WANG. CCF.

THANK YOU. YOU DON'T HAVE A REPORT? I NEED TO CALL YOU OUT.

GOOD EVENING, TRUSTEES.

SUMMERTIME IS OFTEN THOUGHT OF AS A TIME OF REST FOR FACULTY.

HOWEVER, CERRITOS COLLEGE FACULTY TAKE THE SUMMER TO WRITE CURRICULUM, ENGAGE IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND STRIVE FOR SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES. WITH THE EXCITING APPROVAL OF OUR DENTAL HYGIENE BACHELOR'S DEGREE, THERE WAS A SUDDEN NEED TO DEVELOP UPPER DIVISION CURRICULUM.

DENTAL HYGIENE FACULTY DIANE LAURILA, CHRISTINE STEVENS AND MARLENA SHAW ARE CURRENTLY DEVELOPING UPPER DIVISION COURSES FOR THE DENTAL HYGIENE MAJOR IN ADDITION TO THESE MAJOR COURSES.

DOCTORS JACQUELINE RONQUILLO AND PSYCHOLOGY ANGELA HUFNAGEL IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES AND RALPH CASAS IN PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY ARE DEVELOPING GENERAL EDUCATION, UPPER DIVISION COURSES TO ROUND OUT THEIR DEGREE.

THIS BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM IS A TRUE COLLABORATION ACROSS DISCIPLINES.

CCF WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND THE THANKS TO THE FACULTY WHO ARE DEVELOPING THIS IMPORTANT CURRICULUM DURING A TIME WHEN THEY ARE TECHNICALLY OFF CONTRACT, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE BUILDING EQUITY FOCUSED CURRICULUM IS NO SMALL MATTER.

THESE FACULTY ARE ABLE TO APPROPRIATELY BE COMPENSATED AT THEIR HOURLY RATE FOR THE WORK AND THE COMMITMENT BEYOND THEIR TEN MONTH CONTRACT.

BECAUSE NOW WE HAVE A SUMMER ACADEMIC WORK APPROVAL PROCESS.

THIS PROCESS WAS PUT INTO PLACE AS A RESULT OF A COLLEGIAL CI LETTER NEGOTIATION PROCESS BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND CCF LAST YEAR. BEYOND CURRICULUM, FACULTY ARE ENGAGING IN MEANINGFUL AND EQUITABLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACROSS CAMPUS.

THE CENTER FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE HOSTED A FIVE DAY SUMMER INSTITUTE FOCUSING ON SUPPORTING FACULTY'S JOURNEY FROM BEING QUOTE UNQUOTE, NON RACIST TO ANTI-RACIST.

CERRITOS CONTINUES TO BE A LEADER IN SUPPORTING FACULTY WITH HIGH QUALITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT FOCUSES ON SUPPORTING FACULTY TO TRANSFORM FROM ALLY TO ACCOMPLICE IN THEIR DAY TO DAY WORK.

FACULTY CONTINUE TO SHARPEN THEIR TOOLS TO BECOME EQUITY PRACTITIONERS.

CTCS ALSO ORGANIZED THE EPIC RETREAT WHERE FACULTY FROM ACROSS DISCIPLINES SHARE THEIR BEST PRACTICES AND BUILD COMMUNITY AS MENTORS AND FELLOWS.

FACULTY AT CERRITOS COLLEGE CONTINUE TO TAKE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIOUSLY BECAUSE WE CARE ABOUT OUR STUDENTS.

FINALLY, I WOULD LIKE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE WORK OF LEONARD GLICK.

THE AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT EXPERIENCED AN UNEXPLAINED LAST YEAR.

THE AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT EXPERIENCED AN UNEXPECTED RETIREMENT, AND AS A RESULT, WE'RE FACING A POTENTIAL STAFFING SHORTAGE.

LEONARD TAUGHT ADDITIONAL COURSES TO AVOID STAFFING SHORTAGE AND ENSURE THAT STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM WOULD NOT HAVE THEIR PROGRESS DISRUPTED AND WOULD BE ABLE TO GRADUATE ON TIME.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO YOUR STUDENTS, LEONARD, AND ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT.

[00:05:07]

THANK YOU, DR.

WANG. NEXT, FACULTY, SENATE PRESIDENT.

I KNOW YOUR TITLE.

NO, YOUR TITLE.

I. IS IT ON? IT'S ON RIGHT THROUGH TO THE BLUE.

YEAH. OKAY, NOW IT'S BLUE.

ALL RIGHT. HONORED BOARD MEMBERS.

YOU? STUDENT TRUSTEE.

NICE TO MEET YOU.

MEMBERS OF THE ADMINISTRATION AND MEMBERS FROM THE COMMUNITY AND FACULTY AND STAFF AND OTHERS AND PEOPLE WATCHING ONLINE.

NICE TO SEE YOU. HAPPY SUMMER.

IT'S ACTUALLY STARTING TO LOOK LIKE SUMMER, RIGHT? EVERYTHING THAT SHE SAID.

THAT'S THE FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT REPORT TODAY.

SHE DID A BETTER JOB THAN I'M GOING TO.

TRUTH IS, THE FACULTY SENATE HASN'T MET SINCE LAST MONTH, AND THERE IS A LOT GOING ON.

AND THAT'S WHY I SAID THE SUMMARY THAT SHE GAVE WAS AMAZING.

I ACTUALLY ATTENDED THE EPIC RETREAT THAT WE HAD HERE ON CAMPUS AND THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

AND OTHER THAN THAT, WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO SUPPORT THE COLLEGE AS IT TRIES TO STAFF VARIOUS POSITIONS.

I'M GOING TO WORK WITH COLLEEN PRETTY SOON WITH DUAL ENROLLMENT TO SEE IF WE CAN HELP OUT OVER SUMMER AND FIND A WAY TO HELP STAFF THAT SEARCH COMMITTEE.

AND AS THE NEW CURRICULUM ROLLS OUT THAT LYNN REFERRED TO IN DENTAL HYGIENE AND IN OTHER AREAS, I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO A STRONG RETURN IN AUGUST OF ALL THE SENATE COMMITTEES, INCLUDING CURRICULUM AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, SO THAT WE CAN HIT THE GROUND RUNNING AND CONTINUE THE HARD WORK THAT WE DO. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WELCOME BACK FROM TAIWAN.

THANK YOU, PROFESSOR FALCON.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, YOLANDA LOPEZ CCAEA.

THANK YOU.

[2.01 Institutional Presentation: Installation of 2023-2024 Student Trustee]

SO WITH THAT, I WILL HAND IT OFF TO THE NEXT AGENDA ITEM.

YES.

OKAY. YEAH. YEAH, THAT'S A GOOD POINT.

CONGRATULATIONS, TRUSTEE SCOTT.

LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU THIS YEAR, AND I'M SURE THE REST OF THE BOARD FEELS THE SAME WAY.

SO WELCOME. THANK YOU.

AND THE NEXT ITEM, WHICH IS 2.02, AND IT IS THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL HONOR LUIS OCAMPO, ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY AND THE FACILITIES

[2.02 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of Classified/Confidential Employee of the Month]

DEPARTMENT AS OUTSTANDING CLASSIFIED CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR MAY 2023, AND THAT WILL BE PRESENTED BY DR.

FIERRO. ALL RIGHT, LOUIS, THIS IS OKAY FOR YOU TO COME HERE.

ALL RIGHT.

LEWIS. YES.

LOUIS OCAMPO BEGAN HER CAREER AT CERRITOS COLLEGE IN 1985 AS A BOOKSTORE EMPLOYEE.

SHE JOINED THE FACILITIES TEAM IN 1998.

THIS IS THE THIRD TIME LOUIS HAS BEEN HONORED WITH EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AWARD.

THOSE WHO ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO COME IN CONTACT WITH LEWIS WILL ALWAYS RECEIVE A GREAT CARE TO HER SERVICE EXCELLENCE WHENEVER THAT EMPLOYER REACHES OUT TO LOSE, SHE ALWAYS ANSWERS WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND ENERGY.

SHE NEVER SAYS NO.

SHE MOVES IMMEDIATELY AND QUICKLY TO RESOLVE ANY AND ALL ISSUES PRESENTED TO HER ON THE SPUR OF THE MOMENT AND ALWAYS COME THROUGH WITH A SOLUTION.

WE REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WILL DO WITHOUT LUCE.

SHE IS AN INSTRUMENTAL PART OF THE FACILITIES DEPARTMENT AND A HUGE PART OF WHAT KEEPS THE CAMPUS MOVING AND FLOWING SUCCESSFULLY IN A DAILY BASIS.

LUCE YOUR DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT AND WILLINGNESS TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND STAFF ARE EXCEPTIONAL.

THE ADMINISTRATION, STAFF AND STUDENTS APPRECIATE YOUR PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND OUTSTANDING EFFORTS.

WE ARE PROUD THAT YOU ARE A CERRITOS COLLEGE EMPLOYEE AND WE COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND DEDICATION.

THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE.

AND WHAT IS WRITTEN HERE IS VERY ACCURATE.

IF YOU EVER RUN INTO LUCE.

SHE'S ALWAYS HAPPY.

GOOD ATTITUDE, GOOD CONVERSATION.

SO THANK YOU, LEWIS, FOR ALWAYS BEING POSITIVE OR FOR ALWAYS HAVING A SMILE ON YOUR FACE.

IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I APPRECIATE YOU VERY MUCH.

YOU'RE WELCOME. THANK YOU.

IF YOU GUYS KNOW SHE'S ALWAYS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AT OUR HOUSE.

OH.

[00:15:05]

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. ONE MORE.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO I JUST WANTED TO THANK MY FELLOW EMPLOYEES WHO NOMINATED ME. I WAS VERY SURPRISED WHEN THIS WAS GIVEN TO ME.

IT'S NOT AN HONOR THAT SLIGHTLY TAKEN.

AND I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE YEARS I'VE BEEN HERE AT THE COLLEGE.

I'VE SEEN IT GROW.

I'VE SEEN CHANGES POSITIVE AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT YEAR OR SO WHEN HOPING TO RETIRE.

WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS, BUT JUST WANTED TO TELL EVERYONE, THANK YOU AND ESPECIALLY TO ALL THE EMPLOYEES THAT VOTED FOR ME.

I KNOW THAT VERY WELL.

APPRECIATE ALL THIS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

CONGRATULATIONS. AND THE NEXT ITEM IS TO NO SORRY.

[2.03 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of Retirees]

2.03. WE ARE RECOGNIZING THE RETIREES.

THE FIRST ONE IS TERRY LOPEZ, DIRECTOR OF CAREER AND ASSESSMENT SERVICES, PRESENTED BY DR.

ELISA HOYOS, VICE DEAN OF COUNSELING SERVICES.

HI, EVERYONE. GOOD EVENING.

SO IT'S MY PLEASURE AND SAD MOMENT TO CONGRATULATE TERRY AND ACKNOWLEDGE HER RETIREMENT.

I'VE ONLY BEEN HERE A YEAR.

WELL, I'M GOING TO BE A YEAR.

AND I WANT TO SAY THAT THE MOMENT THAT I MET TERRY, I DEFINITELY SAW AN ENERGY BLASTING FROM HER.

SHE'S ALWAYS VERY POSITIVE.

SHE'S VERY MUCH.

PUSHING FOR THE BEST FOR HER TEAM.

AND SO THAT'S GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO BE HARD TO FIND.

BUT I'M GOING TO DO MY BEST ALONG WITH THE TEAM.

YOU LEFT BECAUSE YOU LEFT AN AMAZING TEAM.

TERRY CAME TO CERRITOS COLLEGE 20 YEARS, NO MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO IN 2000, AND SHE CAME WITH A BACKGROUND IN HIGHER ED IN THE FOUR YEAR INSTITUTION. BUT SHE DIVED IN TO GET TO KNOW THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS, TO GET TO KNOW THE CAREER SERVICES SIDE AND THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM.

AND I THINK THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW THE DEDICATION AND THE DEVOTION THAT SHE HAD FOR STUDENT SUCCESS THROUGH HER YEARS HERE.

DURING HER TIME HERE, TERRY HAS WORKED IN EXPANDING THE CAREER SERVICES SERVICES.

SHE HAS WORKED TO REVAMP OUR ORIENTATION WITH A GREAT TEAM.

AND SO SHE HAS DEFINITELY DEDICATED A LOT OF TIME AND DEVOTION AND PASSION TO CERRITOS COLLEGE.

TERRY'S ABILITY TO CROSS COLLABORATE HAS BEEN SEEN NOT ONLY WITHIN THE STUDENT SERVICES DIVISION, BUT EVEN ACROSS THE CAMPUS AND ACROSS OUTSIDE ENTITIES THROUGH THE LA REGIONAL CONSORTIUM.

TERRY IS KNOWN AS A DEDICATED, KIND HEARTED AND VERY HUMOROUS LEADER.

SHE MAKES HER TEAM FEEL SEEN, HEARD, AND SHE SHE CREATES A SPACE WHERE IDEAS FLOURISH.

SO ALTHOUGH I KNOW HER TEAM IS SAD TO SEE HER LEAVE, I AM SAD TO SEE HER LEAVE.

I ALSO KNOW THAT YOU GAVE SO MUCH OF YOUR PASSION AND YOUR IDEAS AND YOUR ENERGY TO CERRITOS, AND WE'RE REALLY HAPPY THAT NOW YOU GET TO ENJOY THE TIME YOU HAVE WITH YOUR HUSBAND AT YOUR BACKYARD BAKING AND THAT OCCASIONAL GLASS OF WINE.

SO THANK YOU FOR, YOU KNOW, WRITING MY DAYS AND CHEERING ME ON DURING MY FIRST YEAR AND FOR, YOU KNOW, INSTILLING IN ME LITTLE NUGGETS AS YOU WERE HERE FROM YOUR TEAM. I KNOW THAT THEY'RE GOING TO MISS YOU AND WE'RE GOING TO TRY OUR HARDEST TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NEXT PERSON KEEPS UP THE GOOD WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING.

SO CONGRATULATIONS AND ENJOY YOUR TIME OFF.

CONGRATULATIONS. THANKS.

I COULD. WELL, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY TONIGHT.

WHEN I FIRST CAME TO CERRITOS COLLEGE IN 2000, I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE THE PLACE THAT I RETIRED FROM.

BUT AS YOU KNOW VERY WELL, THE THE COLLEGE IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO WORK.

WHAT MAKES IT EVEN BETTER IS WHEN YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL, LOVING STAFF WHO TAKES CARE OF YOU AND REMINDS YOU EVERY DAY WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO.

[00:20:07]

AND IT'S BECAUSE OF THEM THAT I'VE BEEN HERE FOR THE 23 YEARS THAT I'VE BEEN HERE.

I REMEMBER MY FIRST MEETING THAT I WAS AT ACME THINKING, OH, SEVEN YEARS AND HERE IT IS 23 YEARS LATER.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. BUT I DO WANT TO SAY TO THE BOARD, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE YEARS OF SUPPORT THAT YOU'VE GIVEN CAREER SERVICES, ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY, TO THE ADMINISTRATION, JUST ALWAYS ADVOCATING FOR WHAT WE NEED AND ALWAYS SUPPORTING WHAT WE NEED AS EMPLOYEES. I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT MY COLLEAGUES AND MY COWORKERS, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME, BUT TO MY STAFF.

YOU GUYS KNOW HOW I FEEL.

IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY HARD.

WELL, IT HAS BEEN KIND OF HARD BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ON VACATION, SO IT'S BEEN REALLY HARD NOT SEEING THEM ON A DAILY BASIS, BUT TEXTING HERE AND THERE.

AND I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DO THE WONDERFUL WORK THAT YOU GUYS DO.

AND DR. FIERRO, I SUPPORT YOU ALL THIS TIME AND I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS AND YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR LEADERSHIP.

AND LIKE I KEEP TELLING YOU, ONE OF THESE DAYS, IF NOT THE FINALIST, THE TOP TEN, RIGHT, FOR THE ASPEN AWARD, I'M GOING TO COME BACK WITH A BIG BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE IF YOU EVER DO THAT OR WHEN YOU DO THAT.

BUT THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.

IT'S GOING TO BE A WARM PLACE IN MY HEART FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

THANK YOU. OH, MY HUSBAND.

WITHOUT YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT, I NEVER COULD HAVE DONE THIS.

YOU'VE SUPPORTED ME THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE CAREER.

YOU ALWAYS LET ME DO WHAT I NEEDED TO DO.

AND YOU NEVER ASKED FOR ANYTHING FROM ME.

AND SO NOW I CAN TELL YOU MY TIME IS YOUR TIME.

AND IT'S GOING TO BE OUR TIME TO DO WHAT WE WANT TO DO FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES.

I LOVE YOU. OKAY.

ALL RIGHT. NO.

OH, MY GOODNESS. SO.

MANY OTHER THINGS.

OKAY. OH, THAT'S RIGHT.

ANY OTHER YOU WANT. OH, YEAH, DEFINITELY.

YEAH. BUT I'M GOING TO PUT THIS.

WHEN? OH, I WAS JUST LIKE, IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE'VE SEEN EACH OTHER.

LAYER THREE. LAYER.

SO. SHANNON ROSE I'LL JUST POINT IT OUT.

VERY GOOD. NO, NO, YOU'RE GOOD.

ALL RIGHT. YAY! OH. THIS FOR ME? YEAH, OF COURSE.

THANK YOU, MS.. LOPEZ, FOR YOUR 20 PLUS YEARS OF SERVICE.

YOU WILL BE MISSED.

AND GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

DURING RETIREMENT.

AND THE NEXT RETIREE IS LEONARD GLICK, PROFESSOR OF AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICAL REPAIR, PRESENTED BY DR.

NICK REALE, INSTRUCTIONAL DEAN OF TECHNOLOGY.

BOARD GUESTS ARE WELCOME TO THIS INTRODUCTION OF MR. GLICK. HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE INDUSTRY AND THE WORK IS DONE OVER THE SUMMER.

FOR MANY SUMMERS IS WHAT DR.

[00:25:01]

WANG WAS TALKING ABOUT EARLIER IN THE EVENING.

SO I WANT TO TELL YOU A LITTLE MORE ABOUT LEONARD LEONARD.

INTEREST IN AUTOMOBILES STARTED WHEN HE WAS A KID.

AFTER TAKING AUTO SHOP CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL, HE ATTENDED PIERCE COLLEGE AND ENROLLED IN AN AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM SIMILAR TO WHAT WE HAVE HERE AT CERRITOS.

HE TRANSFERRED TO CAL STATE, LONG BEACH AND CONTINUED IN AN INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM WHILE WORKING AS AN INDEPENDENT IN AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP IN LOS ANGELES, LEONARD STARTED HIS CAREER TEACHING AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY AT THREE LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES FOR ABOUT FOUR YEARS, WITH THE GOAL OF EVENTUALLY TEACHING FULL TIME.

BUT AN OPPORTUNITY BECAME AVAILABLE FOR HIM TO BE A FULL TIME SERVICE TRAINING INSTRUCTOR FOR NISSAN NORTH AMERICA.

IN THAT JOB, HE TAUGHT CLASSES TO PROFESSIONAL AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIANS.

EVENTUALLY, LEONARD TOOK ANOTHER JOB AT MITSUBISHI AS A FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER, WHERE HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR COLLECTING INCIDENT INFORMATION, MONITORING WARRANTY REPAIRS, DEALING WITH CUSTOMER COMMENTS AND DEALER ASSISTANCE REQUESTS.

LEONARD RETURNED TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICA IN 2004 AND TOOK A JOB THIS TIME AS A RECALL AND SERVICE CAMPAIGN SPECIALIST.

IN THAT JOB, HE DEALT WITH ISSUES THAT REQUIRED VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED OR MODIFIED UNDER VOLUNTARY FEDERAL RECALLS.

IN 2006, WHEN NISSAN DECIDED TO MOVE THEIR NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS FROM CALIFORNIA TO TENNESSEE, HE WAS OFFERED A JOB THERE, BUT DECIDED TO TRY AGAIN, GETTING A FULL TIME TEACHING POSITION.

AND ONE BECAME AVAILABLE HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE IN OUR AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT.

SO HE APPLIED, INTERVIEWED, WAS OFFERED THE JOB, AND THE REST IS HISTORY.

SO BASICALLY, LEONARD TOOK A 25 YEAR DETOUR AWAY FROM HIS ORIGINAL PLAN OF BEING AN AUTO SHOP TEACHER, BUT ATTAINED HIS GOAL LATER IN LIFE.

SO LEONARD HAS SAID THAT HE HAS A LOT.

HE'S HAD A LOT OF JOBS WITHIN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY.

BUT TEACHING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB I'VE EVER HAD ON OUR CAMPUS.

HE WAS THE FIRST FACULTY TO TEACH IMPORT TECHNOLOGY TO OUR STUDENTS AND DEVELOPED SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP THAT WE HAVE TODAY WITH AUDI, MERCEDES-BENZ, NISSAN, SUBARU.

THOSE ARE ALL THE RESULTS OF LEONARD'S GREAT WORK.

AND BY COINCIDENCE, YESTERDAY WE GOT AN EMAIL FROM KIA AND HYUNDAI TO BECOME ONE OF THEIR PARTNERS.

AND WE KNOW THAT THAT WAS AGAIN, THROUGH THE HARD WORK OF LEONARD.

SO PLEASE EXTEND YOUR THANKS TO LEONARD FOR HIS SERVICE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.

DOCTOR. THANK YOU.

OH, OKAY.

WE'LL SEE. IF I CAN SUM UP 17 YEARS IN ABOUT 15 SECONDS.

AS YOU'VE ALREADY HEARD, MOST OF I THINK WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY, I STARTED TEACHING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE IN 2006.

BEFORE THAT, I SPENT 25 YEARS WORKING IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY FOR TWO AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURERS.

I'VE HAD MANY DIFFERENT ASSIGNMENTS DURING THAT TIME, SOME VERY DIFFICULT, HOWEVER.

TEACHING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE HAS BEEN THE HARDEST AND MOST CHALLENGING OF MY CAREER, BUT ALSO THE MOST IMPORTANT AND THE MOST GRATIFYING.

IN THESE LAST 17 YEARS, I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP MANY STUDENTS PREPARE FOR A CAREER THAT'S BEEN VERY GOOD TO ME.

I'VE LEARNED A LOT HERE.

I'VE SHARED A LOT, AND IT'S BEEN A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM, AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE MY TIME HERE.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THE GREAT EXPERIENCE.

THANK YOU.

NEXT ITEM IS 2.04.

[2.04 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of 2023 Excellence in Placement Honoree - Black English Enrollment]

INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATION, WHICH IS THE RECOGNITION OF 2023 EXCELLENCE IN PLACEMENT HONOREE BLACK ENGLISH ENROLLMENT.

RECOGNIZING EMOJI SUCCESS PROGRAM FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS.

[00:30:01]

THIS IS A VERY, VERY, VERY IMPORTANT AWARD AND RECOGNITION.

AND I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE CELEBRATION WITH PROFESSOR CAGNOLATTI.

HE WAS DRESSED SUPER SHARP AND WAS NETWORKING LIKE I NEVER SEEN HIM BEFORE, EVEN THOUGH HE SAID HE WAS SHY AND HE DIDN'T LIKE THAT KIND OF EVENT.

BUT HE WAS ON IT.

SO WELL DONE.

BUT THE IMPORTANT PART OF ALL THESE IS THE RECOGNITION THAT WE RECEIVE BY THE CAMPAIGN FOR COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY.

AND IT READS THE CAMPAIGN FOR COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY RECOGNIZES CERRITOS COLLEGE FOR LEADING THE WAY IN BLACK TRANSFER LEVEL ENGLISH ENROLLMENT, SUPPORTING 100% OF BLACK STUDENTS ON YOUR CAMPUS TO ACCESS TRANSFER LEVEL ENGLISH FOR THEIR FIRST ENGLISH COURSE.

IT SOUNDS REALLY GOOD, BUT THE IMPACT GOES WAY BEYOND ON WHAT IT SOUNDS HERE.

A STATISTICALLY, THOSE STUDENTS WHO PLAYS DIRECTLY INTO ENGLISH AND MATHEMATICS ARE TWO AND A HALF FOLD MORE SUCCESSFUL, MORE LIKELY TO COMPLETE THEIR ACADEMIC CAREER AT CERRITOS COLLEGE, MORE LIKELY TO TRANSFER AND MORE LIKELY TO GRADUATE FROM THEIR TRANSFER INSTITUTION.

FOR THE WORK, THE OR TEAM A PNEUMONIA BACK AND OR ENGLISH FACULTY ARE DOING IS NOT JUST PUTTING THE STUDENTS IN ENGLISH COURSES, BUT IS QUITE LITERALLY CHANGING THE ART FOR THOSE STUDENTS TO GRADUATE. AND FOR THAT, I WOULD LIKE TO TRULY RECOGNIZE ALL OF OUR UMOJA TEAM MEMBERS, ALL OF OUR BACK MEMBERS AND ALL OF OUR ENGLISH FACULTY, BECAUSE AS USUALLY IT TAKES A VILLAGE.

SO PLEASE COME AND BE RECOGNIZED.

THANK YOU. I THANK YOU FOR IN.

PEOPLE HAVE A HARD TIME.

ALL RIGHT. ALL RIGHT.

SUPER MARIO TO COME FOR. I GOT YOU.

YEAH, SURE DO. WOW, THAT'S REALLY HELPFUL.

SQUEEZE ON IN. THERE YOU GO.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE. YOU KNOW, JUST PRESS THE BUTTON.

FEEL CONFIDENT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WE HAVE ONE MORE. YOU HAVE THREE MORE.

YEAH, THREE MORE. KEVIN.

KEVIN? KEVIN DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO COME UP HERE.

KEVIN IS PRETENDING THAT THAT ISN'T HIS NAME.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND. COME ON UP HERE, KEVIN.

OFFICER CAPTAIN HILL.

COME ON UP HERE. RIGHT AFTER THAT, TOO.

OFFICER GREEN TO SEE YOU EVER DO IT.

ARE THEY GOING BACK? MAYBE.

WE NEED A WIDE LENS NOW.

HERE WE GO. HERE WE GO.

THANK YOU. THE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. OKAY, I GOT IT.

I HAVE NEVER MET.

PROFESSOR CAGNOLATTI IS TRYING TO MAKE HIS WAY OUT, BUT I HAVE NEVER MET AN ENGLISH FACULTY THAT ISN'T WILLING TO PROVIDE SOME WORDS.

SO PLEASE. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, DR.

FIERRO. AND HE'S DEFINITELY RIGHT.

I DID HAVE A CHANCE TO ACTUALLY THANK THE CAMPAIGN FOR COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY, JUST FOR THIS AMAZING RECOGNITION.

AND I'M SO GLAD THAT HE ACTUALLY CALLED THE ENTIRE EMOJA AND BEC FAMILY UP HERE, BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CROSSED MY MIND WHEN WE WERE UP THERE WAS.

I'M THE ONLY ONE. BUT THIS IS THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF WHAT IT TOOK TO ACTUALLY GET THIS RIGHT HERE.

THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN WITHOUT WHAT YOU SAW UP HERE IN EMOJI THAT WE SAY THAT IT TAKES A VILLAGE.

AND THERE'S ALSO, TOO, ANOTHER PHRASE THAT REALLY HELPS TO CAPTURE THE CAUSES FOR THIS KIND OF EFFECT.

AND THAT'S IF YOU WANT TO GO FAST, GO ALONE.

[00:35:01]

IF YOU WANT TO GO FAR, GO TOGETHER.

SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, EVEN THOUGH WE DO HAVE THIS GREAT AND AMAZING RECOGNITION, I THINK OF THIS JUST NOT ONLY AS AN AS AN ENGLISH FACULTY AND AN EMOJI REPRESENTATIVE, BUT ALSO TO AS SOMEBODY WHO'S A CHAMPION FOR EQUITY.

I THINK OF THIS AS A SOLID AND FIRM FIRST STEP IN THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES FOR US TO CONTINUE THE WORK OF CLOSING DOWN THE EQUITY GAPS.

THERE'S MORE WORK FOR US TO DO, BUT THIS IS A GREAT START.

THIS IS A GREAT SIGN AND SYMBOL THAT WE HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK TO GET TO THIS POINT.

SO WE'RE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

LET'S KEEP THE FIRE GOING BECAUSE WE ALREADY GOT THE FLAME.

ALL WE NEED IS THE GAS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE EMOJI VILLAGE.

THE BOARD DOES RECOGNIZE THE IMPACT THAT YOU HAVE ON OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR SUCCESS.

SO WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU DO.

AND WE'RE HERE TO SUPPORT YOU IN ANY WAY WE CAN.

SO CONGRATULATIONS.

WELL DESERVED. AND NEXT ITEM IS 2.05 INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATION

[2.05 Institutional Presentation: Data Snippet from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, Planning, and Grants]

FROM DR.

ROCK REGARDING AWARDS AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.

THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

SO TONIGHT I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU THE NUMBER OF AWARDS AND DIVE INTO THE DATA A LITTLE DEEPER AS WELL.

THERE WE GO. GOT IT.

OKAY. SO THIS IS SHOWING THE NUMBER OF AWARDS OVER TIME.

SO THE DARK BLUE BAR ON THE BOTTOM ARE THE NUMBER OF CERTIFICATES.

THE GRAY BAR IN THE MIDDLE ARE THE NUMBER OF ASSOCIATE OF ARTS AND ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREES.

AND THE BRIGHT BLUE BAR AT THE TOP IS THE NUMBER OF ASSOCIATE DEGREES FOR TRANSFER.

SO YOU CAN SEE IN THE LAST ACADEMIC YEAR WE GREW BY OVER A THOUSAND AWARDS TO OUR STUDENTS.

SO WE AWARDED 6244 AWARDS, WHICH IS A 20% INCREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS ACADEMIC YEAR.

SO WHEN WE BREAK THIS INFORMATION OUT BY DISCIPLINE.

SO WE HAVE THE 2022, 23, IT'S OKAY AWARDS.

AND THEN THE 2122, YOU CAN SEE THAT OUR GENERAL EDUCATION AND BUSINESS EDUCATION DISCIPLINES MAKE UP ABOUT 50% LAST ACADEMIC YEAR OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF AWARDS. AND THEN FOLLOWING THAT IS THE LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION WITH THE MOST AWARDS, HEALTH OCCUPATIONS AND THEN HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES.

SO WE BREAK THIS OUT EVEN FURTHER BY DEPARTMENT.

AGAIN, WE SEE GENERAL EDUCATION WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF AWARDS, AND THEN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AWARDED ABOUT 20% OF THE OVERALL AWARDS FOR THE LAST ACADEMIC YEAR.

AND THEN FOLLOWING THAT IS INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMS. AND SO THAT'S A SUBSET OF THE LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION.

SO THAT DEGREE, IN ADDITION TO A DISCIPLINE AND THEN CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND NATURAL SCIENCES.

SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT JUST BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT AS A WHOLE.

70% OF THOSE DEGREES ARE AWARDED FROM THESE TWO CERTIFICATES AND ONE ADT.

SO THE BUSINESS ESSENTIAL CERTIFICATE MADE UP ALMOST 30%, FOLLOWED BY THE RETAIL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE AND THEN THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, ADT.

SO I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE FACULTY WHO ARE REALLY BEHIND THIS WORK AND THE BUMP THAT WE SEE IN THE NUMBER OF DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES.

SO EVERY SEMESTER THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION REACHES OUT TO IUP TO GET A CONTACT LIST AND THEY LOOK AT ENROLLMENT AND THEY IDENTIFY THE COURSES THAT STUDENTS STILL NEED TO COMPLETE THEIR DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE.

SO THEY'RE OUTREACHING TO THESE STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE MAKING IT TO THE FINISH LINE.

SO I LOOK FORWARD TO THE ADDITIONAL WORK THAT WE'RE DOING ON CAMPUS TO INCREASE TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE OUR AWARDS.

SO AS WE SEE, THIS IS SIGNIFICANT EFFORT, SIGNIFICANT INCREASE ON OUR PERFORMANCE.

AND WHAT WE'RE STARTING TO DO RIGHT NOW IS DISSECTING THE DATA BASED ON AREAS OF SUCCESS.

I THINK WE NEED TO CHANGE A LITTLE BIT THE WAY THAT WE LOOK AT WHAT WE DO BECAUSE WE SPEND A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TIME LOOKING AND EXAMINING THE AREAS THAT ARE NOT PERFORMING TO THE LEVEL THAT WE WANT TO SEE PERFORMING.

AND I THINK IT'S TIME FOR US TO LOOK AT EVERYONE THAT IS PERFORMING AT A VERY HIGH LEVEL, CELEBRATE THEM, RECOGNIZE THEM, AND TO

[00:40:05]

LEARN WHAT IS IT THAT THEY DO THAT MAKE THEM SO SUCCESSFUL, SO WHEN WE LOOK, FOR INSTANCE, AT THE BUSINESS DEPARTMENT, THEY HAVE BEEN IN A GROWTH TRAJECTORY FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS.

SO AS WE DIG MORE, WE'RE STARTING TO SEE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES ON HOW THEY APPROACH THE USE OF DATA.

SO AS DR.

ROCK WAS MENTIONING, LOOKING AT THEIR CONTACT LIST, LOOKING AT WHERE THE STUDENTS ARE AND START REACHING OUT TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE GOING TO FINISH OR WHAT THEY NEED TO FINISH, AND PUTTING THEM IN THAT TRACK TO SUCCESS.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE RETAIL MANAGEMENT WEBSITE, YOU START SEEING THAT THEY ARE VERY INTENTIONAL TO THE INFORMATION THAT THEY PUT THERE, THE WAY THEY USE PROGRAM MAPPER AND THE WAY THEY STRUCTURE NOT ONLY THEIR CLASSES BUT HOW THEY OFFER THEIR COURSES EVERY SEMESTER.

AND WHEN WE LOOK AT EVERY DEPARTMENT, THEY HAVE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SUCCESS.

WE'RE STARTING TO SEE THOSE SMALL DETAILS THAT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DATA AS AN AGGREGATE, GET LOST.

SO SOME OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO DURING THE 2324 ACADEMIC YEAR IS HIGHLIGHTING, CELEBRATING THESE PROGRAMS AND TRYING TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE AS TO HOW TO SUPPORT STUDENTS.

IS STRONGLY SO WE CAN REPLICATE THAT ACROSS OTHER ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES.

IN OTHER WORDS, WE HAVE EXPERTISE ON CAMPUS OF HOW TO DO WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO ACROSS THE CAMPUS, AND WE WANT TO CAPITALIZE ON THAT KNOWLEDGE TO SHARE IT WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS.

ONE OF THE INTERESTING PARTS ABOUT THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE IS THAT THEY MAKE UP A LITTLE LESS THAN 25% OF THE DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES THAT WE AWARDED, BUT THEY ARE LESS THAN 20% OF THE ENROLLMENT AT THE INSTITUTION.

THAT IS HUGE.

SO WE'RE GOING TO TRY TO BREAK DOWN AREAS OF ENROLLMENT, ENROLLMENT AND COMPLETION AND HOW WE CAN ACTUALLY PROPEL EVERY DEPARTMENT FORWARD BY SHARING WHAT THE HIGH PERFORMING DEPARTMENTS HAVE DISCOVERED ON HELPING STUDENTS. SO THAT IS PART OF THE BACKGROUND AND THE INTENT OF THE DATA PRESENTED TODAY.

ASIDE OF OBVIOUSLY BRAGGING AND CELEBRATING THE ENTIRE CAMPUS FOR THE TREMENDOUS ACHIEVEMENT OF THIS PREVIOUS YEAR.

ANY COMMENTS FROM TRUSTEES? I JUST WANT TO SAY I APPLAUD THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT.

VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT DR.

FARROW SAID. DATA GOES A LONG WAY.

AND SO FOR THEM TO RETRIEVE THAT DATA, STUDY THE DATA AND THEN PLAN ACCORDINGLY, IT IS DEFINITELY WORKING FOR THEM SO THAT THEY HAVE CREATED A CYCLE OF CONTINUOUS SUCCESS.

AND SO I DO HOPE THAT THIS SERVES AS A MODEL BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, DATA IS VERY IMPORTANT AND ONCE YOU DIG INTO YOUR DATA, YOU DISAGGREGATE THE DATA, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO REALLY DETERMINE WHERE THE NEED IS.

AND SO, AGAIN, KUDOS TO THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT.

THANK YOU, AMBER, FOR THE DATA.

ANYONE ELSE.

I HAD A QUESTION.

ASIDE FROM WHAT THE BUSINESS DEPARTMENT IS DOING, WERE THERE ANY OTHER TRENDS THAT YOU FOUND? CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER TO EVERYBODY THAT HELPED THE STUDENTS AND INCREASE THE NUMBERS EXPONENTIALLY? SO I WAS JUST CURIOUS, WAS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT WE FOUND WAS SUCCESSFUL IN TERMS OF CONTRIBUTING TO THE LARGE NUMBER OF CERTIFICATES BEING GIVEN? YEAH, I THINK DR.

BREMER ISN'T HERE, BUT I BELIEVE THE WORK THAT THEY DID IN ENROLLMENT SERVICES BOOSTS THE NUMBER OF GE CERTIFICATES SO THAT GETSI AND THE CSU GENERAL EDUCATION CERTIFICATE. SHE'S BACK.

SO MAYBE SHE CAN TALK MORE ABOUT THAT.

I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID, BUT I KNOW THERE WAS EFFORTS AROUND THE GE CERTIFICATES.

WHAT DID YOU ALL DO LAST YEAR TO BIG DIFFERENCES? YES. SO WHEN YOU START OUT WITH CSU AND THE UC CERTIFICATES, THEN MOST PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE GETTING AN A ARE GOING TO FIT INTO ONE OF THOSE UNLESS ARE YOU DOING THE LOCAL? RIGHT. SO AUTO AWARDING.

SO WHEN WE KEEP SAYING THAT IT TAKES EVERYONE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN AND WE SAY, OKAY, THE FACULTY ARE DOING THIS, BUT THEN WE HAVE TO LOOK AT WHAT OUR COUNSELORS AND OUR MISSION RECORD AND FINANCIAL AID ARE DOING, BECAUSE WITHOUT THE APPROPRIATE SYSTEM, IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO IDENTIFY THE STUDENTS THAT ARE READY FOR GRADUATION. SO, FOR INSTANCE, ON BUSINESS, WE ALREADY DISCUSSED HOW THEY ORGANIZE EVERYTHING.

THEN WE TALKED ABOUT THE WORK THAT IS BEING DONE AND GUIDED PATHWAYS WHICH IS BEING MAXIMIZED TO THE FULLEST IN THE BUSINESS DEPARTMENT.

[00:45:06]

AND THEN WE START LOOKING AT THE OUTER AWARDING, HOW WE IDENTIFY THE STUDENTS THAT ARE READY TO GRADUATE AND MOVE ON.

AND WE JUST IMPLEMENTED A STEP ONE AND WE ARE MOVING INTO HOPEFULLY BY NEXT YEAR, HAVE THE SECOND PART OF THE OUTER BOARDING AND OUR ABILITY TO EVALUATE THE TRANSCRIPTS A LITTLE MORE.

AUTOMATIZED AND WE DO TODAY, WE SHOULD PRODUCE THIS ADDITIONAL POSITIVE RESULTS.

SO THE WORK THAT IS TAKING PLACE IS QUITE LITERALLY A COLLECTIVE EFFORT.

SO WHEN WE SAY IT TAKES ALL OF US, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE STEPS IN WHICH ALMOST EVERY GROUP ON CAMPUS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED TO, TO GET US HERE.

ANYONE ELSE.

THANK YOU, DR.

ROCK, FOR THE GREAT NEWS AND PRESENTATION.

AND NEXT ITEM IS OUR CONSENT CALENDAR.

[3. Consent Items]

WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO PULL SOME ITEMS? I'D LIKE TO PULL ITEM 3.30.

3.30. I WOULD LIKE TO PULL ITEMS 3.22 TO 3.26 AND ITEM 3.33.

3.33. YES, 3.33.

SO WE'LL PULL 3.22 TO 3.263 .30 AND 3.33.

ANYONE ELSE? OKAY. SO CAN ANYONE MOVE FOR APPROVAL FOR CONSENT CALENDAR WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THOSE ITEMS. SO MOVED. SECOND.

GOT A SECOND? THANK YOU.

WILL WE GET A IS THERE ANY OBJECTION? ANY OBJECTION? SORRY.

HEARING NONE.

CONSENT CALENDAR IS APPROVED, EXCEPT THOSE ITEMS. AND WOULD YOU LIKE A PRESENTATION ON THE.

AND WELL, I GUESS WE'LL START WITH 3.22 TO 3.26.

[ Items 3.22 - 3.26]

OKAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

3.22 THROUGH 3.26 ARE THE ITEMS RELATED TO OUR FOOD SERVICES CONTRACT.

AND I WANT TO JUST TO SEE ABOUT GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE DATA ON HOW MUCH MONEY THIS IS ACTUALLY MAKING GENERATING TOWARDS THE COLLEGE. AND MY CONCERN IS, IS I THINK HOW I READ IT, IT'S A THREE YEAR AGREEMENT WHERE WE WOULD HAVE A PHASED IN, INCREASED COMMISSION BACK TO THE COLLEGE, GOING BACK UP TO THE 12%.

I'M JUST WONDERING, AGAIN, I CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SMALL BUSINESSES, MANY OF THEM WHO ARE PART OF OUR COMMUNITY AS BUSINESSES WITHIN THE CITY THAT WE REPRESENT. AND I'M JUST WONDERING, ARE THEY GETTING FOOD? ARE THEY GETTING TRAFFIC? ARE THERE SALES ANYWHERE NEAR WHERE THEY WERE BEFORE COVID? AND I GUESS I'M JUST CONCERNED BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IF WE SHOULD BE GOING ALL THE WAY UP TO BACK TO THAT 12% IF THEY REALLY HAVEN'T RECOVERED WITH THEIR SALES AND WITH THEIR TRAFFIC. SO THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT.

YEAH. I THANK YOU, TRUSTEE PEREZ.

SO RIGHT NOW, WE STILL UNDER THE AGREEMENT THAT WE DECIDED NOT TO CHARGE FEES FOR THE OPERATION SINCE WE WERE TRYING TO WAIT FOR THE RETURN TO CAMPUS.

AS WE HAVE BEGINNING TO RETURN, THERE HAS BEEN SOME LEVEL OF TRAFFIC, BUT NOT NEAR THE LEVEL OF TRAFFIC THAT WE EXPERIENCED PRIOR TO COVID.

SO WHILE THEY ARE UP TO A POINT, GETTING BUSINESS IS NOT NEAR THE THE LEVEL WHERE THEY WERE.

SO WHAT WE ENTERED IN CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM, RATHER THAN GOING STRAIGHT TO THE 12% THAT WE HAD MANAGED IN THE PAST, WE DECIDED TO HAVE AN SCALE DEPENDING OF.

THEIR SALES ESCALATING ONCE AGAIN UNTIL 2025 TO GO BACK TO THE TRADITIONAL RATES. OBVIOUSLY, THIS CAN BE EVALUATED IF WE ENTER A SITUATION IN WHICH THE SALES ARE NOT SUCH THAT THEY CAN SUSTAIN THAT MARGIN.

THE OTHER PART TO REMEMBER IS THAT THIS HAS HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE REVENUE FOR HCC BECAUSE THE REVENUE GENERATED OF THE SALES FROM OUR LOCATIONS IS ALLOCATED ALMOST IN ITS ENTIRETY TO HCC.

SO THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO COLLECT ANY REVENUES FROM THE VENDORS, WHICH HAS IMPACTED THE OPERATIONAL BUDGET DRAMATICALLY.

SO IN ORDER TO HELP HCC ALSO RECOVER SOME OF THE REVENUE, WE ENTERED INTO THIS STEP LADDER AGREEMENT.

[00:50:05]

OBVIOUSLY THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM TO TO REEVALUATE IT, TO DETERMINE WHERE WE ARE A YEAR FROM NOW AS WE ENTER INTO THE THE RETURN, A MORE FULL RETURN TO CAMPUS AS WE BEGIN THE NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR.

ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE EXTENDING THEIR CONTRACTS BECAUSE SOME OF THEM MADE SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENTS ON THE FACILITIES, RENOVATIONS AND SO ON. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE, OBVIOUSLY, TO RECOVER FROM SINCE SINCE COVID.

SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE PROVIDE THEM WITH A SUFFICIENT LENGTH OF TIME TO BE ABLE TO RECOVER THEIR INVESTMENT, BECAUSE AT THIS POINT, FOR SOME OF THEM COULD BE ACTUALLY AT A LOSS.

OKAY, SO THE.

SO I'M LOOKING. I'M JUST LOOKING.

I ASSUME ALL THE AGREEMENTS ARE THE SAME WITH EACH OF THE CONNECTORS, RIGHT? OKAY. SO WHAT IT SAYS IS THAT 5%.

FROM JULY 1ST TILL THE 5% WILL BE FROM JULY 1ST TO JUNE 30TH OF NEXT MONTH.

SO DOES THAT ENTIRE 5% GO TO ASK OR IS THAT A SPLIT? I BELIEVE WE AS A DISTRICT TAKE THE OPERATIONAL COSTS.

THE FACILITY MAINTENANCE, I THINK IS LESS THAN 10%, IF I REMEMBER, OF THE TOTAL.

SO I THINK HIS 90 PLUS PERCENT THAT GOES STRAIGHT TO ASSISI.

OKAY. SO DO WE HAVE ANY SENSE FOR LIKE WHAT THE DOLLAR AMOUNT IS OF THAT? LIKE, HOW MUCH HOW MUCH MONEY ARE THEY? I KNOW. I REALIZE NOW WE WEREN'T COLLECTING ANY, BUT BACK WHEN WE SIGNED THE CONTRACT ORIGINALLY IN 2019 ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY WAS THIS GENERATING TOWARDS ASSISI AND TO COVER THE COLLEGE'S ADMIN COSTS.

I WILL HAVE TO GET BACK TO YOU ON THESE, BUT I WILL SAY THERE WAS WELL OVER 100 GRAND A YEAR.

OKAY. YEAH, I DEFINITELY THREE YEAR CONTRACT BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT OUR SMALL BUSINESSES NEED CERTAINTY IN THIS TIME FRAME.

I'M JUST NOT SURE IF I'M COMFORTABLE SAYING YES, LET'S GO AHEAD AND RETURN TO 12% WITHOUT SEEING THOSE NUMBERS AND KIND OF SEEING HOW HOW THE TRAFFIC IS.

SO I THINK WHEN THESE CONTRACTS COME BACK, I WOULD ASK MAYBE THAT THEY COME BACK, THAT WE WOULD GET SOME OF THE DATA, LIKE THE FOOT TRAFFIC DATA, LIKE AGAIN, LIKE HOW MUCH SALES, HOW MUCH STUDENTS ARE VISITING THEM.

AGAIN, JUST TO SEE JUST TO GET A SENSE FOR WHAT THAT IS, BECAUSE I THINK THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

I THINK THAT IS FAIR.

I THINK WE CAN LOOK AT THE NUMBERS A YEAR FROM NOW AND DETERMINE IF THEY ARE COMING BACK AND THEN REEVALUATE HOW TO ADJUST FROM THAT POINT ON.

YEAH, I THINK THAT'S FAIR.

AND AGAIN, I THINK THE EXTENDING THE CONTRACT SO THEY ARE ABLE TO RECOVER THEIR INVESTMENT IS ALSO VERY VALUABLE.

SO CAN WE MODIFY? WELL, NOT NECESSARILY MODIFY, BUT PUT A NOTE THAT WE HAVE TO BRING BACK REPORT BACK IN A YEAR FOR TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE NUMBERS CONTINUE TO BE ACCURATE.

OKAY, NEXT ITEM 3.30.

I WOULD MOVE APPROVAL. I MOVE APPROVAL OF ITEMS 3.22 TO 3.26.

CORRECT. OKAY.

CAN I GET A SECOND? SECOND. ANY OBJECTIONS? OKAY. THOSE ITEMS APPROVED.

THE NEXT ONE IS 3.30.

[3.30 Approval of Facilities Use Agreement with Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District]

SO I'M GLAD THAT WE CAN CONTINUE WORKING WITH NORWALK, LA MIRADA AND THE ADULT SCHOOL RIGHT ON THE COUNTY BORDER.

IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING AND RECOLLECTION THAT PRIOR TO COVID WE WERE LOOKING TO HAVE SOME LAB SPACE AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER CLASSROOM FOR A TOTAL OF FOUR SPACES AT THAT FACILITY TO USE.

SO I'M WONDERING HOW THOSE WHAT THE DIRECTION OF OUR COLLEGE AND OUR NEEDS ARE GOING TO BE, ESPECIALLY AS WE CONTINUE TO GROW.

MUCH MORE. YEAH.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE LEWIS.

SO WE ARE BRINGING THIS AGREEMENT BACK, AN EXTENSION OF FIVE ADDITIONAL YEARS AS THE CONTRACT WAS EXPIRING.

THIS WILL ALLOW US TO DO ADDITIONAL PLANNING.

AT THE MOMENT, THE IMMEDIATE PLAN IS, IS TO REESTABLISH THE PREVIOUS FTES.

WE WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FULLY REESTABLISH FTES IN, WELL, BOTH LOCATIONS.

LA MIRADA AND OUR MAIN CAMPUS, WE'RE STILL IN RECOVERY.

SO THAT WILL BE THE MAIN AGREEMENT.

THE SECOND PART OF THAT PERHAPS WILL BE MODIFICATION FOR LAB SPACE.

HOWEVER, WE ARE FIRST LOOKING AT ANY MODIFICATIONS OF LAB SPACE THAT NEED TO TAKE PLACE ON THE MAIN CAMPUS.

AND BASED ON ENROLLMENT, WE WILL DO.

[00:55:03]

ANY ANY RENOVATIONS IN LA MIRADA.

SO AT THE MOMENT THE STRATEGY IS.

BASIC TRY TO BRING THE ENROLLMENT BACK.

WE HAVE FACULTY MEMBER ALREADY ASSIGNED TO CONTINUES TO HAVE MOST OF HIS LOAD THERE AND WE ARE QUITE QUITE INVESTED IN MAKING SURE THAT THOSE CLASSES MAKE AND CONTINUE TO TO GROW THERE.

WE ARE LOOKING ALSO INTO PERHAPS MODIFYING SOME OF THE OFFERINGS TO SEE IF THOSE BECOME MORE ATTRACTIVE WENT IN LA MIRADA. BUT I THINK THE CHALLENGING COMPONENT OF THIS IS THE AT THE MOMENT, BASED ON HOW STUDENTS ARE ENROLLING IN CLASSES, WHICH IS ABOUT 30 OR SO PERCENT FULLY ON CAMPUS, ABOUT SAME SPLIT ONLINE I'M ABOUT SEMI SPLIT MULTIPLE MODALITIES IS LIVING VERY, VERY LOW CLASSROOM UTILIZATION HERE IN THE MAIN CAMPUS.

SO THE NEED OF HAVING OVERFLOW CLASSROOMS IS CHANGING.

SO WE NEED TO KIND OF WAIT THE ADDITIONAL YEAR TO DETERMINE WHERE THE ENROLLMENT IN BOTH PLACES IS GOING TO BE.

I GET THAT.

AND THAT'S IT'S A DIFFERENT WORLD THAN IT WAS PRIOR, THAT'S FOR SURE.

BUT CERTAINLY, YOU KNOW, THE LAB SPACE AND MANY OF THOSE OTHER SPACES OUT THERE ARE JUST NOT BEING USED AT ALL, MUCH LESS UNDER UTILIZED.

SO I THINK THAT'S CERTAINLY SOMETHING THAT I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT WE'RE NOT LOCKED IN TO ONLY THOSE TWO CLASSROOMS FOR TWO YEARS AND WE CAN MODIFY THE AGREEMENT AS OUR NEEDS AND AMBITIONS GROW.

YEAH, THEY HAVE BEEN VERY RECEPTIVE TO CONVERSATIONS, SO I DON'T SEE ANY OF THAT CHANGING, AT LEAST IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

AND WHAT CLASSES DO YOU HAPPEN TO REMEMBER? I BELIEVE CURRENTLY WE HAVE MATHEMATICS AND MATH AND JEANNETTE CLASSES AS WELL. OKAY. FOR FUTURE SEMESTERS.

YEAH. OKAY. THANK YOU.

I'D LIKE TO MENTION I THINK IT COMES FROM OUR ACTUAL CLASSROOM.

BUT I WAS LEFT NOT.

IF WE ASK OUR WIFE TO LIKE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING OR FOLKS.

OUR FACULTY WILL TELL YOU WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH LAB SPACE.

I THINK THEY ALSO THOUGHT A LOT OF WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THIS.

CERTAINLY SOMETHING TO EXPLORE WITH ALL THE NON UTILIZED CLASSES AT THE ADULT SCHOOL THERE.

OKAY. CAN I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE 3.30.

SO MOVED. SECOND.

OKAY. FIRST IN A SECOND.

ANY. OBJECTIONS.

SORRY. NO OBJECTIONS.

OKAY. ITEMS APPROVED.

THE NEXT ONE IS 3.33.

[3.33 Employment of Full-Time, First-Year Contract (Probationary) Faculty]

YES. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I JUST WANTED TO PULL THIS OUT BECAUSE I THINK IT'S ACTUALLY VERY EXCITING BECAUSE WITH THIS ITEM, WE ARE HIRING 21 NEW FACULTY MEMBERS.

RIGHT. I MEAN, I KNOW THIS IS A VERY LONG PROCESS TO GET TO THIS POINT, SO I WANTED JUST TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE ADVERTISING, THE HIRING PROCESS, HOW THE RECRUITMENT, WHAT OUR DIVERSITY NUMBERS ARE FIRST.

AND THEN I THINK THE OTHER KEY PIECE THAT, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, WHICH YOU HEAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN, IS ONCE WE GET THESE FACULTY MEMBERS JOINING OUR CAMPUS, HOW DO WE SUPPORT THEM? HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE THAT THEY STAY? HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THAT THEY CONTINUE TO STAY AND HAVE WONDERFUL CAREERS LIKE OR RETIREES HERE? SO THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT HERE SOME.

SO WE ACTUALLY ARE STILL COMPLETING A COUPLE.

WE ARE VERY EXCITED. PRIORITIZATION WE ACTUALLY HAD.

COUPLE. FOR VARIOUS REASONS.

BOTH THE HAVE CLEARED.

IT'S DAY. WELL, SO WE ARE STILL VERY EXCITED ABOUT PEOPLE HERE.

PROCESSING RECRUITMENT VARIED AND I DO.

A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT.

WITH OUR PARTNERS.

OH, I NEED TO REVISE SPECIFIC DEPARTMENTS, FOR EXAMPLE, IN WOODWORKING THAT IS VERY SPECIFIC TO HANDYMAN.

SO WE UTILIZE THEM.

THAT TARGETED. OBVIOUSLY, WE UTILIZE THE PRIMARY.

YOU WALKED IN. SO WE GOT.

A WIDE MARKETING.

THAT ACTUALLY ELEVATED A LOT OF.

[01:00:03]

ENGLISH HAD ALMOST.

APPLICANT POOL IN 250.

A LOT OF OUR POSITIONS FOLLOWING THAT VARIED ANYWHERE FROM ABOUT 30 TO 50.

UH, WE HAD A COUPLE THAT WERE HARDER TO.

HAVE WORKED WITH OUR ONLINE.

DIVERSE ORGANIZATIONS THAT WE PARTNER WITH.

WE ALSO ARE.

IF IF I MAY ADD, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT IN EVERY SINGLE SEARCH.

IT WAS IT WAS A LOT, BUT IT WAS NICE TO BE ABLE TO TALK TO SO MANY PEOPLE AND LOOK AT SO MANY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF HOW THE QUESTIONS THAT WE WERE FORMULATING WERE BEING ANSWERED. THE QUESTIONS THAT WE FORMULATE ARE NOT EASY AND ARE ALL ABOUT FAITH AND CULTURE AND WHAT WE ARE ABOUT.

SO, SO THERE ARE NO THINGS THAT YOU THAT IS A PRECISE CORRECT ANSWER IS JUST A WAY HOW YOU FEEL, HOW YOU HANDLE THINGS.

AND THAT DEMONSTRATES WHETHER OR NOT YOU ALIGN WITH OUR VALUES.

SO IT WAS REALLY GOOD TO SEE THAT.

BUT THE PART THAT I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT IS THE CONSISTENTLY IN THE SEARCHES WE HAD APPLICANTS AND FINALISTS THAT WERE FULL TIME FACULTY, TENURED, FULL TIME FACULTY FROM NEIGHBORING INSTITUTIONS AND EVEN OUTSIDE OF THE AREA TRYING TO COME AND WORK AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.

IT WAS VERY CONSISTENT ALMOST IN EVERY SEARCH.

AND SOME OF THE NAMES HERE THAT YOU'LL SEE, THEY COME FROM SOME OF OUR NEIGHBORING INSTITUTIONS.

THEY WERE ALREADY TENURED FACULTY SWITCHING TO WORK AT CERRITOS COLLEGE, WHICH I THINK IT SPEAKS VERY, VERY WELL.

OF ALL OF US COLLECTIVELY, THE THE OR NEIGHBORING INSTITUTIONS LOOK AT US AS A DESIRABLE PLACE.

SO THE GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT YOU SEE BEFORE YOU IN THIS LIST AND SOME OF THE SOME OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE WAITING TO BE APPROVED AND CLEARED THROUGH OUR HR PROCESS ARE THE BEST QUALIFIED PEOPLE, NOT ONLY IN THE CLASSROOM, BUT PEOPLE THAT

[01:05:03]

MEET OR CULTURE AND THE WAY THAT WE ARE MOVING AHEAD.

SO IT'S REALLY EXCITING TO SEE THIS NEW GROUP OF PEOPLE COMING ON BOARD.

AND A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL, ALL THE FACULTY, CLASSIFIED MANAGERS AND EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT TOUCHED THE SELECTION PROCESS BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN A HUGE LIFT.

BUT BUT EVERYONE HAS DONE A FANTASTIC JOB.

AND WE ALSO ADDED TWO OTHER COMPONENTS TO OUR RECRUITMENT.

ALL RIGHT. I'LL GO AHEAD AND MOVE THE ITEM, PLEASE.

OKAY. SO DO YOU HAVE A SECOND? SECOND. ANY OBJECTIONS? OKAY. 3.33 IS APPROVED, AND THE NEXT ITEM IS 4.01 SECOND READING AND CONSIDERATION OF ADOPTION

[4.01 Second Reading and Consideration of Adoption: Revised Board Policy 7600 titled Campus Police]

REVISED BOARD POLICY 7600 TITLED CAMPUS POLICE.

MOVE! APPROVAL. CAN I GET A SECOND? SECOND. ANY OBJECTIONS? OKAY. ITEM APPROVED.

THE NEXT ITEM IS 5.01 REPORTS AND COMMENTS FROM DISTRICT OFFICIALS.

[5.01 Reports and Comments from District Officials]

WE'LL START WITH OUR NEW TRUSTEE JACKIE SCOTT.

OKAY. AND NEXT, TRUSTEE LOUIS.

ALL RIGHT. WELL, I WANT TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST ON IN THIS LINEUP ANYWAY, TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR TABLE AND THE DICE HERE.

THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND TO GO AROUND AND JUST DO AN ELECTION.

ELECTIONS ARE HARD. WE ALL KNOW THAT.

AND, YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY TALKING TO YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS AND, YOU KNOW, TELLING THEM THAT YOU'RE YOU'RE GOING TO BE ON HERE.

YOU'RE GOING TO BE AN ADVOCATE.

YOU'RE GOING TO BE INVOLVED IN ALL OF THESE DISCUSSIONS.

AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD AND LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR STRONG ADVOCACY AND PASSION FOR THIS POSITION AND GETTING TO KNOW YOU OVER THE NEXT YEAR.

SO THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU.

I WANT TO ASK THAT WE CLOSE OUR MEETING TONIGHT IN MEMORY OF DEE HENRY, WHO WAS A VERY IMPACTFUL WOMAN IN CERTAINLY THE LA MIRADA AREA, BUT EVEN NATIONALLY SHE WAS.

SO SHE TAUGHT TENNIS AT BIOLA FOR 45 YEARS AS WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH AND PRIOR TO THAT AT MARIAN UNIVERSITY, NOW WESLEYAN IN INDIANA FOR I THINK, 15 YEARS.

GREW UP, NEVER TOOK A FORMAL TENNIS LESSONS, TAUGHT HERSELF IN THE BACK OF THE BARN WALL ON HER FAMILY'S BARN AND. SHE CREATED A WONDERFUL PROGRAM AT BIOLA, NOT ONLY FOR WOMEN'S TENNIS, BUT INTERNATIONALLY FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS AND FOR WHEELCHAIR TENNIS AS WELL.

AND SHE HAS BEEN SHE WAS A VERY SELFLESS WOMAN, ALWAYS PUTTING PEOPLE AHEAD OF HERSELF.

AND SHE WAS ALSO LIVED IN NORWALK, ACTUALLY ON VOLUNTEER AVENUE, INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, VERY, VERY FITTING FOR HER.

SO, YOU KNOW, SHE WAS A VERY IMPACTFUL PERSON.

AND CERTAINLY THE LA MIRADA AREA INTERNATIONAL TENNIS HALL OF FAME AND EVERYTHING, AND PERSONALLY TO MY LIFE WAS TAUGHT ME HOW TO PLAY TENNIS AND, YOU KNOW, HELPED AND GAVE ME MY FIRST SUMMER JOB AS A TENNIS COACH TO THE YOUNG KIDS AT BIOLA.

SO SHE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED.

[01:10:03]

AND I WOULD ASK THAT WE CLOSE IN MEMORY OF HER FOR SURE.

AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR TODAY.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

TRUSTEE LOUIS TRUSTEE PACHECO.

FIRST, I WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON YOUR NEW POSITION HERE AS STUDENT TRUSTEE.

ALSO TO THANK YOU BECAUSE I GOT TO MEET YOU ON THE LEGISLATIVE DAY ADVOCACY DAY.

WE WERE ALL TOGETHER WITH OUR FORMER TRUSTEE, LEDESMA.

BOTH OF YOU DID A GREAT JOB IN REPRESENTING THE STUDENTS AT AT THE LEGISLATURE.

AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVOCACY AND COMING OUT.

WE DID GO TO ADVOCATE FOR CONTINUED FUNDING SO WE WOULDN'T GET ANY OF OUR FUNDING CUT BECAUSE OF THE BUDGET CUTS.

SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE ADVOCATED WITH THE LEGISLATURE TO PUT THEM IN THE FOREFRONT THAT EDUCATION WAS IMPORTANT.

THE OTHER THING WE WANTED TO SECURE WAS TRY TO GET GET THE LEGISLATURE TO GIVE US THE CONTINUE THE FUNDING THAT ORIGINALLY WAS PROMISED FOR STUDENT HOUSING.

SO THOSE WERE THE TWO THINGS THAT WE WERE OUT THERE TRYING TO ADVOCATE FOR.

AND THE STUDENT TRUSTEES DID AN EXCELLENT JOB OF HELPING US ADVOCATE FOR THOSE THINGS.

AND THAT'S. THANK YOU.

TRUSTEE PACHECO. TRUSTEE PEREZ.

YES. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

JUST A COUPLE OF ITEMS, ACTIVITIES SINCE OUR LAST BOARD MEETING.

IT SEEMS LIKE WE HAVEN'T MET IN A LONG TIME, BUT I DID ATTEND ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD THE NEW STEAM BUILDING AT MAYFAIR HIGH SCHOOL IN BELLFLOWER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.

SO THAT WAS REALLY EXCITING.

GREAT FACILITY.

IT'S GOING TO BE OPENING IN THE FALL.

A LOT OF REALLY HANDS ON OPPORTUNITIES FOR CTE CLASSES THERE, TOO.

SO REALLY EXCITED FOR OUR STUDENTS.

I ALSO WANTED JUST TO ACKNOWLEDGE EVERYBODY FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL BEHIND THE SCENES WORK FOR COMMENCEMENT.

I THOUGHT COMMENCEMENT JUST WENT REALLY, REALLY WELL AND IT WAS SO NICE TO SEE SO MANY OF OUR STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILIES CELEBRATING.

AND IT WAS A REALLY NICE CEREMONY.

SO AGAIN, I JUST WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND THANK EVERYBODY FOR ALL THE HARD WORK BEHIND THAT.

AS TRUSTEE PACHECO MENTIONED, TRUSTEE SCOTT AND I AND HER WE ALL WENT TO SACRAMENTO WITH.

DR. FIERRO HAD A REALLY GOOD I FELT SUCCESSFUL TRIP.

SO WE'RE ANXIOUSLY LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE GOVERNOR TO SIGN THE BUDGET AND WE WILL BE WAITING FOR GOOD NEWS FOR THAT.

AND A COUPLE OF WEEKENDS AGO, I ATTENDED THE CITY OF HAWAIIAN GARDENS ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER, WHERE THEY AWARD BOTH YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS AS WELL AS ADULT SCHOLARSHIPS. SO THAT WAS REALLY NICE.

WE HEARD FROM OUR ASSEMBLYWOMAN QUIRK-SILVA AND SHE AGAIN WAS REALLY PLEASED THAT THE PARTNERSHIP AND ALL THE GREAT STUFF THAT WE ARE DOING HERE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.

SO IT WAS NICE TO HEAR HER STORY AND HER VISION AND HER SUPPORT FOR HIGHER EDUCATION THERE AND OF COURSE, TO HONOR ALL THE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS, WHICH MANY OF THEM WERE COMING TO CERRITOS COLLEGE.

SO VERY EXCITED.

MY TWO OF MY THREE KIDS ARE TAKING DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES, OF COURSE, AT CERRITOS COLLEGE THIS SUMMER.

SO I WANTED TO ESPECIALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROFESSORS WHO ARE TEACHING AT SUMMER.

MY MIDDLE CHILD IS TAKING CHEF PERINI'S CLASS, WHICH HE LOVES, RIGHT? IT'S HEALTHY COOKING CULINARY ARTS.

AND IT'S AT IT'S AT BELLFLOWER HIGH SCHOOL, ANDREA'S ALMA MATER IN THE IN THE NEW KITCHEN, THE BEVERLY NEW KITCHEN THAT THEY HAVE.

SO IT'S A REALLY INTERESTING MODEL BECAUSE IT'S THE COW APPS CLASS, WHICH IS OUR CTE PROGRAM COMBINED WITH CERRITOS COLLEGE.

SO THE STUDENTS ARE GETTING THE COLLEGE CREDIT.

AND THE FIRST WEEK THEY DID BREAKFAST DISHES, THE SECOND WEEK THEY DID LUNCH AND THIS WEEK THEY'RE DOING DINNER DISHES.

SO YESTERDAY HE MADE RAVIOLI.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE MADE TODAY, BUT AGAIN, THEY MADE RATATOUILLE.

THEY HAD SOME REALLY NEAT THINGS.

AND I THINK THE ONE THING THAT WAS REALLY IMPRESSIVE IS JUST HOW CHEF RELATES TO ALL OUR STUDENTS, RIGHT? WE KNOW HE RELATES TO OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE ADULTS, BUT HE'S REALLY JUST CONNECTING WITH THE YOUNGER STUDENTS.

AND THEY'RE VERY MUCH THEY'RE REALLY MUCH INTERESTED IN HIS STORY AND HIS CAREER AND ALL THE DIFFERENT PLACES HE'S GONE AND HE'S WORKED AND STUFF.

SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY NEAT.

MY OTHER MY OTHER SON IS ACTUALLY TAKING TWO CLASSES.

HE'S ACTUALLY TAKING SPANISH CLASS AS WELL TOO.

SO I LOVE WALKING BY AND HEARING HIM TAPE HIS VIDEOS BECAUSE AGAIN, WHEN WE MOVED SPANISH, WE HAD THE LAB COMPONENT, WHICH AGAIN, IT'S A LOT OF VIDEO RECORDING AND AND WATCHING HIM WRITE HIS SPEECHES.

AND AGAIN, I'M JUST REALLY HAPPY WITH THE LEVEL OF WORK THAT HE'S HAVING TO DO FOR THIS FIVE UNITS OF SPANISH CLASS.

SO THAT'S REALLY EXCITING.

AND MY OTHER KID TOO, IS TAKING A HEALTHY STRESS MANAGEMENT CLASS, TOO, FROM ONE OF OUR COACHES, AND HE'S REALLY ENJOYING THAT TOO.

[01:15:07]

SO I WANTED JUST TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT AND JUST KNOW.

I MEAN, I KNOW WE'VE SEEN THE DATA, BUT REALLY THERE'S SO MANY MORE STUDENTS WHO ARE MUCH MORE AWARE OF THAT.

WHICH LEADS ME TO DR.

FIERRO AND I OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS HAVE HAD MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO TALK TO OUR NEW CHANCELLOR, CHANCELLOR SONYA CHRISTIAN, WHO AGAIN, COMES FROM KERN AREA AND NOW IS OUR NEW CHANCELLOR.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS I'M SURE YOU'VE ALL HEARD IS HER INITIATIVE IS TO HAVE EVERY SINGLE NINTH GRADER TAKE A DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASS.

RIGHT? THAT'S HER BIG THING. SO I WOULD ASK DR.

FIERRO IF MAYBE WE COULD COME BACK WITH A DISCUSSION ITEM ON THAT.

REALLY TAKING A LOOK AT THE DATA, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY OF OUR NINTH GRADE STUDENTS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY ARE DOING THAT ALREADY.

I THINK LOOKING FOR IDEAS FROM THE FACULTY AND FOR THE ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF OF WHAT OUR TYPES OF CLASSES BECAUSE AGAIN, I KNOW WE WANT THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL AS WELL. WE WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT TAKING A COLLEGE CLASS AT THAT LEVEL IS FOR EVERYONE.

AND I KNOW DIFFERENT COLLEGES AND EVEN DIFFERENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS JUST WITHIN OUR PARTNER SCHOOL DISTRICTS, WE HAVE DIFFERENT CLASSES FOR NINTH GRADERS.

SO AGAIN, WHAT ARE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES? BECAUSE I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO STEP UP TO THAT CHALLENGE AND REALLY TRY TO OFFER THAT, BECAUSE I DO THINK I SHARED WITH DR.

FIERRO MAYFAIR HIGH SCHOOLS.

SO THE SCHOOL, I THINK IT WAS THE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER DID A PROFILE OF THE TOP TEN.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT NUMBER SHE WAS.

SHE WAS LIKE NUMBER 7 OR 8.

I MEAN, SHE WAS PRETTY HIGH UP THERE AND SHE WAS SAYING LIKE, OH, I TOOK WHATEVER X AMOUNT OF AP CLASSES, BUT I.

ALSO TOOK ALL THESE CLASSES AT CERRITOS COLLEGE AND THEY WERE ACTUALLY EASIER THAN MY AP CLASSES, RIGHT? THEY WERE ACTUALLY EASIER THAN MY AP CLASSES.

I ENCOURAGE ALL STUDENTS TO TAKE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.

AND AGAIN, IT WAS IT WAS CUTE TO HEAR HER SAY THAT AND STUFF.

BUT I JUST THINK THAT IT'S STARTING TO GROW AND AT LEAST, YOU KNOW, I SEE IT AT MY MY CHILDREN'S SCHOOL IS THAT THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES.

SO I REALLY WOULD LIKE FOR US TO STEP UP TO HER CHALLENGE AND AND REALLY TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS THE RIGHT CLASS FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE IN NINTH GRADE. AND THAT'S ALL.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

TRUSTEE PEREZ TRUSTEE GREEN.

HI. YES, I WOULD LIKE TO FIRST CONGRATULATE YOU, JACKIE, ON YOUR NEW POSITION AS STUDENT TRUSTEE.

I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU.

DURING THE 2324 SCHOOL YEAR, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE BLACK STUDIES INFORMATIONAL SESSION ON SATURDAY, JUNE THIRD, AND IT WAS A WONDERFUL TIME WITH LOTS OF GREAT INFORMATION SHARED.

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO DR.

SARTON, DEAN MIXON FROM THE LIBERAL ARTS DEPARTMENT AND ALL OF THOSE WHO WORKED TO PUT ON THE EVENT, INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE, ALSO UMOJA.

AND WHILE I'M ON UMOJA, A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THEM AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE VILLAGE AND THE SUCCESS FOR THE BLACK ENGLISH ENROLLMENT.

WE WANT TO CONTINUE THAT MOVEMENT.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, IT WAS GREAT ATTENDING THE 2023 GRADUATION CEREMONY.

THAT WAS MY FIRST CERRITOS COLLEGE CEREMONY AND IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE ALL OF THE SCHOLARS RECEIVING THEIR CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES. IT WAS AMAZING.

SO, YOU KNOW, I LOOK FORWARD TO CERRITOS COLLEGE CONTINUED SUCCESS IN AWARDING, YOU KNOW, OUR STUDENTS.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE GREEN.

DR. FIERRO.

THANK YOU, DR. SALAZAR.

SAME. I'D LIKE TO THANK DR.

MILLER AND THE ENTIRE TEAM THAT HELPED WITH THE GRADUATION.

ALL THE BACKGROUND, ALL THE PUT DOWN PHOTOGRAPHY.

THANK YOU, MAYA.

WE HAD SOME EXCELLENT PICTURES, VIDEOS, SO IT WAS A FANTASTIC EVENT.

IT WAS REALLY NICE TO SPEND SOME TIME BEFORE COMMENCEMENT WITH SOME OF THE FAMILIES, FAMILIES OF THE GRADUATES.

AND AS I TRADITIONALLY DO, GO AND WALK AROUND AND SEE THE PATTERNS AND SO ON OF THE STUDENTS AFTER COMMENCEMENT, IT'S ALWAYS SO NICE TO SEE EVERYONE EXCITED AND THE FAMILY IS VERY SUPPORTIVE OF OUR STUDENTS.

SO THANK YOU TO EVERYONE.

I GOT SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE PRE COVID SALES AND OUR COMMISSION FROM THE FOOD VENDORS.

SO PRE COVID, WE WERE RECEIVING $200,000 A YEAR OR $200 WERE BEING ALLOCATED TO HCC.

SO OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RECEIVING THAT REVENUE, WHICH HAS HAD AN IMPACT ON THEIR OPERATIONAL BUDGET.

[01:20:02]

BUT REGARDLESS, WE'LL STILL BRING BACK THE INFORMATION ONE YEAR FROM NOW AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR NOW.

THANK YOU, DR. FIERRO.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE EVERYONE.

CAMPUS. IT TAKES A VILLAGE ON THE SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER LARGE GRADUATING CLASS.

I KNOW IT'S NOT ONE PERSON.

IT'S. IT'S EVERYBODY.

SO I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THAT AND RECOGNIZE DR.

FIERRO AND AND ALL THE LEADERSHIP AND THE STAFF AND THE FACULTY AND THAT THAT KIND OF MADE IT HAPPEN.

SO LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

AND ALSO CONGRATULATE AGAIN, TRUSTEE SCOTT TO THE BOARD AND LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU.

FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT TO US AND WE'LL REACH OUT TO YOU AND AND SO WE CAN WORK TOGETHER THIS COMING YEAR.
