THE DISTRICT CAN UPHOLD FAIRNESS WHILE ALSO FISCALLY BEING FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE.
RESERVING AS OR OR SORRY, RESERVING THE HARSHEST PENALTIES FOR ONLY THE MOST EGREGIOUS VIOLATIONS.

THIS YEAR, OUR MESSAGE TO THE LEGISLATURES WAS CLEAR AND UNWAVERING.
SECURING STUDENTS FUTURES. WE ARTICULATED THE FOLLOWING THREE CRITICAL DEMANDS FUND EDUCATION.
EXPAND STUDENT SUPPORT. OUR STUDENTS DESERVE MORE THAN JUST BARE MINIMUM.
THEY NEED ROBUST WRAPAROUND SERVICES TO THRIVE, NOT JUST TO SURVIVE.
THEY NEED ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES, TUTORING, AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING.
DEMON NUMBER TWO RESPECT HIGHER EDUCATION'S VITAL ROLE.
WE'RE NOT SIMPLY A LINE ITEM IN A BUDGET. WE ARE A FOUNDATION OF CALIFORNIA'S FUTURE WORKFORCE, ITS INNOVATORS, ITS PROBLEM SOLVERS, AND ITS ENGAGED CITIZENS.
WE ARE IN AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF THE STATE.
FINALLY ENSURING FAIR PAY AND WORKING CONDITIONS.
OUR FACULTY AND STAFF ARE THE BACKBONES OF OUR INSTITUTIONS.
THEY DESERVE AND WE DESERVE FAIR COMPENSATION AND EQUITABLE WORKING CONDITIONS.

THIS IS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF CALIFORNIA. IT'S ABOUT ENSURING THAT EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF THEIR BACKGROUND OR FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE A QUALITY EDUCATION.

THIS JANUARY, WE EMBARKED ON A STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS WITH THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND WE CAME UP WITH A NEW MISSION AND ALSO A VISION AND VALUES FOR THE FOUNDATION. I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO THEM. YOU CAN SEE THEM ON YOUR SCREEN, BUT THIS REALLY MARKS AN IMPORTANT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR US.
I'M REALLY HAPPY TO REPORT TO YOU THAT FOR THE SPRING 2025 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS, WE HAVE ACTUALLY RECEIVED 513 COMPLETED APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS.
A 1027 WERE STARTED, AND THIS IS IN COMPARISON TO 239 THAT WERE COMPLETED LAST SPRING AND 714 WERE STARTED BUT NOT COMPLETED. AND I REALLY HAVE TO GIVE KUDOS TO ERIC CALDERON AND MY TEAM.
HE'S BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN MAKING SURE THAT HE'S DOING PRESENTATIONS ACROSS CAMPUS.
HE'S REACHING OUT TO ALL THE RIGHT GROUPS. HE'S TALKING TO OUR STUDENTS AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HE'S HELPING OUR STUDENTS FILL OUT THEIR APPLICATIONS AND APPLY, WHICH IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

WE ALSO WELCOME TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS. ONE OF THEM HAPPENS TO BE AN ALUMNUS OF THE COLLEGE, AND HE WAS A FORMER STUDENT PRESIDENT HERE AND VERY ACTIVE, AND WE'RE VERY HAPPY TO HAVE HIM.

WE ALSO, IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING TO ENSURE WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK, WE INSTITUTED A GIVE OR GET POLICY OF $5,000 FOR BOARD MEMBERS TO SUPPORT FINANCIALLY THE ORGANIZATION.
NOW BOARD MEMBERS CAN SERVE FOR THREE YEARS, TWO CONSECUTIVE TERMS, WHICH WILL BE THE MAXIMUM.
AND THEN THEY HAVE TO STEP DOWN FOR ONE YEAR AND COME BACK AND BE RECONSIDERED FOR BOARD MEMBERSHIP.

A REALLY EXCITING PROJECT THAT I AM ABSOLUTELY THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE TONIGHT IS THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE WORKING ON A PROGRAM ENTITLED WOMEN AND PHILANTHROPY, AND WE ARE SEEKING FOUNDING MEMBERS FOR THE GROUP HERE AT THE COLLEGE.AND THESE ARE GOING TO BE WOMEN WHO ARE MAJOR DONORS, LEADERS AND DECISION MAKERS, AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THAT ALIGN WITH THEIR PASSIONS AND THEIR INTERESTS, HELPING TO IMPACT AND SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE COLLEGE.
WOMEN AND PHILANTHROPY IS SOMETHING THAT WE BELIEVE IS GOING TO BE MAKING A TREMENDOUS IMPACT IN THE FUTURE AS WE LOOK AHEAD TO EMBARK EITHER POSSIBLY ON A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, AND ALSO JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE HELP TO ADVANCE THE DIFFERENT PRIORITIES OF THE COLLEGE AND SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS IN COMPLETING THEIR EDUCATION AND ACHIEVING THEIR CAREER OBJECTIVES.
AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, SINCE THE LAST TIME I WAS HERE, WE HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY WORKING ON A CAMPAIGN GOAL TO RAISE HALF $1 MILLION IN SUPPORT OF TEACHER TRACK. THIS YEAR, THEY'RE CELEBRATING THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY.
IT'S A TOP TEN TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES.
IT'S THE FIRST COHORT MODEL IN GUIDED PATHWAY.
HERE AT THE COLLEGE, AND I'M PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT AS OF TODAY, WE ARE HALFWAY THERE.
WE ARE 250,000 PLUS TOURISTS, OR HALF $1 MILLION GOAL.

TO HAVE MORE STUDENTS, WE WILL IMPROVE ON STUDENT ACTUAL STUDENTS EQUITY BECAUSE NOW WITH THE INC, 100 L STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN A COMPETITIONS WILL ALSO GET THE CREDITS, SO THEY WILL BE AWARDED FOR THE WORK THEY DID FOR THE CLUB AND WHEN THEY ARE GOING FOR THE EMPLOYMENT, THAT'S CONSIDERED AS ACTUALLY WORK EXPERIENCE OR AS INTERNSHIP, THAT CAN BE DOCUMENTED ALSO ON A TRANSCRIPT.

AND THEY HAD A STUDENT AS YOUNG AS 16 YEARS OLD WHO COMPLETED THEIR CERTIFICATE OF COMPLEX CALIFORNIA CERTIFICATE OF OUR CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION FOR LIKE THE THE ENGINEERING DESIGN TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, DESIGN AND PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY.
AND THAT'S OUR E T E AND G T 103 CLASS. SO THAT'S LIKE THE FEEDER CLASS.

AND IT PRIORITIZES THE DEVELOPMENT OF OER IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE OVERALL COST OF EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS AND DECREASE THE TIME IT TAKES FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE THEIR DEGREES.
SO OER REFERS TO FREE, HIGH QUALITY EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS AND FACULTY IN OPEN LICENSES AND ZTC IS ZERO TEXTBOOK COST TO STUDENTS. SO IT'S THE TITLE OF THE GRANT AND THE PROGRAM.
MANY STUDENTS STRUGGLE TO AFFORD TEXTBOOKS, SUPPLIES, AND THE THINGS ASSOCIATED WITH COLLEGE EDUCATION, SO IT LEADS TO FINANCIAL AND ACADEMIC STRESS FOR THEM.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS OFTEN INCLUDE TEXTBOOKS, ACCESS CODES, SUPPLIES, CAREER SPECIFIC RESOURCES, AND STUDENTS IN CALIFORNIA SPEND AN AVERAGE OF $938 PER YEAR ON THESE MATERIALS.
LAST YEAR, STUDENTS AT CERRITOS COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID PULLED SOME INFORMATION AND FOUND THAT OUR STUDENTS SPEND AN AVERAGE OF $1,062 PER YEAR, WHICH IS HIGHER THAN THE STATE AVERAGE. SO OUR FOCUS IS ON LOWERING THOSE COSTS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

PLUS, THERE IS A WAY FOR STUDENTS TO FILTER WHETHER A CLASS HAS OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES OR ARE LOW TEXTBOOK COSTS, SO YOU CAN FILTER FOR ZERO TEXTBOOK COSTS, YOU CAN FILTER FOR LOW TEXTBOOK COSTS.AND IN 2024, OUR FACULTY SENATE DEFINED LOW TEXTBOOK COSTS AS $50 OR LESS.
SO WHEN STUDENTS GO INTO SCHEDULE+, THEY CAN JUST LOOK AT COURSES THAT HAVE THAT ATTRIBUTE.
AND NOW I'M GOING TO PASS IT TO MY FACULTY COLLEAGUES TO TALK ABOUT THE WORK THAT'S BEEN GOING ON.
OKAY, SO THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF THE HISTORY OF WHERE IT IS THAT WE'VE COME FROM.
IN 2022, WE RECEIVED OUR INITIAL $20,000 TO BEGIN PLANNING TO INCREASE THESE CTC PATHWAYS.
IN 2023, WE RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL $180,000. AND IN THAT TIME, WE HAD IDENTIFIED A LIKELY PROGRAM THAT WOULD ALONG WITH GENERAL EDUCATION, WOULD BE ZERO TEXTBOOK COST WITHIN THAT ACADEMIC YEAR SO OR BY 2024.
AND AT THAT TIME, I WORKED WITH HER TO FIND OTHER DEPARTMENTS ON CAMPUS SO THAT WE COULD MAKE A FULL GENERAL EDUCATION AND CAREER PATHWAY FOR PHILOSOPHY. SO DURING 2024 WE COMPLETED THAT.
WE ALSO THOSE DURING THAT TIME FACULTY WHO WERE CREATING THE OER AND ZTC RESOURCES FOR THE GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSES AND FOR THE PHILOSOPHY PATHWAY CREATED SHELLS ON THE CANVAS INTERFACE THAT INCLUDED ALL OF THE INFORMATION AND ALL OF THE ZERO TEXTBOOK COSTS, HOW TO USE THE TEXTBOOK AND THE MATH DEPARTMENT FOR THE STATISTICS CLASS. THEY BUILT THEIR WEBSITE THAT HAD OR THEIR CANVAS COURSE THAT HAD THE THE ZERO TEXTBOOK COST, THE OER AND OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES. AND NOW ALL OF THEIR PART TIME FACULTY ARE USING THAT SAME RESOURCE.
IN 2024, WE HIRED AN OER LIBRARIAN. WE RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL 125,000 TO EXPAND THE DEGREE PATHWAYS TO ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS. ART HISTORY, ENGLISH, GEOGRAPHY, GEOLOGY, AND HISTORY.
WORKED IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE STATE TO FILL IN SOME GAPS OF PLACES WHERE WE NEEDED ADDITIONAL OER RESOURCES IN ORDER TO MAKE WIDER PATHWAYS. AND IN 2024, THAT SAME YEAR, WE RECEIVED $200,000 FOR THE VISUAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES ZTC DEGREE PATHWAY. THIS IS A UNIQUE PROGRAM IN THE STATE.
OKAY. WHAT DO I CLICK THIS ONE. OKAY. OKAY. SO SINCE LYNN HAS MENTIONED THE WHAT WE'VE RECEIVED, I'M JUST GOING TO LET YOU KNOW WHAT WE HAVE RECENTLY.
ALSO FOUND OUT THAT WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED AS WELL.
SO EACH COLLABORATION, FOUR OF THE FIVE COLLABORATION COHORTS JUST BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS APPLIED FOR ADDITIONAL MONIES TO CONTINUE THAT WORK, AND ALL WERE AWARDED. WE ALSO APPLIED FOR AN ACCELERATION GRANT TO THE WOODWORKING TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT TO CREATE THE INTRODUCTORY TEXTBOOK THAT LEADS TO ALL OF THE OTHER COURSES TO MAKE THAT A FULLY ZTC PATHWAY.
AND THEN THE DAY THAT THE DAY AFTER WINTER BREAK STARTED, WE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT THE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE DETERMINED THAT EACH CAMPUS WITH THE REMAINING FUNDS WOULD RECEIVE $320,000.
SO WE'RE CALLING THAT OUR CTC 2025 ALLOCATION.
AND THAT IS THE NEW POT OF MONEY THAT WE WILL BE USING TO CONTINUE TO EXPAND THESE PATHWAYS.
YEAH. SO THIS IS THE EXCITING PART. YEAH, I HAVE THE DISTINCT PRIVILEGE ABOUT BRAGGING ABOUT MY COLLEAGUES AND HIGHLIGHTING THE PHENOMENAL WORK THAT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE, WHAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW AND WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.

THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT AND LOCAL FIRST RESPONDERS WAS DESIGNED TO ENHANCE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, AND THE PRESENTATION WILL BE GIVEN BY OUR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, FELIPE LOPEZ.

WE ARE GOING TO START IF WE, GOD FORBID, EVER HAVE ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN.
BUT THOSE AGENCIES NEED TO COME AND COLLABORATE WITH US SO WE CAN WORK IN UNISON AS A TEAM.
OUR SECOND GOAL WAS TO HAVE A UNIFIED COMMAND WITH THE LA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT.
LA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT WOULD COME AND HELP WITH THE TRIAGE AND RESCUE OF PERSONNEL.
AFTER WE HAVE SECURED THE SCENE, YOU WILL SEE SOME OF THE TIME OR HERE.
LA COUNTY FIREMEN WILL NOT MOVE IN TO A SCENE THAT'S STILL HOT.
WE ESTABLISHED THAT GOAL SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE RUN, HIDE AND FIGHT VIDEO WAS SHOWN TO FACULTY AND STUDENTS IN THEIR CLASSROOM. THE MASS MAJORITY OF STAFF AND STUDENTS WERE HERE ON CAMPUS.
THEY WERE ABLE TO ROUNDTABLE IN THEIR CLASSROOMS AND DISCUSS THE THINGS THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO, YOU KNOW, RUN IF THEY CAN HIDE USING ITEMS TO BARRICADE WINDOWS OR DOORS.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, HOPEFULLY NEVER HAVE TO FIGHT.
THE HEALING. WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 50 ROLE PLAYERS.
SOME OF THEM WERE OUR STUDENTS WHO VOLUNTEERED TO BE PART OF THIS.
I WAS ABLE TO SPEAK TO A COUPLE OF OUR STUDENTS.
I KIND OF HANG OUT AROUND THE TRACK TEAM, AND I MET A COUPLE OF STUDENTS THEY TALKED ABOUT JUST EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS ROLE PLAYING, THERE WAS A LITTLE TRAUMA INVOLVED FOR THEM. SO I MADE SURE THAT THEY, HEY, SEEK COUNSELING, GO TO SEE WHOEVER YOU NEED TO SEE ON CAMPUS, BE IT US OR GOING OVER TO STUDENT HEALTH TO MAKE YOURSELF BETTER.
AND THERE WAS ANOTHER GREAT POINT. I COULD THIS COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE.
AND I THINK A LOT OF THE STUDENTS AND STAFF REALIZE IT COULD HAPPEN AT A MALL.
IT COULD HAPPEN IN A CHURCH. WE'VE SEEN IT ALL OVER.
SO IT WASN'T JUST A GREAT DRILL FOR HERE, BUT IT'S A GREAT DEAL DRILL FOR EVERYWHERE.
AND THEN ONE OF THE OTHER GOALS THAT WE WERE TRYING TO ACHIEVE IS THIS ALSO PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY TO TEST ALL OF OUR EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION ALERT SYSTEMS ON IT. AND THIS IS JUST A HANDFUL OF OF ALL THE ALERTS THAT WE HAVE ON CAMPUS.
AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THAT WE WANT TO SHOW REAL QUICK IS SOME LESSONS LEARNED ON THAT.
SO BECAUSE THERE'S ALWAYS WE WANT TO LEARN FROM ANY OF THESE EVENTS.

AND WHAT ARE YOU ALREADY DOING ALREADY? AND SO, JUST LIKE, TRYING TO PUSH IT FORWARD.
AND WE'RE THINKING OF MAKING IT LIKE A BIG EVENT, LIKE INVITING, NOT NOT JUST HAVING SENATE,

AND ANOTHER EVENT, IT WILL BE NEXT MONTH.IT WILL BE A CULTURE SHOWCASE. SO WE KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW IT'S NOT JUST THE HISPANIC POPULATION THAT IS BEING TARGETED TO BEING SUPPORTED BY ALL OTHER CULTURES AS WELL.
AND SO WHAT WE WANTED TO DO WAS HIGHLIGHT A LOT OF OUR CULTURES AND WILL HAVE WILL BE TABLING ACROSS CAMPUS AND WILL BE WILL BE PLANNING SOME ACTIVITIES FOR THE STUDENTS TO DO AND COME WE'LL BE HAVING IT AT THE END OF APRIL.

I ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE ANNUAL SILVER SHIELD AWARD FOR WHITTIER, RECOGNIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND ALL THEIR HARD EFFORTS, AND GOT TO HEAR A LOT OF THE DIFFERENT POLICE OFFICERS, WHAT THEY DID, HOW THEY MADE AN IMPACT IN THEIR COMMUNITY.
AND I'M SURE ALL THE COMMUNITIES HAVE THAT HAVE POLICE OFFICER DEPARTMENTS ALSO HAVE THAT TYPE OF IMPACT. BUT WHAT I LOVE IS THE FACT THAT THE CITY OF WHITTIER DOES MAKE THE EFFORT TO RECOGNIZE AND FOR THE POLICE OFFICERS TO TELL THEIR STORY AND HOW THEY MADE AN IMPACT TO THEIR COMMUNITY.
I ALSO GOT TO PARTICIPATE FOR DOWNEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE TLC FIVE K RUN THAT MISS DON GREEN FORGOT TO MENTION THAT SHE YOU PARTICIPATED IN. AND SHE RAN THE FIVE-K.

IT WAS WELL ATTENDED.
