[1.02 Pledge of Allegiance] [00:00:22] THANK YOU. WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE AGENDA ORGANIZATION, AND HERE [1.03 Agenda Organization] IT IS RECOMMENDED. WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE ORDER AND OF THE OPEN SECTION, THE OPEN SECTION PART AS FOLLOWING. SO WE ARE GOING TO DO 2.07 FIRST AND 2.01 AND RECOGNITION PART TIME FACULTY NEXT. THEN WE'RE GOING TO DO 2.02, 2.032 PUBLIC HEARING AND 2.06. WE HAVE A HUMAN RESOURCE REPORT UPDATE AND 2.04 AND 2.05. AND SO THAT'S WE ARE GOING TO VOTE FOR THE AGENDA ORGANIZATION. AND IS THERE A MOTION? YEAH. ANY OBJECTION? NO. OKAY. SO MOTION TO. YEAH OKAY. THAT'S RIGHT. YEAH. WE NEED SORRY SORRY SORRY. SO WE HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE SALAZAR AND A SECOND BY. SECOND JOSE. GREEN. OKAY. STUDENT. TRUSTEE. SCOTT. TRUSTEE BIRKEY IS ABSENT. TRUSTEE GREEN. YES. TRUSTEE. LEWIS. YES. TRUSTEE LIU. I TRUSTEE PACHECO IS ABSENT. TRUSTEE PEREZ IS ABSENT. AND TRUSTEE SALAZAR I. THE MOTION PASSES. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE. [1.04 Comments from the Audience] ALL RIGHT. SO WE HAVE A LOT OF CARDS HERE. SO WE ARE GOING TO MAKE SURE THE COMMENTS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO FIVE MINUTES PER SPEAKER AND 20 MINUTES FOR TOPIC IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE SPEAKER. OKAY, SO FIRST ONE IS DANTE GARFIELD ABOUT HEALTH CARE FOR PART TIME FACULTY. GOOD EVENING EVERYBODY. MY NAME IS DANTE GARFIELD. I'M THE ACC CABINET DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABILITY. TODAY, I'LL BE GIVING A LITTLE PRESENTATION ON WHY I BELIEVE THAT PART TIME FACULTY SHOULD HAVE HEALTH CARE. SO A LOT OF PART TIME FACULTY HERE DO HAVE A LOT OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO CAMPUS, AND I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD BE UNRECOGNIZED. A LOT OF THEM, YOU KNOW, GIVE THEIR HARD EARNED EXPENSES THAT THEY MAKE THEMSELVES AND MAKE OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS THAT GO INTO THEIR CLASSROOMS. AND I FULLY BELIEVE THAT THAT'S ONE REASON WHY THEY SHOULD HAVE HEALTH CARE, BECAUSE THAT'S AN ADDED EXPENSE TO THAT. ON TOP OF THAT, I FULLY BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THE LABOR THAT THEY DO. A LOT OF THEM CONTINUOUSLY SACRIFICE A LOT OF THEIR WELL-BEINGS TO WORK AT MULTIPLE CAMPUSES, NOT ONLY HERE. I KNOW SOME WORK HERE. LONG BEACH, YOU KNOW COMPTON, SOME OF THEM WORK AS FAR AS MOORE PARK, WHICH THAT COMMUTE. IF I TELL YOU, YOU KNOW, THAT FREEWAYS. HECK. AND YOU KNOW, I THINK THEIR SACRIFICES SHOULD NOT GO UNRECOGNIZED. AND PART OF THAT INCLUDES ADVOCATING FOR THAT HEALTH CARE. HEALTH CARE IS A RIGHT, NOT JUST A PRIVILEGE. AND IF WE CONTINUE TO FEEL LIKE IT'S A PRIVILEGE AND THAT AFFECTS STUDENTS AS WELL, BECAUSE IF THEY DON'T HAVE THEIR WELL-BEING IN ORDER, THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO GIVE THEIR STUDENTS THE EFFORT. THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO GIVE THEIR STUDENTS THEIR ALL. AND IF WE GIVE, IF THEY'RE ABLE TO GIVE THEIR STUDENTS THEIR ALL, THEY CAN COME HERE. AND NOT ONLY IS IT JUST A JUST A PART TIME ISSUE, IT'S RATHER JUST THEM HAVING THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT THAT THEY WERE GIVEN BY NOT ONLY THIS COUNTRY, BUT THE UNITED DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. IT CONTINUES TO ADVOCATE ADVOCATES FOR HEALTH CARE OF EVERYBODY, AND THAT INCLUDES PEOPLE THAT ARE HARD TIME. THEIR SACRIFICES SHOULD NOT GO UNRECOGNIZED, AND THEIR LABOR SHOULD NOT GO WITHOUT COMPENSATION. THANK YOU. NEXT PERSON, LORI SCHENCK, IS ALSO ABOUT PART TIME HEALTH CARE. THANK YOU. LORI. HELLO. I'VE BEEN AN ADJUNCT LIBRARIAN HERE FOR OVER TEN YEARS. CURRENTLY I WORK AT THREE DIFFERENT COLLEGES IN TWO DIFFERENT DISTRICTS. LUCKILY, SINCE GOLDEN WEST AND ORANGE COAST COLLEGE ARE IN THE SAME DISTRICT, I'VE REACHED THE CAP THERE OF A 67% LOAD. THIS QUALIFIES ME FOR THEIR FULL TIME HEALTH CARE PLAN. THE PLAN IS NOT PAID FOR BY THE DISTRICT. I MERELY QUALIFY TO ENROLL IN IT MYSELF. IT IS A MUCH BETTER POLICY FOR ROUGHLY THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT I WAS PREVIOUSLY PAYING FOR THE CATASTROPHIC POLICY OUT OF POCKET. THOUGH I'M GRATEFUL FOR THE INCREASED COVERAGE, THIS IS STILL A SIGNIFICANT CHUNK TAKEN OUT OF MY PAYCHECK EACH MONTH. I'VE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF CERRITOS COLLEGE'S PART TIME MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM EVERY SINGLE SEMESTER THAT IT'S BEEN OFFERED. [00:05:07] SOME SEMESTERS, I'VE CONSCIOUSLY AGREED TO WORK MORE HOURS THAN I MAY HAVE WANTED IN ORDER TO REACH THE MINIMUM LOAD THAT'S REQUIRED BY THIS PROGRAM. WHEN THE ENHANCED PILOT PROGRAM WAS OFFERED, I WAS ELATED. THIS MEANT THAT I COULD FINALLY FOLLOW UP ON A REFERRAL TO A SPECIALIST THAT I'D BEEN PUTTING OFF, BECAUSE I KNEW IT WOULD ONLY LEAD TO INCREASED MEDICAL BILLS. THE MEDICATION THAT IS MOST EFFECTIVE FOR ME IS NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED BY THE KAISER PLAN. THAT'S THAT I GET THROUGH COAST AND IT'S $100 PER PILL OUT OF POCKET. THE ENHANCED HEALTH CARE PROGRAM MEANT THAT I COULD PURCHASE THIS MEDICATION ON MY OWN, BECAUSE NEARLY ALL OF MY HEALTH CARE PREMIUMS WERE NOW TAKEN CARE OF. I WAS DEVASTATED WHEN IT ONLY LASTED FOR ONE YEAR. IT'S INSANE TO ME THAT I HAVE TO MAKE MEDICAL DECISIONS BASED ON THE BUDGETING, WHIMS, OR THE MERE FACT THAT TWO COLLEGES HAPPEN TO BE WITHIN THE SAME DISTRICT. I URGE YOU TO BRING BACK THE ENHANCED PILOT PROGRAM AND PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE, PART TIME HEALTH CARE COVERAGE. THANK YOU. NEXT ONE IS JOSE HERNANDEZ. IS CCF COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE. HELLO, EVERYONE. BOARD OF TRUSTEES. FACULTY AND ANYONE ELSE WHO'S LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF MY VOICE. MY NAME? I AM AN ACC SENATOR, AND I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE PLAN FOR PART TIME FACULTY. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT, AS YOU CAN SEE, IT'S AFFECTING EVERYONE. IT GOES FROM THE TOP DOWN. IF PART TIME FACULTY ISN'T GETTING THE HELP THAT THEY SHOULD BE GETTING. IT'S GOING TO END UP AFFECTING STUDENTS. BECAUSE IF FACULTY IS GOING TO STOP CARING AND THEY'RE GOING TO START LEAVING TO OTHER PLACES THAT DO OFFER IT, THAT MEANS CLOSURE OF CLASSES, WHICH COULD END UP AFFECTING THE GRADUATION RATES. THERE'S SO MANY THINGS THAT MAY HAPPEN THAT IF WE TAKE A STAND RIGHT NOW AND SUPPORT PART TIME FACULTY AND GETTING HEALTHCARE, I THINK THAT SHOULD BE PRIORITY, BECAUSE WHAT'S AFFECTING THEM IT'S GOING TO MIGHT END UP AFFECTING THE STUDENTS AS WELL. SO WHY TAKE THAT RISK? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, AND I HOPE YOU LISTEN TO EVERYONE WHO'S GOING TO BE SPEAKING ON THIS BEHALF. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. NEXT ONE WILL BE DESIREE MONTENEGRO. GOOD EVENING. RESPECTED CERRITOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES. WE'RE ALL HERE TODAY FOR THE SAME REASON, BECAUSE WE CARE ABOUT THE CERRITOS COLLEGE COMMUNITY. ACCORDING TO THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM DATA MART, 49.59% OF ITS MEMBERS ARE PART TIME FACULTY, AND THIS WAS WHAT WAS REPORTED IN FALL OF 2022. THAT IS HALF OF OUR FACULTY COMMUNITY, WHICH IS MORE LIKELY A HIGHER PERCENTAGE TODAY. THIS LEADS ME TO THE CORE OF MY COMMENT. LET'S CONTINUE TO DEVOTE AND CONTRIBUTE WHAT IS A BASIC NECESSITY FOR OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY MEMBERS? BY NEGOTIATING IN GOOD FAITH WITH CCF REGARDING PART TIME FACULTY HEALTH CARE? BECAUSE DOING ANYTHING ELSE IS ANTITHETICAL TO WHAT HAS TAKEN SO MANY YEARS TO ESTABLISH AS A HEART OF CERRITOS COLLEGE COMMUNITY COLLECTIVELY. TODAY, I'LL HIGHLIGHT A FEW FACTORS EMPHASIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF NEGOTIATING WITH CCF REGARDING PART TIME FACULTY HEALTH CARE IN GOOD FAITH. NUMBER ONE, IT SHOWS INSTITUTIONAL, EQUITABLE PRACTICE. NUMBER TWO, IT'S PRAGMATIC AND ESSENTIAL. NUMBER THREE, IT SHOWS THAT WE ARE FORWARD THINKING AND EARLY ADOPTERS TO GOOD PRACTICE AND POLICY. NOW TO MY FIRST POINT. IT SHOWS INSTITUTIONAL EQUITABLE PRACTICE. ACCORDING TO THE DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND JUSTICE RESOURCE CENTER DEI. THERE ARE SIX KEY FACTORS AND ACTIONS RECOMMENDED FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS TO IMPLEMENT EQUITABLE PRACTICES, INCLUDING COORDINATED SUPPORT STRUCTURES, ALIGNING POLICIES WITH DEI GOALS. EQUITABLE HIRING PRACTICES. OTHER STRATEGIES INCLUDING IMPROVING STUDENT SUCCESS, REDESIGNING LEARNING, AND PROMOTING AN INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT. HEALTH CARE FOR ALL FACULTY IS AN EQUITABLE PRACTICE. AS A RESULT, WE NEED TO FOCUS ON MAINTAINING OUR PROGRESS IN THIS AREA RATHER THAN REGRESSING THROUGH COMPLACENCY. NOW TO MY SECOND POINT. IT'S PRAGMATIC AND ESSENTIAL DISTRICTS THAT THAT THAT SUBMIT REIMBURSEMENT WILL RECEIVE 100% SO LONG AS WE SUBMIT AND FOLLOW THE SIMPLE CRITERIA. IT'S SIMPLE. THE MONEY IS THERE. WHAT IS STOPPING US FROM WALKING DOWN THIS OBVIOUS PATH? HEALTH CARE FOR ALL FACULTY IS ESSENTIAL, AND THE DECISION TO SUPPORT THIS REFLECTS OUR INTENTION AND INTUITIVENESS AS A HIGHER [00:10:07] EDUCATION INSTITUTION. NOW TO MY THIRD POINT. IT SHOWS THAT WE ARE FORWARD THINKING AND EARLY ADOPTERS TO BEST PRACTICE AND POLICY. POLICY HAS RESPONDED TO THE NEED FOR HEALTH CARE BY PART TIME FACULTY AT A STATE LEVEL, AND IT IS NOW TIME FOR US TO DO THE SAME LOCALLY. OTHER COLLEGES HAVE SUBMITTED AND RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT EVEN AT 100%. WILL WE BE THE LAST OR THE ONE OF THE FIRST IN THE STATE TO SAY OUT LOUD THAT WE VALUE ALL FACULTY? WILL WE LEAD OR WILL WE BE FOLLOWERS IN WHAT IS AN INEVITABLY IN MOTION? AND AS I END MY COMMENT TODAY, AGAIN, I URGE YOU ALL RESPECTED CERRITOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEMBERS. WE ARE ALL PRESENT FOR THE SAME REASON BECAUSE WE CARE ABOUT CERRITOS COLLEGE COMMUNITY AND ITS MEMBERS AND ALL OF ITS FACULTY, AND WE DON'T WANT TO IGNORE OVER HALF OF OUR FACULTY CONTINUING TO VOTE TO DEVOTE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE BASIC NECESSITY OF PART TIME FACULTY. HEALTH CARE IS CRUCIAL FOR OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AND SO I URGE YOU ALL TO CONTINUE NEGOTIATING IN GOOD FAITH WITH CCF REGARDING THIS MATTER, BECAUSE DOING ANYTHING ELSE WOULD BE ANTITHETICAL TO WHAT HAS TAKEN SO MANY YEARS TO ESTABLISH AS A HEART OF CERRITOS COLLEGE COMMUNITY COLLECTIVELY. TODAY, I HIGHLIGHTED A FEW FACTORS THAT EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF NEGOTIATING WITH CCF REGARDING PART TIME FACULTY HEALTH CARE IN GOOD FAITH, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THAT IT SHOWS INSTITUTIONAL, EQUITABLE PRACTICE. IT IS PRACTICAL, IT IS ESSENTIAL, AND IT COMMUNICATES THAT THE COLLEGE IS FORWARD THINKING AND EARLY ADOPTERS TO GOOD PRACTICE AND POLICY. I LEAVE YOU TO PONDER THIS FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION DO WE WANT TO BE REMEMBERED AS AN OBSTACLE IN THIS MOVEMENT FOR FACULTY EQUITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION WITHIN THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM, OR DO WE WANT TO BE CONSIDERED CHAMPIONS, LEADING, AS WE HAVE BEEN DOING IN SO MANY OTHER AREAS? THANK YOU. NEXT WILL BE MARIANNE JOSEPH. OH, SORRY. MARIANA. HI. GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS MARIAM YUSUF, AND I'VE BEEN A PART TIME FACULTY MEMBER AT CERRITOS COLLEGE SINCE 2015. AND I'M HERE TO ASK YOU TO CONSIDER PROVIDING HEALTH CARE COVERAGE FOR PART TIME FACULTY. I AM IN MANY WAYS LUCKIER THAN MOST OF MY PART TIME COLLEAGUES, BECAUSE I AM ABLE TO RECEIVE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE FROM THE OTHER CAMPUS WHERE I TEACH. AND THAT'S NOT THE CASE FOR MOST OF US. WHAT THAT MEANS FOR ME PERSONALLY, THOUGH, IS THAT IF THERE IS EVER A SCHEDULING CONFLICT BETWEEN CERRITOS COLLEGE AND MY OTHER CAMPUS, I WILL HAVE TO PRIORITIZE MY HEALTH CARE. AND THAT MEANS CHOOSING THE OTHER CAMPUS OVER CERRITOS AND THAT'S REALLY UNFORTUNATE. I LOVE TEACHING AT CERRITOS. I'VE BEEN HERE FOR A MINUTE NOW AND I REALLY ENJOY IT. I'M INVESTED IN THE WELL-BEING OF MY STUDENTS, AND I CARE REALLY DEEPLY ABOUT THIS CAMPUS. SO IT WOULD JUST BE REALLY UNFORTUNATE IF THAT DECISION CAME TO BE. AND WHEN PART TIME FACULTY DON'T HAVE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE, WE HAVE TO MAKE A LOT OF DIFFICULT DECISIONS ABOUT WHERE TO PUT OUR TIME AND OUR ENERGY TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES AND TO TAKE CARE OF OUR FAMILIES. CERRITOS CAN OFFER A COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE TO PART TIME FACULTY AT NO COST, RIGHT, TO GET IT FULLY REIMBURSED. SO IT'S KIND OF A NO BRAINER. AND IN DOING SO, THEY CAN MAKE SURE THAT THEY KEEP GOOD TEACHERS LIKE ME. INVESTED IN THIS CAMPUS. THANK YOU SO MUCH. NEXT PERSON. LINDSEY LEFEBVRE. SAME TOPIC. PART TIME HEALTH CARE. HI. GOOD EVENING. I KNOW IT'S BEEN A WHILE. I STILL WORK HERE. AND IT'S BEEN A WHILE. YOU KNOW, I WANTED TO ECHO SOMETHING MIRIAM SAID, BECAUSE I HAVE NOT HAD TO STRUGGLE FOR HEALTH CARE AS A PART TIME FACULTY MEMBER BECAUSE I'M MARRIED. THAT SEEMS REALLY A LOT TO ASK OF FOLKS, YOU KNOW, TO, LIKE, SHACK UP AND GET MARRIED, YOU KNOW, LIKE, I MEAN, BECAUSE OF OPTIONS AND YOUR EDUCATION. I FEEL LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE OPTIONS. SO I FEEL, ALTHOUGH I'M REALLY LUCKY, THIS IS LIKE A REALLY CRITICAL MOMENT. THE STATE HAS THE MONEY. I DIDN'T THINK THAT THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN. BUT NOW HERE WE ARE. AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LOST. [00:15:02] WE CAN BE ON THE FOREFRONT OF THIS. OTHER SCHOOLS HAVE DONE IT. WE CAN DO IT TOO. YOU'VE BEEN DOING IT. WE CAN DO IT MORE. WE CAN DO IT BETTER. BECAUSE I KNOW THE EMPLOYEES THAT WORK HERE. PRETTY AWESOME. SO HELP US KEEP PART TIME FACULTY INVESTED IN THIS CAMPUS AND NOT SHACKING UP AND REASONABLY FOR HEALTH CARE. ALL RIGHT. GLEN JOHNSON, SAME TOPIC. PART TIME HEALTH CARE. HI. GOOD EVENING. BOARD. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. WE REALLY DO APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DO FOR EVERYONE LINKED TO CERRITOS. MY COMMENT IS OF A FINANCIAL ONE. I WAS A GRADUATE, AM A GRADUATE OF SERVICE COLLEGE BACK IN 19 1983 AND LOVED EVERY MOMENT THAT I THAT I WAS HERE. I WAS VERY HONORED AND BLESSED AND THANKFUL THAT ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO, I WAS ASKED TO COME ON BOARD AND TEACH A COURSE IN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY. HEALTH CARE I TOOK FOR GRANTED. FOR 34 YEARS I TAUGHT AT A CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE WITH FULL BENEFITS. AND THEN COVID HIT AND COVID KNOCKED A LOT OF US ON OUR REAR ENDS. I WAS REPLACED AS A FULL TIME EMPLOYEE WITH THREE PART TIME EMPLOYEES, SO THAT THAT COLLEGE WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY BENEFITS. SO AGAIN, VERY BLESSED THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET A JOB HERE. BUT TO MAKE ENDS MEET WHEN IT COMES TO HEALTH CARE, I HAD TO JOIN THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, WHICH OF COURSE WE KNOW IS OBAMACARE. SO TO SUPPLEMENT THE INCOME THAT I MAKE HERE, I'M A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER FOR THE WHITTIER UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT. MY PAYMENT A MONTH JUST FOR THE MEDICAL IS $333.53 A MONTH. DELTA DENTAL, $55 A MONTH. AND OF COURSE, THAT DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE PRESCRIPTIONS THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR. I HAVE TO WORK FOUR AND A HALF DAYS TEACHING AS A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TO PAY FOR THAT AMOUNT. THAT'S A WEEK WORTH OF WORK. I REALLY ASK YOU TO EARNESTLY LOOK INTO THIS FOR US. VOTE FOR US. HELP US. KEEP US WHERE WE ARE. I'VE ONLY BEEN HERE. AS MARIAM SAID, SHE'S BEEN HERE FOR A MINUTE. I'VE BEEN HERE FOR A SECOND. I LOVE IT HERE AND I WOULD NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE. BUT WE DO NEED THE HELP DESPERATELY. SO PLEASE HELP US. ALL RIGHT. BOBBY SMART, SAME TOPIC. PART TIME HEALTH CARE. HELLO. THERE'S LOTS OF NEW FACES HERE SINCE I'VE LAST HAD TO DO THIS. SO HI. TO THOSE WHO KNOW ME, I HAVE BEEN HERE. BOBBY LEE SMART, BY THE WAY. I'VE BEEN AN ADJUNCT IN THE SOCIAL DEPARTMENT. I'M WRAPPING UP MY NINTH YEAR HERE. I'VE PRETTY MUCH TAUGHT A FULL LOAD ALMOST EVERY SEMESTER THAT I'VE BEEN ON THIS CAMPUS. BUT I DON'T HAVE HEALTH CARE HERE. I GET IT IN LA IF I HAVE CLASSES, BUT I JUST LOST IT LAST MONTH BECAUSE I LOST THE CLASS. RIGHT. SO NOW LET'S HOPE I DON'T GET SICK WHILE I'M HERE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE HEALTH CARE RIGHT NOW. I'M BETWEEN COVERAGE, RIGHT? AND I DEFINITELY CAN'T AFFORD IT. BUT I DON'T JUST WANT TO TALK ABOUT ME. I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT I TALK TO A LOT OF STUDENTS WHO WANT TO TEACH. THEY'RE LIKE, I WANT TO BE A COMMUNITY COLLEGE TEACHER. I WANT TO DO WHAT YOU DO. AND I'M LIKE, NO, YOU DON'T, BECAUSE I DON'T MAKE SHIT. AND I HAVE TO WORK ON MULTIPLE CAMPUSES TO MAKE ENDS MEET. AND I DON'T HAVE HEALTH CARE. AND MY RETIREMENT IS A JOKE. YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THIS. I COULD GO TO STARBUCKS AND GET HEALTH CARE. I CAN GO TO TARGET AND GET HEALTH CARE. WHY AM I TEACHING COLLEGE? TELLING MY STUDENTS THAT THIS IS THE ROUTE TO SUCCESS, TO A BETTER LIFE WHEN IT'S LED ME INTO POVERTY. SO I WOULD REALLY LIKE US TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT HEALTH CARE, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THIS IS ONE LESS REASON FOR ME TO TELL STUDENTS TO AVOID THIS LINE OF WORK, BECAUSE I KNOW YOU WANT THEM TO COME BACK. I'VE GOT ONE. HE GRADUATED FROM HERE IN 2016. I HAVE BEEN HIS LETTER OF REC FOR HIS BACHELOR'S DEGREE, WHERE HE HELPED START AND FOUND UNDERGROUND SCHOLARS AT UC RIVERSIDE. I WAS HIS LETTER OF REC FOR COLUMBIA. I'M NOW HIS LETTER OF REC AS HE APPLIES TO PHD PROGRAMS, AND HE WANTS TO COME BACK AND TEACH. AND I'VE HAD TO TELL HIM, DO NOT LOCK YOURSELF INTO EDUCATION BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A WAY OUT IF YOU CAN'T LAND THAT FULL TIME JOB BECAUSE 70% OF US ARE TENURED, ARE NOT TENURED, EXCUSE ME, ONLY 30% OF FACULTY ARE TENURED. THAT IS A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE WHO ARE MAKING DECENT MONEY TO DO THIS WORK AND HAVE HEALTH CARE. SO IF THE STATE IS GOING TO REIMBURSE YOU, I DON'T SEE WHY WE'RE NOT DOING THIS. PLEASE GIVE US THE HEALTH CARE THAT WE DESERVE BECAUSE WE ARE PROFESSIONALS. [00:20:04] PROFESSIONALS. DAY NEXT APRIL. BRACAMONTES. SAME TOPIC. PART TIME HEALTH CARE. APRIL. I WILL HOLD YOUR SIGN FOR YOU. GREAT. THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, TRUSTEES AND ADMINISTRATORS. I AM HERE TONIGHT TO URGE THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE TO OUR PART TIME FACULTY. AS A CANCER SURVIVOR, I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT HEALTH CARE, SPECIFICALLY QUALITY HEALTH CARE, IS. I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER AFTER I WAS FULL TIME AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. IN THE ALMOST FIVE YEARS SINCE MY INITIAL DIAGNOSIS, I'VE HAD TO WORRY ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS MEDICAL MENOPAUSE. SURGICAL RECONSTRUCTION, A PANDEMIC, TEACHING ONLINE, AND OF COURSE, MY STUDENTS. BUT I'VE NOT HAD TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING HEALTH CARE. I'VE BEEN ABLE TO WALK INTO ALL OF MY DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IF I CAN AFFORD MY TREATMENTS. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET SECOND OPINIONS. I'VE BEEN ABLE TO BUILD A CARE TEAM THAT I TRUST, AND ALL OF THIS HAS MADE MY RECOVERY JUST A LITTLE BIT EASIER. MANY OF MY PART TIME COLLEAGUES DON'T HAVE THAT LUXURY. THEY AREN'T ABLE TO ACCESS PREVENTATIVE CARE LIKE MAMMOGRAMS TO DETECT POTENTIAL CANCER EARLY. AB 190 HAS MADE IT EASY FOR DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE FOR OUR ELIGIBLE PART TIME FACULTY. THE STATE HAS MADE A COMMITMENT TO FUNDING, AND IF CERRITOS COLLEGE CHOOSES TO FULLY IMPLEMENT THE TENETS OF AB 190, YOU WILL BE FULLY REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF INSURANCE PREMIUMS FOR THOSE ELIGIBLE PART TIME FACULTY. IN FACT, ENACTING AB 190 WOULD BE CHEAPER FOR THE DISTRICT OVERALL, AND IT WOULD MEAN THE CHANCE TO DEMONSTRATE CARE FOR OUR MOST VULNERABLE FACULTY MEMBERS. AGAIN, I URGE THE BOARD TO FULLY IMPLEMENT THE TENETS OF AB 190 AND PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE FOR OUR PART TIME COLLEAGUES. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. OKAY. YOU WANT TO READ THE REST? OKAY. OKAY. SO I HAVE A FEW. SORRY. JUST ONE MOMENT. I HAVE A FEW PUBLIC COMMENTS THAT WERE SUBMITTED ONLINE FROM THE LAST BOARD MEETING. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD SOME TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, SO I'LL GO AHEAD AND READ THOSE COMMENTS WITH THE TIME THAT WE HAVE REMAINING. ALL OF THEM ARE THE SAME TOPIC REGARDING HEALTH CARE. THE FIRST COMMENT IS FROM JULIE SHIELDS. MY NAME IS DOCTOR JULIE SHIELDS. I'VE BEEN AN ADJUNCT FACULTY MEMBER IN PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY AT CERRITOS COLLEGE FOR SIX YEARS. I'VE BEEN TEACHING A FULL ADJUNCT LOAD FOR MOST OF THAT TIME. UNTIL THIS SEMESTER, I HAD ALSO BEEN AN ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR AT ANOTHER DISTRICT, ALSO TEACHING A FULL ADJUNCT LOAD. I HAVE STARTED A TEMPORARY ONE YEAR FULL TIME POSITION AND HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR ONLY. I DID NOT PREVIOUSLY QUALIFY FOR ANY EMPLOYER SPONSORED HEALTH INSURANCE AND HAD TO PURCHASE AN INDEPENDENT PLAN FOR MYSELF. THE DISTRICT DID OFFER ME HEALTH CARE REIMBURSEMENT AND I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO RECEIVE IT AND I THANK YOU. BUT TO PUT PUT TO PUT THAT INTO PERSPECTIVE, THAT $1,100 STIPEND DID NOT COVER ONE OF MY MONTHLY HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS. SOME QUICK MATH WILL TELL YOU I SPENT A LARGE PORTION OF MY SALARY ON HEALTH CARE. I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ADJUNCT FACULTY MEMBER IN THAT BOAT, AND TO HAVE THE DISTRICT PROVIDE HEALTH INSURANCE WOULD BE A LIFELINE. ADJUNCT FACULTY TEACH A MAJORITY OF THE COURSES FOR THIS COLLEGE AND THEREFORE GENERATE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF INCOME. DEVALUING ADJUNCT FACULTY DEVALUES THE WORK THEY DO AND DOES NOT REFLECT WELL ON THE COLLEGE. THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOUND VALUE IN ADJUNCT FACULTY AND PROVIDED $200 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR ADJUNCT FACULTY HEALTH INSURANCE, AT NO COST TO THE DISTRICT. RESPECTFULLY, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I'M ASKING YOU TO RECOGNIZE THE VALUE OF YOUR ADJUNCT FACULTY, TAKE ACTION TO RETAIN THEM, AND MAKE THE DECISION TO PROVIDE THEM WITH HEALTH INSURANCE. THE NEXT COMMENT IS FROM LISA BLAD. HELLO, MY NAME IS LISA BLAD. I'VE WORKED AT CERRITOS OVER NINE YEARS. I'M LEAVING THIS COMMENT TO ADVOCATE FOR YOU TO BARGAIN IN GOOD FAITH WITH CCF IN PARTICULAR HEALTH CARE COVERAGE FOR PART TIME FACULTY. RIGHT NOW, YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE EQUITY AMONG FACULTY AND CLOSE THE GAP OF HEALTH CARE ACCESS FOR YOUR PART TIME FACULTY. IN MY NINE YEARS WORKING HERE, ONLY FULL TIME FACULTY HAVE HAD ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE BENEFITS. NOW, WITH THE PASSAGE OF AB ONE, 90 PART TIME FACULTY WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN CALPERS HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE DISTRICT FOR FACULTY WORKING AT LEAST 40% LOAD. PART TIME FACULTY ARE FULL TIME HUMANS. HAVING HEALTHY FACULTY IS ESSENTIAL TO RUNNING A PRODUCTIVE CAMPUS AND TO PROVIDE THE BEST EDUCATION FOR OUR STUDENTS. [00:25:06] THE HARD WORKING CERRITOS COLLEGE PART TIME FACULTY DESERVE TO KNOW THAT IF THEY GET HURT OR SICK, THEY TOO WILL HAVE THE COVERAGE TO BECOME HEALTHY AGAIN AND GO BACK TO WORK AT THEIR FULLEST CAPACITY. PASSING A PART TIME HEALTH CARE RESOLUTION WOULD SHOW ALL FACULTY THAT CERRITOS COLLEGE SUPPORTS US IN OUR WORK. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP. THE NEXT COMMENT IS FROM CHRISTIAN TEETER. I'M A PART TIME INSTRUCTOR IN THE BUSINESS DEPARTMENT. I'M CALLING TO VOICE MY SUPPORT FOR PART TIME FACULTY HEALTH CARE COVERAGE. FACULTY DESERVE TO KNOW THAT IF THEY GET HURT OR SICK, THEY HAVE THE COVERAGE TO GET HEALTHY AGAIN. IN ORDER TO BE PRODUCTIVE INSTRUCTORS AND WORK AT THEIR FULLEST CAPACITY. PASSING A PART TIME HEALTH CARE RESOLUTION WOULD SHOW ALL FACULTY THAT CERRITOS COLLEGE SUPPORTS US IN OUR WORK. THANK YOU. NEXT COMMENT FROM TANIA PENN. I'M A PART TIME COUNSELOR AND THE FINANCIAL AID DEPARTMENT. I'M CALLING TO VOICE MY SUPPORT FOR PART TIME FACULTY HEALTH CARE COVERAGE. FACULTY DESERVE TO KNOW THAT IF THEY GET HURT OR SICK, THEY HAVE THE COVERAGE TO GET HEALTHY AGAIN IN ORDER TO BE PRODUCTIVE INSTRUCTORS AND WORK AT THEIR FULLEST CAPACITY. NEXT COMMENT THOMAS TAYLOR. I'VE WORKED IN THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT SINCE SPRING 2010. I'VE BEEN A CERRITOS RESIDENT SINCE 2002. I'M ASKING YOU TO BARGAIN IN GOOD FAITH WITH CCF REGARDING HEALTH CARE COVERAGE FOR PART TIME FACULTY. PLEASE TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CLOSE THE GAP OF HEALTH CARE ACCESS FOR YOUR PART TIME FACULTY AND MY NEARLY 14 YEARS OF SERVICE TO CERRITOS COLLEGE AS A PART TIMER, I'VE NEVER HAD ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE WITH THE PASSAGE OF AB 190. PART TIMERS NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN CALPERS HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE DISTRICT. FOR FACULTY LIKE ME, WHO HAVE AT LEAST A 40% WORKLOAD, PART TIME FACULTY ARE FULL TIME PEOPLE. HEALTHY FACULTY ARE PRODUCTIVE FACULTY TO KEEP OUR CAMPUS RUNNING OPTIMALLY AND PROVIDE THE BEST EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS, PLEASE PASS THE PART TIME HEALTH CARE RESOLUTION. THE NEXT ONE IS FROM OLIVIA HINTON. I'M A PART TIME INSTRUCTOR IN THE EARTH SCIENCE DEPARTMENT AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. I WENT TO CERRITOS AS A COLLEGE STUDENT AND WORKED IN VARIOUS POSITIONS, FROM TUTOR TO MY CURRENT POSITION AS PART TIME INSTRUCTOR AND FACULTY SENATOR. OVER THE COURSE OF 11 YEARS, I TEACH IN FOUR DISTRICTS AND AS OF NOW, ONLY ONE OF THEM, FULLERTON, HAS A PROGRAM IN PLACE FOR PART TIME FACULTY. HEALTH CARE. I HAVE SEVERE MEDICAL ISSUES. I SEE SPECIALISTS AND GET OCCASIONAL SURGERIES FOR THESE MEDICAL NEEDS. ADD UP PREMIUMS ARE HIGH AND TAKE UP A LARGE PORTION OF MY INCOME AS A PART TIME INSTRUCTOR. PROVIDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR PREMIUMS THAT I'M ALREADY PAYING FOR WOULD BE EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL TO ME AND TO THOSE IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS. PLEASE CONSIDER MEETING AND BARGAINING IN GOOD FAITH WITH CCF SO PART TIME FACULTY CAN HAVE ACCESS TO THIS BASIC NEED THAT CLASSIFIED AND FULL TIME FACULTY HAVE. I HAVE ONE LAST COMMENT. MY NAME IS ROSA CARRILLO. I'M A FULL TIME COUNSELOR IN GENERAL COUNSELING. I'M VERY THANKFUL THAT IN MY 11 YEARS WORKING HERE, I'VE HAD ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE BENEFITS. BEFORE COMING HERE, I WORKED AS A PART TIME COUNSELOR FOR FIVE YEARS. I KNOW THE CHALLENGES OF NOT HAVING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE INSURANCE. I REMEMBER DISTINCTLY HAVING TO GO WITHOUT SEEING A DOCTOR OR DENTIST OR OPHTHALMOLOGIST BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD AN OFFICE VISIT. I REMEMBER HAVING TO PURCHASE READING GLASSES AT THE 99 CENT STORE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I COULD AFFORD. THIS AFFECTED MY WORK GREATLY, AND I COULDN'T GIVE STUDENTS MY FULL FOCUS AND ATTENTION BECAUSE I WAS IN PAIN, OR I HAD A TOOTHACHE OR I COULDN'T SEE CORRECTLY WITH THE PASSAGE OF AB 190. PART TIME FACULTY NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN CALPERS HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE DISTRICT FOR FACULTY WORKING AT LEAST A 40% LOAD. PART TIME FACULTY ARE FULL TIME HUMANS. HAVING FACULTY IS ESSENTIAL TO RUNNING A PRODUCTIVE CAMPUS AND TO PROVIDE THE BEST EDUCATION FOR OUR STUDENTS. I URGE YOU TO SUPPORT OUR PART TIME FACULTY. OKAY. THANK YOU. SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO REPORT AND COMMENTS FROM THE CONSTITUENT GROUP FIRST. [1.05 Reports and Comments from Constituent Groups] DENNIS FALCON, FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT LIU. HONORED BOARD MEMBERS, SUPERINTENDENT, PRESIDENT FIERRO, MY COLLEAGUES, STAFF, STUDENTS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. THANK YOU FOR COMING AND JOINING US TONIGHT. I DID PREPARE A REPORT, LIKE, NORMALLY TO GIVE YOU SOME UPDATES ON THINGS THAT ARE OCCURRING WITHIN THE FACULTY SENATE. AFFECTING FACULTY, OF COURSE. BUT AS BEFORE, AFTER LISTENING TO MY COLLEAGUES FROM THE CCF AND TO ALL OF THEIR COMMENTS AND KNOWING SO MANY OF THEM PERSONALLY AND FOR SO LONG, ALL I CAN SAY IS I COMPLETELY TRUST AND SUPPORT MY [00:30:01] COLLEAGUES WHO WORK WITH THE CCF, FROM THEIR PRESIDENT DOWN TO THEIR VERY NEWEST MEMBER AND FUTURE RECRUITS AS MEMBERS OF THE BARGAINING UNIT. AND I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT IT'S REALLY HARD TO FOLLOW THE THINGS THAT THEY'VE SAID, THINGS THAT THEY'VE SHARED, SO PERSONAL. AND I'M NOT GOING TO FOLLOW IT. I'M GOING TO GET BEHIND IT, BUT 100%. AND I WILL DO EVERYTHING THAT I CAN IN MY CAPACITY, HELPING TO REPRESENT FACULTY WHEN IT COMES TO ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL MATTERS, AND TO ADVISE THE DISTRICT AND TO SUPPORT THE WORK THAT THE CCF DOES TO NEGOTIATE AND FIGHT FOR THE WORKING CONDITIONS AND THE COMPENSATION OF MY COLLEAGUES. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. CCF. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. KATHLEEN WAYNE, CCF PRESIDENT. GOOD EVENING. GOOD EVENING TRUSTEES. THANK YOU FOR HEARING OUR PART TIME COLLEAGUES STRUGGLES WITH OUR CURRENT HEALTHCARE REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM. THE LIFE OF A PART TIME FACULTY IS ONE THAT IS FRAUGHT WITH UNCERTAINTY. THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE TO HOPE EACH TERM TO BE ASSIGNED 40% WORKLOAD, AND THEN HOPE AGAIN TO RECEIVE SOME SORT OF REIMBURSEMENT FOR HEALTH CARE RELATED COSTS. HEALTH CARE IS ALSO SOMETHING THAT IS ALWAYS ON THE MINDS OF OUR PART TIME COLLEAGUES, BUT THEY CAN'T ALWAYS BE HERE TO DISCUSS IT. THEY'RE BUSY TEACHING OR WORKING EXTRA GIGS JUST TO MAKE ENDS MEET. WE TEXTED OVER 600 PART TIME FACULTY. MOST OF THE REPLY IS I CAN'T. I AM WORKING TONIGHT FULLY ENACTING AB 190 WILL ALLOW MANY OF OUR PART TIME COLLEAGUES TO BREATHE A LITTLE EASY, EASIER TO AND SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS MORE BECAUSE WE KNOW FACULTY WORKING CONDITIONS ARE STUDENTS LEARNING CONDITIONS. WHEN PART TIME FACULTY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE, THEY OFTEN LEAVE THE PROFESSION, WHICH IS DEVASTATING TO STUDENT SUCCESS I WAS RECENTLY SPEAKING WITH A COLLEAGUE WHO LEFT TEACHING PART TIME TO PURSUE A FULL TIME JOB FOR THE BENEFITS. THEY INDICATED THAT HAD HAVING ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE HAVE BEEN AN OPTION, THEY WOULD HAVE REMAINED IN THE TEACHING PROFESSION. MY COLLEAGUE SHARED THAT IT WAS ONE THING TO LIVE ABOUT HEALTH INSURANCE FOR THEMSELVES, BUT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO LIVE WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE FOR THEIR FAMILY. HEALTH CARE IS A GAME CHANGER. SINCE CERRITOS COLLEGE IMPLEMENTED OUR HEALTH CARE REIMBURSEMENT PROCESS, WE HAVE SEEN THE NUMBERS OF APPLICANTS GROW FROM ONE TO OVER 100 EACH YEAR. LAST SPRING, WE HAD 100 ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS, BUT WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO REIMBURSE 77 BECAUSE THE POOL WAS SIMPLY JUST EXHAUSTED. THIS MEANT THAT 23. SORRY. THIS MEANT THAT 23 OF OUR PART TIME FACULTY WENT WITHOUT SUPPORT FOR THEIR HEALTH CARE. OUR PART TIME FACULTY MAKE HUGE SACRIFICES JUST TO STAY IN THIS PROFESSION. PROVIDING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE WOULD MEAN ONE LESS SACRIFICE. REMEMBER WHEN DOCTOR FIERRO ASKED ME HOW I WAS DOING? I SAID, HONESTLY, I AM A MESS PERSONALLY. EVEN WITH TOP NOTCH HEALTH CARE AND AFFORDABLE THERAPY SESSIONS, LIFE IS STILL A STRUGGLE. FACULTY ARE DEALING WITH AGING PARENTS, RAISING CHILDREN AND BARELY TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH. IMAGINE DEALING WITH ALL THIS WITHOUT ACCESS TO EMPLOYEE EMPLOYER PROVIDED HEALTH INSURANCE. THE CHANCE TO GIVE PART TIME FACULTY COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH INSURANCE IS RIGHT HERE. IT'S TIME WE STEP UP AND MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW. CSA PRESIDENT ERLINDA IS NOT HERE, SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO OPEN SECTION AGENDA. [2.07 Constituent Group Presentation (Requested by Dr. Lynn Wang, CCFF President): AB 190-Part-Time Faculty Health Insurance Program Overview] AND BASED ON THE UPDATE ORDER. SO FIRST WE'RE GOING TO DO 2.07 CONSTITUENT GROUP PRESENTATION. AND IS AB 190 PART TIME FACULTY HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM OVERVIEW. DOCTOR. ANDREA, CAN I JUST POINT IT OVER HERE? GREAT. THANK YOU. YOU'RE GOOD. THANK YOU. DENNIS. ALL RIGHT, SO FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU, DOCTOR FIERRO AND THE BOARD FOR ALLOWING US TO PRESENT ON THIS OVERVIEW OF PART TIME HEALTH CARE. [00:35:07] SO I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION. PART TIME FACULTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE 1996. IT WAS JUST NOT FUNDED THE SAME WAY AS IT'S FUNDED NOW STARTING SEPTEMBER OF 2022, ASSEMBLY BILL 190 PASSED WITH AB 190. THE STATE CHANGED ITS ALLOCATION FROM $490,000 IN ITS BUDGET FOR PART TIME HEALTHCARE TO $2 MILLION ANNUALLY, AND THIS FUNDING IS ONGOING. HOWEVER, THIS FUNDING DOESN'T COVER THE COST OF VISION AND OR DENTAL INSURANCE AND THE INTENT OF THIS LEGISLATION IS TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE HEALTH INSURANCE FOR PART TIME FACULTY AND THEIR DEPENDENTS UNDER AB 190. IT ALSO ESTABLISHED THE ELIGIBILITY FOR THOSE WHO WILL QUALIFY I. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THIS SLIDE, PART TIME FACULTY ARE DEFINED AS THOSE WHO HAVE AN ASSIGNMENT EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN 40% OF A FULL TIME ASSIGNMENT, AND IT COVERS, QUOTE UNQUOTE, FREEWAY FLIERS, OR WHAT WE REFER TO AS MULTI-DISTRICT PART TIME FACULTY WITH THE TOTAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENT OF 40% OR MORE IF THEY WORK AT MULTIPLE COLLEGES. A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY AND JUST NUMBERS IN TERMS OF HOW MANY FOLKS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE PART TIME HEALTH CARE PROGRAM HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. WE REACHED A CBA AGREEMENT WITH THE DISTRICT FOR OUR 2018 2021 CBA. AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, THE FIRST YEAR WE IMPLEMENTED THIS, WE HAVE ONE PARTICIPANT, AND AT THE TIME, THE REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNT WAS $1,000 PER SEMESTER, ONE FOR FALL, ONE FOR SPRING, AND THE POOL THAT WAS ESTABLISHED WAS $100,000, AND THIS LASTED TWO YEARS. IN OUR LAST ROUND OF CBA NEGOTIATIONS, WHICH IS OUR 2124 CBA NEGOTIATIONS, WE WERE ABLE TO INCREASE THAT AMOUNT TO $1,100 PER SEMESTER, AND WE INCREASED THE POOL FROM 100,000 TO 137,000. IN TERMS OF THE AMOUNT OF DOLLARS THAT THE DISTRICT RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT ON. AS YOU CAN SEE AT THE TIME, BACK IN 2020 2021, THE DISTRICT ONLY RECEIVED $0.02 PER DOLLAR THAT WAS SPENT ON PART TIME HEALTH CARE, SO $0.02 ON THE DOLLAR. AND FOR THAT YEAR, OVER A 100 PART TIME FACULTY PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM. AGAIN THE FOLLOWING YEAR. YOU SEE THE REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNT FROM THE STATE TO THE DISTRICT, WHICH IS ONLY 1.6 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR. AND DURING THAT YEAR WE HAD 71 PARTICIPANTS MOVING MOVING FORWARD TO THIS LAST YEAR BECAUSE OF THE PASSAGE OF AB 190. THAT HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2022. THAT ALLOWS DCF TO BARGAIN WITH THE DISTRICT, AND WE WERE ABLE TO SIGN AN MOU THAT ENACTED A PILOT REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM. AND AS YOU CAN SEE RIGHT HERE, WE WERE ABLE TO INCREASE THE REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNT FROM 1100 TO $3300 PER SEMESTER. AND WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO AT LEAST MORE THAN DOUBLE THE POOL TO $300,000. BECAUSE OF THAT, THE THE DISTRICT RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT $0.50 ON THE DOLLAR THAT WAS SPENT ON PART TIME HEALTH CARE. AS I MENTIONED EARLIER IN MY REPORT, WE HAD 100 FACULTY WHO MET ELIGIBILITY AND THE REQUIREMENTS, AND THEY SUBMITTED EVERYTHING ON TIME. 23 OF THEM WERE NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE ANY REIMBURSEMENT AT ALL BECAUSE WE JUST DON'T HAVE THE MONEY ANYMORE. SO WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR IF WE CHOOSE TO STAY IN STATUS QUO? WE WILL FOLLOW THE ARTICLES OF 10.7 IN THE CBA AND THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS SAYS IS 30% LOAD FOR FOUR SEMESTERS. OKAY. AND FOLKS CAN RECEIVE $1,100 FOR REIMBURSEMENT AND THE POOL WILL STAY AT 137,000, AND THE DISTRICT WILL BE REIMBURSED AT $0.50 ON THE DOLLAR. SOMETHING I ALSO DO WANT TO POINT OUT IS 30% LOAD IS NOT MEETING STATE ELIGIBILITY TO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE STATE, FOLKS HAVE TO WORK AT LEAST 40% LOAD. SO THE DISTRICT WILL BE MISSING OUT ON THOSE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THOSE WHO WORK 30% TO 39.999%. SO WHAT IS CCF ENCOURAGING THE DISTRICT TO CONSIDER? WE'RE ENCOURAGING THE DISTRICT TO CONSIDER FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF AB 190. WHAT THAT MEANS IS THE ABILITY TO OFFER COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE TO ELIGIBLE PART TIME FACULTY MEMBERS, AND THE DISTRICT WILL BE REIMBURSED DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR, [00:40:10] AND THERE'S NO SIGNIFICANT COST TO THE DISTRICT. SO AGAIN, APRIL TALKED ABOUT THE FOUR TENETS OF AB ONE 9190. WHAT ARE THESE FOUR TENETS? FIRST, OFFER HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE TO ALL ELIGIBLE PART TIME FACULTY. SECOND, OFFER PART TIME FACULTY THE SAME HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS PROVIDED TO FULL TIME FACULTY. THIRD, PREMIUMS PAID BY PART TIME FACULTY ARE NO MORE THAN THE ACTUAL PREMIUM PAID BY FULL TIME FACULTY IN THE DISTRICT. AND LASTLY, TO ESTABLISH SOME SORT OF REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM TO ALL ELIGIBLE MULTI DISTRICT PART TIME FACULTY AKA FREEWAY FLIERS. BY DOING SO, WE WILL RECEIVE 100% REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR, INCLUDING THIS FALL. HERE IS THE LIST OF DISTRICTS WHO HAVE IMPLEMENTED AB 190. THEY ARE GOING TO RECEIVE 100% REIMBURSEMENT FOR 2324. AS YOU CAN SEE, YOU SEE LACCD. YOU SEE NORTH ORANGE COUNTY. YOU SEE SANTA MONICA. SO WHAT DOES IT MEAN? NEXT STEPS. WE'RE ASKING THE TRUSTEES TO BARGAIN IN GOOD FAITH WITH CCF. WE CAN GO AHEAD AND SIGN AN MOU. THEN FROM THERE, WE HAVE TO ADOPT A NEW GROUP RESOLUTION THROUGH CALPERS. AND BECAUSE OF SB 142 THAT WAS PASSED IN SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR, THIS ALLOWS THE DISTRICT TO ESSENTIALLY ALLOW PART TIME FACULTY WHO MEET 40% LOW TO BE CONSIDERED FULL TIME FACULTY ONLY FOR CALPERS INSURANCE PURPOSES. AND I WOULDN'T BE A GOOD TEACHER IF I DON'T LEAVE YOU RESOURCES. THERE ARE RESOURCES FOR YOU TO CONSIDER, AND THESE ARE HOT LINKS. AND YOU CAN CLICK ON THEM AND YOU CAN READ THEM DURING YOUR OWN LEISURE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO 2.01 RECOGNITION OF PART [2.01 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of Part-Time Faculty Charles Osaki selected as LA's Top 100 Accountants] TIME FACULTY. CHARLES OSAKA SELECTED AS LA'S TOP 100 ACCOUNTANT. GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. I HAVE THE HONOR TO PRESENT CHARLES OZAKI WITH THE CERTIFICATE TODAY FOR HIS RECOGNITION AS ONE OF THE TOP 100 ACCOUNTANTS IN THE LA AREA. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN CHARLIE IN ACTION, HE IS HE FELT RETIREMENT. ACTUALLY, I WAS GOING TO SAY RETIRE, BUT HE MAY HAVE BEEN RETIRED OF HIS PREVIOUS JOB, BUT HE'S STILL VERY ACTIVE WITH US. HE IS AN INCREDIBLE FACULTY MEMBER AND A GREAT ASSET FOR OUR STUDENTS. SINCE HIS ARRIVAL TO CERRITOS COLLEGE, IN COLLABORATION WITH THEIR CURRENT ACCOUNTING FACULTY THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IMPLEMENT NEW AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS. THEY HAVE LED TO OTHER STUDENTS ENTERING SOME OF THE BEST ACCOUNTING SCHOOLS IN OUR AREA. IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HOW THAT WORKS, WHICH I WASN'T EITHER. IT SEEMS THE BIG ACCOUNTING FIRMS ONLY RECRUIT FROM VERY SPECIFIC FIRMS FOR VERY SPECIFIC SCHOOLS, VERY SPECIFIC STUDENTS, AND AMONG ALL OF OUR FACULTY INCLUDING CHARLIE, THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CREATE VERY STRONG PARTNERSHIPS WITH OUR NEIGHBORING SCHOOLS, AND OUR STUDENTS NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO TRANSFER TO THOSE INSTITUTIONS EASILY IN THE PAST. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THEY HAVE THE ABILITY OF GETTING IN TOUCH WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE ALREADY WORKING AT THESE INSTITUTIONS AND SEE SOMEONE THERE THAT MODELS WHAT THEY WANT TO DO. SO I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU, CHARLES, FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO THE INSTITUTION, FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND CONGRATULATIONS AND WELL DESERVED. YES. I WANT TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT I DO. LET ME TAKE YOU BACK TO FOUR AND A HALF YEARS AGO. I MET THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR TERRY LANCE ON ACCOUNTING EDUCATION COMMITTEE THAT WE BOTH ARE ON FOR THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. EXCUSE ME. AND I WAS AT THE END OF MY CAREER, AND I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO TEACH. IT WAS A REALLY A PASSION TO WANT TO DO SOMETHING. [00:45:03] AND PROFESSOR LANCE GAVE ME THAT OPPORTUNITY. I DIDN'T KNOW IT END UP BEING A SECOND CAREER. BUT IN MY FIRST SEMESTER, A STRAIGHT-A STUDENT NAMED HUGO ASKED TO SPEAK WITH ME. AND IN SPEAKING WITH HIM, HE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT TRANSFERRING. AND I ASKED HIM, WHY IS IT THAT I'M MORE EXCITED ABOUT YOUR FUTURE THAN YOU ARE? AND HE SAID, YOU KNOW, PROFESSOR OSAKI, BEING THE FIRST ONE TO GO TO COLLEGE IN YOUR FAMILY IS A LONELY JOURNEY. MY PARENTS ARE MY GREATEST SUPPORTERS. THEY'RE MY GREATEST DOUBTERS. I'M THE ONLY ONE FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL GOING TO COLLEGE. I CAN'T ASK MY EXTENDED FAMILY. THEY'RE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY. AND SO I'M AN ADJUNCT FACULTY MEMBER. I TEACH, I GUESS, WHAT THEY CALL 40% LOAD. I TEACH THE MAXIMUM TWO CLASSES A SEMESTER. AND AS AN ADJUNCT FACULTY, AT LEAST IN MY PROFESSION OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE, YOU BRING 40 YEARS OF EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE, AND YOU BRING ABOUT 150 OF MY FORMER COLLEAGUES ALONG WITH YOU. AND WE STARTED A PROGRAM CALLED PATHWAY TO SUCCESS. THERE ARE TWO THINGS A STUDENT LIKE HUGO FACES A TRANSFER TO A FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY, WHICH, TO BE SUCCESSFUL, TAKES MORE THAN GRADES, EVEN MORE THAN STRAIGHT A'S, AND THEN A NEW CAREER. AND THIS PERSON IS GOING TO BE A PIONEER, THE FIRST ONE TO DO IT. HE EVEN SAID IT BEST. I'M ON THIS JOURNEY, I'M ON A HIKE AND IT'S LIKE A HIKE AT NIGHT. I HAVE NO FLASHLIGHT, I HAVE NO MAP, BUT I KNOW I HAVE TO GET THE BEST GRADES POSSIBLE. I KNOW THAT THAT IS LONELY. AND SO WHAT WE PROVIDE IS TRAINING A YEAR LONG PROGRAM. IT'S NO FEES. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BE REFERRED BY A FACULTY MEMBER. AND WE TEACH HIGH LEVEL, ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL INTERACTIVE SKILLS SO THAT WHEN YOU'RE IN UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY, YOU HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SKILLS. EVERYBODY HAS A MENTOR. I MENTIONED ALL MY FRIENDS THAT CAME ALONG, ALL MY FORMER COLLEAGUES. THEY'RE ALL SENIOR PROFESSIONALS, CEOS, PARTNERS, CHIEF EXECUTIVES, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICERS, SENIOR MANAGERS. EVERY ONE OF THEM HAS A MENTOR, EVERY ONE OF THEM. AND THEY HAVE. WHAT WE DO IS FILLED THE VOID. A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE TALENT, SOME LEVEL OF TALENT. THEY ALL HAVE A DESIRE TO CHANGE THEIR ECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT THEY LACK THE THIRD LEG. THAT'S NECESSARY FOR SUCCESS. GUIDANCE. WE PROVIDE THAT GUIDANCE. AND IT STARTED HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. OKAY. JUST BECAUSE A STUDENT ASKED ME FOR HELP AT 9 P.M. AT NIGHT. AND SO WHAT ENDED UP BEING AN ACCOUNTING JOB ENDED UP BEING A SECOND CAREER BECAUSE WE'RE IN OUR FOURTH YEAR. SO THE FIRST GROUP IS NOW IN THEIR FIRST CAREER. I CAN TELL YOU THAT 100% OF THEM WERE HIRED FULL TIME BY PROFESSIONAL FIRMS. I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE AVERAGE SALARY IS $74,000. I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE INTERNS, BIG CPA FIRMS AND CONSULTING FIRMS DON'T HIRE COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS. RIGHT NOW, I CAN TELL YOU WE HAVE EIGHT, 7 OR 8 OF THEM. AND THEY'RE THEY'RE ONLY AT TWO YEARS AND THEIR INTERIM WAGE IS 25 TO $36 AN HOUR. BY THE WAY, 95% OF THE INTERNS ARE HIRED FOR FULL TIME. THE FIRMS WILL WAIT TWO YEARS FOR THEM AS THEY FINISH OUT THEIR TWO YEARS AT A FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY. SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THE RECOGNITION. DOCTOR FIERRO TERRY, THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN. BUT WHAT I'M REALLY PROUD OF, AND WHAT HAS REALLY ENERGIZED ME, IS A CHANCE TO CHANGE THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE AND CHART A COURSE FOR THEIR LIVES THAT THEY NEVER DREAMED OF. BUT GUESS WHAT? THEIR DREAMS ARE GOING TO COME TRUE. SO I THANK YOU FOR THIS RECOGNITION. TERRY, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING UP WITH ME FOR FOUR YEARS AND HONORABLE TRUSTEES. THANK YOU FOR THIS RECOGNITION. APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU. PHOTOS. ARTWORK. YES. YES. THAT'S RIGHT. OKAY. AND SHE KEEPS ME HERE. OH, YES. ARE YOU. READY? ONE. TWO. THREE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. [00:50:03] THANK YOU, CHARLES, FOR YOUR SERVICE. THANK YOU. OKAY. WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO DO 2.02 AND 2.03 TOGETHER. [2.02 Public Discussion and Presentation of the Initial Proposal of the Cerritos Community College District to the Cerritos College Faculty Federation (CCFF), AFT, Local 6215, for Negotiation of the CCFF-District Collective Bargaining Agreement for the period of July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2027] [2.03 Public Discussion and Presentation of the Initial Proposal of the Cerritos College Faculty Federation (CCFF), AFT, Local 6215, to the Cerritos Community College District for Negotiation of the CCFF-District Collective Bargaining Agreement for the period of July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2027] THESE ARE PRESENTATION OF INITIAL PROPOSAL BETWEEN CCF AND CERRITOS COLLEGE REGARDING COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT. THE PERIOD IS JULY 1ST, 2024 TO JUNE 30TH, 2027. IN THIS, WE NEED TWO OF THEM, RIGHT? AND WE NEED TO VOTE. OR WE NEED TO YEAH, WE NEED TO OPEN THE YOU KNOW, PUBLIC HEARING. YEAH. ALL RIGHT. NO COMMENTS. WE'LL CLOSE. YEAH. WE'LL MOVE TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING. ANY MOTION? SO MOVED. SECOND. YOU WANT TO DO A ROLL CALL? YEAH. MARIANA. STUDENT TRUSTEE. SCOTT. I TRUSTEE BIRKEY IS ABSENT. TRUSTEE GREENE. I TRUSTEE LEWIS. A TRUSTEE LOO I TRUSTEE PACHECO. TRUSTEE PEREZ IS ABSENT TRUSTEE SALAZAR I. I'LL CIRCLE BACK TO TRUSTEE. PACHECO. MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU. SO WE. NEXT ONE IS 2.06 HUMAN RESOURCE UPDATE. [2.06 Institutional Presentation: Human Resources Updates] OKAY. THANK YOU. OKAY. I WILL BE PRESENTING ON MONTHLY BASIS. I CLICK THE BLUE BUTTON. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HEAR ME. YEAH. OKAY. I'LL BE PRESENTING MONTHLY SOME AIR UPDATES AS THEY RELATE TO OUR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND ACCESSIBILITY EFFORTS FOR TODAY. I'D LIKE TO PROVIDE YOU A QUICK UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF OUR EEO PLAN. SOME OF OUR HR INITIATIVES THAT ARE PART OF OUR, OF OUR EFFORTS IN ORDER TO ENHANCE AIR METRICS AND SOME OTHER THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING AND AN UPDATE ON OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD ON OUR EQUITY WORK. SO FIRST AND FOREMOST, UNDER OUR EEO PLAN, AS YOU KNOW, WE ARE REQUIRED UNDER TITLE FIVE TO HAVE AN EEO PLAN. HOWEVER UNDER THE RECENT CHANGES THAT HAPPENED IN THE LAST YEAR MOST OF OUR COLLEGE DISTRICT PARTNERS, INCLUDING CERRITOS, HAVE RECEIVED GUIDANCE WITH REGARD TO THE CHANGES UNDER THE EEO PLAN. AND THE SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE EEO PLAN IS THAT WE ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE A DRAFT OF THE OF THE ACTUAL PLAN TO THE STATE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE FOR FEEDBACK PRIOR TO BRINGING YOU A FINAL DRAFT FOR YOUR REVIEW AND CONSIDERATION. THAT IS A NEW CHANGE. WHICH IS WHY WE'VE NOT BROUGHT YOU ANY PLAN. SINCE JANUARY OF THIS YEAR. IN 2023 HUMAN RESOURCES HAS WORKED WITH OUR DISTRICT EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE, OR DOC WHEREIN WE HELD SEVERAL RETREATS TO IDENTIFY AREAS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO GROW AND ENHANCE OUR DIVERSITY EFFORTS SO THAT WE COULD WORK ON THE DIVERSITY PLAN, WHICH HAS A TEMPLATE WHICH UNDER COMPONENT NUMBER 13, WE ARE REQUIRED TO NOT ONLY ADDRESS RECRUITMENT, BUT WE ARE ALSO TO DO SIGNIFICANT WORK UNDER HR METRICS FOR LONGITUDINAL DATA ON BOTH THE PRE-EMPLOYMENT THE RECRUITMENT SELECTION, HIRING PROCESS. SO BEGINNING BRING THEM ON BOARD AS WELL AS RETAIN RETENTION. SO IT'S THE PRE PRE-APPLICATION PROCESS, THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS ITSELF. WHILE YOU'RE GOING THROUGH THE APPLICATION INTERVIEW PROCESS, AS WELL AS RETAINING IN ORDER FOR WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO TO KEEP YOU HERE LONG TERM. FEEDBACK WINDOW THAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW WITH THE STATE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE IS THAT THERE IS ROUGHLY ABOUT A FOUR MONTH PERIOD FOR US TO RECEIVE FEEDBACK ON OUR DRAFT PLAN WITH THE BLESSINGS OF DEAC AND THE SHARING WITH OUR CONSTITUENCY GROUPS. [00:55:05] IT WAS SENT ON SEPTEMBER 30TH, SO WE WOULD LIKE TO HOPE THAT BY JANUARY WE HAVE SOME FEEDBACK TO REVIEW AND CONSIDER SO THAT WE CAN MOVE FORWARD IN OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH YOU FOR A FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PLAN. SOME OF THE EFFORTS, HOWEVER, WE ARE NOT STOPPING AND WAITING FOR FULL REVIEW BY THE STATE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE. WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH SEVERAL OTHER INITIATIVES, INCLUDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SOME IN THE EVENTS THAT WE'VE HAD IN THE LAST QUARTER, IN PARTICULAR FOR RETENTION. WE HAVE BROUGHT BACK THE FALCON LEADERSHIP ACADEMY. IT'S BEEN REINSTITUTED, AND WE HAVE 26 EMPLOYEES OF ALL RANK AND FILE WHO HAVE SIGNED UP. AND WE ARE CURRENTLY UNDERGOING A YEAR LONG PROGRAM, AND WE'D LIKE TO BRING THEM TO YOU SOME TIME IN EITHER MAY OR JUNE SO THAT YOU CAN MEET OUR FUTURE LEADERS OF CERRITOS COLLEGE AND OUR COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM, AND WE WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME OF THE CAPSTONE PROJECTS THAT THEY ARE WORKING IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE PROGRAM AND OPERATION. HERE AT CERRITOS. WE'VE WORKED ON FALCON DAY, WHICH IS AN INSTITUTIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY. WE HELD IT ON NOVEMBER 3RD. WE HAD A PRESENTATION THAT WAS DONE BY THE OFFICE OF CIVIL RIGHTS FOR OUR FACULTY PARTNERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN RECORD NUMBERS. WE HAD ABOUT 161 FACULTY THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE OCR TRAINING AS PART OF THEIR FLEX REQUIREMENT IN ORDER FOR US TO ADDRESS STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY COMPONENTS AS PART OF THE OCR. WE ALSO ADDRESSED ISSUES IMPACTING LGBTQ AND AT THE REQUEST OF CSEA, WE DID HAVE A MOCK INTERVIEW PROCESS WHERE WE BROUGHT IN A COUPLE OF OUR PARTNERS OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT, AND WE HAD SOME TIPS AND INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES THAT WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING FORWARD AND AND DEVELOPING A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DETAIL, MOVING, MOVING INTO THE FUTURE. WE ALSO HAD OUR LATINX HERITAGE MONTH ON OCTOBER 4TH. WE HAD A PERFORMANCE BY OUR DANCE STUDENTS, AND WE REVIEWED A DOCUMENTARY THAT WE SHARED WITH OUR STAFF ON THE MENDEZ VERSUS WESTMINSTER DESEGREGATION EFFORTS UNDER OUR LATINX COMMUNITY JUST DOWN THE STREET. UNDER OUR INITIATIVES, WE ARE MOVING DIGITAL WHETHER WE ARE READY OR NOT, WE ARE GOING THERE. AND WHAT DIGITAL INTEGRATION MEANS IN HR. IT'S FOUR AREAS. OUR LONGITUDINAL ANALYSIS COMPONENT, WHICH WE ARE REQUIRED UNDER TITLE FIVE TO HAVE AT ALL ASPECTS OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS. IN ORDER FOR US TO BE ABLE TO ENSURE THAT WE ARE REMOVING ANY AND ALL BARRIERS FOR SPECIFIC AND TARGETED GROUPS OF APPLICANTS. THE ONLY WAY THAT WE BELIEVE THAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH THE LONGITUDINAL ANALYSIS IS BY MAKING CHANGES TO THE WAY WE COLLECT OUR DATA, SO WE ARE CURRENTLY UNDERGOING THAT PROCESS. WE ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO PICK A STRATEGY ANONYMOUS APPLICATIONS OR CLUSTER HIRING. WE ARE GOING WITH ANONYMOUS APPLICATIONS AND WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH NEO, WHICH IS OUR APPLICATION PORTAL TO ENSURE THAT WE'VE IMPLEMENTED THE FEATURES TO INTEGRATE THAT COMPONENT, AND WE'VE ALREADY STARTED TESTING IT IN MINOR WAYS, BUT WE'VE STARTED TESTING IT. WE'RE ENHANCING OUR PERSONNEL FILES AND GOING COMPLETELY DIGITAL. SO WE ARE CURRENTLY STAGING FOR PAPERLESS PERSONNEL FILES. AND YES, I PROMISE YOU, WE'RE NOT LOSING ANY. WE ARE STILL REQUIRED TO FOLLOW OUR RETENTION POLICY. SO WE WILL KEEP THE PAPER COPIES FOR AS LONG AS WE HAVE TO, BUT WE ARE MIGRATING THAT. AND FINALLY, THAT BRINGS THE CONVERSATION ON THE INTEGRATION OF DIA EVALUATIONS. AND WE ARE CURRENTLY MOVING INTO THE AUTOMATION PROCESS. WE ARE AT VARIOUS STAGES OF THAT RIGHT NOW, BUT WE ARE IN TALKS TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF OUR PARTNERS HAVE A DIGITAL EVALUATION PROCESS AND MORE TO COME AS WE MOVE FORWARD ON THAT CONVERSATION. AND FINALLY, WE HAVE LOTS OF OPENINGS. AT ANY GIVEN TIME, WE CARRY ROUGHLY 30 VACANCIES IN VARIOUS CAPACITIES BETWEEN CLASSIFIED MANAGEMENT AND FACULTY. WE CARRY ROUGHLY 30 PER SEMESTER, SO WE ARE CONTINUOUSLY BUSY. YOU HAVE THE. ACTUALLY, THOSE ARE LAST WEEK'S OPENINGS. WE'VE CLOSED A COUPLE, BUT WE ARE VERY BUSY IN H.R. TRYING TO FILL DIFFERENT VACANCIES FOR ALL RANK AND FILE. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. OKAY. ALL RIGHT. SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO 2.04. [2.04 Institutional Presentation: Sustainability Framework] AND IT'S BY VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ. GOOD EVENING. [01:00:01] ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU AND GOOD EVENING. I'M EXCITED TO GO OVER OUR SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK AND PRESENT ON WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING OVER THE LAST NINE OR SO MONTHS. SO JUST A LITTLE BIT BACKGROUND BEFORE THEN, I TURN IT OVER TO SOME OF MY COLLEAGUES THAT ARE WITH US TODAY. SO THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK WAS TO SET CREATE A SET OF GUIDING PRINCIPLES. AND THESE GUIDING PRINCIPLES INCLUDED PRIORITIES IN AREAS SUCH AS WELLNESS, MENTAL HEALTH ON OUR CAMPUS. THIS FRAMEWORK THEN WOULD BE UTILIZED TO HELP GUIDE THE SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS IN OUR UPCOMING FACILITIES MASTER PLAN. THIS PROJECT BEGAN BACK IN MAY WITH A DATA REQUEST AND A DATA DOWNLOAD OF ALL OF OUR INFORMATION FROM WATER USAGE TO ENERGY TO ALL OF OUR UTILITY USAGE ON THERE. FROM THERE, WE MOVED TO OUR QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS, WHICH INCLUDED TWO WORKSHOPS. THEN IT WRAPPED UP IN EARLY ABOUT MIDWAY AND AUGUST, WE HOSTED A TWO DAY CAMPUS ADDITIONAL WORKSHOP THAT LASTED OVER TWO DAYS TO GET INPUT AND ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK FROM THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY. FROM THERE, IT RESULTED IN A DRAFT SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK. AND NOW WE'RE FAST FORWARD TODAY, WE'RE HERE TO PRESENT THAT TO YOU AND WITH US TODAY. FROM OUR COLLEAGUES FROM THE DLR GROUP WE HAVE JACKIE ECKHARDT, OUR PLANNING LEADER, AND THEN PATTY MASON, OUR INTEGRATED ENERGY PLANNER WITH US TODAY. SO I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO JACKIE, AND SHE'LL GET US GOING. GREAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. GOOD EVENING. SO WE'LL MOVE ON TO OUR FIRST SLIDE HERE. AND TO REITERATE THE COMMENTS FELIPE, JUST TO KIND OF UNDERSCORE THAT OUR INTENT HERE IS TO REALLY BUILD UPON AND EVOLVE YOUR PREVIOUS COMMITMENTS FROM THE BOARD. MOST RECENTLY, WE'VE SEEN CERRITOS EMBARK ON A PLASTIC PRODUCT BAND, A SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT, AND EVEN RECEIVE A GREEN AWARD. SO, YOU KNOW, WE'RE WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IMPLEMENTING A FRAMEWORK THAT ALLOWS CERRITOS COLLEGE TO REMAIN MAINTAINABLE, TO BE SUSTAINABLE, AND THAT HELPS TO BROADEN YOUR VISION OF THE CAMPUS AND THE DISTRICT THROUGH A LENS OF SUSTAINABILITY, WELLNESS AND RESILIENCE. AND THIS AS AS WAS MENTIONED, WAS CERTAINLY INFORMED BY THE COLLEGE AND THE COMMUNITY. SO WITH THAT, I'LL. I WON'T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME. BUT THE NEXT SLIDE TALKS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR PROCESS. YOU CAN SEE THE TIMELINE THERE. AND ALSO THE, THE FRAMEWORK ITSELF OF THE TASKS AND THE PHASES OF WHICH WE WORK THROUGH TO DEVELOP THIS SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK. SO AS WE INITIATED THE PROJECT AND COLLECTED DATA THAT MOVED US INTO OUR ANALYSIS STAGE WHERE WE WERE DOING PARALLEL PATHS. WE WERE TALKING ABOUT A VISION AND CONDUCTING THOSE WORKSHOPS. ONE IN PARTICULAR WAS CALLED THE VALUES WORKSHOP, AND THAT WAS ATTENDED BY STAFF AND FACULTY. THAT REALLY HELPED TO FOCUS OUR EFFORTS AND ALSO CONSIDER WHICH LISTENING SESSIONS WE SHOULD CARRY FORWARD INTO WELLNESS. ACADEMICS, WATER, ENERGY AND TO ALSO ASK WHAT'S WORKING? WHAT'S NOT WORKING? WHAT ARE THE OPPORTUNITIES ON CAMPUS? AND THROUGH THAT, THE PARTICIPANTS INCLUDED ADMINISTRATION, SUSTAINABILITY ADVOCATES, FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS. AND AS MENTIONED, OUR TEAM VISITED CAMPUS. WE CONDUCTED DIGITAL OUTREACH AND THIS HELPED US TO CONFIRM THE GOALS IF WE GOT THEM RIGHT AND TO HELP US RECEIVE INPUT ON HOW THEY CAME TOGETHER AND TO TRULY REFLECT THE PRIORITIES OF THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY. WE RECEIVED 200 RESPONSES FROM THE DIGITAL OUTREACH. AS WE DEVELOPED THOSE GOALS AND CONCEPTS. THEY WERE THEY WERE INFUSED BY THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY, AS YOU'VE HEARD. AND THEN WE WORKED TOWARDS THE APPROVALS, AND HERE WE ARE WITH WITH THE DRAFT PLAN FOR YOU. SO NEXT SLIDE TALKS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT INFORMS THE PLAN. AND UP TOP FRONT AND CENTER IS THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE CLIMATE ACTION AND SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK. WOW, THAT'S A MOUTHFUL. BUT THAT WAS THE PRIORITY POLICY FOR US TO FOLLOW. IN ADDITION TO THAT, THE DISTRICT'S PROCEDURES AND POLICIES AND THEN BEYOND. [01:05:04] IN A BROADER SENSE, WE LOOKED AT BENCHMARKS WITH ASHY STARS AS A NATIONAL RESOURCE AND THEN SECOND, NATURE'S RESILIENCE FRAMEWORK. AND I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT IN A SECOND. PATTY IS THAT THAT WAS HER JAM. SO SHE CAN ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AROUND AROUND HOW THOSE FIT INTO THE FRAMEWORK. IN ADDITION TO THAT, YOU'VE HEARD OF ALL OF THE ENGAGEMENT THAT REALLY HELPED TO ENRICH AND BOLSTER ALL OF THE CONTENT WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK AND THEN AND HOW IT'S COME TO BE. SO NEXT TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE, SUSTAINABILITY IS CERTAINLY AN ECONOMIC FRAMEWORK. WE'RE THINKING THAT THE THREE P'S PEOPLE, PLANET, PROFIT. SO THAT WAS A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION ACROSS EACH OF THE FOCUS AREAS HERE. AND WE'RE THINKING HOLISTICALLY. WE'RE THINKING ABOUT HOW SUSTAINABILITY IMPACTS ALL KINDS OF LIFE ON CAMPUS. AND SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE CAN BE USEFUL TO HELP DEDICATE THOSE RESOURCES TO LONG TERM PROGRAMING AND THINKING ABOUT HOW TO UTILIZE SYSTEMS FOR DECISION MAKING. SO IT'S A LENS THAT GUIDED CONVERSATIONS DURING THE LISTENING SESSIONS AND IT'S MULTIDIMENSIONAL. AND SO WE'RE THINKING INFRASTRUCTURE, ECONOMICS, ECOSYSTEM SERVICES, SOCIAL EQUITY AND GOVERNANCE. AND FINALLY HEALTH AND WELLNESS. AND THE DIMENSIONS ARE EMBEDDED ACROSS THE SEVEN AREAS THAT YOU SEE HERE ON THE OF THE FRAMEWORK. SO THE RESULTING SEVEN IMPACT AREAS THAT YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN ARE THE TOP PRIORITIES ADDRESSED. AND THEY WERE CREATED COLLECTIVELY BY THE DISTRICT. THE UNDERLYING GOALS AND THE STATEMENTS THAT YOU SEE TO THE RIGHT. THEY HELP TO ESTABLISH ASPIRATIONAL THINKING THAT THE DISTRICT AND THE COLLEGE WILL WORK TOWARD. THESE WERE ESTABLISHED BY CROSS REFERENCING THOSE CHANCELLOR'S GOALS AND THE AC STARZ FRAMEWORK WITH THE IMPACT AREAS AND BEYOND THESE, IF YOU FLIP THROUGH THE THE FULL REPORT, THERE ARE ADDITIONAL OBJECTIVES, ACTIONS, MEASURES, METRICS AND MILESTONES WHICH WERE CONSIDERED ACROSS EACH IMPACT AREA. SO THE ALIGNMENT. NEXT SLIDE. THESE TWO OTHER FRAMEWORKS WERE HEAVILY CROSS-REFERENCED AND ALIGNED TO CREATE THIS NEW SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK, AND THEY ACCOUNT WITHIN EACH RESPECTIVE IMPACT AREA AND SET OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. SO THE GAPS THAT YOU SEE HERE ARE INTENTIONALLY SHOWN BECAUSE THEY'RE WHERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CERRITOS CAN INITIATE LEADERSHIP IN THOSE AREAS, IN THOSE GAPS. AND THEY'RE ALSO REFLECTIVE OF THE CATEGORIES THAT ARE RECOGNIZED AS TOP PRIORITIES FOR THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY. SO HERE THIS FRAMEWORK IS NOT THE CONCLUSION. IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS FRAMEWORK IS GOING TO START WITH THE FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE, AND WE WILL PLAN TO MEET WITH THEM NEXT WEEK TO REVIEW AND DISCUSS NEXT STEPS. I'LL STOP THERE AND ASK IF THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU JACKIE. ONE THING I WANTED TO ADD TO THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION IN THE BEGINNING OF IT INCLUDED IN THIS ITEM NOT ONLY IS A PRESENTATION, BUT THE ACTUAL FRAMEWORK ITSELF, THE FULL BLOWN DOCUMENT FOR YOUR PLEASURE AND REVIEW, BUT WE'RE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE AT THIS TIME. OKAY. ANY MORE MEMBERS QUESTION? NO. OKAY. THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. AND JUST WANTED SPECIAL THANKS OUT TO OUR COLLEAGUES FOR DLR PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROCESS WITH US. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO 2.05 DUAL ENROLLMENT. [2.05 Institutional Presentation: Dual Enrollment] GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. MY NAME IS COLLEEN MCKINLEY. I'M THE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS AND PROGRAMS, AND IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE TO YOU ON OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM. I'M JOINED THIS EVENING BY OUR NEWEST MEMBER OF THE DUAL ENROLLMENT TEAM, OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT MANAGER, JOAN VARELA, WHO YOU PROBABLY HAVE NOT HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET. SO WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO PROVIDE A LITTLE BIT OF DATA AND UPDATES ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS. SO WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT HERE IS OUR HEADCOUNT FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE IN OR WHO ARE TAKING CLASSES AS HIGH SCHOOL OR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. THESE NUMBERS INCLUDE STUDENTS WHO ARE TAKING CLASSES THAT WE HAVE CLOSED TO OUR PARTNER HIGH SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ON THEIR OWN WHO COME TO THE COLLEGE AND TAKE CLASSES WITH OTHER COLLEGE STUDENTS. [01:10:03] WHAT'S REALLY SIGNIFICANT ABOUT THIS NUMBER IS THAT FOR THE 2324, WE HAD JUST OVER 1000 STUDENTS IN SUMMER, AND WE HAVE OVER 2000 STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY TAKING COLLEGE CLASSES, SO WE ARE ALREADY ABOVE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT TOOK DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES LAST YEAR. AND WE STILL HAVE SPRING TO GO, AND WE HAVE ABOUT 95 CLASSES THAT WILL BE OFFERED IN SPRING. SO THE GROWTH REALLY HAS BEEN TREMENDOUS. AND YOU CAN SEE OVER TIME HOW IT SPIKED. I THINK THAT THE PANDEMIC HELPED US OUT A LITTLE BIT WITH THE ABILITY TO COLLABORATE VIRTUALLY AND ALSO OFFER DIFFERENT MODALITIES. SO THIS IS REALLY EXCITING. I THINK WHAT'S MORE EXCITING IS THAT OFTENTIMES WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS TAKING COLLEGE CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL, IT'S HOW ARE THEY DOING? AND SO LOOKING SPECIFICALLY AT STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE CLASSES THAT WE HAVE UNDER OUR CAP AGREEMENTS, WHO ARE CLOSE TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. OVER TIME, YOU CAN SEE THAT STUDENTS ARE DOING VERY WELL IN THESE CLASSES, AND THAT WE SEEM TO BE GETTING BETTER AT IDENTIFYING THE COURSES THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AS WELL AS THE SUPPORTS THAT MIGHT BE NECESSARY. SO OVERALL, SINCE WE ARE LOOKING AT THIS DATA UP THERE, WE HAVE AN 82% SUCCESS RATE. SO STUDENTS RECEIVED A C OR BETTER IN THEIR COLLEGE COURSE. BUT LAST ACADEMIC YEAR, 85% OF STUDENTS. SO OF THE 1100 STUDENTS IN SUMMER PASSED THEIR CLASSES WITH A C OR BETTER. A LOT OF THIS GROWTH IS DUE TO DEVELOPING PARTNERSHIPS WITH OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS AND EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAMS. SO I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ABOUT WHAT THAT PROGRAM IS AND THE NUMBERS OF STUDENTS ATTENDING. SO WE CURRENTLY HAVE EIGHT HIGH SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING AND TWO PROGRAMS IN DEVELOPMENT. THE EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAMS ARE FOUR YEAR PATHWAYS, WHERE STUDENTS START IN NINTH GRADE, AND THEY WILL FINISH THE IGETC CURRICULUM BY THE TIME THEY GRADUATE, AND MANY OF THE STUDENTS ARE ALSO PLANNING WITH OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT COUNSELOR, ADDITIONAL MAJOR SPECIFIC CLASSES WHERE THEY CAN RECEIVE AN AA AND THEIR DIPLOMA AT THE SAME TIME. SO WE CURRENTLY HAVE 583 STUDENTS ENROLLED. BUT FOUR OF THESE PROGRAMS, IT'S THEIR VERY FIRST YEAR. SO WE HAVE FRESHMEN. AND SO THOSE SAME SCHOOLS WILL HAVE SOPHOMORES NEXT YEAR, JUNIORS TO FOLLOW THE FIRST THREE COHORTS, WHICH STARTED IN THE FALL OF 21. WE WILL HAVE GRADUATES NEXT SPRING. SO WE HAD A MEETING TODAY ACTUALLY WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEY'RE ALREADY PLANNING THE SPECIAL ROBES THAT THOSE STUDENTS WILL HAVE AT THEIR GRADUATION. SO THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL. AND WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THESE STUDENTS WILL DO ONCE THEY FINISH EARLY COLLEGE. WE ALSO HAVE DATA, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH IPG, LOOKING AT STUDENTS THAT TAKE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES AND COME TO CERRITOS COLLEGE AND COMPARING THEM TO FIRST TIME, FULL TIME, REGULAR STUDENTS WERE ALSO SEEING THAT THEY COMPLETE SOONER. AND THAT'S PROBABLY DUE TO A COMBINATION OF THINGS. NUMBER ONE, THEY'RE EARNING UNITS BEFORE THEY EVEN GET TO US. BUT NUMBER TWO, THEY'VE LEARNED HOW TO BE A COLLEGE STUDENT. AND OFTENTIMES THAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT STUDENTS SUCH AS PROFESSOR OSAKI WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT THAT. WHEN WE START TO HELP THEM BECOME COLLEGE READY AND HELP NAVIGATE THAT WHILE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL, THAT DIVIDE BETWEEN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE NARROWS. SO STUDENTS LOOKING AT THE 151 THAT TOOK DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES IN 1920. THEY WERE ALMOST THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO FINISH A DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE IN TWO YEARS AND THREE YEARS. AND THEN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 19 AND 31% IN FOUR YEARS. SO DUAL ENROLLMENT WORKS. IT IS AN AMAZING EQUITY LEVER, AND WE ARE NOW WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH OUR PARTNER DISTRICTS TO LOOK AT THE STUDENTS THAT WE'RE SERVING. AND HOW CAN WE EVEN GO MORE BROADLY TO ADDRESS OUR MOST DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED POPULATIONS? AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE, UNLESS THERE'S QUESTIONS. GO AHEAD. ARE THERE ANY PILOT PROGRAMS FOR NEW DUAL ENROLLMENT GROWTH IN THE WORKS, AT LEAST THAT YOU CAN SAY IN PUBLIC ANYWAY, IN TERMS OF LIKE A NEW CLASS OR NEW CAMPUSES OR, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING BECAUSE THIS IS INCREDIBLE GROWTH. IT REALLY IS LIKE, YOU KNOW, WHEN I REMEMBER WHEN WE FIRST WENT TO ASSEMBLY MEMBER HOLDEN'S CELEBRATION OF BASICALLY STARTING THIS WHOLE DUAL ENROLLMENT PROCESS ALTOGETHER IN LIKE 2017, 2018 WITH TRUSTEE PEREZ UP TO PASADENA AND TO TO THINK OF HOW FAR WE'VE [01:15:06] COME EVER SINCE THEN WHEN IT'S JUST BEEN, YOU KNOW, FIGHTING NONSTOP JUST TO EVEN GET A PRACTICAL DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASS BECAUSE THERE HAD BEEN BEFORE, BUT IT WASN'T REALLY PRACTICAL AND REALLY DIDN'T DO ALL THAT MUCH. BUT EVER SINCE THEN, THE STREAMLINING HAS BEEN FANTASTIC. SO, YOU KNOW, THIS THIS GROWTH IS WONDERFUL. EXPONENTIAL I LOVE IT. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE. SO THE FIRST PLACE I THINK THAT WE GO IS CIRCLING BACK TO THE IDEA OF ARE WE WORKING WITH THE ENTIRE POPULATIONS AT THE SCHOOL? SO THE CHANCELLOR HAS INTEGRATED DUAL ENROLLMENT AS ONE OF THE INITIATIVES TO REACH VISION 2030. AND WE ARE LOOKING AT OFFERING COURSEWORK TO STUDENTS EARLY ON IN HIGH SCHOOL. SO A STUDENT DEVELOPMENT COURSE OR SOMETHING THAT WILL EXPOSE ALL NINTH GRADERS TO BE ABLE TO SEE HOW DUAL ENROLLMENT AND POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION CAN BE MARRIED WITH THEIR HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. SO EARLY COLLEGE ISN'T FOR EVERY STUDENT. CTE PATHWAYS, WE'RE LOOKING TO GROW CTE PATHWAYS. BUT I THINK A LOT OF THIS GROWTH HAS BEEN BECAUSE SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS. AND WE HAVE EXCELLENT PARTNERSHIPS, AND NOT ONE SCHOOL IS EXACTLY THE SAME. SO PART OF THIS WORK IS JUST IN THIS PARTNERSHIP, HAVING THE HIGH SCHOOLS LOOK AT THEIR STUDENTS AND DETERMINE WHAT WILL BEST MEET THEIR NEEDS AND THEIR PROGRAMS. AND THAT HAS JUST I THINK OVER TIME AS WE COME COMFORTABLE WITH IT GROWN EXPONENTIALLY. SO I THINK THE NEXT FRONTIER IS ADDITIONAL CTE PATHWAYS LEADING TO CERTIFICATES BEFORE THEY GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEN ALSO JUST EXPOSURE EARLY TO HOW STUDENTS CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DUAL ENROLLMENT SO THAT THEY'RE AWARE OF IT THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL. DO WE HAVE ANY OF THOSE INCUBATING, SO TO SPEAK, IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS TO FOR SPECIFIC, YOU KNOW, CTE PATHWAYS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN DONE BEFORE? WE'RE LOOKING AT IT NOW. WE HAVE SOME KIND OF PATHWAY TO IMPLEMENT IT IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. WELL, ACTUALLY, DOCTOR MIXON AND DOCTOR FIERRO PRESENTED TO THE SUPERINTENDENTS AT THE K-12 PARTNERS BREAKFAST LAST WEEK. SOME POSSIBLE IDEAS. ALSO DISCUSS THE IDEA OF WORKING WITH CONTINUATION HIGH SCHOOLS STUDENTS IN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION WHO OFTEN DON'T GET THESE OPPORTUNITIES. AND SO THAT ASK WAS MADE AND OUR OFFICE HAS ALREADY RECEIVED SOME MEETING REQUESTS. SO AS DOCTOR FARROW SAID IT AND TURNED TO US, HE SAID, GO TO WORK, COLLEEN. SO WE'RE GOING TO WORK. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE AND WILL DO. YEAH, NO. IT'S EXCITING. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I SAID. JUST PEREZ. HI THERE. HI, DOCTOR LIU. HI, EVERYBODY. GREETINGS FROM PALM SPRINGS. IT TOOK ME FOUR HOURS TO GET HERE, BUT I MADE IT. YEAH, PROBABLY NOT THE BEST IDEA TO COME FROM DOWNTOWN LA. MIDDLE OF A RAINSTORM WITH A TEN CLOSEDOWN. BUT I'M HERE. BUT I JUST, FIRST OF ALL, WANTED TO JUST THANK YOU KNOW, THE BOTH THE PRESIDENT ACTUALLY ALL THREE PRESENTATIONS. DOCTOR GUTIERREZ, PHILIPPE'S VICE PRESIDENT. LOPEZ AND AND COLLEEN'S ALL GREAT PRESENTATIONS. REALLY THANK YOU VERY MUCH. INFORMATION. I JUST WANTED TO SEE COLLEEN. IF YOU COULD JUST REFRESH MY MEMORY AGAIN. WHAT THE EIGHT EXISTING HIGH SCHOOLS ARE AND WHAT THE TWO IN DEVELOPMENT ARE. ABSOLUTELY. SO OUR FIRST THREE PROGRAMS WERE BELLFLOWER HIGH SCHOOL, NORWALK HIGH SCHOOL AND WHITNEY. AND THEN THE FOLLOWING YEAR SAINT PIUS. SAINT MATTHIAS CAME ON AS A PRIVATE SCHOOL PARTNER. THIS YEAR WE HAVE PROGRAMS WITH FRESHMEN AT DOWNEY AND WARREN, AS WELL AS LA MIRADA HIGH SCHOOL AND ARTESIA HIGH SCHOOL. SO WE NOW HAVE AN EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM IN EACH ONE OF OUR C-CAP DISTRICTS, AT LEAST ONE. AND THEN THE PROGRAMS IN DEVELOPMENT ARE WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL AS WELL AS SAINT JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL. GREAT, WONDERFUL. THAT'S WONDERFUL TO KNOW. I THINK, YOU KNOW, COLLEEN ALREADY KNOWS. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A PROGRAM AT MAYFAIR HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL TOO. I KNOW THERE ARE SOME CHALLENGES THERE THAT COLLEEN AND I HAVE TALKED ABOUT. AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, DOCTOR FIERRO HOPEFULLY CALLING. YOU'RE COMING TO TO GIVE A PRESENTATION TO BELLFLOWER UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD ABOUT ALL THE INITIATIVES THAT WE'RE DOING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. AND I DID ASK DOCTOR FIERRO TO INCLUDE A PORTION OF IT ON OUR EARLY COLLEGE, ESPECIALLY THE SUCCESSES AT BELLFLOWER HIGH SCHOOL. AND THE OTHER DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAMS. I THINK, YOU KNOW, ALL OF YOU HAVE HEARD MY STORIES ABOUT I NOW HAVE TWO KIDS WHO ARE DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS. MY SON, WHO'S GRADUATING, WILL HAVE COMPLETED 15 HOURS OF DUAL ENROLLMENT BY THE TIME HE'S FINISHED OF NEXT SEMESTER. HE IS RIGHT NOW TAKING ENGLISH 100 AT MAYFAIR HIGH SCHOOL. HE GOES IN AT 8 A.M. ON TUESDAY, THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS. [01:20:01] THE CLASS IS TAUGHT BY PROFESSOR WHITSON, I THINK. AND IT'S 8 TO 930. AND AGAIN, I THINK IT'S BEEN A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR HIM TO REALLY PREPARE FOR COLLEGE LEVEL ENGLISH AS HE GETS READY TO MAKE THAT TRANSITION. WE ARE ALSO HIS COLLEGE IS ALSO OFFERING SOCIOLOGY NEXT SEMESTER. MAYFAIR. BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONVINCE HIM TO TAKE IT BECAUSE HE WOULD RATHER HAVE THE SEMESTER OFF IN PURE SENIORITIS FORM, BUT I'M STILL TRYING TO GET HIM TO TAKE THAT SOCIOLOGY CLASS FOR NEXT SEMESTER. AND I THINK I SHARED WITH YOU LAST SUMMER MY, WHO IS NOW A 10TH GRADER, MY 10TH GRADER TOOK ONE OF OUR OUR HEALTHY, HEALTHY COOKING CLASS BY CULINARY ARTS. BECAUSE IT WAS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CAL APPS, THEY WERE ABLE TO USE THE CULINARY ARTS KITCHEN AT AT BELLFLOWER HIGH SCHOOL. IT WAS ABOUT I THINK IT WAS LIKE 20 STUDENTS. IT WAS A VERY SHORT CLASS. I THINK IT WAS THREE WEEKS EVERY DAY FOR THREE HOURS A DAY. AND CHEF PERINI TAUGHT IT. AND SO, OF COURSE, IT WAS A FANTASTIC CLASS. AND TO THIS DAY, YOU KNOW, MY SON WILL STILL SHARE TIPS THAT HE LEARNED FROM CHEF AND ALSO ABOUT, OF COURSE, HEALTHY EATING. AND THE ONE THING THAT I'VE TALKED TO, YOU KNOW, COLLEEN AND DOCTOR FIERRO ABOUT IS MOST OF THE CLASSES AT MAYFAIR ARE REALLY DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES ARE REALLY GEARED TOWARDS THE AP STUDENTS. AND WHILE I THINK IT'S WONDERFUL THAT MY CHILDREN HAVE PERSONALLY HAVE ALL THESE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITIES, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES GOING TO ALL STUDENTS. AND I THINK WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS KIND OF THIS ENTRY LEVEL INTO DUAL ENROLLMENT. AND THE ONE THING I REALLY LIKED ABOUT THE CULINARY ARTS IS THAT IT WAS VERY HANDS ON EVERY DAY, YOU KNOW, THEY CAME BACK, IT WAS LIKE EACH WEEK, ONE WEEK WAS ALL BREAKFAST, ONE WEEK WAS ALL LUNCH, ONE WEEK'S ALL DINNER. AND EACH DAY THE STUDENTS WERE VERY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THE CHEF WAS GOING TO TEACH THEM. AND THEN THEY WERE ALSO EVEN MORE EXCITED TO ACTUALLY DO THE THINGS IN THE KITCHEN. SO WHAT I REALLY LIKED ABOUT IT IS THAT, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, IF THESE WERE KIDS WHO WERE NOT THE AP KIDS OR WHO WEREN'T ALREADY ON THE COLLEGE GOING TRACK, BEING ABLE TO TAKE A CLASS LIKE THAT, LIKE CULINARY ARTS, HAVING SUCCESS AND KNOWING THAT THEY COULD SUCCEED IN A COLLEGE LEVEL CLASS IS REALLY ABOUT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO, REALLY TRYING TO ADDRESS THE EQUITY CHALLENGES THAT WE'RE FACING WITHIN OUR CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM. SO AGAIN, I THINK I REALLY LIKE THE IDEA THAT, YOU KNOW, COLLEEN, YOU REALLY FOCUSING ON SOME OF THE CTE PATHWAYS, BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT IS SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS CAN SUCCEED IN. AND AGAIN, JUST TAKING ONE CLASS, MAYBE THAT'S ALL THEY NEED TO BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN TO GO TO COLLEGE, AND THAT CERRITOS COLLEGE IS AN OPTION FOR THEM. I THINK THE OTHER THING TOO, JUST TO TALK, JUST TO SUPPORT WHAT TRUSTEE LEWIS HAS SAID ABOUT THE GROWTH AND THE SUPPORT FOR THE PROGRAM. TODAY, I GOT THE AUTOMOTIVE AUTOMATED PHONE CALL FROM MAY 1ST SAYING, DON'T FORGET, COLLEGE APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NOVEMBER 30TH FOR UC AND CSU SYSTEM. AND THEY ALSO MENTIONED CERRITOS COLLEGE AND THE OTHER COLLEGE WHO I WILL NOT MENTION AGAIN ABOUT TALKING ABOUT THAT IN DECEMBER AND JANUARY. WE WILL BE WORKING ON THOSE TO REALLY FOCUS ON HELPING THOSE STUDENTS WHO WANT TO APPLY FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE. SO AGAIN, I THINK IT JUST GOES TO THE PARTNERSHIP THAT REALLY DOCTOR FIERRO AND ALL OUR K THROUGH 12 SUPERINTENDENTS HAVE REALLY DEVELOPED. STILL GOING TO BE PUSHING FOR MAYFAIR HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE I THINK AGAIN, THAT'S REALLY ANOTHER CAMPUS THAT REALLY COULD USE IT. I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE ARTESIA, I THINK. GAH, THAT'S WONDERFUL THAT THAT THOSE PROGRAMS HAVE REALLY DEVELOPED. AND AGAIN, JUST ANYTHING I CAN DO TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM, I THINK IT'S GREAT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, DOCTOR SALAZAR. HELLO. I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS. FIRST I THINK THE DATA AND THE GROWTH IS FANTASTIC. THAT'S A TESTAMENT OF THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING IN THE COMMUNITY. AND HERE AT CERRITOS. SO I HAVE FOUR QUESTIONS. THE FIRST ONE IS DO YOU THINK THE DUAL ENROLLMENT IS ADDRESSING THE ISSUES THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE HAVING WITH MATH AND ENGLISH COMING TO CERRITOS? LIKE, IS THAT HELPING OR IS THE GOAL SOMETHING ELSE? THAT'S A BIT LARGER THAN THAT. YEAH, THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION. WHEN WE STARTED THE WHAT WE WERE TASKED WITH DOING WAS STARTING MATH AND ENGLISH AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS. AB 705 CHANGED THAT. AB 1705 CHANGED THAT DRASTICALLY. AND SO THERE IS SOME CONVERSATION AND I BELIEVE THAT IF WE COULD START IMPLEMENTING MORE STATISTICS THAT MIGHT HELP ADDRESS THE ABILITY FOR STUDENTS TO FINISH THAT TRANSFER LEVEL MATH BEFORE THEY COME. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT DOES HAPPEN IN K 12, THOUGH, IS YOUR AP STATISTICS STUDENTS. OUR STUDENTS THAT AREN'T ACTUALLY NEED TO TAKE STATISTICS FOR THEIR MAJOR. AND SO IT'S A TOTAL MINDSET CHANGE. BUT WE WERE OFFERING LIKE MATH 60, MATH 80 AND DUAL ENROLLMENT EARLY ON, BUT WE JUST AREN'T ABLE TO DO THAT ANYMORE. [01:25:06] SO FOR ENGLISH, I THINK IT IS A DIFFERENT STORY. THE ENGLISH 100 AND THE ENGLISH 100 S AS PART OF THAT DATA, AND STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THOSE COURSES BEFORE THEY GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL. OKAY. THANK YOU. AND THE NEXT ONE IS HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE NUMBERS IN TERMS OF THE GOOD THING IS THAT YOU SAID WE'RE IN EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT, IN OUR DISTRICT, IN OUR LOCAL AREA. THE QUESTION IS DOES THAT CORRELATE THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS. BECAUSE I MOSTLY SERVE NORWALK AND IT'S A LARGE POPULATION. I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY, YOU KNOW, HIGH SCHOOLS AND POPULATION OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, BUT IS IT EQUAL IN TERMS OF PERCENTAGE OF CLASSES BEING TAUGHT COMPARED TO THE STUDENT POPULATION IN THOSE DISTRICTS? HAVE WE LOOKED AT THAT? WE HAVE WE LOOK AT THAT WITH THE SCHOOLS THEMSELVES AND AND SOME SCHOOLS HAVE IMPLEMENTED VERY ROBUST DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAMS. SOME ARE NOT QUITE THERE YET. WE DO MEET WITH EVERY HIGH SCHOOL IN NORWALK, LA MIRADA, INCLUDING JOHN GLENN AND SOUTHEAST ACADEMY. AND EACH IT TAKES TIME FOR EACH SCHOOL TO DETERMINE HOW DOES DUAL ENROLLMENT IN ARTICULATION FIT INTO THEIR PATHWAYS, THEIR CULTURE, THEIR PROGRAMS? SO I WOULDN'T SAY THAT THERE IS EQUITABLE. WE REALLY RESPOND TO WHAT THE NEED IS AND WHAT THE HIGH SCHOOLS WANT. AND SO EVERYBODY IS SORT OF AT A DIFFERENT PLACE. ANOTHER EXAMPLE MIGHT BE ARTESIA AND CERRITOS HIGH SCHOOL. THERE'S FAR MORE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES AT ARTESIA THAN THERE IS AT CERRITOS. BUT THERE'S A TON OF AP OPPORTUNITIES AT CERRITOS HIGH SCHOOL, FOR EXAMPLE. SO I WOULDN'T SAY THAT IT IS ACROSS THE BOARD, THE SAME AND WITHIN EACH DISTRICT OF THE ACTUAL HIGH SCHOOL AND WHAT THEY WANT. YES. OKAY. AND THEN THE NEXT ONE HOW DO YOU WELL, YOU ACTUALLY YOU ACTUALLY ANSWERED IT. THANK YOU. THE LAST ONE IS FOR DOCTOR FIERRO BECAUSE HE'S A NUMBERS GUY. SO I'M SURPRISED HE DID NOT PUT A KIND OF A GRAPH LIKE WHERE WE WERE GOING TO BE IN ONE YEAR AND TWO YEARS FROM THIS YEAR. WHERE ARE THE NUMBERS? WHERE'S OUR PROJECTIONS? SINCE I HAVE MANAGEMENT POTENTIAL, I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND BLAME OUR DATA PERSON FOR NOT DOING IT. NOW WHERE ARE WE GOING? WELL, ACTUALLY, THAT IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION. AND COLLEEN ALLUDED A LITTLE BIT TO THAT. SO LAST WEEK, TWO WEEKS AGO DURING THE SUPERINTENDENTS MEETING WE DID ASK FOR TWO THINGS. THE SUPERINTENDENTS, THE FIRST ONE IS TO HAVE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASS IN EVERY SINGLE NINTH GRADE CLASS IN OUR ENTIRE AREA. SO TECHNICALLY, IF EVERYTHING WORKS OUT OVER TIME, EVERY SINGLE NINTH GRADER WILL BE ENROLLED IN A CERRITOS COLLEGE CLASS, OR ENROLLMENT WILL BE WHATEVER THEIR ENROLLMENT IN NINTH GRADE CLASSES. THE SECOND THING THAT WE ASK IS TO LOOK INTO CONTINUATION SCHOOLS, BECAUSE WE HAVE SEEN THE FOR THE MOST PART. WELL DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES DO HELP STUDENTS. THE BIGGER BENEFITS ARE FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT COLLEGE BOUND, AND CONTINUATION SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE POTENTIAL, HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO WORK FOR FOR MANY REASONS THEY END UP THERE, BUT THEIR TIME IS VERY SHORT AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO PUT A FULL PATHWAY THERE. SO WE ARE FOCUSING ON DEVELOPING CERTIFICATES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO LABOR MARKET AND HIGH PAYING JOBS AND BEING ABLE TO OFFER THOSE CERTIFICATES WITH THE HOOK OF, OKAY, I KNOW YOU WANT TO TRANSFER OUT OF THIS SCHOOL, BUT IF YOU STAY AN ENTIRE SEMESTER, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO EARN ENOUGH CREDITS TO DO, LET'S SAY, CLOUD COMPUTING. THEY WILL GET YOU A SALARY OF ANYWHERE BETWEEN 60,000 TO $100,000, BUT 60 SOME THOUSAND ENTRY LEVEL. OR IF WE IF YOU IF YOU TAKE THESE CLASSES HERE AND THEN COME AND TAKE THE OTHER CLASSES WITH US, YOU GET A ONE YEAR CERTIFICATE AND OTHER FIELD, THEY ENTERED YOU INTO THE PROFESSION. SO OUR HOPE IS THAT EVERY SINGLE CONTINUATION SCHOOL HAS AT LEAST ONE FULL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM THAT THE STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO TAKE FROM BEGINNING TO END WHILE THEY ARE THERE. NOW, THE NEXT QUESTION OF THAT IS, WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH THOSE STUDENTS? BECAUSE WHAT I DON'T WANT TO TRANSMIT IS THE MESSAGE THAT BECAUSE YOU ARE IN A CONTINUATION SCHOOL, THE ONLY THING YOU CAN GET IS A CERTIFICATE. SO THOSE CERTIFICATES ARE STACKABLE CREDENTIALS, MEANING THAT THEY CAN GO TO WORK, GET A GOOD PAYING JOB, AND USE THE SAME [01:30:06] CREDITS TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION AT CERRITOS COLLEGE AND EITHER FINISH AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE THAT IS IN A WORK FORCE FIELD, OR TRANSFER TO A PROGRAM OF STUDY OF THEIR CHOICE. I THINK WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THOSE SORT OF CERTIFICATES IS HOW IS THE CERTIFICATE? AND RATHER THAN THE CERTIFICATE AS A FINAL DESTINATION? LONG STORY SHORT, WE WILL HAVE AS MANY STUDENTS THEY'LL HAVE IN THE NINTH GRADE OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. SO WHAT'S THE TIME FRAME FOR THIS GROWTH? IF IT WAS UP TO ME, I THINK NEXT YEAR. BUT COLLEEN DID NOT SEEM TO THINK THAT THAT WAS A REALISTIC ACTUALLY, NO ONE THOUGHT IT WAS REALISTIC. BUT IT WILL TAKE US PROBABLY A COUPLE OF YEARS TO IMPLEMENT IN EVERY IN EVERY DISTRICT AND PROBABLY A COUPLE MORE TO DO EVERY HIGH SCHOOL WITHIN THE DISTRICT. I THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE FASTER THAN WHAT IT TOOK US TO GET TO THE NUMBERS THAT WE ARE TODAY, BECAUSE WE KIND OF WORK OUT SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT WE HAVE, PARTICULARLY WHEN TO OFFER THE CLASSES WHO OWNS THE CLASSES AND SO ON. SO I THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE FASTER BECAUSE WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE, THE, THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS ALSO KNOW WHAT TO DO OR CHALLENGE. NOW IS THE MODALITY THAT WE OFFER THESE CLASSES ON. BECAUSE SOME OF THE CLASSES AND SOME OF THE ZERO PERIODS ARE ALREADY OCCUPIED WITH SOMETHING ELSE OR ACTIVITIES. BUT THE GOOD THING THERE WAS LEFT BEHIND FROM COVID, IS THAT WE HAVE DIFFERENT MODALITIES THAT WE CAN USE, INCLUDING ONLINE. SO MY HOPE IS THE ONE THING ABOUT TWO YEARS OR SO WILL WE ARE IN EVERY DISTRICT AND PROBABLY TWO YEARS THEREAFTER WE PROBABLY ARE IN EVERY HIGH SCHOOL. IT SOUNDS GREAT. SO FOR FOUR YEARS. WOW. I'LL GET TO WORK. CAN I ASK? GET TO WORK. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY I WAS ACTUALLY SO DISAPPOINTED THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE THE COMMUNITY THE K 12 COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP MEETING LAST WEEK. BUT I AM JUST ALWAYS AMAZED BY THE GREAT WORK THAT'S BEING DONE AND THE RECEPTIVENESS OF OUR SURROUNDING DISTRICTS IN REGARDS TO THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE TO OFFER TO OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. AND SO I DID HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH THE PRINCIPAL AT WARREN HIGH SCHOOL, AND SHE WAS JUST SO EXCITED ABOUT THE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE EARLY COLLEGE BEING ESTABLISHED ON THE CAMPUS AT WARREN HIGH SCHOOL. AND SO I'M VERY MUCH SO LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING AND KIND OF JUST SEEING, YOU KNOW, SEEING IT IN ACTION. SO I KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, THEY ARE VERY HAPPY TO AGAIN HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY. WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CONTINUATION SCHOOLS, I THINK THAT IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO PROVIDE EQUITY AND EQUITABLE ACCESS TO THE STUDENTS IN OUR LOCAL DISTRICTS. BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES, THOSE ARE THE STUDENTS WHO DO GO UNSEEN. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY CANNOT SEE THEMSELVES OR VISION THEMSELVES AS SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS AND ESPECIALLY AS COLLEGE STUDENTS. SO I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO EXPANDING THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO OUR CONTINUATION STUDENTS. I DID HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY. SPEAKING OF IN THE FUTURE, I DID HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A VISIT TO PALOMAR MIDDLE COLLEGE, AND I WAS SO AMAZED LISTENING TO THE STUDENTS SPEAK OF THEIR EXPERIENCE AND TAKING THEIR BEING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, BUT HAVING THEIR EXPERIENCE ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS. AND SO I WOULD LOVE, YOU KNOW, TO SEE THAT AS SOMETHING THAT WE, YOU KNOW, LOOK AT IN REGARDS TO THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE CAN PROVIDE STUDENTS IN PARTNERSHIP AND PARTNERING WITH THE LOCAL DISTRICT. THE ONE THING THAT IS ADVANTAGEOUS ABOUT EARLY COLLEGE IS IT DOES ALLOW STUDENTS ALSO, THOUGH, TO PLAY SPORTS, TO BE IN THE MARCHING BAND. SO WE'VE HAD CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT TOO. BECAUSE AND I WOULD WANT TO ALSO MENTION THAT FOR THE EARLY COLLEGE, THE EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAMS, WHEN THEY TAKE THEIR SCIENCE CLASSES, THEY WILL BE COMING TO OUR CAMPUS, SO THEY'LL EXPERIENCE A SCIENCE LAB. AND SO THEY WILL GET AN EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS AS WELL. AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, I LOVE THE DATA, BUT IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE DATA DISAGGREGATED A LITTLE BIT TO SHOW YOU LIKE THE SUBGROUP POPULATIONS OF THE STUDENTS WHO ARE ENROLLING AND TAKING THE CLASSES FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT AND FOR THE EARLY COLLEGE, JUST SO THAT WE CAN KIND OF KNOW WHO OR WHAT POPULATIONS OF STUDENTS THAT WE NEED TO RECRUIT A LITTLE MORE OR JUST, YOU KNOW, HAVE A LITTLE MORE COMMUNICATION WITH THOSE GROUPS SO THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO TAP INTO WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER. AND WE DID PRESENT THAT DATA. [01:35:01] IT JUST WASN'T INCLUDED IN THIS EVENING'S PRESENTATION. SO WE TOOK A LOOK AT THE OR WE BY WE I MEAN AMBER AND HER TEAM TOOK A LOOK AT THE ENROLLMENT AT THE SCHOOLS COMPARED TO OUR ETHNIC BREAKDOWN. AND WE SEE A LITTLE BIT OF WE ARE OVERSERVING OUR ASIAN POPULATION UNDERSERVING OUR HISPANIC POPULATION BY A LITTLE BIT. SO WE ARE PAYING ATTENTION TO THAT. AND THAT IS WHAT DROVE THE CONVERSATION WITH THE SUPERINTENDENTS LAST WEEK. YEAH. THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH. OH SORRY. I HAD A QUICK FOLLOW UP QUESTION. 100% AGREE WITH RIGHT NOW WITH THEM WITH TRUSTEE. DON SAID JUST ABOUT THE CONTINUATION SCHOOL. I THINK IT'S SUPER EXCITING. I WONDER, DOCTOR PHARAOH, IF YOU COULD SEND US A LIST OF WHAT WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF NINTH GRADE EXISTING NINTH GRADE CLASSES NOW AT DUAL ENROLLMENT OR EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAMS? LIKE BECAUSE I KNOW, LIKE WHEN CHANCELLOR CHRISTIAN TALKS ABOUT THIS. YES. HER GOAL IS EVERY SINGLE NINTH GRADE STUDENT WILL COMPLETE A DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASS. BUT I THINK I THINK YOU'VE MENTIONED THERE LIKE INTRO, INTRODUCTION TO CAREERS OR INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELING OR LIKE, YOU KNOW, CAREER PLANNING OR COLLEGE PLANNING. SO I'VE JUST BEEN CURIOUS IF YOU COULD JUST MAYBE DO A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH AND SEND US LIKE, WHAT ARE THOSE CLASSES THAT ARE EXISTING NOW AND WHAT KIND OF WHAT OUR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE TO MEET THAT GOAL? YEAH. I THINK WHAT WE'RE LOOKING ON IS LIKE A CAREER INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE CAREER. I YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER THE A FEW YEARS AGO. IT USED TO BE A CLASS WHEN YOU FIRST ENTERED COLLEGE. THAT WAS JUST THAT. THAT COLLEGE PREP CLASS. AND THAT IS SORT OF WHAT WE ARE HOPING TO CREATE FOR THE NINTH GRADERS. AND AT THAT POINT IF EVERYTHING GOES AS PLANNED, THAT SHOULD GIVE A PLAN FOR THEM TO ENTER THE 10TH GRADE INTO TRAJECTORY. THEY COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE BY THE TIME THEY FINISH THEIR HIGH SCHOOL. YEAH, I THINK I REMEMBER, LIKE KERN COUNTY. LIKE, THEY HAVE AN OPT OUT PROGRAM VERSUS AN OPT IN PROGRAM. RIGHT? FOR NINTH GRADE, LIKE, EVERY SINGLE NINTH GRADER IS, LIKE, ENROLLED IN COLLEGE. LIKE, I THINK OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT. UNLESS, LIKE THEIR PARENTS OR THEY HAVE SOME PERMISSION TO GET OUT, THEY'RE AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED IN COLLEGE. I MEAN, AGAIN, IT'S JUST IT'S JUST ALL THESE DIFFERENT THINGS TRYING TO REMOVE ALL THESE BARRIERS FROM STUDENTS FROM ACTUALLY ENROLLING. SO. YOU USED A WORD EARLIER. OVERSERVING. WHAT DOES THAT EXACTLY MEAN? BECAUSE I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF UNDER SERVING A POPULATION. WHAT IS OVER SERVING. SO IF YOU ARE EQUITABLY SERVING THE STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT, YOU WOULD SEE THAT THE BREAKDOWN IN YOUR DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES WOULD BE IDENTICAL TO THE DISTRICT MAKEUP. SO WE'RE ACTUALLY HAVE MORE OF A PERCENT OF ASIAN STUDENTS TAKING DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES THAN THE TOTAL ASIAN ENROLLMENT ACROSS THE DISTRICTS THAT WE HAVE OUR C-CAP CLASSES WITH. SO THAT WOULD TELL US THAT THERE ARE MORE ASIAN LIKE THE PERCENTAGE OF ASIAN STUDENTS IN OUR AREA. MORE ARE TAKING DUAL ENROLLMENT THAN THERE ARE LIKE JUST IN THEIR REGULAR ENROLLMENT, WHERE IF WE HAVE 70% HISPANIC ENROLLMENT ACROSS THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS BUT ONLY WITHIN OUR PROGRAM, ONLY 40% ARE TAKING DUAL ENROLLMENT. WE HAVE SOME ROOM TO GROW THERE. SO WHAT'S I UNDERSTAND GENERALLY THE REMEDIES FOR THE UNDER SERVING POPULATIONS IN THOSE INEQUITIES. IS THERE A REMEDY IN MIND FOR AN OVERSERVED POPULATION, JUST FOR MY OWN PEACE OF MIND THAT. NO, I DON'T. I THINK WE WANT TO OVERSERVE. I FEEL LIKE WE NEED TO OVERSERVE EVERYONE, RIGHT? BUT WHAT WE WERE TRYING TO DEMONSTRATE WITH THE DATA. AND NOW I FEEL FOR YOU, AMBER. IS THAT LARGELY STUDENTS WHO ARE COLLEGE BOUND ALREADY ARE TAKING DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES, AND THEY'RE EASY TO RECRUIT, EASY TO IDENTIFY. WE NEED TO DO BETTER AT EXPOSING STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT SEEING THEMSELVES AS COLLEGE GOING. AND THAT GENERALLY IS OUR DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED POPULATIONS. I, I DO FEEL THAT WE HAVE TO BE A LITTLE MORE INTENTIONAL IN OUR RECRUITMENT EFFORTS BECAUSE WE DO HAVE FAMILIES WHO GENERATIONALLY HAVE KNOWN OF THIS OPPORTUNITY THAT EXISTS, BUT WE DO HAVE FAMILIES THAT HAVE NO IDEA THIS EXISTS. AND SO MAKING SURE THAT THEY ARE AWARE AND REALLY HAVING, YOU KNOW, OUR HIGH SCHOOLS REACH OUT TO PARENT THEIR PARENT GROUPS SO THAT THE PARENTS ARE AWARE AND THE PARENTS ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE IN REGARDS TO THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE, BECAUSE JUST GIVING THE INFORMATION TO THE STUDENTS, IT WON'T NECESSARILY MAKE IT INTO THE HOUSEHOLD, BUT MAKING [01:40:01] SURE THAT WE, YOU KNOW, ARE INTENTIONAL ABOUT WHICH PARENTS WE GIVE THE INFORMATION TO, I THINK WILL TRULY HELP WITH THE UNDERSERVED POPULATION OR INCREASING THAT. SO JUST TO END MY COMMENTS, I JUST WANTED TO CLARIFY, BECAUSE OVERSERVED, TYPICALLY I DON'T LIKE THAT WORD, SO I WON'T USE IT AGAIN AS MUCH AS I ENJOY SEEING COLLEEN STRUGGLE LET ME THROW HER A LIFELINE. IT'S NOT NECESSARILY OVER SERVING AND UNDER SERVING AS A WAY OF SAYING YOU'RE TAKING TOO MUCH AND YOU'RE TOO LITTLE. WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IS JUST SIMPLY THE STATISTICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE POPULATIONS. THE WE HAVE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND THE EQUIVALENT THAT WE ARE, SERVING IN OUR CAMPUS. SO WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO AS A FIRST STEP IS TO ACHIEVE AN EQUAL LEVEL OF SERVICE BASED ON THE POPULATION THAT WE SERVE, BUT IDEALLY, WE SHOULD BE SERVING THE ENTIRE AVAILABLE POPULATION. NOT NECESSARILY. YOU TAKE HIM FROM HERE TO PUT THERE. THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT THE CONCEPT. NOT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO. WE DO? WE WILL FIND A DIFFERENT WAY OF SAYING THAT. I THINK I REMEMBER TELLING SOMEONE THAT WE SHOULD NOT HAVE USED THAT WORD BUT BUT BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT WE MEAN WITH THAT. WHAT WE MEAN IS THAT WE HAVE ROOM TO GROW. AND THE LESSON THERE IS THE WE NEED TO FOCUS ON THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT NECESSARILY COLLEGE BOUND, BECAUSE STATISTICALLY, IT MAKES MORE DIFFERENCE FOR THEM IN THE LONG RUN THAN IT DOES FOR THOSE WHO ARE COLLEGE BOUND. IN OTHER WORDS STUDENTS THAT ARE COLLEGE BOUND ARE GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH OR WITHOUT OUR HELP, HOPEFULLY MORE SUCCESSFUL WITH OUR HELP. BUT THE STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT COLLEGE BOUND, THERE CHANCES OF COMPLETING COLLEGE, ATTENDING COLLEGE, COMPLETING HIGH SCHOOL INCREASED DRAMATICALLY ONCE THEY REACH OUR, OUR INSTITUTION. AND THAT IS WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO WITH THOSE NUMBERS, I'M FOR SURE. AND I THINK IN A FUTURE DATA NUGGET I'D LIKE TO SEE, LIKE WHERE OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS ARE AT AND HOW THAT SLICES NOT JUST IN A RACIAL WAY, BUT FOR ALL OTHER YOU KNOW, DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS AND HOW WE CAN ADJUST TO THAT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, RACE IS CERTAINLY A MASSIVE ISSUE THAT GOES TO THE CULTURE AND MUCH OF EVERYTHING ELSE. BUT THERE'S ALSO A NUMBER OF OTHER DETERMINING FACTORS THAT WILL DECIDE WHETHER A STUDENT DOES. DUAL ENROLLMENT IS SUCCESSFUL. AND WE CAN CONTINUE TO GROW OUR PROGRAM. SO THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING. THANK YOU. MAY I? YEAH. FIRST, I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR QUESTION. I WAS GOING TO ASK THAT. THANK YOU FOR THE EXPLANATION. YOU KNOW, SO I WANT TO TELL YOU I WANT TO KNOW WHEN YOU SAY YOU WANT TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DO THAT. I WANT TO TELL YOU, I KNOW THE ASIAN POPULATION. THEY WILL INCREASE MORE OF THE DUAL ENROLLMENT BECAUSE I RECEIVE PHONE CALLS PROBABLY EVERY OTHER WEEK FROM INDIAN PARENTS FROM YOU KNOW, AND FROM VIETNAMESE, CHINESE, CHINESE AND FILIPINO. AND INCREASINGLY, IT WAS NOT LIKE THAT SEVERAL YEARS AGO, BUT STARTING FROM LAST YEAR, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR, PROBABLY EVERY OTHER WEEK I WILL RECEIVE ALL THE PARENTS. SO PANIC. NOW I NEED WE WE WANT TO ENROLL THIS HOW THIS AND THAT. SO I NEED TO KNOW THE STRATEGY. YOU SAY YOU WANT TO INCREASE OTHER RATES. I CERTAINLY AGREE THAT. BUT I HOPE YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DECREASE THE ASIAN ENROLLMENT, BECAUSE THEN HOW DO I SAY TO THESE PARENTS, YOU KNOW, JUST JUST HOPEFULLY YOU CAN FIGURE OUT A WAY AND TO TO MAKE THE, YOU KNOW, ENROLLMENT GROW, BUT MAKE MAKE IT, YOU KNOW, THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TAKE AND BE ABLE TO TAKE THE COURSES. ABSOLUTELY. FOR THE CONTRARY, WE WANT ALL STUDENTS TO COME, 100% OF THEM. YEAH, WELL, AND ALL NINTH GRADERS WOULD BE ALL AS WELL. SO. OKAY. ACROSS THE BOARD. YEAH. SO, SO I'D LIKE TO MAKE AN ASK TO SEE I THINK MAYBE AS BOARD MEMBERS WE CAN HELP. AND I THINK IT'S TIME FOR US TO START HELPING. AND I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR US TO GET PRETTY MUCH ALL THE DATA OF EACH DISTRICT, HOW MANY SCHOOLS AND WHAT CLASSES ARE OFFERED. RIGHT? IF YOU CAN GIVE THAT TO ALL OF US, THAT WAY WE CAN KIND OF LOOK, COMPARE AND SEE IF THERE'S ANY WAY WE CAN MAKE A LITTLE CHANGE OR [01:45:02] EFFORT OR KIND OF, YOU KNOW, MEET WITH PEOPLE OR WHATEVER, WHATEVER THE CASE IS, WHATEVER. YOU KNOW, THE TRUSTEES FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH, BUT I THINK MAYBE HAVING THAT DATA WOULD BE HELPFUL, KIND OF MOVING FORWARD AND SEE IF WE CAN HELP, BECAUSE, YEAH, HAVING I GUESS MY, MY YEAH. I WOULD NEVER WANT TO DECREASE THE ASIAN, YOU KNOW, POPULATION. I'D LIKE TO SEE THE HISPANIC POPULATION GO UP TO THE LEVEL OF THE ASIAN. AND I THINK A LOT HAS TO DO WITH THE BUY IN. RIGHT. SO LIKE PROFESSOR OSAKA, WHICH WAS VERY INSPIRING AND KIND OF GAVE RECHARGE MY BATTERIES FOR LATINO STUDENTS, FIRST GENERATION LIKE MYSELF, YOU KNOW, IT'S LONELY AND THERE'S NO GUIDANCE, RIGHT? SO IF YOU'RE THEY COULD HEAR A PRESENTATION TEN TIMES, BUT IF NO ONE'S REALLY KIND OF PUSHING THEM TO DO IT OR TELLING THEM WHY OR THEY JUST DIDN'T GET IT, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO DO IT. RIGHT. AND WITH THE ASIAN POPULATION, I THINK THEY'RE READY. THEY'RE READY, THEY'RE OPEN. AND IT'S LIKE, OKAY, WHERE DO I GO? RIGHT. AND WITH OUR WITH OUR STUDENT POPULATION IN OUR DISTRICTS, I THINK, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT, LIKE, IT SEEMS LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE TAILORED, RIGHT, PER SCHOOL, PER DISTRICT. AND I AND I THINK WITH OUR LATINO STUDENTS YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY LIKE IN NORWALK, THEY'RE PROBABLY MOSTLY FIRST GENERATION WORKING CLASS. AND WE MIGHT HAVE TO APPROACH IT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY TO SEE THOSE THOSE NUMBERS GO UP BECAUSE THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE THE GUIDANCE. IT MIGHT NOT BE OPEN TO THESE NEW OPPORTUNITIES UNLESS WE REALLY, REALLY TRY TO BE INNOVATIVE AND MAKE THEM SEE THE VALUE IN IT. AND THAT GOES TO THE PARTNERSHIPS AND ALSO WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR K-12 PARTNERS AND HOW THEY REACH INTO THEIR STUDENT POPULATION AND, YOU KNOW, EXPOSE STUDENTS TO THE OPPORTUNITIES BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE CAN INVITE TO OUTREACH EVENTS. BUT TO YOUR POINT, YOU'RE NOT NECESSARILY GOING TO CHOOSE TO GO TO THAT IF YOU DON'T SEE YOURSELF AS SO THE PARTNERSHIPS IS A REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT COMPONENT TO DUAL ENROLLMENT ACROSS THE BOARD. I MEAN, IT REALLY THOSE NUMBERS ARE THE SUCCESS OF THE PARTNERSHIPS OF STUDENT SERVICES AND ONBOARDING THE STUDENTS TO THE FACULTY. I MEAN, THAT'S WHERE THE DUAL ENROLLMENT IS HAPPENING IS IN THE CLASSROOM. AND SO REALLY, IT'S KUDOS TO THE WHOLE CAMPUS BECAUSE THERE ISN'T A PLACE ON THIS CAMPUS THAT ISN'T THAT DOESN'T SERVE OR HAS IT NOT BEEN PART OF THIS EFFORT? AND NOW I DON'T WANT TO GET TOO IN THE WEEDS WITH THIS, BUT IF YOU WERE TO ADJUST BY SIZE, POPULATION SIZE, THE NUMBERS, THE DISCREPANCY THAT YOU'LL SEE THERE IS NOT AS DRASTIC AS WHAT YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN, BECAUSE RIGHT THERE YOU'RE LOOKING STRAIGHT UP PERCENTAGE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF THE POPULATION, MIRRORING THE NUMBER OF THE POPULATION THAT WE SERVE WITHIN THE DISTRICT. BUT WE DO HAVE TO REMEMBER THE 70% OF 800,000 IS A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER VERSUS 12%, I THINK, OF THE SAME 800,000. SO IF WE WERE GOING TO ADJUST BY SIZE, THE DISCREPANCY IS NOT QUITE AS LARGE. SO IT'S NOT THAT WE WANT TO RESTRICT SERVICES. WE ACTUALLY WANT TO OPEN THE DOORS WIDER FOR EVERYONE TO COME. BUT AGAIN, THE THE LESSON IS WHAT WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO MIRROR THE NUMBERS BASED ON OUR POPULATION? AND ONE OF THOSE STEPS, OF COURSE, IS THE PARTNERSHIP. BUT THE OTHER ONE, THE QUEEN AND HER TEAM HAVE BEEN WORKING ACTIVELY. BUT IS A IS A IS A IS A IT'S A TOUGH NUT TO CRACK IS GETTING THE TRUST AND THE CONFIDENCE ON THE PARENTS. SO I THINK TRUSTEE PEREZ COULD LOOK AT SOME OF THESE BECAUSE SHE GOES TO, TO, TO SOME OF THE PARENT ORIENTATIONS. LET'S SAY YOU GO TO A PARTY ORIENTATION IN CERRITOS HIGH IS IT'S A VERY DIFFERENT TURNOUT AND A PARENT ORIENTATION IN NORWALK. SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO BUILD THOSE CONNECTIONS AND PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PARENTS BECAUSE AS A LATINO, I CAN TELL YOU THAT WHEN YOU'RE GROWING UP AND YOU'RE GETTING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE PATTERNS AND, AND AND IF YOU DON'T GET THROUGH THE PATTERNS, IT MAKES IT HARDER TO MAKE THAT TRANSITION. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS IN THE CLASSROOM HAVING TO GO AND MEET WITH THE PARENTS OF STUDENTS THAT I WAS TRYING TO SEND TO DO SOME RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS. IF I DID NOT GET THE BLESSING OF THE FAMILY, NO MATTER HOW BRILLIANT THE STUDENT WAS, STUDENT WASN'T GOING. AND THAT IS A THAT'S A LOT OF WORK THAT HAS GONE INTO THAT, OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING ELSE THAT WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO EXPAND. SOMETHING THAT WE CAN ALSO DO THROUGH THE CITY'S CONVERSATION WE HAVE WITH THE CITY OF HAWAIIAN GARDENS THAT THE CITY COUNCIL PARTNER WITH US TO ACTUALLY CALL THE [01:50:01] FAMILIES, BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT THE PARENTS AND THE ADULTS COME OUT TO A COUNCIL EVENT, AND THOSE ARE EASIER TO TO DO. BUT WE NEED TO OBVIOUSLY EXPAND THE OUTREACH. AND WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT CUTTING SERVICES TO ONE GROUP TO GIVE TO THE OTHER. WE WE ACTUALLY WANT TO EXPAND ALL THOSE SERVICES BECAUSE THE IDEA TRULY SHOULD BE FOR ALL OF THOSE STUDENTS TO EARN, AT THE VERY MINIMUM, THE FIRST 30 UNITS WHILE THEY ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL. BUT SOME OF THEM, CLEARLY, AND WE HAVE DONE IT ALREADY, ARE CAPABLE OF GRADUATING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND CERRITOS COLLEGE AT THE SAME TIME. DOCTOR FARROW, IF I COULD JUST SUGGEST A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, IT WAS PROBABLY WHEN TRUSTEE JOHNNY WALLACE WAS THERE. DO YOU REMEMBER WE DID SOME OF THOSE KIND OF STUDENT TESTIMONIAL VIDEOS, AND IT WAS THE STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT LIKE AB 705 ABBY. 1705 AND SO RIGHT NOW, I THINK IN THE NONPROFIT, COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATION WORLD, RIGHT NOW, THE THING THAT PEOPLE ARE REALLY DOING ARE MICRO GRANTS SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY TO COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO DO OUTREACH OR PROMOTE. SO I'M WONDERING IF WE HAVE SOME MONEY TO MAYBE RECRUIT SOME STUDENT INFLUENCERS AT EACH ONE OF OUR CAMPUSES WHO CAN REALLY WHO HAVE ALREADY PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM, WHO CAN AGAIN SPEAK TO THE LANGUAGE AND THE CULTURE OF EACH ONE OF OUR CAMPUSES THAT WE'RE ALREADY WORKING ON TO REALLY KIND OF PROMOTE THE PROGRAM AND WHAT THEY BENEFIT FROM? I THINK ALSO, I THINK I KNOW YOU KIND OF MENTIONED IT. I KNOW A COUPLE. I THINK IT WAS LAST YEAR I WAS AT WITH COLLEEN, AND WE WERE AT BELLFLOWER HIGH SCHOOL AND THEIR EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM. IT WAS IN SPANISH. IT WAS COMPLETELY TRANSLATED IN SPANISH. MOST OF THE PEOPLE THERE WERE LATINO PARENTS. THEY HAVE A VERY GOOD ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL WHO'S LATINO TOO. SO AGAIN, I THINK GOING TO WHAT, YOU KNOW, DOCTOR SALAZAR SAID IT REALLY DOES FOCUS A LOT ON THE TRUST. SO MAYBE AGAIN, I MEAN, WE CAN MAYBE GET SOME PARENT INFLUENCERS AS WELL TOO, WHO WOULD BE COMFORTABLE DOING SOME SHORT VIDEOS RIGHT NOW. AND AGAIN, LIKE IF THERE'S SOME SORT OF INCENTIVE, YOU KNOW, KIDS WILL DO ALL THE STUFF FOR FREE. BUT AGAIN, LIKE IF YOU HAVE LIKE A $50 GIFT CARD AND I KNOW WE'VE DONE THOSE TYPES OF THINGS IN THE PAST TO REALLY TRY TO GET OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS TO REALLY SELL THE PROGRAM FOR US, BECAUSE THEY'RE THE REALLY THE BEST INFLUENCERS, AND THEY'RE THE ONES WHO OTHER OTHER STUDENTS WILL LISTEN TO. I CAN'T DO THAT. ABSOLUTELY. AND WE JUST WENT TO A CONFERENCE RECENTLY WHERE UP IN MENDOCINO COUNTY, THEY HAVE AMBASSADORS AT EACH ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS. SO A JUNIOR AND A SENIOR THAT HAVE A PERIOD THAT THEY ARE A STUDENT AMBASSADOR TO THEIR HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH. SO THAT IS SOMETHING I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN LOOKING AT. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME. YEAH. PLEASE. YEAH. GO AHEAD. PART OF THE PRESENTATION, A REPORT THAT I WAS GOING TO GIVE INCLUDED THE FACT THAT TOMORROW THE AS PLENARY BEGINS IN COSTA MESA AS A STATEWIDE FACULTY SENATE. AND ONE OF THE SESSIONS THAT I WILL BE ATTENDING. TOMORROW IS DUAL ENROLLMENT WITH INTENTIONALITY. SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. AND I HOPE TO GET A LOT OF INFORMATION AND CONNECTIONS THAT I CAN BRING BACK. AND THEN WITH THAT SAID, I HOPE THAT WE'RE LEVERAGING EVERYTHING THAT WE CAN IN TERMS OF FACULTY, IN TERMS OF RECRUITMENT, TRAINING AND RETENTION FOR FACULTY TO BE PREPARED TO TEACH IN THESE DUAL ENROLLMENT ENVIRONMENTS. AND WE COULD USE OUR CENTER FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE AND AND RESOURCES LIKE OUR LYDIA ALVAREZ, WHO IS THE COORDINATOR THERE. AND I HOPE THAT THE FACULTY SENATE CAN DO EVERYTHING THAT WE CAN TO HELP YOU TO MOVE THE NEEDLE IN THAT REGARD. SO THE FACULTY ARE TOTALLY BEHIND YOU, AND WE DO HAVE A FACULTY LIAISON. WE STARTED THAT THIS SUMMER. AND SO WE DO OFFER ORIENTATION EACH SEMESTER BEFORE THE NEXT ONE BEGINS. BUT I THINK WE'VE JUST SCRATCHED THE SURFACE THERE. AND FINALLY, IN TERMS OF THE CONTINUING ED OR NOT. YEAH. I ATTENDED IN THE 10TH GRADE AFTER I DROPPED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, I WENT TO A CONTINUING ED HIGH SCHOOL. AND IF THERE WAS SOMETHING LIKE THIS, THEN I'M NOT GOING TO SAY I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT. BUT YOU KNOW, IF IT WAS, I MIGHT BE A COLLEGE PRESIDENT NOW INSTEAD OF A FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT. I'M JUST SAYING, THANK YOU FOR THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THAT, ALL OF YOU. THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT. IT WILL REAP REWARDS. IT WILL. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. MORE QUESTION. THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION. GREAT JOB. OKAY. THANK YOU. SO WE MOVE ON TO THE CONSENT ITEMS. [3. Consent Items] [01:55:02] TRUSTEE. PEREZ WANT TO PULL UP 3.41. AND SO, ARE WE GOING TO HAVE MOTION TO APPROVE ALL THE CONSENT ITEMS EXCEPT 3.41? ANYONE HAVE MOTION? SO MOVED. SECOND. ALL RIGHT, SO ANY OBJECTION DO YOU NEED TO DO ROLL CALL? YEAH. SORRY. STUDENT TRUSTEE SCOTT, I TRUSTEE BIRKEY. TRUSTEE GREEN I TRUSTEE LEWIS I TRUSTEE LU I TRUSTEE PACHECO I TRUSTEE PEREZ I TRUSTEE SALAZAR HI AND TRUSTEE BIRKEY. THE MOTION PASSES. ALL RIGHT. SO SO THE TRUSTEE PEREZ DO YOU WANT TO DISCUSS? [3.41 New Academic Management Job Classification and Description for Manager, Justice Scholars - Categorically Funded] 3.41 YOUR QUESTION FOR THAT. YEAH, YEAH, I JUST THINK IT SOUNDS INTERESTING AND EXCITING. SO I WANTED DOCTOR FIERRO TO TALK ABOUT IT. OKAY. SO RECENTLY WE RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AT LOS PADRINOS. SO WE FOR A FEW YEARS, AS YOU KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH DIFFERENT MEMBERS AND PROJECT REBOUND AND SO ON. AND EVENTUALLY THIS CAME UP HARVEY NOW WORKS AT THE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE, AND, AND AS SOON AS THIS CAME UP, HE CONTACTED US. SO WE WERE ABLE TO SUBMIT OUR APPLICATION AND GET THE GRANT AWARDED. SO THIS IS TO BEGIN A PROJECT TO, TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE COLLEGE CLASSES THE DETENTION FACILITY AND THE PERSON THAT WE ARE TRYING TO HIRE IS GOING TO BE PRIMARILY HOUSED AT LOS PADRINOS AND WILL BE THE PERSON INTERFACING WITH THE ADMINISTRATION THERE, ORGANIZING CLASSES, SCHEDULES AND SO ON. AND THEN WE'LL HAVE DAY TO DAY SUPERVISION OF STAFF OR FACULTY THAT WILL END UP DOING WORK THERE. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING THE PROGRAM, SO THERE MAY BE SOME ON GROUND CLASSES. THAT IS AN EXPECTATION TO DO SOME HYBRID AND ONLINE. PROBABLY ONLINE. IT WILL BE HOW WE WILL START. AND AND THE IDEA IS TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE UNABLE TO ACCESS COLLEGE IN A DIFFERENT MANNER WITH THE HOPE IS THAT WE'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE ENOUGH CREDITS IN WHICH THEY ARE ABLE TO EITHER TRANSFER WITH THEIR REQUIRED UNITS TO ENTER AS A SECOND YEAR STUDENTS TO AN INSTITUTION OF THEIR CHOICE, OR TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE ONCE THEY ARE NO LONGER AT LOS PADRINOS. WONDERFUL. IT'S REALLY EXCITING. I KNOW WE'VE WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS IN THE PAST. I KNOW WE'VE SEEN MANY DIFFERENT COLLEGES HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY. SO REALLY EXCITING THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO THAT TOO. ALL RIGHT. SO THANK YOU DOCTOR LIU. I WILL MOVE THE ITEM. ALL RIGHT. SO WE'RE GOING TO MOTION THIS ONE. ANYONE MOTION. OKAY. SECOND. ALL RIGHT. LOCAL STUDENT TRUSTEE. SCOTT. I TRUSTEE BIRKEY. TRUSTEE. GREEN. I TRUSTEE LEWIS I. TRUSTEE LIU I. TRUSTEE PACHECO. I TRUSTEE PEREZ I TRUSTEE SALAZAR I AND I'LL CIRCLE BACK TO TRUSTEE BIRKEY. I THINK YOU'RE ON MUTE. HE'S HAVING TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. THE MOTION PASSES. OKAY, SO WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO INFORMATIONAL INFORMATIONAL ITEMS, I THINK 4.01 IS [4.01 College Coordinating Committee Minutes: October 9, 2023 and October 23, 2023] FOR THE COLLEGE COORDINATE COMMITTEE MEETING. WE'RE GOING TO FILE AND RECEIVE. RIGHT. IN THE SECOND ONE IS A REVISED ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE AND 40, [4.02 Revised Administrative Procedures 4026, 5050 and 5055] 2650 50 AND 5055 ALSO RECEIVE AND FILE. DO WE NEED TO APPROVE? DO WE NEED TO? NO. OKAY. SO WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS. [5.01 Second Reading Revised Board Policy 2432 titled President/Superintendent Succession] AND SO 5.01 IS THE SECOND READING, REVISED BOARD POLICY 2432 TITLED PRESIDENT, SUPERINTENDENT SUCCESSION. AND THIS ONE WE NEED TO ADOPT THE REVISION. [02:00:03] DO WE NEED TO VOTE? OKAY. YEAH. JUST TO REFRESH YOUR MEMORY, THIS IS THE JUST A REVISION OF SAME. WE DIDN'T MAKE ANY ADDITIONAL CHANGES AFTER YOU SAW IT DURING THE FIRST READING ON THE SUCCESSION. IT'S STILL 100% UNDER THE PURVIEW OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. IT DOES JUST SIMPLY PROVIDE YOU THAT ACTION ON THE OPTIONS THAT YOU HAVE. BUT WITH THE CREATION OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT ROLE WHAT THIS POLICY, AGAIN, IS SUGGESTING THE IN THE ABSENCE OF THE PRESIDENT, SUPERINTENDENT, THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT WILL BE THE ACTING PRESIDENT UNLESS OTHERWISE ESTABLISHED BY THE BOARD. IN THE EVENT THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED, BECAUSE, REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT PERMANENT POSITION TO HAVE, BUT SOMETHING THAT THE BOARD ASSIGN AT ANY GIVEN POINT. SO IF THERE IS NO VICE PRESIDENT WITH THE TITLE OF EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT THE ORDER REMAINS IN THE SAME WAY THAT IT WAS BEFORE BEGINNING WITH THE VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, STUDENT SERVICES, BUSINESS SERVICES, HUMAN RESOURCES, AND WHAT TRADITIONALLY HAS BEEN THE MOST SENIOR DEAN AT THE END. BUT ALL OF THIS IS UNDER YOUR PURVIEW, SO OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN'T NO USE ANY OF THESE SUGGESTIONS. SO THIS IS THE POLICY PRESENTED. ALL RIGHT. SO WE'RE GOING TO MOTION TO ADOPT IT. SO MOVED. SECOND. STUDENT TRUSTEE SCOTT I TRUSTEE BIRKEY. I THANK YOU TRUSTEE GREEN I TRUSTEE LEWIS I TRUSTEE LU I TRUSTEE PACHECO I TRUSTEE PEREZ I AND TRUSTEE SALAZAR I THE MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU. WE MOVE ON TO THE REPORT AND COMMENTS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICIAL THAT START FROM THE STUDENT TRUSTEE PLEASE. [6.01 Reports and Comments from District Officials] I HAVE NO COMMENT TODAY. THANK YOU. JOSE RUIZ. I ATTENDED LA MIRADA HALLOWEEN FEST AT NEFF PARK, THE HISTORIC NEFF PARK, WHICH JUST GOT A BRAND NEW RENOVATION. SO IF YOU ALL ARE INTERESTED IN HOW LA MIRADA GOT ON THE NATIONAL MAP FOR BEING THE NATIONAL LARGEST PRODUCER OF OLIVE AND OLIVE OIL. WOW. AND PRIOR TO THAT, CITRUS TOO, FOR WHAT WAS THEN NEFF RANCH BEFORE THE CITY OR ANY SUBURBAN DEVELOPMENT CAME ALONG. FEEL FREE TO LET ME KNOW, AND WE CAN SCHEDULE A LITTLE TOUR. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, I LEAVE. THERE WAS A TASTE OF. SINCE THE LAST TIME THAT I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT DAY THAT WAS. TASTE OF BRAZIL ON NOVEMBER 1ST. AND THAT WAS A TWO WEEK LONG, WHICH I'M VERY GLAD THAT THE CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM YOU KNOW, IN LIGHT OF THE LOTTERY SYSTEM, WHICH WAS FAIRLY NARROW, BUT JUSTIFIABLY SO BEFORE THEY MOVED FORWARD IN HAVING A LOTTERY SYSTEM FOR A TWO WEEK LONG AREA, AND THE TASTE OF BRAZIL DID NOT DISAPPOINT. DESPITE THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF AVAILABILITY, THE FOOD IS STILL SUPERB. ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT. AND I WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE HOW MUCH MORE WE CAN SHOWCASE THAT TO THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WHAT THEY NEED IS RESOURCES. AND THIS IS JUST SOMETHING THAT, YOU KNOW, WHEN I OR MY FATHER OR ANYBODY ELSE THAT WE KNOW POSTS ABOUT YOU KNOW, THE TASTE OF AND HOW MUCH, FIRST OF ALL, HOW MUCH IT COSTS. SECOND OF ALL, HOW DELICIOUS IS IT? DELICIOUS. IT IS IN COMPARISON TO AND PROPORTIONAL TO HOW MUCH IT COSTS. PEOPLE ARE VERY INTERESTED, BELIEVE IT OR NOT. AND SO, YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY IS THIS SOMETHING TO, YOU KNOW, SHOWCASE TO OUR COMMUNITY, BUT TO ALSO USE AS A RECRUITMENT FOR STUDENTS WHO MAY NOT WANT TO NECESSARILY YOU KNOW, GET A DEGREE OR OTHERWISE HAVE A BE A FULL TIME ENROLLED STUDENT. BUT TO SAY, HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT? I THINK IT'S TIME THAT I LEARNED HOW TO REALLY COOK. AND CHEF AMBER, CHEF MICHAEL PIERINI AND ALL THE OTHER MEMBERS OF OUR CULINARY ARTS FACULTY WOULD LOVE TO SHOW THEM, AND PERHAPS ANY MORE IF WE DECIDE TO GROW THE PROGRAM THAT MUCH MORE. SO I'M VERY, VERY GRATEFUL FOR OVER THE YEARS HOW MUCH THIS PROGRAM HAS DEVELOPED AND WHAT OUR INVESTMENT WITH THE [02:05:08] INITIAL MEASURE G BACK IN 2014 HAS DONE FOR CREATING THE SPACE FOR THIS PROGRAM TO FLOURISH AND GROW FAR BEYOND WHAT WAS EVEN IMAGINED JUST TEN YEARS AGO. IT'S INCREDIBLE. SO I LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT SEMESTER WHEN THERE WILL BE MORE OF THOSE. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. DOCTOR SALAZAR. JUST WANTED TO CONGRATULATE AGAIN. PROFESSOR OSAKA. I THINK ALSO TO THANK HIM FOR SHARING THE STORY ABOUT THIS PROGRAM CAME ABOUT BECAUSE I HE'S REALLY GOING TO CHANGE LIVES AND GENERATIONS OF OF OUR STUDENTS. SO IT'S GREAT TO SEE SOMEONE WHO COMPLETED THEIR CAREER, BUT THEN TOOK A SECOND CAREER TO REALLY HELP OUR STUDENTS AND, AND GUIDE THEM. SO AND REALLY TO TAKE ON THE THE PLIGHT OF THE FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT. I THINK THAT'S VERY ADMIRABLE. AND I JUST WANTED TO THANK THEM AND AND THANK HIM FOR SHARING. TRUSTEE GREEN. NO REPORT PER SE. HOWEVER, IT IS A LITTLE LATE, BUT WE DID CELEBRATE VETERANS DAY AND RECENTLY AND I JUST WANT TO THANK THOSE CERRITOS COLLEGE VETERANS WHO DEVOTED THEIR TIME AND THEIR SERVICE TO PROTECTING US. THANK YOU. TRUSTEE. PEREZ. YES. THANK YOU EVERYBODY. THANK YOU. JUST A COUPLE UPDATES. ONE, LAST WEEK, I ATTENDED THE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARD CEREMONY FOR FALL, SO IT WAS REALLY WELL ATTENDED. AND AGAIN, JUST A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO MEET ALL OF OUR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES AND OF COURSE, ALL OF OUR VERY GENEROUS DONORS TO THE FOUNDATION. SO THAT WAS REALLY NICE TO PARTICIPATE IN. ALSO, I THINK IT WAS JUST LAST WEEK. COLLEEN DIDN'T MENTION THAT SHE THAT THEIR GROUP DID THE CERRITOS THE FIRST ONLINE KIND OF OVERVIEW OF CERRITOS COMPLETE FOR THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2024. I THINK AT ONE TIME THEY HAD CLOSE TO 100 PEOPLE ON THE ZOOM, SO I KNOW CHERYL HAS SENT THAT OUT. THE INFORMATION I THINK THE FIRST IN-PERSON ONE IS GOING TO BE IN JANUARY. SO I THINK MAYBE, YOU KNOW, ANDREA AND CHERYL CAN RESEND IT TO US AGAIN, JUST TO GO AHEAD AND HELP SPREAD THE NEWS, ESPECIALLY AFTER THE HOLIDAYS, TO TRY TO GET MORE OF OUR PARENTS AND STUDENTS KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT CERRITOS COMPLETE AND ALL THEIR REQUIREMENTS. ALSO THIS WEEK, TODAY IN MY OTHER JOB TODAY I KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE HEARD ME TALK ABOUT THE WEST SANTA ANA BRANCH, WHICH IS GOING TO BE OUR NEW LIGHT RAIL LINE THAT'S GOING TO BE CONNECTING DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES TO THE PIONEER STATION AND OUR NEIGHBORS, THE CITY OF ARTESIA. WE WERE REALLY LUCKY TO HAVE ONE OF OUR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ACC LEADERS SAGE FRAUSTO, PARTICIPATE ON THE COMMITTEE TO NARROW DOWN THE NAMES. WE HAD A RENAMING EFFORT BECAUSE PEOPLE WERE VERY CONFUSED BY WEST SANTA ANA BRANCH BECAUSE IT DOESN'T GO TO SANTA ANA AND JUST TRYING TO BUILD A CONNECTION, IT ACTUALLY GOES THROUGH ALL SOUTHEAST L.A., THROUGH SELA, GATEWAY CITIES. SO WE WANTED TO LAUNCH A PROGRAM TO RENAME IT. SO SAGE WAS ABLE TO REPRESENT KIND OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION AND THE COLLEGE. SO WE ARE ANNOUNCING WE JUST ANNOUNCED THE TOP 12 NAMES, SO I WILL I'LL SEND IT TO SHERYL AND ANDREA AS WELL TO SEND IT OUT TO EVERYBODY HERE. BECAUSE AGAIN, WE LIKE TO SPREAD THE NEWS AND TRY TO GET MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO VOTE ON WHAT THE LINE SHOULD BE TO REFLECT OUR COMMUNITY. ALSO, I REPRESENTED THE COLLEGE AND DID THE RED RIBBON VOTING FOR DRUG FREE WEEK FOR BELLFLOWER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO GOT A CHANCE TO SPEND ALL DAY GOING TO EVERY SINGLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES IN BELLFLOWER UNIFIED TO SEE ALL OF THE PARENT AND STUDENT PRESENTATIONS ON RED RIBBON. AND THIS YEAR WAS REALLY FOCUSED ON MENTAL HEALTH AND HAVING A DRUG FREE MIND. SO THAT WAS REALLY EXCITING. AND THEN ON THE SAME NOTE I HAD NO IDEA THAT WE HAD A MENTAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE PROGRAM FOR MENTAL HEALTH WORKERS. GOING BACK TO, YOU KNOW, WHAT DOCTOR FIERRO MENTIONED ABOUT SHORTER TERM CREDENTIAL, I TRY TO FOLLOW EVERYBODY'S STUFF ON INSTAGRAM AND CAME ACROSS THIS PROGRAM AND HAVE BEEN COMMUNICATING WITH DOCTOR. I GET WITH JACQUELINE WRIGHT, DOCTOR RONQUILLO ABOUT THIS PROGRAM AND AND AGAIN, JUST REALLY AMAZING THINGS WE'RE DOING, EVEN THOUGH I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR NOW, ALMOST 12 YEARS, EVERY DAY I FIND OUT SOMETHING NEW THAT OUR CERRITOS COLLEGE FACULTY ARE DOING AND ALL THE GREAT JOBS THAT STUDENTS CAN BE EXPOSED TO AND INTERNSHIPS AND, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT CAREERS. BUT YES, WE HAVE A MENTAL HEALTH I GUESS IT'S A 18 UNIT, THREE SEMESTER PROGRAM [02:10:02] THAT GETS YOU INTO A CERTIFICATE TO, AGAIN, TO REALLY TRY TO FILL THE NEED FOR MENTAL HEALTH WORKERS, WHICH IS A HUGE DEMAND. SO IT WAS REALLY EXCITING TO LEARN ABOUT THAT. AGAIN, JUST REALLY THANK YOU, THE FACULTY, FOR EVERYTHING THEY'RE DOING IN THAT EFFORT AS WELL TOO. SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU. TRUSTEE. PACHECO. YES. I ATTENDED THE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS AT DOWNEY, AND I ALSO ATTENDED THE VETERANS CELEBRATION IN DOWNEY AND ALSO JUMPED OVER TO NORWALK AND ATTENDED THEIR CELEBRATION. THEY HAD A GREAT ONE ALSO. AND THAT'S IT FOR ME. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. TRUSTEE. BIRKEY. NO REPORT OTHER THAN I APOLOGIZE THAT I AM CALLING IN REMOTELY FOR THIS MEETING. I'M AT THE HIGHER EDUCATION PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP CONFERENCE IN SAN DIEGO AT THE MOMENT. AND I APPRECIATE THE PRESENTATION TODAY. EXCELLENT. THANK YOU, DOCTOR FIERRO. AND I SAY TRUSTEE GREEN. NO REPORT PER SE, BUT, BUT ACTUALLY, THIS PAST WEEK, WELL, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THE CITY OF BELLFLOWER FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW, AND THEY ARE LOOKING ON IMPLEMENTING AN ARTS DISTRICT. SO OBVIOUSLY THEY REACH OUT TO US AND WE HAVE BEEN PROVIDING SOME ASSISTANCE. AND I'M USING THE ROYAL WE BECAUSE MY JOB WAS TO PICK UP THE PHONE AND CONNECT THE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY KNOW HOW TO DO THIS. SO JAMES MCDEVITT HAS BEEN WORKING QUITE A BIT WITH THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE MAJOR THERE ON SOME OF THE PLANS OF CREATING AN ART DISTRICT. BUT LAST WEEK, WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE SEVERAL OF OUR STUDENTS FOR A PRESENTATION ABOUT THE ART DISTRICT AND GET THE INPUT OF STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE ART PROGRAM RIGHT NOW TO SEE WHAT IT WILL TAKE STUDENTS TO ACTUALLY SET UP THEIR LIVE THERE, AND SO ON TO BEGIN CREATING AN ART DISTRICT. AND THE BEST PART OF THIS WAS THE ALTHOUGH WE WERE INVITED TO BE THERE, THIS PRESENTATION AND THE INFORMATION WAS FULLY DIRECTED TO THE STUDENTS, FOR THE STUDENTS TO PROVIDE THEIR INPUT AND THEIR GUIDANCE, NOT SO MUCH. THE ADULTS STUDENTS WERE FANTASTIC, PROVIDED GREAT IDEAS, AND OBVIOUSLY VERY EXCITED ABOUT SEEING THIS COME TO FRUITION. THIS IS SOMETHING THE THE IS VERY SPECIAL TO ME AND OBVIOUSLY TO THE ART COMMUNITY BECAUSE IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE TALKED ABOUT DURING MY INTERVIEW. I REMEMBER LISA VITALE ASKING ME A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ART AND HOW WILL WE DO THAT? AND WE HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENTS IN ENSURING THAT WE BECOME AN ART HUB FOR OUR COMMUNITY. AND OBVIOUSLY, THE CITY IS REACHING OUT TO TO US FOR OUR ADVICE OF HOW TO DO THAT IS IT'S A GREAT TESTAMENT OF THE WORK THAT IS TAKING PLACE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. FROM FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP WAS FANTASTIC. LYNN WAS THERE TO PRESENT A SCHOLARSHIP. I'M PROUD TO BE ASIAN, NOT UNDESERVED. NOT OVERSERVED. I'M SORRY. BUT IT WAS A FANTASTIC EVENT. THE FOOD WAS GREAT AS USUAL, BUT BUT IT WAS REALLY GREAT TO SEE PARENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES THERE. IT'S ALWAYS REALLY NICE WHEN THE STUDENTS BRING THEIR FAMILIES TO CAMPUS. SO A VERY SPECIAL NIGHT FOR EVERYONE. LAST BUT NOT LEAST BIG, HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE STAFF IN THE VRC. FOR THE EVENTS OF VETERANS DAY. WE WE CELEBRATED A VETERANS WEEK. AND EVERY SINGLE DAY WE HAD EVENTS THERE AND WELL ATTENDED. GREAT FUN. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY MRS MEALS READY TO EAT. SO THE RATIONS THEY, THEY GET IN THE FIELD AND THEY ARE ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD. SO IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY THEM DO IT IF THERE'S NOT SOMETHING ELSE. BUT NO, SERIOUSLY, THEY'RE PRETTY GOOD. AND IF YOU LOOK ONLINE AND GOOGLE, YOU CAN ACTUALLY FIND A WAY TO MAKE THOSE MEALS AT HOME. LIKE YOU GET THE MEAL, YOU PACKAGE IT AND YOU FIX IT AT HOME IN DIFFERENT MANNERS. GOURMET STYLE. SO THERE THERE ARE A COUPLE OF YOUTUBERS THAT USE THAT TO SHOW HOW YOU CAN MAKE REALLY GOOD MEALS OUT OF THE MRS. BUT BUT IT WAS A GREAT, GREAT, FUN EVENT. SO THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. THEY PUT THE EVENT TOGETHER FOR OUR STUDENTS. THAT'S IT. OKAY. NO REPORT. JUST WISH EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING. NEXT WEEK WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE CLOSED SECTION. [7. Closed Session] [02:15:04] AND THOSE ON ONLY ONE ITEM. DO WE NEED TO. NO, NO. OKAY, SO THAT END UP OPEN SECTION. HAVE A SAFE DRIVE. OKAY. THANK YOU. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
