I THINK YOU'VE ALSO. THE REASON WHY THAT'S MEANINGFUL, I THINK, IS NOT JUST BECAUSE YOU'VE STUCK AROUND US WHICH IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT IN AND OF ITSELF. BUT ALSO BECAUSE OF BEING ABOVE AVERAGE IN TERMS OF THE, THE, WHAT YOU'RE DELIVERING IN YOUR ROLE.
AND OBVIOUSLY ALL THE LISTS OF ACHIEVEMENTS THERE HAVE SPAN A HUGE VARIETY OF PEOPLE.
BUT IN ORDER FOR GOOD PEOPLE TO WORK TOGETHER AND ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING, NINE TIMES OUT OF TEN, YOU NEED TO HAVE GOOD LEADERSHIP. AND SO THAT'S BEEN REALLY MEANINGFUL.
SO I THINK YOU GET YOU GET TO TAKE CREDIT. AND I KNOW YOU'RE SLOW TO TAKE CREDIT FOR THOSE THINGS.
AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO NINE MORE YEARS, PROBABLY 18 MORE YEARS, HOWEVER MANY MORE YEARS HERE.
BUT I JUST WANT TO JUST THANK YOU FOR FOR THAT.
I KNOW, YOU KNOW, THERE WERE THERE WAS A TIME DURING COVID WHEN DOCTOR FIERRO AND I SAT DOWN AND HAD SOME REALLY, LIKE, TOUGH CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN? RIGHT? THE WORLD WAS SO UNCERTAIN AND IT WAS WASN'T CLEAR, LIKE, WHAT DOES THIS COLLEGE EVEN GOING TO BE AFTER AFTERWARD.
AND, YOU KNOW, THROUGH A LOT OF THROUGH A LOT OF SOUL SEARCHING AND THEN IDEA MAKING AND THEN PLANNING AND THEN STRATEGY AND MOSTLY ALL ON DOCTOR FIERRO AND THE REST OF THE TEAM'S BEHALF.
LIKE WE CAME OUT THE OTHER SIDE AND WE CAME OUT STRONGER.
SO KUDOS TO YOU, DOCTOR FIERRO. AND AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO ALL THE YEARS AHEAD.
I CAME ON THE BOARD SHORTLY BEFORE DOCTOR FIERRO CAME ON, AND I THINK WE ARE LIVING IN THE BEST TIMELINE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF THE CHOICES THAT WE MADE AT THAT TIME. THIS IS WHAT SOME MIGHT CALL THE CANON EVENT OF CERRITOS COLLEGE THAT WE GOT PLACED ON A PATH BECAUSE OF DOCTOR FIERRO'S TENACITY, LONGEVITY, VISION, ANY ANY NOUN THAT YOU WANT TO USE, AND I AM JUST MORE AND MORE IMPRESSED, YEAR BY YEAR AT YOUR LEADERSHIP IN MAKING SURE THAT CERRITOS COLLEGE IS NOT JUST DOING ITS JOB,

IT'S GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND AND FINDING NOT ONLY THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO FILL THE POSITIONS THAT HAVE COME AND GONE OVER THE YEARS, BUT TO ALSO WORK VERY CLOSELY WITH US AS BOARD MEMBERS TRANSPARENTLY AND AT SUCH A LEVEL AS TO MAKE SURE THAT EACH OF US, AS INDIVIDUALS, HAVE OUR ABILITY TO PLACE OUR OWN MARK THROUGH YOU, THROUGH THE REST OF THE CAMPUS.I IT'S JUST INCREDIBLE TO SEE THIS BUILDING, LIKE YOU WERE SAYING EARLIER TODAY, THAT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A CENTRAL LOCATION IN CERRITOS COLLEGE TO HAVE BEFORE. AND I'VE GONE TO OTHER COLLEGES, YOU KNOW, OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS NOW THAT HAVE THAT.
AND IT'S LIKE, WHY DOESN'T CERRITOS HAVE THAT? AND I THINK THAT NOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE ONE AND PROBABLY THE BEST ONE IN ALL OF CALIFORNIA, IF NOT, YOU KNOW, WHATEVER REASON, WHATEVER, YOU KNOW AREA.
YOU'RE KIND OF LIKE THAT WEIGHT ON THE OTHER END, PUSHING THE MEDIAN OR PUSHING THE MEAN.
SOMEONE WHO'S A DATA ANALYST, JUST TELL ME IF I'M WRONG.

SO I THINK IT TAKES A COMBINATION OF PEOPLE TO DO WHAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. AND. I CONSIDER MYSELF INCREDIBLY FORTUNATE OF BEING HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. I NEVER IMAGINED DOING A JOB LIKE THIS.
AND HERE WE ARE. NEVER IMAGINED STAYING THIS LONG.
AND HERE WE ARE. AND AND AND EVERY DAY IS BETTER.
OF COURSE WE DO HAVE DIFFERENT DIFFICULT DAYS.
WE ARE NOT A PERFECT PLACE. BUT I DON'T THINK PERFECT PLACES EXIST.
AND THE GRASS IS NOT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE.
THE GRASS IS GREENER WHERE YOU WATER IT. AND I THINK WE HAVE BEEN DOING THAT DAY IN AND DAY OUT.
SO OUR GRASS IS GREENER BECAUSE WE WATERED THAT GRASS, AND I JUST CAN'T REALLY REMEMBER THE DAYS IN WHICH I DON'T WANT TO COME TO WORK. I LIKE TO COME TO WORK HERE.
BUT IF YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING THAT YOU DON'T LIKE.
I ASSUMING IT WILL BE THAT MUCH HARDER. NOW, I HAVE NO BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT NINE YEARS BY CONTRADICTING MY BOSSES. BUT I GUESS I'M GOING TO TAKE SOME LIBERTIES SINCE EVERYONE IS IN A GOOD MOOD TODAY.
AND 5.1 WAS THE WORK THAT HAPPENED TO TO UP TO 2019.
AND PART OF THE WORK WE DID WAS A LOT OF TRAINING AT THE STATE LEVEL FOR TRUSTEES AND CEOS, AND MARISA EVENTUALLY ENDED UP GETTING INTO THE SAME COMMITTEE.
SO AT THE TIME WHEN WE CAME IN, IT WAS ABOUT THREE YEARS.
IT WENT CLOSER TO FIVE OR SOMEWHERE AROUND THERE.
BUT AFTER COVID ACTUALLY IS RIGHT BELOW THE TWO, THE THREE YEAR MARK.

ABOUT SOME ISSUES THAT ARE TAKING PLACE AT THE STATE.AND HE SAID, WELL, WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. AND I SAID, WHY US? AND HE SAID, WELL, BECAUSE WE'RE THE SENIOR PEOPLE. AND WE STARTED LAUGHING BECAUSE BOTH OF US ARE HAVE BEEN AT THE SYSTEM AS CEOS FOR, FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THEY I DON'T NECESSARILY THINK NINE YEARS IS A LONG TIME FOR YOU TO BECOME A SENIOR PERSON ON ANYTHING, BUT THERE IS ONLY. I THINK IT'S 15 OF US.
THEY HAVE BEEN, SIX OR MORE YEARS AT THE ENTIRE STATE.
AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME, I THINK IT TAKES LIKE 60% OF ALL CEOS TO MAKE THE TOTAL TENURE OF YEARS. THE DOCTOR VANHOOK. DIANE VANHOOK THE COLLEGE OF THE CANYON HAS BEEN SERVING.
WHAT THAT BASICALLY MEANS IS THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE CEOS AT THE STATE LEVEL ARE ONE YEAR, FIRST YEAR CEOS. THE SECOND LARGEST GROUPS ARE TWO YEAR CEOS.
AND I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE TO BE HERE BECAUSE I FEEL THAT STABILITY IS NOT JUST GOOD FOR THE INSTITUTION, BUT I FEEL THAT YOU'RE ALSO HELPING ME BY GIVING ME A STABILITY AND A SENSE OF BELONGING.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ITEM, WHICH IS OUR OPEN SESSION.AGENDA 3.01 INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATION, STATE BUDGET UPDATE.
SO WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF COMMENTS ON THAT.
THE FIRST ONE IS THE OBVIOUSLY, WE APPROVED THE TENTATIVE BUDGET LAST LAST BOARD MEETING, AND THE SECOND ONE IS THE SCENES WE HAVE RECEIVED. THE GOOD NEWS THAT OR FUNDING FOR HOUSING NOW IS A REALITY.
SO WE ARE WAITING FOR THE DETAILS AS TO HOW WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE MONEY AND SPEND THE MONEY AND SO ON, BUT NOW IS ACTUALLY A DONE DEAL. SB 155 WAS ALREADY APPROVED, SIGNED, AND NOW WE'RE JUST SIMPLY WAITING FOR THE DETAILS. SO UNLESS SOMETHING REALLY DRASTIC HAPPENS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS.
SO, PHILIPPE. YEAH, AND AS DOCTOR WOULD KNOW, THE BILL HAS BEEN SIGNED.
NOW WE'RE JUST WORKING OUT THE DETAILS AND THE MECHANICS BEHIND THAT. SO THE STATE JUST PUBLISHED UPCOMING WEBINAR EARLY AUGUST TO LEARN MORE DETAILS ABOUT EXACTLY HOW THE STATE THE STATE LEASE REVENUE BOND WOULD WORK.

SO WE'RE IN DESIGN DEVELOPMENT RIGHT NOW. IT'S GOING GREAT.
WE DO PLAN TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE TO THE BOARD KIND OF ON THAT AND SHOW BECAUSE THE DESIGN HAS FROM WHAT ORIGINALLY WAS IN THE PROPOSAL WHICH WAS SHARED WITH THE BOARD BECAUSE OF THE MODULAR CONSTRUCTION THAT WE'RE UTILIZING.
SO THE DESIGN HAS CHANGED A LITTLE BIT. SO WE WOULD LIKE TO KIND OF PRESENT THAT TO THE BOARD AND GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT THE DESIGN OF HOW EVERYTHING IS GOING TO FLOW IN THE BUILDING. AND PART OF OUR DESIGN DEVELOPMENT WILL BE DOING AN EXTENSIVE BUDGET REVIEW AS WELL.
AND AS WE DID ONE IN, IN SCHEMATIC DESIGN, WE'LL DO ANOTHER EXTENSIVE ONE IN BUDGET DEVELOPMENT JUST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS STILL IN PLACE IF WE HAVE TO MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS ON THAT. AND SO SB 155 DOES HAVE CONTINGENCY LANGUAGE BUILT INTO IT BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE OF THE DELAY, THEY KNOW COSTS KEEP INCREASING AND ESCALATION AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
SO WE'LL KIND OF HAVE TO WORK THROUGH WHAT DOES ALL THAT MEAN TO OUR PROJECT.
WE'RE TRYING TO PROBABLY WRAP THAT UP BY THE END OF THIS MONTH, EARLY AUGUST.

THE OUTSTANDING CLASSIFIED CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE SELECTION COMMITTEE HAS NAMED LINDA CASEY DISPENSARY CLERK, COSMETOLOGY DEPARTMENT AS A RECIPIENT OF THE OUTSTANDING CLASSIFIED CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR JUNE 2024.

LINDA IS A FACE. LINDA IS AN ALUMNUS OF CERRITOS COLLEGE AND BEGAN HER JOURNEY AS A COSMETOLOGY STUDENT, ATTENDING HER COSMETOLOGY LICENSE AND WORKING IN A SALON SETTING THAT ENABLED HER TO PROVIDE HER EXPERTISE TO HER COSMETOLOGY STUDENTS.
LINDA IS CARING, IS KIND, AND ALWAYS SHOWS COMPASSION FOR THE STUDENTS AS THEY LEARN HOW TO FORMULATE COLOR, COLOR, COLOR, PRODUCTS NEEDED FOR THE SKINCARE SERVICES, AND SO MUCH MORE.
LINDA IS A GO TO FOR THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY WHAT THEY NEED ASSISTANCE.

DISCUSSION OF BOARD SELF-EVALUATION.THANK YOU, DOCTOR SALAZAR. SO ATTACHED YOU FIND THE BOARD SELF-EVALUATION SURVEY.
ESSENTIALLY CONTAINS THE RESPONSES FROM ALL OF YOU STATING THE BOARD'S PERFORMANCE IN SUPPORTING THE DISTRICT IN ACHIEVING THE GOALS THAT ARE OUTLINED, OUTLINED THERE.
I WANT TO POINT OUT SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE POINTED OUT TO ME.
ITEM NUMBER FIVE. THE IS ALL IN GOVERNMENT RELATIONS WHICH IS THE ONE ITEM WHERE ALL OF YOU FELT STRONGLY ABOUT THE WORK THE COLLECTIVELY THE BOARD DID IN THIS REGARD.
NOT THAT THE OTHER ITEMS ARE BAD, BUT IT'S IT'S NOT NECESSARILY COMMON TO ALL OF YOU, MARK.
THIS IS REFLECTIVE OF THE EFFORTS THAT WE HAVE PLACED IN ORDER TO PUT STUDENT ADVOCACY AT THE LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVEL AS A PRIORITY. HAS PRODUCED SOME POSITIVE RESULTS AND IS A VERY STRONG EXAMPLE OF THE TEAM EFFORT AND COLLABORATION THAT EXISTS BETWEEN ALL OF YOU AND OBVIOUSLY THE ALIGNMENT WITH THE REST OF THE CAMPUS, IN MY OPINION. AND, AND, AND OBVIOUSLY, I WILL SAY THIS FALLS MORE ON MY END AND ON YOURS, BUT I APPRECIATE THE THE HONESTY OF THE ANSWERS HERE IS NUMBER TWO, WHICH IS THE LIST OF DONORS TO CONTINUE TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OR VIABILITY TO DO ANOTHER MAJOR GIFT CAMPAIGN OR SIMILAR.
