[1.04 Comments from the Audience]

WE HAVE TWO COMMENTS.

FIRST ONE IS.

JEREMY WILSON.

AND WE'LL DO AN INTRO, RIGHT? YEAH, GO AHEAD.

PUSH THIS BUTTON. OH, THERE WE GO.

WE'RE IN. WE'RE LIVE.

SO MY NAME IS JEROME WILSON.

WELL, FIRST OF ALL, GOOD EVENING.

PRESIDENT LIU AND THE BOARD MEMBERS AND MEMBERS HERE ARE IN COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

MY NAME IS JEROME WILSON.

I'M THE LABOR RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE FOR CSA.

ULTIMATELY, I JUST WANTED TO COME AND INTRODUCE MYSELF.

THE FEW TIMES THAT I CAME, I WAS OUT IN THE QUAD AND IT WAS JUST A WEIRD DYNAMIC THERE, BUT I JUST WANTED TO INTRODUCE MYSELF IN THE EVENT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE IN COMMUNICATION AS SUCH, OR I NEED TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOU.

YOU HAVE MY FACE, MY NAME.

I ALSO, WHILE I'M UP HERE, WANTED TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM.

THAT'S SO AWESOME. I CAN HEAR WHILE I'M I CAN HEAR FROM THEM WHILE I'M SITTING THERE THAT IT APPEARS THAT THEY'VE WON SOMETHING.

I DON'T KNOW, BUT I'M SURE I'M GOING TO FIND OUT.

BUT I THINK THAT THAT'S VERY AWESOME AND I JUST WANT TO CONGRATULATE THEM AND IT'S FAIRLY IT.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

I APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU FOR THE INTRODUCTION.

ALL RIGHT. OUR SECOND COMMENT IS FROM JAY YAKUZA.

THANK YOU, SIR.

OH. OH, LOOK IS.

UH, GOOD EVENING. I'M ACTUALLY NOT GOING TO DO THE SPEAKING PEOPLE FROM THE STUDENTS THAT WENT TO THE PBL CONFERENCE OR THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO. UH HUH.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO.

PRESENT TESTING.

THAT'S GOOD. ALL RIGHT.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD. MY NAME IS JASON PERALTA.

I'M THE PRESIDENT FOR CERRITOS COLLEGE FOR FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA.

AND WE ACTUALLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO OUT TO A JUNE 21ST WITH A 26 YEAR OLD OUT OF GEORGIA TO GO COMPETE AT FOREST EXPLOITATION OUT IN ATLANTA.

AND IT WAS A NATIONAL CONFERENCE.

IT WAS A GOOD THING.

I KIND OF WANT TO COME BACK TO YOU GUYS AND JUST KIND OF REPORT WHAT WE DID OVER THERE.

SO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE PROVIDED AN UNPARALLELED OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE AND PROUDLY REPRESENT CERRITOS COLLEGE ON A GRAND SCALE.

THERE WAS OVER I BELIEVE THERE WAS OVER A THOUSAND ACTUALLY COLLEGIATE STUDENTS AND OVER LIKE 14,000 HIGH SCHOOLERS THAT ACTUALLY ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE.

SO YOU JUST IMAGINE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE THERE IN ATLANTA.

IT WAS A IT WAS A CHANCE TO SHOW, TO SHOWCASE OUR SKILLS, BUT NOT ONLY BUT ALSO A IT WAS A INVALUABLE PLATFORM FOR NETWORKING WITH TOP TIER PROFESSIONALS.

THROUGHOUT THE EVENT, WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING INDIVIDUALS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS ACROSS THE NATION, SPANNING FROM RANGES FROM FINANCE ALL THE WAY TO SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT.

[00:05:07]

ENGAGING WITH THESE.

ENGAGING WITH THESE STUDENTS ACTUALLY WAS WE WERE ABLE TO NETWORK A BUNCH.

SO I GOT WE ARE ABLE TO NETWORK WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE PLACES AND WE WERE ABLE TO CONNECT THROUGH LINKEDIN, WHICH IS A GOOD THING.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE CONFERENCE WAS PARTICIPATING IN THE TRANSPORTATION, WHICH WE PRIMARILY WENT FOR, BUT FORTUNATELY WE WERE ABLE TO PLACE IN THE TOP TEN, WHICH KIND OF LIKE WAS KIND OF LIKE HURT, ESPECIALLY WITH TRAVEL THAT FAR AWAY AND COMPETED AND WE WERE ABLE TO COMPETE.

WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO TOP TEN.

BUT OVERALL IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

WE LEARNED A LOT, ESPECIALLY AS A TEAM.

WE LEARNED A LOT COMPETING IN A BIG SCALE AND A BIG PLATFORM.

BUT TOGETHER WE DEMONSTRATED OUR SKILLS IN SALES, PUBLIC SPEAKING, LEADERSHIP AND LEAVING A LAST IMPRESSION TO OUR ACTUAL JUDGES THAT ACTUALLY WERE RECEIVING OUR PRESENTATION.

THE CONFERENCE EXPERIENCE WAS TRULY A TRANSFER, TRULY TRANSFORMED THE WAY WE OPEN OUR EYES AND THE WAY WE NETWORK WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

AND IT HELPED EQUIP ME WITH CENTRAL SKILLS, EMPOWER ME TO DEVELOP AND CONNECT AT THE HIGHEST, THE HIGHEST LEVEL, WHICH IS THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE.

I'LL PASS IT ON TO BARBARA.

CONGRATS. THANK YOU.

HELLO. GOOD EVENING, BOARD MEMBERS.

MY NAME IS BARBARA VIVANCO.

I AM ONE OF THE TWO CALIFORNIA STATE OFFICERS THAT ATTENDED NATIONALS IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA.

IT WAS AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND MY FIRST NATIONALS AS A STATE OFFICER.

I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM HOW SUCCESS CAN BE VIEWED DIFFERENTLY TO LEARNING ABOUT HOW REAL ESTATE WORKS.

WITH THE EXTRA TIME THAT WE HAD, WE ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF ATLANTA.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS AND FOUNDATION MEMBERS WHO HELPED, WHO HELPED ME IN A HANDFUL OF MEMBERS HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME.

I AM BEYOND GRATEFUL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT FOR.

UH, AND FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, I SPEAK FOR EVERYBODY HERE.

WE THANK YOU SO MUCH.

NOW PASS IT ON TO ADRIAN.

SO. YEAH.

OKAY. HELLO, MY NAME IS ADRIAN JIMENEZ, AND FROM THE NATIONAL TRIP, I JUST LEARNED TO USE THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THAT THE CERRITOS COLLEGE OFFERS ME.

I LEARNED HOW TO USE MY EXPERIENCE FROM FBLA, ACTUALLY, ONTO MY RESUME TO HELP SELL MYSELF.

AND FINALLY, I LEARNED HOW TO CONDUCT MYSELF IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY THAT WE THAT YOU GUYS GAVE US.

I WASN'T PLANNING ON SPEAKING, BUT ON BEHALF OF THE STUDENTS, VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT AND HELP THAT WE GOT TO MAKE THIS TRIP REAL.

WE DID A TRIP REPORT JUST LIKE ANY BUSINESSPERSON WOULD, AND WE FORWARDED THAT TO DR.

FIERRO AND ALSO TO FELIPE LOPEZ.

AND I ESPECIALLY WANT TO THANK FELIPE, WHO GOT $5,000 FROM VENDORS TO HELP FUND THIS TRIP.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MRS MR..

LOPEZ WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT AND WE HOPE THAT YOU CONTINUE TO SPONSOR THESE TYPE OF EVENTS BECAUSE IT'S VERY INFORMATIVE FOR US, NOT FOR ME NECESSARILY, BUT FOR THE STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, AND THEY CAN ENGAGE IN HOW BUSINESS ACTUALLY WORKS AND HOPEFULLY IT'LL HELP THEM IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS, ESPECIALLY IN THE BUSINESS CAREER.

AND HOPEFULLY ONE OF THEM WILL BE A CEO OF A BIG CORPORATION.

AND IF THEY DO, I'M GOING TO ASK THEM FOR A JOB.

THANK YOU. CONGRATS AGAIN. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH AND CONGRATULATIONS.

AND WE HAVE SOME OF YOUR PICTURES.

IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT ME TO PASS? ONE? EVERY ONE. OKAY.

YEAH, WE SHOULD.

WE HAVE A PICTURE WITH YOU? YEAH, RIGHT HERE.

DO THIS FOR SOME OF.

FINE.

HOW DO WE DO THIS? YOU LIKE SOMEBODY? YEAH. WE THOUGHT YOU GOT TO GET IN HERE, TOO.

YEAH. I THINK YOU MIGHT.

GET EVERYBODY. OKAY, COOL.

[00:10:10]

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. GOOD JOB, GUYS.

GOOD TO SEE YOU. YEAH, NO PROBLEM.

YOU GUYS COME BACK WITH US.

COME BACK TO YOU. THE SOUTHERN DRAWL.

ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE ANOTHER COMMENT FROM OUR EMPLOYEE, AVA ACOSTA, ABOUT THE CAMPUS DYNAMIC.

AVA. YEAH.

DID YOU GET DID YOU GET THAT PICTURE? OKAY. YOU CAN HAVE. GOOD EVENING.

BOARD OF TRUSTEE MEMBERS.

MM. THIS IS THE LIGHT FALCON BLUE.

IT IS NOW.

BOOM. HOW'S THAT? LOVE IT. I AM READING A PREPARED STATEMENT BECAUSE I JUST WANTED TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION.

AND I AM SPEAKING TO YOU ALL TODAY BECAUSE IN MY OPINION, CERRITOS COLLEGE IS A DYNAMIC INSTITUTION POWERED BY MANY INDIVIDUALS, CONTRIBUTING TO THE SUCCESS OF STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF, CLASSIFIED AND EXECUTIVE IN EACH STUDENT'S PURSUIT OF HIGHER EDUCATION.

THERE IS A NUANCE HERE THAT COMES FROM THE FAMILIAR, AND FOR MANY THAT CHANGED WHEN THE CAMPUS WENT REMOTE.

SOME OF US THRIVED, WHILE OTHERS, LIKE MYSELF, STRUGGLED TO MANAGE MULTIPLE NEW WAYS OF OFFERING UNINTERRUPTED SERVICES.

I THINK MOST EVERYONE MANAGED A CERRITOS COLLEGE WAS AND IS AND FULLY FUNCTIONING IN AN IN OUR GRADUATED RETURN TO CAMPUS.

EACH SEMESTER OFFERS MORE ENTHUSIASM AT BEING PRESENT.

WITH THIS IN MIND, I AM ALARMED BY A TREND WHERE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ARE BEING DISCIPLINED RATHER THAN COUNSELED IN WHAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE AN OPERATIONAL BEHAVIOR OR PARTICULAR APTITUDE OF AN ACQUIRED SKILL.

CERRITOS COLLEGE HAS HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE WHEN IT COMES TO MANAGING EMPLOYEES.

MANAGERS ARE AT LIBERTY TO MANAGE AS THEY AS THEY LIKE, WHILE EMPLOYEES ADHERE TO A SET OF STANDARDS.

THE STANDARDS HAVE CHANGED AT A FRENETIC PACE AS TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES OCCUR ALMOST DAILY, AND IT IS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO FULLY COMPREHEND WHY MANAGERS WERE PROVIDED A ONE DAY DISCIPLINE TRAINING IF NOT TO ENCOURAGE THIS TREND.

OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS HAVE REACHED OUT TO ME TO DISCUSS THEIR CONCERNS ABOUT THE CHANGING CULTURE HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE, THERE HAVE BEEN INSTANCES OF SPEAKING DOWN TO EMPLOYEES WITH AN UNDERTONE INDICATING A LACK OF RESPECT FOR THE EXPERTISE AND HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE OF CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES.

THERE ARE SOME WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE TO THE POINT OF FEAR AND DISCOMFORT, CAUSING AN UNEASINESS IN AN OFFICE, OR WORSE, FORCING THEM TO QUESTION THEMSELVES AND ERODING THEIR SELF CONFIDENCE.

SPEAKING AS AN ACTIVE AND ENGAGED PARTICIPANT IN THE CERRITOS COLLEGE CARING CAMPUS INITIATIVE, I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO ACCEPT THAT THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE TO A BEHAVIORAL CONCERN IS DISCIPLINE.

THERE IS NOT ONE STUDENT FOR WHOM I WOULD NOT DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO MAKE THEIR TIME HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE MEMORABLE, ONE THAT GOES WITH THEM WHEN THEY TRANSFER TO ANOTHER INSTITUTION OR BECOME GAINFULLY EMPLOYED.

CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ARE THE DISTRICT'S MOST VALUABLE ASSET, NOT CAPITAL.

IN HER MOST RECENT CAMPUS WIDE MESSAGE, VP MERCEDES GUTIERREZ REFERRED TO CLASSIFIED AS OUR MOST VALUED EMPLOYEES.

EVERY ADVANTAGE AT CERRITOS FAVORS MANAGEMENT, AND I AM HAPPY AND PLEASED TO BE PART OF THIS CAMPUS.

IT IS DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND THAT SO MANY INDIVIDUALS WITH AN EDUCATION FAR BEYOND MOST ARE NOT ABLE TO CONVEY AND ENCOURAGE EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT WITH COURTESY, KINDNESS, RESPECT AND SUPPORT FOR EMPLOYEE SUCCESS.

CERRITOS COLLEGE IS A SUPERIOR CAMPUS AND THE SERVICES WE OFFER OUR STUDENTS SUPPORTS THEM TO DO THEIR BEST TO ACHIEVE A BETTER FUTURE FOR THEMSELVES.

AND WE ARE THE DISTRICT'S FRONTLINE WORKERS.

I ASK YOU TO PLEASE DO US THE COURTESY OF KEEPING THAT IN MIND.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE REPORTS AND COMMENTS FROM CONSTITUENT CONSTITUENT GROUPS.

[1.05 Reports and Comments from Constituent Groups]

WE START FROM DENNIS FALCON, FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT.

HE'S IN ZOOM, RIGHT.

HI, DENNIS. HI.

GOOD MORNING. GOOD EVENING.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY.

UM, HONORABLE BOARD MEMBERS, MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, COLLEAGUES, UH, EVERYBODY THAT'S PRESENT IN THIS MEETING TODAY AM JOINING YOU FROM BEAUTIFUL LA JOLLA, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, WHERE I HAVE ACCOMPANIED A RELATIVELY KNOW A TREMENDOUS TEAM FROM CERRITOS COLLEGE, INCLUDING MY COLLEAGUE LYNN WANG, AND OBVIOUSLY OUR NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, FRANK

[00:15:04]

MIXON, AND ROBIN BRAMMER AND A NUMBER OF OTHERS.

SO IF I DIDN'T MENTION YOU, I'M SORRY, BUT WE WILL BE RETURNING, I BELIEVE, TOMORROW AND INTO THE WEEK.

AND WE ARE ATTENDING THE ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT ACADEMY AT UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO.

AND OVER THE LAST THREE DAYS, UH, I THINK EVERYBODY WILL SHARE THAT WE HAVE LEARNED MORE AND WORKED SO CLOSELY TOGETHER THAT I KNOW WE WILL COME BACK AND WE WILL BRING ALL THAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND EXPERTISE TO MANY OF THE CHALLENGES THAT ARE FACING US IN THE MONTHS AND YEARS AHEAD. SO I DON'T HAVE MUCH ELSE TO REPORT GIVEN IT'S SUMMER.

I'M HAPPY TO SEE MY COLLEAGUES FINALLY TURN ON THEIR CAMERAS.

LYNN AND FRANK JUST JUST LEFT FRANK DOWN IN THE DINING ROOM.

SO BUT IT WAS AN AMAZING CONFERENCE SO FAR.

I'M SURE. I'M SURE WE'RE GOING TO HEAR MORE ABOUT IT.

WE'RE GOING TO WRAP UP TOMORROW MORNING.

AND I CAN'T WAIT TO BRING ALL THIS BACK TO THE TO THE CAMPUS IN GENERAL.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU, LYNN.

YOU ALSO IN THAT CONFERENCE, RIGHT, DR.

LYNN WHEN IS REPORTING LIVE FROM UC SAN DIEGO AS WELL.

YEAH. SO REALLY IN TERMS OF CCF, WE JUST LIKE TO THINK BUSINESS SERVICE AND HUMAN RESOURCES FOR PROCESSING OUR COLA INCREASES.

AND TO MY MEMORY, YOU KNOW, I FEEL LIKE THIS MIGHT BE THE FIRST TIME THAT WE'RE NOT WAITING FOR A RETRO CHECK, SO THIS IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

FURTHERMORE, WE ALSO WANT TO THANK HUMAN RESOURCES FOR PROCESSING AND ONBOARDING OVER 20 PLUS NEW FULL TIME HIRES, FULL TIME FACULTY. SO WE'RE REALLY JUST REALLY EXCITED TO WELCOME AN ADDITIONAL 20 PLUS NEW COHORT OF FACULTY.

AND THAT IS IT. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

SO CSC PRESIDENT ERLINDA LOPEZ.

THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING.

I JUST WANT TO, YOU KNOW, ECHO THE SAME THINGS I'VE SAID BEFORE.

YOU KNOW, WE LOVE BEING A PART OF OUR INSTITUTION AS CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES.

WE LOVE THE TRAINING AVAILABLE TO US AND AFFORDED TO US IN ORDER FOR US TO NOT ONLY BE ACTIVE MEMBERS OF OUR INSTITUTION, BUT ALSO TO THRIVE.

RIGHT. NOT TO STEAL KAISER'S LOGO, BUT WE DO WANT TO THRIVE HERE.

WE DO WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THAT WITH OUR WHOLE CAMPUS COMMUNITY.

SO, YOU KNOW, I DO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I THINK TWO BOARD MEETINGS AGO THANK HUMAN RESOURCES FOR SOME OF THEIR OUTREACH AND OUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH.

AND WE HOPE TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THAT AS WE MOVE FORWARD, AS WE CONTINUE TO GAIN NEW CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO TO GROW AND THRIVE HERE AT INSTITUTION.

UM, JUST WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO OUR ADMISSIONS AND RECORDS TEAM AS THEY ARE COMING DOWN TO THE END OF THE SUMMER SESSION.

THEY'RE GOING TO BE PRODUCING AND PROCESSING A LOT OF OUR CERTIFICATES AND OBVIOUSLY WE NEED THOSE CERTIFICATES IN ORDER FOR OUR FUNDING AND ALSO HOPEFULLY TO WORK TOWARD THAT ASPEN AWARD.

SO, YOU KNOW, THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF THE THINGS THAT OUR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES DO IN THE BACKGROUND.

BUT ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS THAT HELP OUR INSTITUTION SUCCEED AND ALSO CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR RETIREMENTS HERE.

THEY WILL BE ACKNOWLEDGED IN A BIT.

I DO WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE VICTORIA STEPHENS.

SHE WILL BE RETIRING EVEN THOUGH SHE'S NOT HERE.

SHE SHOULD BE ACKNOWLEDGED FOR HER YEARS OF SERVICE.

AND I DO WANT TO, YOU KNOW, CONGRATULATE HER FOR HER DEDICATION TO OUR INSTITUTION AND KNOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE THE SERVICE SHE PROVIDED TO OUR CAMPUS AND TO.

O'BRIEN YOU KNOW, AND, YOU KNOW, ALLOW YOU GUYS TO HAVE A NEW CHAPTER IN YOUR LIFE, WHICH I'M NOT THERE YET AND I'M VERY, VERY JEALOUS OF.

SO BUT THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE SECOND SECTION IS OPEN SESSION AGENDA.

THE FIRST ONE IS THE INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATION INAUGURAL WOMEN WRESTLING TEAM AND COACHES.

[2.01 Institutional Presentation: Inaugural Women's Wrestling Team and Coaches]

SO, DR.

VIEIRA. THANK YOU, DR.

LOU. AND TONIGHT, WE HAVE SOME SPECIAL GUESTS THAT ARE FROM OUR WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM AND OUR COACHES.

THIS IS THE FIRST FORMAL YEAR OF OUR WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM.

AND THEY SET A VERY HIGH BAR BECAUSE THEY ARE THE CURRENT CHAMPIONS.

SO WE JUST WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE NOT JUST THE COACHING STAFF, BUT ALL OF OUR ATHLETES.

I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE A FEW OF YOU IN ACTION DURING THE TOURNAMENT WAS HOSTED HERE.

AND YEAH, I DIDN'T WANT TO BE IN THE MUD WITH ANY OF YOU.

[00:20:01]

SO GREAT, GREAT JOB.

SO WE WANT TO SHOW OUR APPRECIATION, TELL YOU THAT WE'RE VERY PROUD OF YOU AND THE WORK THAT YOU HAVE DONE.

THANK YOU TO THE COACHES.

I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN A GINORMOUS EFFORT TO TO MAKE THE TEAM SUCCEED AT THIS LEVEL ON THE FIRST YEAR.

SO FANTASTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT.

THE ONLY DOWNSIDE OF THAT IS THAT OBVIOUSLY THAT NOW THERE IS AN EXPECTATION THAT YOU DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

SO WE'LL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CELEBRATION NEXT YEAR.

SO I'D LIKE TO GIVE THE MICROPHONE TO OUR HEAD COACH TO SHOWCASE THE TROPHY AND TO GIVE US A FEW WORDS OF MARCUS. GOOD EVENING.

FOR STARTERS, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING THE SWAGIT COLLEGE WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM FOR THIS AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT.

SECONDLY, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN WOMEN'S WRESTLING AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THESE WOMEN TO NOT ONLY SUCCEED ACADEMICALLY BUT ATHLETICALLY AS WELL.

SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO DR.

FIERRO AND THE BOARD MEMBERS.

AND WE JUST WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

AND WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.

AND AGAIN, YES, WE DO GOT THAT CHIP ON OUR SHOULDER AND WE'RE LOOKING TO GET THE NEXT ONE.

YEAH, YEAH. YOU TAKE SOME PHOTOS WITH THAT REALLY PRETTY TROPHY? YEAH. AND THE MEMBERS.

I THINK WE NEED A TEAM UP THERE TOO.

YOU GUYS WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE? YEAH. ALL OF YOU CAN PROBABLY DO IT DOWN THE MIDDLE THAT WAY.

ACTUALLY, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO.

THIS IS NOT THEIR FIRST PHOTO WITH THAT TROPHY.

MAYBE THE SECOND ONE. YEAH.

YOU GUYS ARE DEFINITELY MORE ATHLETIC THAN WE ARE.

SO MAYBE WE'LL DO THIS ONE.

I THINK YOU VOLUNTEERED US.

SHE'S VERY FIT. YOU GUYS SOUND LIKE MINE. ARE.

THANK YOU, GUYS. ARE WE EVEN? I FEEL LIKE WE'RE LOPSIDED.

WHERE WE ALL QUIET.

CONGRATULATIONS. CONGRATULATIONS.

OH, SORRY.

GOOD JOB, GUYS.

I'M GLAD. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. WHAT'S THE OLD SAYING? LIKE WE USED TO HAVE THE.

USED TO BE THE ONE WHO'S GOING AFTER THE CHICKEN.

THEY WERE THE TARGET. I TELL THEM EVERY DAY.

I SAID, LOOK, WE WERE STATE CHAMPIONS LAST YEAR.

NOBODY'S A STATE CHAMPION THIS YEAR.

IT'S ALL ABOUT PERSPECTIVE, RIGHT? OH, I'M SO SCARED.

CONGRATULATIONS, GUYS.

OH. THE FIRST OF MANY MORE.

SO CONGRATS AGAIN.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. SO NEXT, WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNITION OF OUR RETIREE

[2.02 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of Retiree]

BRIAN LITTLE LEADER AND IS THE LEAD GROUND KEEPER.

IT WILL BE PRESENTED BY DR.

REBECCA ROBINSON.

DR. LEWIS TOLD BRIAN APPARENTLY IS NOT ALLOWED TO RETIRE.

I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS MORNING.

SO I GUESS WE HAVE TO POSTPONE THE ITEM.

YEAH. YOU GOING OVER THERE? SIR, I DO.

VERY MUCH ANYMORE. WE GOT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.

YOU CAN'T. YOU CAN'T LEAVE THAT QUICK.

I GOT TWO MORE DAYS. AND LOOK AT THAT SMILE.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD MEMBERS AND DR.

PIERRO ALL THAT ARE PRESENT.

I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF RECOGNIZING OUR GREAT GROUNDS LEAD.

BRIAN HAS BEEN WITH.

HE IS THE EPITOME OF A CERRITOS COLLEGE EMPLOYEE AND I'M GOING TO TELL YOU WHY.

BRIAN STARTED AS A STUDENT EMPLOYEE WHILE HE WAS ON THE TRACK TEAM HERE.

[00:25:04]

WOW. 40 YEARS AGO.

NO, 40, 45 YEARS AGO, HE CORRECTED.

THERE YOU GO. HE THEN MOVED OVER TO AN HOURLY FOR TWO YEARS.

SO OUR HOURLY PROGRAM DOES WORK.

SO, YES, HE WAS AN HOURLY FOR TWO YEARS.

HE GAINED FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT AS A GROUNDSKEEPER AND FRIENDS AND HAS JUST BEEN TOO MANY YEARS THAT HE'S BEEN GROUNDS LEE THAT HE CAN'T REMEMBER HOW LONG IT'S BEEN.

BUT BRIAN HAS BROUGHT A LOT OF JOY, NOT ONLY TO THE GROUNDS AND FACILITIES TEAM, BUT TO THE CAMPUS.

AS DR. PIERRO SAID, THAT SMILE.

I HAD A FEW OF OUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE I'VE ONLY BEEN HERE A FEW MONTHS AND IT'S BEEN MY HONOR AND PRIVILEGE TO BE WORKING WITH BRIAN.

BUT SOME OF HIS COLLEAGUES HAD GIVEN ME SOME WORDS TO SHARE, AND ONE OF ACTUALLY A FEW OF THEM STATED THAT SMILE THAT YOU MENTIONED TO DR.

PIERRO, SHARON PLUMP HAD SAID THAT WHEN SHE HAD HER INTERVIEW, THAT WAS THE ONE THING THAT SHE REMEMBERED WAS BRIAN'S BIG SMILE AND THAT JUST MADE HER FEEL WELCOME. BRIAN HAS A SAYING TO EVERYONE WHEN HE COMES THROUGH THE OFFICE OR OUT OR OUT, HE TELLS EVERYBODY, THANK YOU FOR SHOWING UP TODAY.

SO WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR SHOWING UP FOR THESE 45 YEARS AND BEING A HARD WORKER AND AN EMPLOYEE OF CERRITOS.

NOT ONLY IS HE JUST A HARD WORKER, BUT HE ALSO COACHES TRACK IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS AND BRIAN HAS JUST AN AFFECTION FOR HELPING THE STUDENTS HERE ON CAMPUS.

IF HE SEES A STUDENT WANDERING OR UP AT THE MAP, BRIAN WILL STOP AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE.

WELL VERSED IN HOW TO GET TO WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO GO OR IF AND IF THEY'RE LOST AND THEY LOOK LOST, BRIAN WILL STOP AND JUST CHEER THEM UP AND SAY, HEY, HERE, LET ME LET ME HELP YOU OUT.

SO BRIAN DOES REACH OUT AND HE'S A TRUE TEACHER IN THAT ASPECT.

HE'LL TELL YOU THAT HE'S LOOKING FORWARD TO HIS NEXT FEW DAYS AS AN EMPLOYEE HERE, BUT MORE SO TO HIS RETIREMENT AND ON TO TO HIS ENJOYMENT OUT IN TRACK WORLD LEISURE, WORLD HIKING, WHATEVER HE'S GOING TO BE DOING.

HE IS. HE'S HAD FUN HERE AND HE'S ASSISTED WITH ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. BUT WE ARE GOING TO MISS HIM.

AND I KNOW I AM, BECAUSE HE HAS BROUGHT A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE AND GIVEN A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE.

BUT WE DO TRULY, TRULY RESPECT ALL OF THE HARD WORK, BRIAN, THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED TO THE FACILITIES TEAM.

SO THANK YOU.

KNOW, YOU GOT TO TAKE A PICTURE WHEN I SAY SOMETHING, RIGHT? I WANT TO SAY SOMETHING. YOU DON'T HAVE TO, BUT IF YOU WANT TO.

NO, BECAUSE I TALK TOO MUCH.

THAT'S. THAT'S ONE OF MY WORST FAULTS.

GOSH, I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING HERE.

I STARTED AS SHE SAID.

I RAN CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK HERE.

AND COACH KOMANSKI ALSO HIRED ME IN AS A STUDENT WORKER WHEN THAT RAN OUT.

THEN I WORKED IN THE PHYSICS LAB BECAUSE I WAS AN ENGINEERING MAJOR, AND THEN I GOT HIRED IN AS A PART TIME WORKER.

WHEN THERE WAS BREAKS IN MY SCHEDULE, I'D WORK ON HOLIDAYS AND WHATNOT TO TRY TO MAKE ENDS MEET.

AND THEN, YOU KNOW, THINGS FELL APART AT HOME AND THEN NEEDED A FULL TIME JOB.

AND I GOT HIRED WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF ABSOLUTE NEED.

AND IT WAS AMAZING.

AND I WENT MOSTLY ATHLETIC AREAS AND WAS INVOLVED WITH THE PROGRAM HERE.

I ASSISTED CROSS COUNTRY.

I ASSISTED WITH THE TRACK TEAM, I ASSISTED WITH THE VOLLEYBALL TEAM, WITH JANINE PRINDLE FOR YEARS AND I HAVE BEEN CLUB ADVISORS.

I'VE BEEN A PANHELLENIC ADVISOR OF THE YEAR WHEN WE HAD FRATERNITIES ONE YEAR, JUST SO MUCH INVOLVEMENT WITH THE COLLEGE AND MY FIVE YEAR PLAN ENDED UP BEING 40 YEARS BECAUSE NOT JUST WORK.

IT WAS FUN AND IT'S A FAMILY.

AND I KNOW I LOOK AT YOU AND I DON'T KNOW MOST OF YOU, BUT I'VE KNOWN, WHAT, SEVEN PRESIDENTS, NINE DIRECTORS AND SEVEN MANAGERS FROM MY DEPARTMENT.

AND I WOULD SAY I'M STILL HERE, BUT I'M ONLY TWO MORE DAYS STILL HERE.

BUT IT'S BEEN IT'S BEEN FUN AND IT'S BEEN IT MADE MY LIFE.

I MEAN, IT'S WHAT CAN I SAY? I'M STILL COACHING AT GA.

IT'S MY 31ST YEAR AT GA COACHING CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK OVER THERE AND WE HAD PRACTICE AT 3:00 TODAY.

SO I HAD EVEN BEEN HOME SINCE 530 THIS MORNING.

SO I CAME FROM THERE BACK OVER HERE.

SO BUT ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT AND I'M VERY GRATEFUL.

[00:30:01]

AND I'LL QUIT TALKING NOW.

THEY THINK THAT I REGRET NOT HAVING GONE.

I STILL DO IT. YES. THANK YOU.

LET'S TAKE A PICTURE. SO I HAD TO WALK AWAY THE WHOLE MEMBERS.

I WAS STANDING THERE IN A HURRY TO LEAVE, YOU KNOW.

OH, DO YOU WANT TO COME? WELL, IT'S THE CENTER. YOU JUST WANT THE GOOD LOOKING BOARD MEMBERS YEARS.

CRAZY, RIGHT? DO YOU HAVE? LIKE A SORT OF LIKE A IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL VIEW OUT OVER.

MANEUVERS OFF THE BEACH OR SOMETHING.

WHERE'S THAT GUY FROM? YEAH, YOU TRY TO USE THAT TO GET ME TO COME BACK.

RIGHT. WHAT DO YOU DO ABOUT YOUR RETIREMENT? TRAVELING.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THAT WAS EXCELLENT.

[4.03 Discussion of Board Self-Evaluation]

SO HERE IS FOR THE DISCUSSION.

OKAY. THANK YOU, DR.

LIU. SO WE HAVE ATTACHED TO THE ITEM THE RESULTS OF THE EVALUATION AND.

[00:40:05]

OR AT ALL, AS SHE CAN TELL, ON THE BREAKDOWN OF INFORMATION AND THE GOALS THAT THE THAT ACTION THAT THE BOARD DECIDED LAST YEAR OF THE AREAS THAT WE WERE GOING TO IMPLEMENT, WHICH ALL AREAS WERE AROUND, STRENGTHENING THE CULTURE TO COMPLETION, DECREASING THE TIME TO GRADUATION SUPPORT, GUIDED PATHWAYS AND.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES ON CAMPUS ARE AREAS THAT WE HAVE MADE.

SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS.

AND AS YOU CAN SEE, THE RESULTS OF THAT SURVEY WITH THE.

ACHIEVEMENT, THE PERCENTAGE OF ACHIEVEMENT AND SOME OF THOSE GOALS THE.

WAS RECEIVED IS FAVORABLE FOR FOR THE BOARD AS A WHOLE.

THERE MAY BE INSECURE IN A COUPLE OF ITEMS. FOR INSTANCE, SECURE AT LEAST A DONOR TO CONDUCT DONOR ASSESSMENT AND DETERMINE WHETHER TO SELECT A CONSULTANT THAT CAN BE BETTER COMMUNICATION FROM OUR END TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A LITTLE MORE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE INFORMATION THE WE TRANSFER TO YOU FROM THE EFFORTS OF THE FOUNDATION AND YOUR LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING, BUT WITH ALL IS STILL A POSITIVE RESULT THERE.

THE NEXT ONE IS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY.

AGAIN, WE CAN DO A BETTER JOB COMMUNICATING THE SERIES OF EXPECTATIONS THERE AND HOW WE HAVE PROMOTED SOME OF THIS WORK ACROSS CAMPUS. AS YOU SEE, THERE IS A NEUTRAL AREA ON THE 14% SETTING ON THE EYE, AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE IMPLEMENTED NOT LONG AGO IN WHICH VICE PRESIDENT GUTIERREZ IS PROVIDING REGULAR UPDATES OF THE EFFORTS TO ADVANCE THE THE EIA AND OUR EFFORTS ACROSS CAMPUS, NOT JUST FOR HIRING, BUT ACROSS ALL DISCIPLINES.

THE NEXT ONE THAT WE COULD DO PROBABLY A BETTER JOB IN COMMUNICATION IS MAINTAINING COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EFFORTS TO STRENGTHEN LINKAGES BETWEEN THE COLLEGE AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. WE HAVE BEEN HOSTING THE EVENTS, BUT I THINK WE CAN PROBABLY ENGAGE YOU A LITTLE MORE AS WE DO THAT AND PLAN AHEAD.

AND AS I SAID, THESE ARE NOT THERE ARE NEGATIVE.

IT'S JUST THE AREAS THAT I THINK WE COULD DO A LITTLE BETTER BASED ON THE NEUTRAL RESPONSES.

BUT OVERALL, IT SEEMS THAT IT HAS BEEN A PRETTY SUCCESSFUL YEAR IN MANY OF THE INITIATIVES THE BOARD SAID FOR ONE YEAR AGO.

SO. HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.

ANYONE WHO HAS A QUESTION.

NO. SO IS HE RIGHT? OKAY. SO NO QUESTION.

ALL RIGHT. SO RECEIVING FILE AND WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS. SO THIS ONE IS ADOPTION OF CERRITOS COLLEGE FIVE YEAR CONSTRUCTION PLAN, 2025 TO 2029.

[5.01 REVISED: Adoption of Cerritos College's 2025-2029 Five-Year Construction Plan (5YCP)]

THE WHOLE TEAM IS HERE.

WE WANT TO. VICE PRESIDENT LOPEZ.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD.

BOARD MEMBERS. SO THIS ITEM IS ANNUALLY WE'RE REQUIRED TO ADOPT.

WE REVISE OUR FIVE YEAR CONSTRUCTION PLAN.

THIS GETS SUBMITTED TO THE STATE ALONG WITH IT.

WE EITHER SUBMIT IPS INITIAL PROJECT PROPOSALS OR FINAL PROJECT PROPOSALS.

SO THIS ROUND WE ARE CONTINUING TO UPDATE OUR IPS.

UM, A COUPLE OF REASONS WHY WE SUBMIT THIS ANNUAL PLAN.

ONE, IT GIVES THE STATE A ROADMAP OF WHAT ALL THE STATEWIDE DISTRICTS ARE DOING FROM A CONSTRUCTION PLAN AND WHICH DISTRICTS ARE LOOKING TO REQUEST STATE FUNDING.

SO THE STATE UTILIZES THIS AS A GUIDE FOR WHEN THEY GO OUT FOR A NEW BOND AND THEY CAN KIND OF ESTIMATE WHAT THE NEED OUT THERE FROM A COMMUNITY COLLEGE STANDPOINT, FACILITIES NEEDS WOULD BE.

SO THE FIVE PROJECTS THAT WE LISTED IN ARE CONSTRUCTION IS JUST UPDATED IS ACTUALLY A CONTINUATION.

IT'S THE SAME FIVE PROJECTS THAT WE SUBMITTED LAST YEAR.

ONE OF THEM IS CURRENTLY THE FIRST PROJECT IS OUR HEALTH SCIENCE RENOVATION PROJECT.

THAT IS A STATE FUNDED PROJECT.

SO WE'RE HAPPY THAT IS PROGRESSING.

WE'RE CURRENTLY IN CONSTRUCTION.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT SITE THAT IS ON THE STUDEBAKER SITE, JUST RIGHT IN FRONT OF LOT EIGHT.

SO THAT PROJECT CONTINUES TO MOVE.

[00:45:03]

THE SECOND PROJECT IS OUR STUDENT SERVICES ADMINISTRATION BUILDING.

THAT IS A NON STATE BOND FUNDED PROJECT.

BUT WE DID REQUEST AND DID RECEIVE STATE DOLLARS THROUGH A SPECIAL ALLOCATION REQUEST LAST YEAR, WHICH TOTALED ABOUT $16 MILLION THAT WE RECEIVED.

TEAM IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON BID DOCUMENTS AND WE'RE TRYING TO GET THAT PROPOSAL OUT TO THE STREET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THAT WAY WE CAN BRING A RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD ON CONTRACTS FOR THE TRADES AND THEN POTENTIALLY AND THEN WE WOULD LIKELY BREAK GROUND EARLY FALL OF THIS YEAR.

AND SO THE SECOND OR THE THIRD PROJECT ON THAT LIST IS OUR CAMPUS POLICE FACILITY THAT WOULD CAUSE OUT.

AND ALL OF THESE KIND OF ALL OF THESE ARE SEQUENCE IN OUR CURRENT FACILITIES MASTER PLAN.

THE THE CAMPUS POLICE BUILDING WOULD BE A LOCALLY FUNDED PROJECT, NOT NON STATE FUNDED PROJECT.

AND THAT CALLS FOR A COMPLETE DEMOLITION AND REBUILD OF THAT BUILDING.

THAT THAT BUILDING IS SLATED TO BE DEMOED BECAUSE OF THE FACILITY INDEX IS EXTREMELY POOR ON THAT AND DOES NEED TO BE REPLACED.

UM, WE DO HAVE IN THAT FIVE YEAR PLAN TWO POTENTIAL STATE FUNDED PROJECTS, FIRST ONE BEING OUR CTE BUILDING THAT KIND OF EXPANDS THE, UM, THE STEAM DISCIPLINES WITHIN THE, THE SCIENCES ON THAT.

AND THEN ALSO IS A CENTRAL HUB FOR ALL OF OUR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. THAT BUILDING IS ON THE SLATED TO BE ON THE STUDEBAKER SIDE AND IT WILL BE UM AND THAT WOULD BE A STATE FUNDED.

WE'RE REQUESTING A 50% REQUEST FOR CONSTRUCTION AND WITH A 50% MATCH PROVIDED BY LOCALLY BOND DOLLARS.

AND THE FINAL STATE FUNDED PROJECT IS WHAT WE CONSIDER OUR INSTRUCTIONAL BUILDING NUMBER ONE, WHICH ACTUALLY GOES IN THE LOCATION OF CURRENTLY WHERE WE'RE SITTING.

AND SO ONCE WE COMPLETE THE STUDENT SERVICES ADMIN BUILDING IN, ACCORDING TO OUR CURRENT FACILITIES MASTER PLAN, WE WOULD BE DEMOING THE ADMIN QUAD WHERE WE CURRENTLY RESIDE AND WE WOULD BE BUILDING A NEW INSTRUCTIONAL BUILDING ON THAT. AND SO THOSE ARE KIND OF SEQUENCING WHAT'S CURRENTLY IN THE MASTER PLAN.

WHAT YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN HERE, I WANTED TO BRING YOUR ATTENTION TO OUR COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN DRAFT TIMELINE BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW.

NOTE THAT BEFORE WE WOULD EVEN EMBARK ON A POTENTIAL INSTRUCTIONAL BUILDING IN THIS LOCATION, WE WOULD WANT TO GO THROUGH A REFRESH OR UPDATE OF OUR MASTER PLANS.

THIS ROUND, WE'RE CHOOSING TO CONDUCT A COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN WHICH WOULD ACTUALLY INTEGRATE ALL THREE MASTER PLANS INTO ONE SINGLE PLAN.

THIS PROVIDES A MUCH MORE STREAMLINED APPROACH AND A MUCH MORE INTEGRATED APPROACH.

INTO THE FACILITIES ON THAT OUR PAST PRACTICE.

MASTER PLANS WERE INDIVIDUALLY PRODUCED AND THAT WAY AND IT MAKES IT VERY HARD WHEN A NEW CONSULTANT COMES ON AND IS TAKING A PARTICULAR MASTER PLAN, IS TRYING TO INTERPRET WHAT THE OTHER EDUCATIONAL MASTER PLAN WAS TRYING TO CONVEY.

THIS WAY THE TEAM CAN WORK COLLABORATIVELY AND TO ULTIMATELY ISSUE A MORE INTEGRATED APPROACH.

WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE RFP.

AT THE MOMENT.

IT IS OUR GOAL TO RELEASE THE RFP FOR A COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN SOMETIME IN SEPTEMBER, RIGHT? RIGHT NOW WE'RE TENTATIVELY HAVE IT SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE IN SEPTEMBER 11TH, WHICH THEN WOULD REQUIRE PROPOSALS DUE 30 DAYS LATER, WHICH GIVES US ROUGHLY ABOUT OCTOBER 11TH.

AND THEN WE ANTICIPATE BRINGING A RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD AT THE NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING WITH A POTENTIAL START DATE SHORTLY AFTER THAT IN NOVEMBER.

THIS MASTER PLAN LIKELY TIMELINE WOULD TAKE ROUGHLY DEPENDING ON HOW QUICKLY IT PROBABLY WOULD TAKE US WITH ABOUT 12 MONTHS OR LESS TO COMPLETE, AND WE'RE PRETTY EXCITED TO DO THIS.

ANOTHER ADDITION THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT ON THIS GO ROUND IS A LONG TERM VISION, SO WE'RE ACTUALLY CONSIDERING A TEN YEAR MASTER PLAN.

[00:50:06]

SO IT WOULD BASICALLY BE THE CERRITOS 2024 ROADMAP ON THAT.

AND SO WE'RE PRETTY EXCITED.

MY OFFICE, ALONG WITH THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH, INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, RESEARCH AND GRANTS, IS WORKING TOGETHER ON FINALIZING THE RFP. AND THEN WE'RE AND THEN WE'LL GET IT OUT ON THE STREET AND OUT FOR REVIEW AND A RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD SOMETIME IN NOVEMBER.

BUT THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO MENTION THIS BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THE CONSTRUCTION PLAN IS DRIVEN OFF THE CURRENT MASTER PLAN.

BUT OBVIOUSLY THINGS CAN CHANGE ONCE WE DO THAT BECAUSE A LOT HAS CHANGED.

EVEN THOUGH OUR FACILITIES MASTER PLAN IS STILL RELATIVELY NEW.

REMEMBER, IT WAS ADOPTED IN 2019.

HOWEVER, A LOT HAS HAPPENED BETWEEN 2019 AND NOW AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE BEFORE WE EMBARK ON OUR NEW MEASURE CC THAT WE WERE SO GRACIOUSLY TO, TO RECEIVE BEFORE WE EMBARK TOO FAR DOWN THAT WE WANT TO REEVALUATE THE MASTER PLAN AND MAKE SURE THAT WHAT WE'RE BUILDING IS MEETS THE NEEDS OF THE CAMPUS ON THAT.

SO HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FIVE YEAR PLAN OR THE INITIAL PROJECT PROPOSALS, THE GOAL AND THE IPS. SO THERE IS SOME TALKS FROM THE STATE THAT THERE POTENTIALLY COULD BE A STATE BOND IN THE 2024 YEAR.

OBVIOUSLY, IF THAT STARTS PANNING OUT, WE WOULD WANT TO CONVERT OUR IPS INTO IPS.

THEN THAT WAY WE CAN WE CAN ACTUALLY GET ON THE LIST FOR POTENTIAL STATE FUNDED PROJECT.

THE UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD TO PICK ONE PROJECT THAT THAT THAT, YOU KNOW, THE STATE'S ONLY GOING TO ALLOW IT TO GET FUNDED ONE PROJECT AT A TIME. OBVIOUSLY OUR EFFORTS ARE LIKELY GOING TO BE TO OUR CTE PROGRAM.

THAT ONE'S GOING TO PROBABLY GATHER THE MOST POINTS BECAUSE IT IS A COMPETITIVE PROCESS SIMILAR TO THE COMPETITIVE PROCESS ON THE STUDENT HOUSING APPLICATION PROCESS.

THE STATE USES A SIMILAR PROCESS ON THAT.

SO WE WANT TO BE VERY COMPETITIVE WHEN WE SUBMIT OUR OUR OUR FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL.

THAT WAY IT IT SCORES GOOD ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO BE CONSIDERED INTO THE POTENTIAL NEW FUNDING ONCE AND IF THE STATE ADOPTS A NEW STATE BOND.

SO. THAT'S MY REPORT.

NO. OKAY.

THANK YOU FOR THE REPORT. WE NEED TO APPROVE THIS.

SO IS THERE A MOTION? I'LL MOTION TO COMMENT.

I JUST APPRECIATE THE APPROACH YOU'RE TAKING.

I THINK IT'S SPOT ON.

SO JUST HEARD AND DEFINITELY AGREE.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

SO THAT'S A MOTION.

SECOND. ALL RIGHT.

SO IS YOUR OBJECTION.

NO OBJECTION.

SO THE MOTION CARRIES.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP.

THANK YOU. OKAY.

ALL RIGHT. SO WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE SIXTH SECTION OF REPORT AND COMMENTS FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICIAL.

[6.01 Reports and Comments from District Officials]

WE START WITH OUR STUDENT TRUSTEE, PLEASE.

OKAY. HI.

I AM. AS A STUDENT, I JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW PROUD I AM TO BE A PART OF A COMMUNITY COLLEGE THAT CONTINUES TO OFFER PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE PHI BETA LAMBDA BUSINESS CLUB AND AS THE PREVIOUS MATH CLUB PRESIDENT.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THESE CLUBS ARE REALLY ESSENTIAL TO STUDENT SUCCESS, ESPECIALLY AS STUDENTS WHO, LIKE ME, GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND NOT REALLY HAVING MUCH AMBITION. IT'S GOTTEN ME INTO A DIFFERENT MINDSET.

AND SO SEEING OTHER STUDENTS LIKE THESE DOING SUCCESSFUL THINGS AND LIVING THEIR LIVES IS REALLY, REALLY IMPACTFUL.

SO I JUST WANT TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON THEIR SUCCESS.

AND I WILL ALSO LIKE TO CONGRATULATE THE WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM.

I HAVE FRIENDS ON THAT TEAM WHO TALK SO PROUDLY ABOUT THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND THEY'RE JUST SHOWING OFF FOR CERRITOS AND I LOVE TO SEE IT.

AND TO BRIAN AS A GA ALUMNI, I WANTED TO SEND MY CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ON YOUR RETIREMENT.

IF YOU ARE WATCHING THIS AND TO EDITH, CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING RECOGNIZED AS AN OUTSTANDING EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH.

HAVING PEOPLE THAT YOU WORK WITH HOLD THAT LEVEL OF RESPECT FOR YOU IS VERY ADMIRABLE.

AND AFTER ALL THAT, I HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE SCOTT.

LET'S DO TRUSTEE LEWIS.

[00:55:02]

SO NOT TOO MUCH TO REPORT OTHER THAN THE JULY 3RD CELEBRATION AT THE CITY OF LA MIRADA, WHERE APPROXIMATELY 10,000 PEOPLE CAME TO OUR REGIONAL PARK THERE AND WAS ATTENDED BY ASSEMBLY MEMBER BLANCA PACHECO AND CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER MARIANA PACHECO AS WELL.

SO WE HAD A GREAT TIME WITH OUR FAMILY.

IT WAS GOOD FIREWORKS, GREAT VENDORS AND SO ON.

SO I INVITE YOU TO COME. NEXT YEAR.

OTHER THAN THAT, LA MIRADA AND NORWALK ARE BOTH DOING.

CONCERTS IN THE PARK ON THURSDAY EVENING.

SO PICK YOUR FAVORITE AND COME ON BY TO EACH CITY.

WE HAVE GREAT VENDORS FOR THAT.

WELL, I HOPE YOU'RE ALL HAVING A GREAT SUMMER AND LOOKING FORWARD TO.

CONVOCATION COMING UP SOONER THAN YOU THINK.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

TRUSTEE. PACHECO.

YES, I ATTENDED THE JULY 3RD.

IT WAS GREAT.

A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE THERE.

IT WAS A FABULOUS EVENT THAT WAS PUT ON.

THERE WAS OTHER EVENTS THAT I WENT TO ALSO FOR 4TH OF JULY.

I WENT TO CUDAHY FOR THEIR EVENT AND I ALSO WENT TO BELL GARDENS.

SO THERE WERE SEVERAL EVENTS THAT I ATTENDED FOR THE 4TH OF JULY.

I ALSO WENT TO THE LEO CONFERENCE AND IN NEW YORK, AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I ATTENDED WAS THE COVID 19 STUDENTS AND FAMILIES AND THE EFFECTS OF COVID 19 AND HOW IT'S AFFECTED PSYCHOLOGICALLY A LOT OF STUDENTS, AND ALSO THE EFFECTS OF OF ISOLATION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING PSYCHOLOGISTS AND STUDENTS WORK THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

AND THE EFFECTS OF THAT ARE STILL BEING FELT BY STUDENTS.

AND THE OTHER THING IS IT CREATED.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE PIVOTING AND THE ABILITY TO NOW OFFER COURSES DIFFERENTLY, OFFER MORE ONLINE COURSES FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT DO WELL ON THAT. BUT AGAIN, SERVICING THOSE STUDENTS THAT REALLY NEED TO HAVE THE INTERACTION IN THE CLASSROOM VERSUS VIRTUALLY SO THOSE THOSE WERE THE THINGS THAT WE DISCUSSED ON THAT ONE.

I WENT TO I ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE SERVICE PROJECT.

WE, I THINK, MADE LIKE 400 KIDS FOR WOMEN THAT HAD TO LEAVE THEIR HOME BECAUSE OF A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. SO WE CREATED KITS FOR THEM SO THAT THAT WAY THEY COULD HAVE KIDS BECAUSE THEY LEAVE THEIR HOME WITH NOTHING.

SO WE CREATED THOSE.

I ALSO WENT TO ANOTHER ONE THAT WAS REALLY GOOD.

IT WAS THE OPIOID AND FENTANYL CRISIS IN SCHOOLS.

THAT WAS ANOTHER ONE THAT WAS REALLY GOOD.

AND THE AND WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW, WHETHER IT'S K THROUGH 12 OR EVEN IN THE COLLEGE SYSTEMS, THIS IS A CRISIS AND IT IS AFFECTING A LOT OF STUDENTS.

AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY'RE FINDING THEY'RE DYING ACTUALLY IN THEIR HOMES.

SO THE EFFECTS OF THAT OF THE OPIOIDS AND FENTANYL IN IN THE SCHOOL SETTINGS IS HUGE.

I ALSO WE ALSO HAD THE PLEASURE OF LISTENING TO THE DIFFERENT CANDIDATES THAT ARE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.

I BELIEVE IT WAS VERY INTERESTING TO HEAR WHAT EVERYBODY HAD TO PROPOSE AND WHERE THEY WERE AT, AND I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT.

THANK YOU, DR.

SALAZAR. NO REPORT.

THANK YOU. OKAY. TRUSTEE.

BIRKEY. NO REPORT.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO THE WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM.

TRUSTEE. NO REPORT, BUT ALSO THE SAME.

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WOMEN'S WRESTLING TEAM AND TO OUR EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AND OUR RETIREES.

IT'S WONDERFUL. THE BUREAU.

OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS OR I GUESS SINCE THE BUDGET WAS SIGNED.

THERE IS A RUMOR ABOUT THE HOUSING PROJECT AND SO ON FOR CERRITOS COLLEGE.

AND I JUST WANT TO KIND OF.

GIVES YOU A LITTLE BIT OF AN UPDATE BECAUSE THINGS ARE STILL ONGOING.

SO IF YOU HAVE LOOKED AT THE BUDGET, YOU PROBABLY SEE THE CERRITOS COLLEGE IS LISTED IN THE BUDGET AS ONE OF THE COLLEGES.

THEY WAS AWARDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD A STUDENT HOUSING ON CAMPUS.

WE RANKED NUMBER ONE AND OUR EFFORTS OF ADVOCACY OBVIOUSLY LED TO US BEING LISTED ON THE BUDGET AS ONE OF THE AWARDEES

[01:00:06]

OR THE STUDENT TRUSTEE.

JACKIE WAS WITH US THERE AND I THINK WE MADE OUR POINT PRETTY CLEAR DURING THE PROCESS.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME CONFUSIONS WITH THE LANGUAGE AS TO HOW WE IMPLEMENT THAT.

SO I HAVE BEEN MEETING WITH A NUMBER OF STATE OFFICIALS OVER THE LAST WEEK OR SO, MOST RECENTLY YESTERDAY WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE AND THIS MORNING WITH THE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE TO DETERMINE HOW ARE WE GOING TO IMPLEMENT THESE PROJECTS.

IT IS A LITTLE EARLY TO SEE HOW THIS IS GOING TO END UP WORKING OUT.

BUT PLEASE REST ASSURED THAT WHATEVER THE RUMORS YOU'RE HEARING, THE DIFFICULTIES TO IMPLEMENT THIS, THAT WE'RE REALLY WORKING AS HARD AS WE CAN TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

SO THE FIRST HURDLE WAS TO GET US ON THE BUDGET WE HAD IN THE BUDGET.

WE ARE LISTED THERE.

THIS NEXT ONE IS HOW WE'RE GOING TO ESSENTIALLY SECURE THE DOLLARS THAT ARE COMING TO CONSTRUCTION.

SO WE WERE HOPING TO BEGIN OUR PROCESS BASICALLY AS SOON AS THE BUDGET WAS SIGNED, BUT IT'S GOING TO TAKE US A LITTLE LONGER TO GET THIS GOING BECAUSE WE ARE STILL NEGOTIATING THE DETAILS AS TO HOW WE'RE GOING TO RECEIVE THAT MONEY.

AND WE'RE GOING WE'RE BEING VERY CAREFUL BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A VERY LONG TERM COMMITMENT FOR US.

AND THE WAY THAT WE STRUCTURED THE PROJECT, THAT IS TO ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO TRULY ENTER AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS OUR MAIN CONCERN HERE TO ENSURE THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY OFFER THE RATES THAT WE SAID THAT WE WERE GOING TO DO IT.

SO AGAIN, WE'RE STILL WORKING WITH DIFFERENT STATE OFFICIALS.

EVERYONE HAS BEEN VERY RECEPTIVE TO MAKING A FEW CHANGES ON HOW THE BILL IS PUT TOGETHER.

SO MORE TO COME HOPEFULLY IN THE AUGUST BOARD MEETING.

THAT COULD GIVE YOU A MORE COMPREHENSIVE UPDATE ON WHAT IS HAPPENING.

BUT BUT AGAIN, THE FIRST STAGE ONE THAT WAS GETTING ON THE BUDGET AND ALL THAT IS THERE WERE LISTED AND THERE IS PLENTY OF SUPPORT AT THE STATE LEVEL FOR US TO CONTINUE WITH IT.

WE JUST NEED TO FIGURE OUT THE DETAILS TO ENSURE THE THE INTENT OF THE PROJECT MATERIALIZES RATHER THAN JUST SIMPLY PUTTING A BUILDING AND NOT DOING IT IN THE WAY THAT WE WANT IT TO DO IT TO BEGIN WITH.

SO THAT'S THE UPDATE FOR NOW.

THANK YOU. NO REPORT FOR ME.

WE ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE CLOSED SESSION.

[7. Closed Session]

AND THERE ARE FOUR ITEMS IN THE CLOSED SESSION WE WILL HAVE.

WE WILL HAVE TWO READOUTS.

SO. RIGHT.

SO NOW END OF TODAY'S OPEN SESSION.

WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE CLOSED SESSION.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. ANYWHERE.
