AND WE SAID THAT BY 2029, 50% OF OUR STUDENTS SHOULD GRADUATE IN FIVE YEARS OR LESS.
NOW, THAT MAY SOUND LIKE IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL, BUT IT'S A HUGE DEAL.
IT'S A HUGE DEAL FOR OUR COMMUNITY, FOR OUR STUDENTS.
BECAUSE IF YOU LOOK AT THE HISTORY OF OUR COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND HOW THEY'RE COMPLETING AND WHAT THEY'RE DOING, YOU KNOW, THEY GET STUCK HERE AND WE DON'T WANT THAT ANYMORE.

FOR EXAMPLE, THE ENROLLMENT IN 15 PLUS UNITS AND PASSING MATH AND INCREASING GRADUATION RATES.
SO. YEAH. YEAH, SOMETHING THAT WE WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN TALKING ABOUT AS WELL, LIKE DURING OUR MEETINGS, BECAUSE OUR STUDENT TRUSTEE, KATHY, HAD BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE WITH US ALL.
AND SO WE TOOK INITIATIVE AND WE CAME UP WITH A COUPLE IDEAS ABOUT IT.
SOME OF THE IDEAS WAS TO MODEL SOME OF THE EXISTING PROFESSORS KIND OF CURRICULUM, ESPECIALLY THE PROFESSORS WHO HAVE A HIGH PASSING RATE, ESPECIALLY WITH MOSTLY A'S, AND KIND OF MODELED THAT WITH DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS ON CAMPUS.
AND SOMETHING ELSE WOULD BE TO HAVE LONGER TUTORING SESSIONS AT THE SUCCESS CENTER, BECAUSE SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS HAVE SHARED WITH US SPECIFICALLY WAS THAT THEY FOUND THAT 30 MINUTES ESPECIALLY LIKE WITH SORRY, OH, SORRY, IT'S 20 MINUTES.
SO THAT'S KIND OF LIKE TWO OF THE MANY EXAMPLES THAT WE HAVE.
SO I'M ALSO A STUDENT AMBASSADOR. SO I WORK WITH SCHOOL RELATIONS AND WE RECENTLY HAD AN ENROLLMENT SERVICES DIVISION MEETING, AND WE JUST DISCUSSED SOME THINGS TO HELP STUDENTS ENROLL FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER.
SO A BIG PROBLEM IS THAT A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS ARE HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS, SPECIFICALLY THE SPECIFIC STEPS. SO RIGHT NOW WE'RE WORKING ON CALL CAMPAIGNS AND JUST CALLING STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE THEY GET THE HELP THEY NEED TO ENROLL.

SO SHE'S ALWAYS SUCH A GREAT SPORT, BUT WE HAD A GREAT TIME WITH THE STUDENTS. AND THEN I MENTIONED I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND A LARGE PART OF THE AFTERNOON WITH OUR UNDOCU LIGHT PROGRAM, AND, AND WE HAVE SOME REALLY GOOD CONVERSATIONS.
SO IT'S ALWAYS GREAT TO SPEND A DAY WITH THE STUDENTS TO KEEP YOU HONEST ABOUT THE WORK WE DO.
IT WAS GREATLY APPRECIATED. AND FOR THEIR ENDORSEMENT, IT MEANT A LOT TO ME THAT YOU ACTUALLY WANTED ME BACK AND AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

ALSO I PARTICIPATED IN THE TURKEY GIVEAWAY AND FOR THANKSGIVING FOR DISTRICT 64, WE GAVE AWAY CLOSE TO 1500 TURKEYS AND 300 HAMS. SO IT WAS A REALLY GREAT EVENT. A LOT OF PARTICIPATION FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES OF DISTRICT 64.I ALSO PARTICIPATED IN, OF COURSE, IN THE DOWNEY PARADE.
SEVERAL OF US DID. IT WAS GREAT. I AM HAPPY THAT TRUSTEE SALAZAR WAS WITH ME AND TRUSTEE GREEN.
WE ALL ENJOYED GOING THROUGH AND, YOU KNOW, SAYING HI TO THE RESIDENTS OF DOWNEY.
I ALSO PARTICIPATED IN SHOP WITH A COP IN DOWNEY.
SO FOR ME, THAT'S AN IMPORTANT EVENT. WE TAKE KIDS THAT BASICALLY WOULD NOT HAVE A CHRISTMAS, WOULD NOT HAVE GIFTS. AND SO DOWNEY PD ALWAYS HAS A SHOP WITH THE COP AND I ALWAYS TRY TO HELP OUT. SINCE THEY STARTED THAT PROGRAM IN DOWNEY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE KIDS HAVE A GOOD CHRISTMAS, THOSE THAT REALLY NEED IT, AND TO SEE THEIR FACES, TO BE ABLE TO GO AROUND AND GET WHAT THEY WANTED AND COME OUT AND WE WRAP THEIR GIFTS FOR THEM AND SEE THEIR FACES, IT MEANS VOLUMES.
IT JUST SPEAKS. IT MAKES YOU. IT MAKES YOUR HEART FEEL WARM WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
