDED TO US AT THE LAST MINUTE.
EVEN THOUGH THE DESIGNER BRAD HAD RECEIVED INFORMATION MONTHS IN ADVANCE.
IN ADDITION, COMMUNICATION OF THE FACULTY, WHICH IS DAVE, RICHARD, BRANT AND BRAD WITH SUSAN, WAS INCONSISTENT. LEAVING SUSAN TO RESPOND UNDER UNFAIR PRESSURE.
DESPITE COMPLETING ALL REQUIRED COSTUMING COURSES AND GAINING PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE, MY WORK HOURS WERE REDUCED IN FAVOR OF OUTSIDE HIRES WITH LESS EXPERIENCE. THIS IS NOT ONLY. THIS IS NOT ONLY LIMITED MY GROWTH, BUT ALSO SENT THE MESSAGE THAT STUDENT COMMITMENT AND TALENT WAS UNDERVALUED. I ALSO HEARD CONCERNS DIRECTLY FROM STUDENTS.
MANY WERE FRUSTRATED WITH REPEATED PRODUCTIONS CAUSING ISSUES AND LACK OF COURSE INSTRUCTION.
WHEN I ENCOURAGED THEM TO BRING CONCERNS TO THE DEAN, COUNSELORS AND HR, MOST RESPONDED WITH, I WON'T BE HERE MUCH LONGER ANYWAY. WHAT'S THE POINT? THE SENSE OF HOPELESSNESS WAS DISHEARTENING. ULTIMATELY, THE STAFF DYNAMIC, THE LACK OF COLLABORATION AND REDUCTION OF WORK HOURS LED ME TO STEP AWAY FROM CERRITOS AS BOTH A STUDENT, AS AN EMPLOYEE.
I SHARE THIS BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE PROGRAM CAN BE RESTORED TO WHAT IT WAS ONCE WAS A SPACE OF OPPORTUNITY, RESPECT, AND PRIDE FOR STUDENTS. SO I BROUGHT MY KID AND MY DAD AND EVERYONE ELSE TO TO WATCH THAT.
AND IT WAS IT WAS REALLY NICE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THAT AMPHITHEATER THAT I HAD ALWAYS SEEN, BUT NOBODY HAD EVER USED IT FOR BASICALLY AS LONG AS I'D BEEN ALIVE.
SO IT'S NICE THAT WE GET TO ACTUALLY USE OUR PUBLIC SPACES AND REVITALIZE OUR COMMUNITY.
SO GOOD JOB FOR LA MIRADA TO TO DO THAT. AND GOOD JOB FOR CERRITOS COLLEGE LOOKING INTO THE BOLD, BRAVE STEP OF BRINGING ESPORTS LEAGUE TO OUR CAMPUS.
SO HAVING JUST SPECTATED THE POKEMON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ANAHEIM AND GONE TO THE THE ARENA CONVENTION CENTER WITH THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF PRODUCTION VALUE TO SEE HOW MUCH ESPORTS HAS GROWN AS A WORLDWIDE PHENOMENON.
AND I THINK THAT IF WE MAKE AN INVESTMENT SIMILAR TO THAT, NOT QUITE THE SAME AMOUNT, BUT SIMILAR TO THAT AT THE CERRITOS COLLEGE LEVEL, THAT CAN BRING IN MANY MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT HAVE THAT SENSE OF CAMARADERIE.
AND SO I THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT WHY WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, BUILDINGS AND EVERYTHING'S NOT JUST ONLINE IS BECAUSE OF THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND WHY WE ARE KNOWN AS COMMUNITY COLLEGES, NOT JUNIOR COLLEGES ANYMORE, IS BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE THAT YOU MEET THAT YOU OTHERWISE WOULDN'T SEE ON, YOU KNOW, A FORUM THAT YOU'RE JUST TYPING IN YOUR RESPONSES TO AND BEING REQUIRED TO RESPOND TO SOMEONE OR, YOU KNOW, WATCH A VIDEO OF A PROFESSOR.
