SORRY ANDREA, I CAUGHT YOU AT -- SHOULD I TRY AGAIN?

>> IT IS 6:12 P.M.

I WOULD LIKE TO CALL THIS MEETING TO ORDER.

WELCOME TO THE CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD MEETING OF OCTOBER 19, 2022.

ANDREA CAN WE HAVE A ROLL CALL PLEASE.

>> BOARD PRESIDENT JAMES CODY BERKEY.

>> PRESENT.

>> VICE PRESIDENT LIU.

>> HERE.

>> SALAZAR.

>> PRESENT.

>> TRUSTEE MARISSA PEREZ WILL BE JOINING SHORTLY.

STUDENT TRUSTEE HECTOR LEDOUX TRAN.

>> DOCTOR THEY WOULD LIKE TO LEAD US IN THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

>> PLEASE HOLD YOUR HAND ON YOUR HEART, I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF

[1.02 Pledge of Allegiance]

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, 1 NATION UNDER GOD INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

>> THANK YOU.

[1.03 Comments from the Audience]

>> MOVING ON TO COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE, DO WE HAVE ANY COMMENTS FROM THE

[2.01 Honoring California Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia and California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon]

AUDIENCE? NOW I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE ON TO THE RECOGNITION OF THE ASSEMBLY MEMBERS.

>> THANK YOU BOARD PRESIDENT BIRKEY.

I WOULD LIKE TO FIRST RECOGNIZE ASSEMBLYWOMAN CHRISTINA GARCIA FOR THIS REPORT THAT SHE HAS PROVIDED TO CERRITOS COLLEGE OVER THE YEAR, PARTICULARLY THE LATEST CONTRIBUTION FROM THE STATE ALLOCATION OF $600,000 FOR THE STUDENT TRANSPORTATION NEEDS.

OVER THE YEARS ASSEMBLYWOMAN GARCIA HAS BEEN A GREAT FRIEND OF THE COLLEGE, SOMEONE WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COUNT ON WHEN WE NEED ADVICE, WHEN WE NEED SUPPORT IN STUDENT INITIATIVES.

OBVIOUSLY SHE'S WELL KNOWN IN THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH ASSEMBLYWOMAN GARCIA ABOUT THE TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVE THAT WE HAD ON CAMPUS, SHE WAS VERY CURIOUS, WE WERE ABLE TO EXPLAIN OUR PROJECT AND I THINK SOMETHING THAT WAS INCREDIBLY HELPFUL AND REALLY SEALED THE DEAL WAS A COMMITMENT OF THE STUDENTS TO REALLY SUPPORT EACH OTHER DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES.

SO TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT WE BEGAN TO PARTICIPATE ON THE TRANSPORTATION PILOT OF OUR L.A.

METRO.

INITIALLY WE OFFERED TO SUPPORT THE TICKETS, FREE TICKETS FOR ALL THE STUDENTS OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND FOR A PERIOD OF A YEAR.

THE STUDENTS DECIDED THAT IT WAS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR THOSE WHO WERE ABLE TO AFFORD AN INCREASE ON THE STUDENT FEES TO SUPPORT THOSE WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE THOSE TICKETS.

SO THE STUDENTS TOOK IT UPON THEMSELVES TO PASS A RESOLUTION VOTE TO INCREASE THE DONOR STUDENT FEES SO THEIR PEERS WERE ABLE TO COME TO SCHOOL FREE OF CHARGE.

WHEN WE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ASSEMBLYWOMAN SHE WAS VERY CURIOUS, VERY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO HELP THE STUDENTS AND AS I SAID I THINK THIS IS WHAT GODDESS INTO THE SIMPLY WOMAN.

>> A NUMBER OF CONVERSATIONS, TRIPS TO SACRAMENTO, PHONE CALLS, FINALLY WE WERE ABLE TO SECURE $600,000 FOR THE STUDENTS TRANSPORTATION AND OBVIOUSLY WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK AT THE STATE LEVEL UNTIL TRANSPORTATION BECOMES FREE FOR ALL THE STUDENTS IN THE STUDENTS ACROSS THE STATE.

[00:05:03]

THANK YOU ASSEMBLYWOMAN GARCIA, I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT YOU WITH A PROCLAMATION ON BEHALF OF THE CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

I THINK WE'LL TAKE A PICTURE BUT WILL DO IT PROBABLY THERE SO ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS CAN BE IN THE PICTURE.

>> I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY A FEW WORDS.

>> IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE [INAUDIBLE] >> EVENT A GREAT ADVOCACY TEAM, BEEN WITH THE ASSEMBLY MEMBER SINCE 2015 AND SINCE THEN WE'VE HAD NUMEROUS CONVERSATIONS WHETHER BE WITH LABOR, HEARING FROM YOUR STUDENTS WERE YOU CREATING A HOME FOR US HOSTING OUR EVENTS.

WE HAD A CONFERENCE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN AND GIRLS AND IT WAS 1 OF THE BIG SUCCESSFUL EVENTS THAT WE HAD IN OUR TENURE IN THE ASSEMBLY.

CERRITOS COLLEGE IS A GREAT PLACE, LOTS MORE TO COME, THERE'S GREAT LEADERSHIP THAT IS COMING THAT WILL BE REPRESENTING CERRITOS COLLEGE SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF THE ASSEMBLY MEMBER, THANK YOU.

>> ALRIGHT.

OUR NEXT GUEST OF HONOR IS A SPEAKER DOCTOR ANTHONY RAN DOWN.

THE SPEAKER WAS I BELIEVE BESIDE THE BOARD THE FIRST ELECTED OFFICIAL THAT I MET WHEN I GOT TO CERRITOS COLLEGE I REMEMBER HE WAS VERY, VERY QUICK AND FITTING ME INTO HIS SCHEDULE AND I MET HIM AT HIS OFFICE IN SOUTHGATE SHORTLY AFTER MY ARRIVAL.

WE HAD A CONVERSATION HE WAS ASKING YOU NUMBER OF QUESTIONS AND I WAS UNSURE AS TO WHAT TO SAY AYE WAS JUST MEETING HIM AND I WAS JUST BRAND-NEW TO THE AREA.

BUT FROM THAT DAY ON HE OFFERED HIS SUPPORT AND INITIALLY I THOUGHT WHEN YOU NEED SOMEONE CALL ME.

BUT I DID TAKE HIM ON HIS OFFER AND HE HAS LIVED EVERY SINGLE TIME.

OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE MULTIPLE CONVERSATIONS, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO OBVIOUSLY CALL ON HIM AND VISIT HIM AND HIS BEEN ON CAMPUS A NUMBER OF TIMES, 1 OF THE STUDIES ARE IS A COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER THAT WAS SHORTLY AFTER HE BECAME THE SPEAKER.

ALWAYS WE MADE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE, NOT ONLY AS A FORMER CERRITOS COLLEGE STUDENT OR GREAT REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR COMMUNITY.

WHEN WE WERE PULLING TOGETHER OUR ADVOCACY AGENDA THE FIRST CALL THAT I MADE WHEN WE WERE PLANNING ON GETTING THE STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING WAS TO SPEAKER BECAUSE HIS CONNECTION TO THE CAMPUS A AND A FORMER ALUM AND A GRADUATE BUT TOO, I REMEMBER HIM TELLING ME THE STORY OF HIS WALLET, PART HE FORGOT IT WAS THERE IN THE WALLET HE HAD A COUPON IN THAT COUPON I THINK WAS FOR A BURGER OR SOMETHING SO NOT ONLY HE LOST HIS WALLET BUT HE LOST THE MEAL FROM THAT DAY.

THE OTHER PART THAT HE DID NOT MENTION WAS COMING DOWN THE LIBERAL ARTS BUILDING WHEN WE HAD THE EARTHQUAKE, HE WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ON OUR CAMPUS AND GOING DOWN THE STAIRS AND HE HAS EXPERIENCED CERRITOS UP AND DOWN, LEFT AND RIGHT AND IS ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT FRIEND OF MINE AND OF THE COLLEGE.

SO WE WANTED THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF CERRITOS COLLEGE ON BEHALF OF THE TRUSTEES IN

[00:10:04]

OUR CAMPUS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE 60 MILLION REASONS TO BE THANKFUL TO YOU.

>> THANK YOU, GREAT TO BE HERE AND GREAT TO BE BACK WE TALKED ABOUT SOME OF MY ILLUSTRIOUS MOMENTARY, HAVING MY WALLET STOLEN, IT WAS A CARL'S JR. COUPON, YOU ARE RIGHT.

FALLING DOWN THE STAIRS IN THE WHO DO YOU OR EARTHQUAKE IN 89 OR SO, DESPITE THAT, SOME GREAT MEMORIES.

I TALKED SO MUCH ABOUT MY LEVEL PHILOSOPHY AND HAVING STUDIED PHILOSOPHY, EXISTING BUILDING DOCTOR WENZEL THE CLASS INTRODUCTION PHILOSOPHY.

BECAUSE I LOST MY WALLET I COULD NOT AFFORD TEXTBOOKS AND I WENT TO THE LIBRARY AND CHECKED OUT ALL OF MY TEXTBOOKS.

I CHECKED OUT THE DEATH OF SOCRATES, PLATO'S REPUBLIC, A BOOK CALLED CAUSAL ACRE, ALL OF THOSE BOOKS WERE AT THE CERRITOS COLLEGE LIBRARY, MY LOVE OF LITERATURE, IF I WEREN'T HERE I WOULD BE HOME READING.

MY LOVE OF READING STARTED HERE.

MY LEVEL PHILOSOPHY WHICH TURNED INTO A PHD AFTER WAY TOO MUCH SCHOOLING STARTED HERE.

SO MUCH, I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT STARTED HERE SO IT'S INCREDIBLY A SPECIAL PLACE FOR ME TO BE.

THANK YOU TO THE BOARD IN ALL OF THE WORK THAT YOU DO I KNOW AS AN ELECTION, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME A BIT IN THE LEGISLATIVE CHAMBERS SINCE MIDNIGHT ON AUGUST 31 WILL BE GOBBLED DOWN I GOT REALLY NERVOUS I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING AFTER ROUND UP SOME BOATS.

I KNOW ALL THE WORK YOU DO THE HARD WORK THAT YOU DO IS OFTEN THANKLESS IN THESE TYPE OF EFFORTS ARE THE EFFORTS, WHAT I WAS RUNNING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION ORGANIZATION AND GAIN PROGRAMS I USED TO TELL MY STAFF I WOULD SAY THE WORK I DO AS AN ADMINISTRATOR IS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH THE RESOURCES THAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL, THAT'S WHAT KRISTINE AND I DOING SACRAMENTO FOR THE COLLEGE.

THAT'S WHAT WE DO EVERY DAY AND WHAT WE STRIVE TO DO AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO AND WHAT I WILL DO WITH MY NEW NEIGHBOR MY NEW LEGISLATIVE NEIGHBOR BLANCO WHEN SHE GETS SWORN IN ON DECEMBER 5.

WERE INCREDIBLY EXCITED.

AGAIN I WANT TO THANK DOCTOR FIERRO FOR HIS FRIENDSHIP.

I REMEMBER THAT MEETING AS WELL.

WHEN YOU WALKED OUT AND I THINK I TOLD YOU THE STORY YOU WALKED OUT OF MY OFFICE 1 OF MY STAFF MEMBER SAYS HE LOOKS LIKE YOU DOCTOR FIERRO AND I REMEMBER WALKING AWAY AND HEARING THE OTHER 1 SAY NO FIERRO IS WAY BETTER LOOKING.

TRUE STORY, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP.

I ALSO WANT TO THANK AND EVERYONE IS AGREEMENT.

I WANT TO THANK DEBORAH FOR THE CERRITOS COLLEGE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER WORKED IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION FOR 30 YEARS.

I USED TO TELL PEOPLE I WAS A FORTUNETELLER I LEARNED HOW TO TELL THE FUTURE RAN GAIN PROGRAMS AND I RAN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION I KNEW IF THEY WENT I COULD SEE THE FUTURE AND I KNEW THEY WOULD NOT END UP IN THE GANG PROGRAMS. THE WORK THAT YOU DO EVERY DAY IS A WORK OF CERRITOS COLLEGE, IS A WORK OF CALIFORNIA, IT'S A WORK OF THIS COMMUNITY.

THANK YOU TO YOU AND THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH SPEAKER.

>> OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN SEE OUR DASHING LOOKS, THERE ARE SOME BENEFITS OF LOOKING

[00:15:06]

LIKE THE SPEAKER, I'LL TELL YOU A COUPLE.

THE FIRST 1 SHORTLY AFTER I ARRIVED HERE I WENT TO AN EVENT AND I CHILLED OUT BY MYSELF, CONFUSED I STILL CONFUSED EVERY SO FREQUENTLY.

THEN I REMEMBERED ENTERING 1 OF THE STAFFERS WHEN DON CANADY WAS THE SUPERVISOR AND SHE'S TALL SOLOMON STARTED RUNNING ACROSS AFFORD THE EVENT AND SHE SAID HOW YOU DOING AND I SAID GREAT, THANK YOU.

AND SHE SAYS ARE YOU BY YOURSELF, DID YOU BRING IN YOUR STAFFERS, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A STAFFER WAS SO I SAID NO AND BY MYSELF, NOW LET ME HELP YOU AND BRING THE SUPERVISOR.

I WAS LIKE WOW, SHE WENT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM, GOT THE SUPERVISOR OUT OF THE CHAIR AND BROUGHT THEM TO ME TO SAY HELLO THINKING THAT I WAS YOU.

AND I HAVE A BETTER ONE I WENT TO SACRAMENTO AND THEY WAVED ME IN, COME IN MR. SPEAKER SO THERE ARE SOME ADVANTAGES TO BE AS GOOD-LOOKING AS THE SPEAKER.

>> GOOD NOTE TO SELF IF I CAN GET SPEAKER THEN I'LL JUST ASK YOU.

>> THANK YOU AGAIN TO BOTH OF YOU.

THIS IS REALLY SPECIAL FOR US AS A COLLEGE BECAUSE WE WORK REALLY HARD TO STRETCH RESOURCES TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE FOR OUR COMMUNITY THAT DOESN'T ALWAYS GET A LOT OF RESOURCES.

SO FOR US THIS IS NOT JUST A GIFT IT IS CHANGE MAKING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I THINK WERE RIGHT ON TIME TO MOVE INTO THE INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATION.

>> WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU FOR A BRIEF RECESS TO ENJOY A FEW MORE PHOTOS AND MAYBE SOME REFRESHMENTS FROM OUR CULINARY ARTS TEAM THAT IS ABOUT TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR BEING ONE OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY.

ENJOY.

>> CERRITOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TONIGHT.

OUR OPEN SESSION AGENDA STARTED INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATION WITH THE RECOGNITION OF OUR CULINARY ARTS TEAM.

[3.01 Institutional Presentation: Recognition of Culinary Arts Team]

AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD MENTIONED IN OTHER MOMENTS OF TONIGHT'S MEETING, CERRITOS COLLEGE EARNED YET ANOTHER TOP HONOR, THIS TIME NATIONALLY WITH THE CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM BEING RANKED SIXTH IN THE UNITED STATES.

>> AND NUMBER ONE IN CALIFORNIA MIND YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GO A LONG WAYS TO FIND ANYTHING BETTER.

THE UNIVERSITY.COM USES THE LATEST GOVERNMENT DATA SPECIFICALLY THE INTEGRATIVE POST SECONDARY EDUCATION DATA SYSTEM AND COLLEGE SCORECARD SCHOOL AND DEGREE PROGRAM RANKING AIM TO INFORM AND EMPOWER AND PERSPECTIVE STUDENTS OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND I LIKE TO POINT OUT THIS AWARD NOT ONLY HAS TO DO WITH HOW GREAT THE FOOD IS BUT ALSO HOW GREAT THE PROGRAM IS IN ORDER TO ACTUALLY INSTRUCT STUDENTS IN THEIR CULINARY CAREERS.

I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT TONIGHT ALONG WITH DOCTOR FIERRO AND THE REST OF THE BOARD CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION FOR THREE FOLKS MICHAEL.

HE, FULL-TIME, AMBER DOUGLAS BANQUET CHEF.

HIS ERNEST LU PRESENT?

>> YES.

>> THERE HE IS.

>> I MENTIONED THE NOT PRESENT FOLKS TO.

>> NOT PRESENT BUT STILL BEEN RECOGNIZED TONIGHT IS AMANDA EITAN, LAWRENCE MERCADO, IDLING PAGE, JESSICA ADJUNCT MELODY LAB TECHNICIAN TO ROSALINA CUSTODIAN, THANK YOU.

DOCTOR FIERRO THE.

>> THANK YOU PRESIDENT BIRKEY IT IS MY HONOR TO PRESENT THE CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION TO CHEF DOUGLAS AND SCHEFFLER FOR THE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AS

[00:20:01]

BEING RANKED ONE OF THE BEST PROGRAMS IN THE NATION, SIX FOR THAT MATTER.

IT IS JUST A MATTER OF SIMPLY STOPPING BY ONE DAY, ONE TIME, ONE ITEM OF THE MENU AND YOU WILL DEFINITELY FIND OUT WHY THEY ARE RANKED NUMBER SIX.

TODAY WAS A CLEAR EXAMPLE OF THAT WITH FRANCE, I KNOW SEVERAL OF YOU WERE THERE, WE ONLY ATE A LITTLE BIT OF IT BUT IT WAS REALLY GREAT, THEY PREPARED ONE OF MY FAVORITE RATATOUILLE AND THEY ALWAYS DO IT WITHOUT FAIL, JUST EXCELLENT.

ALSO INCREDIBLY HELPFUL EVERY TIME THERE WE HAVE AN EVENT ON CAMPUS AS YOU KNOW THE SEMESTER WE HAVE POSTED A NUMBER OF EVENTS TO RETURN TO CAMPUS IN THEIR SERVICE AND THEIR FOOD AND THEIR SUPPORT IS ALWAYS INCREDIBLE, PLEASE HELP ME THINKING AND RECOGNIZING OUR CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM FOR THIS INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT.

WELCOME TO THE PODIUM AND WELCOME TO SAY A COUPLE OF THINGS AND I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOUR TRUSTEES IF THEY DON'T MIND TO GET IN THE PICTURE.

>> JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE INCLUDE EVERYBODY ALSO LEFT OFF THE LIST THAT I MENTIONED WAS JESUS LISA LOPEZ.

>> THINK EVERYBODY I APPRECIATE THE HONORS IN THE WORDS OF THE LONG ROAD TO BUILD UP OUR PROGRAM 29 YEARS AGO AND WITH THE COMMITMENT OF THE COLLEGE, THE BOARD THEN AND NOW WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS.

WHEN I WAS HIRED HERE I SAT IN THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE WITH DOCTOR GASKIN AND HE ASKED ME WHAT YOU BRING TO CERRITOS COLLEGE AND I SAID I WANT THE NUMBER ONE CULINARY SCHOOL IN LOS ANGELES.

SO WE ARE DONE.

>> THAT WAS A GOOD MIC DROP, I LIKE THAT.

>> LET'S TAKE A PICTURE.

>> OKAY.

>> ALRIGHT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> ALRIGHT WILL WAIT ONE MOMENT.

IT'S ALRIGHT, SOMEBODY'S GOT TO DO IT.

ALRIGHT.

SO THE TIME IS 7:03 P.M.

[00:25:01]

AND WE WILL BEGIN A VERY IMPORTANT AWARD ITEM WHICH IS TO FILL THE BOARD VACANCY

[4.01 Interview, Discuss and Deliberate Applicants for Filling Board Vacancy for Trustee Area 2]

FOR TRUSTEE AREA TWO.

ONCE A CANDIDATE HAS BEEN NOMINATED AND APPOINTED TO FILL THE BANQUETTE BOARD SEAT LEFT BY TRUSTEE, THE APPOINTMENT CONFERS ALL POWERS AND DUTIES UPON THE APPOINTEE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING HIS OR HER APPOINTMENT PER EDUCATION CODE SECTION 5091.

FOR OUR NEXT STEP IN THIS PROCESS WHICH MAY TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME HERE TONIGHT I'M GOING TO ASK DOCTOR FIERRO TO WALK US TO THE PROCESS.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE, AND GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

AS TRUSTEE BIRKEY MENTIONED.

ONCE ELIMINATION TAKES PLACE, THE APPOINTMENT TAKES EFFECT IMMEDIATELY.

THE ACTUAL SWEARING CEREMONY WILL TAKE PLACE DURING OUR NOVEMBER 16 MEETING, CORRECT? SO WE HAVE FIVE CANDIDATES I'M GOING TO READ THE CANDIDATES BASED ON A RANDOMIZED ORDER FOR INTERVIEW.

CANDIDATE NUMBER ONE, CANDIDATE NUMBER TWO, CANDIDATE NUMBER THREE CANDIDATE NUMBER FIVE.GREEN, EACH CANDIDATE HAS 15 MINUTES FOR THE INTERVIEW AND ANDREA WILL NOTIFY EACH CANDIDATE WIN FIVE MINUTES REMAINING EACH TRUSTEE WILL AS ONE QUENCHED UNDER QUESTION TO THE CANDIDATE AND EACH TRUSTEE WILL RANK THE RESPONSES ON A SCALE OF 1 - 3.

WHEN INTERVIEWS ARE COMPLETE WE WILL TAKE A BRIEF RECESS NO MORE THAN 15 MINUTES AND WE WILL COMPILE THE ANONYMOUS RESULTS WHICH MEANS THE TRUSTEES WILL NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF THE INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS.

THE BOARD WILL THEN RECONVENE TO OPEN SESSION, THE CANDIDATE THEN CAN BE NOMINATED FOLLOWED BY A DISCUSSION AND DEVOTES.

UPON SELECTION THE NEW TRUSTEE OF AREA TO WILL BE SWORN IN AT THE NOVEMBER 16 REGULAR BOARD MEETING BUT IT IS WELCOME TO STAY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE BOARD MEETING IF HE OR SHE CHOOSES TO STAY.

A REMINDER FOR THE BOARD YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO NOMINATE A CANDIDATE FOR CONSIDERATION.

THE FULL NOMINATION WILL REQUIRE A SECOND IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE VOTE AND YOU WILL NEED FOR BOTH MINIMUM TO SELECT THE CANDIDATE.

SINCE WE HAVE SIX MEMBERS THAT MEANS A MINIMUM OF TWO COULD BE IN THE NEGATIVE AND A MAX OF TWO COULD BE IN THE NEGATIVE.

AND WE ARE ALREADY WILL PROCEED TO BRING IN THE FIRST CANDIDATE, JUST TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE HAS CLARITY IN THE PROCESS, THEY ARE WAITING IN MY OFFICE AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE FEET OF THIS MEETING SO THEY WILL NOT BE SEEING THE QUESTIONS AHEAD OF TIME.

SO EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THE SAME PLAYING FIELD IN THE SAME TIME TO PREPARE AND THE QUESTIONS ARE GOING TO BE THE SAME FOR EACH CANDIDATE.

SO IF YOU'RE READY I'LL BRING THE FIRST CANDIDATE MR. BIRKEY.

>> YES PLEASE.

>> A SMALL NOTE TRUSTEE.

AS IS NOT PRESENT BUT REQUESTED THAT I READ YOUR QUESTION ON HER BEHALF SO WE'LL STILL INCLUDE THAT.

THAT'S WHY YOU SEE ME TOO.

THANK YOU.

>> CARMEN CAN YOU CHECK IF THE BLUE LIGHT ON THE MICROPHONE IS ON.

>> IS.

>> PERFECT.

[00:30:11]

>> TO ALL THE TRUSTEES HAVE THE TRUSTEE FORM? WELCOME CARMEN.

>> PQ, PLEASURE.

>> I'M GOING TO ASK YOU A FIRST QUESTION FOLLOWED BY SOME COLLEAGUES AND WE'RE GOING TO WALK TO THAT AND AT THE END OF THAT WE WILL ASK IF YOU HAVE THE QUESTIONS FOR US.

>> THANK YOU.

>> CERRITOS COLLEGE CELEBRATES THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES AND THE COMMUNITY CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR COMMITMENT AND SERVICE TO UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS AND HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTERESTS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> I BEEN SERVING CERRITOS COLLEGE ALREADY AND AM VERY PLEASED TO BE HERE AND WE ARE BRINGING A NATIONAL PROJECT FROM ONE OF THE UNIVERSITIES WHICH IS VERY WELL RECOGNIZED IN LATIN AMERICA.

THE DIFFERENCE THAT THEY HAVE, I KNOW THAT WE HAVE THE BEST HERE BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE THEY HAVE A BUSINESS PLAN FOR ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO WORK GRADUATING TO HAVE THEIR BUSINESS AS WELL.

I WOULD LIKE TO WORK ON THIS WITH YOU GUYS AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE A PART, I'M STILL WORKING ON THE COLLEGE WHENEVER I CAN I DO MARKETING AND OWN A NEWSPAPER THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON.

IN ALWAYS LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THAT RUN THE COMMUNITY.

>> TRUSTEE SALAZAR.

>> IN YOUR OPINION WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR COVID AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP IN THE SITUATION.

>> I THINK PART OF IT EVEN FOR OURSELVES WE WENT TO VERY HARD TIMES AND TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE GOT OUT OF IT AND RECONDITION HERSELF AND HER THINKING THE WAY WE USE TO DO THINGS IS DIFFERENT WE CAN STILL GO ON AND GO EVEN FARTHER, WEIRD HE WENT TO THE WORST AND WERE STILL HERE FOR THE CALLED AND THE COMMUNITY IN MANY WAYS IN ORDER FOR US TO ENCOMPASS BETTER THINGS IN THE COMMUNITY, THE SCHOOL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALL ASK A QUESTION THIS BOARD HAS BENEFITED FROM A DIVERSITY OF TECHNICAL EXPERIENCES IN LAW, MEDICINE, FINANCE, EDUCATION, POLICY AND SOMEONE.

WHAT TECHNICAL EXPERTISE YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN BRING.

>> I CAN BRING [INAUDIBLE] TO ASTRONOMY AND ALSO BRING IN PEOPLE THAT CAN SPEAK TO THE STUDENTS THE WAY THEY CAN INTERCHANGE THE STUDENTS TAKING THEM OUT THERE AND PREPARING THEM FOR THEIR OWN BUSINESS AT THE END OF THE DAY, I KNOW THAT HIGH THAT YOU CAN GET BUT YOU CAN ALSO WORK ON THE BUSINESS SIDE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALASKA THE NEXT QUESTION, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE.

>> I'M A VERY HUMBLE PERSON, I'VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY I ALWAYS SEE THAT THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE HAVE.

THE REASON THAT I OWN THE NEWSPAPER IS BECAUSE OF LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE LATINO AND THE AMERICANS -- I TRIED TO MAKE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND, EITHER DECIDE OR HELP THEM TO MAKE A DECISION IF THEY HELP THEM THEN THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND AND I DO LOBBY FOR OTHER NONPROFITS AND THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS FOR THE VETERANS AND I WILL STILL BE DOING IT BECAUSE THAT IS PART OF ME.

[00:35:08]

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> IF APPOINTED WILL YOU SEEK A FULL TERM TO THIS POSITION IN 2024.

>> YES, SIR ALL.

>> TRUSTEE.

>> WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE AT CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR.

>> I'VE REALLY BEEN ON THE COMMITTEE AND I PUT IN MY EFFORTS AND I REALLY LOVE THE COLLEGE AND I WANT TO COLLEGE TO SEE EVERY PART IN EVERY FEEL OF FISCAL AND PART OF THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOR A WHILE ALREADY MY KIDS CAME TO SCHOOL HERE AND I BELIEVE THE POWER OF THE COLLEGE HAS ACKNOWLEDGED AND I'M GETTING CONTINUE HELPING THE SCHOOL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE IN WHAT WAYS WE COLLABORATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO MAKE SURE YOUR DECISION-MAKING IS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

>> I WILL TRY TO REACH WITH EVERYONE, I'M SELF-EMPLOYED AND I WOULD TRY TO REACH WITH THE PEOPLE AND MAYBE DO SOME WORKSHOPS FOR YOU GUYS AND BE ABLE TO STAY TOGETHER IN COMMUNICATION SEE YOU GUYS WILL FEEL OR SUPPORT BECAUSE SOMETIMES PEOPLE AREN'T SHY TO COME ASK FOR A NEED THAT THEY HAVE AND IT WAS PARTICIPATING IT CLOSER TO THE STUDENTS AT MORE COMMUNICATION AND BETTER UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE TRUSTEE BOARDS IN THE STUDENTS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> MS. MARIANNE DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US?

>> NO I THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE HERE AND ALWAYS WISH THE BEST TO SERVE THIS COLLEGE.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU CARMEN.

OUR NEXT CANDIDATE.

>> ALRIGHT, GOOD EVENING.

WE'RE GOING TO PROCEED TO ASK YOU SEVEN QUESTIONS ON BEHALF OF EACH OF US, AND THEN AT THE END ALASKA IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US.

>> AT THAT POINT TO A GET TO MAKE ANY PRESENTATION?

>> FOR ANY REMAINING TIME THAT YOU WOULD LIKE.

>> GREAT, THANK YOU.

>> IS THAT CORRECT ANDREA? I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE.

>> WE'RE ALL IN ALIGNMENT.

>> ON BEHALF OF TRUSTEE PEREZ, CERRITOS COLLEGE CELEBRATES THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STUDENTS, OUR EMPLOYEES AND THE COMMUNITY.

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR COMMITMENT AND SERVICE TO UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS AND HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTERESTS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> I'M SORRY WHAT IS THE LAST.

>> HOW YOU WOULD GO OUT ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTEREST THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY.

>> I REPRESENTED THE UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITY FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS.

WHEN I WAS ON THE DOWNEY SCHOOL BOARD FOR BEING A WHITE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO BE IN A HISPANIC SCHOOL DISTRICT.

OUR COMMITMENT WAS THEN, IS NOW WOULD BE HERE AT THIS COLLEGE TO REPRESENT ALL STUDENTS, TO BRING THEM FORTH, FORWARD, MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF THE STUDENTS ARE PROPERLY REPRESENTED AND THAT THEY GET EVERY OPPORTUNITY THAT THEY SHOULD.

THE EXAMPLE OF THE BUS PASSES THAT ARE BEING PROVIDED TO UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS.

THE VARIOUS OTHER PROJECTS THAT ARE GOING ON A CERRITOS PROJECT IS HELP UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS.

FOR EXAMPLE YOU MENTIONED ON THE FATE OF THE COLLEGE.

THE WORK AT THE FALCONS NEST TO HELP STUDENTS WHO ARE HAVING FOOD INSECURITY.

GREAT PROGRAMS ARE GOING ON HERE, THE HOUSING INITIATIVE IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC AND HELPING UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS IN BRINGING DIVERSITY TO THE CAMPUS.

[00:40:05]

AS FAR AS I KNOW UNLESS SOMETHING IS BEEN SOMEWHERE ELSE THIS IS ONLY COMMUNITY COLLEGE THAT IS DONE THAT AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT THE COMMUNITY SHOULD BE PROUD OF.

I WILL WORK TO HELP REPRESENT EVERY STUDENT GOING TO CERRITOS COLLEGE TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO GO TO CERRITOS COLLEGE.

WHATEVER THEIR ETHNIC BACKGROUND IS.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR SALAZAR.

>> IN YOUR OPINION WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE POST COVID AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP HER STUDENTS OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE.

>> I THINK FOR A LOT OF STUDENTS A BIGGEST CHALLENGE THAT THEY HAVE POST COVID IS THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THE SKILLS TO WORK IN PERSON.

MOST OF THE STUDENTS COMING IN FROM YOUR HIGH SCHOOLS RIGHT NOW SPENT TWO YEARS SITTING IN FRONT OF COMPUTER SCREENS.

THEY ARE JUST GETTING USED TO BEING BACK IN PERSON.

THE STUDENTS THAT ARE CONTINUING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE HAVE SPENT TWO YEARS WORKING IN FRONT OF COMPUTER SCREENS.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO INTEGRATE THE PROGRAMS. CERRITOS IS DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB OF HAVING ONLINE CLASSES, IN PERSON CLASSES, HYBRID CLASSES AND THOSE NEED TO CONTINUE AND BE RAMPED UP SO STUDENTS HAVE EVERY OPPORTUNITY, RIGHT NOW CERRITOS COLLEGE HAS 18 WEEK SEMESTER, 15 WEEK PROGRAM IN A NINE WEEK PROGRAM.

MAYBE IT'S TIME TO LOOK AT OTHER PROGRAMS. SIX WEEKS, THREE SIX-WEEK TERMS. A LOT OF THE PRIVATE FOR-PROFIT COLLEGES, THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX DO ONE MONTH CLASSES, SOME STUDENTS DO BETTER WHEN THEY ARE SIMPLY FOCUSED ON ONE CLASS AT A TIME SO THERE ARE VARIOUS OPTIONS TO HELP THE STUDENTS POST COVID FOR US AT CERRITOS COLLEGE TO BE CREATIVE AND LOOK AT THE THINGS THAT CAN BE DONE TO IMPROVE WHAT'S ALREADY A GOOD PROGRAM.

BUT THERE'S ALWAYS WAYS, WE FOUND OUT WITH COVID THE ONLINE EDUCATION CAN ACTUALLY WORK BUT IT DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYBODY THEY WERE KIDS WHO STRIVE TO DO THE PROGRAM ONLINE, SIT AT HOME, DO THE WORK, MOVE ON, DO SOMETHING ELSE AND HAVING THE SOCIALIZATION AND THE ABILITY TO ASK PROFESSORS QUESTIONS IN CLASS OR GO TO THEM AFTER CLASS AND SAY I DID NOT UNDERSTAND THAT.

I THINK THAT IS THE IMPORTANT THING WE CAN FOCUS ON POST COVID NEW PROGRAMS THAT WILL HELP BRING KIDS BACK INTO THE PROGRAM AND TO RE-ENERGIZE, COMMUNITY COLLEGE ALONG WITH OTHER SCHOOLS LOSING KIDS, THEY ARE GOING TO WORK AND WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT THEY CAN BE PART-TIME, FULL-TIME, THEY CAN, NIGHT, THEY CAN COME IN THE MORNING, GIVE THEM ALL OF THE OPTIONS AND MAKE SURE THOSE OPTIONS OUT THERE FOR THEM.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THIS BOARD HAS BENEFITED FROM TECHNICAL EXPERTISE IN LAW, MEDICINE, FINANCE, EDUCATION POLICY AND SOMEONE.

WHAT TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AREAS DO YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD BRING.

>> LAW AND MEDICINE ARE OUT.

DOCTOR SALAZAR YOU GOT THE MEDICINE.

MR. LEWIS YOU CAN DO THE LAW FOR US.

YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF ME IN NURSING.

I THINK MY TALENTS WOULD BE BRINGING COLLABORATION, FORWARD TO THE BOARD I KNOW HOW TO WORK IN A GROUP.

I'VE WORKED IN A GROUP AND THE CITY COUNCIL AND ACTUALLY I HOPE THE DOWNEY CITY COUNCIL IS OPERATING MORE COLLABORATIVELY THAT IT WAS SIX MONTHS AGO AND FOR 41 YEARS I KNEW HOW TO COUNTER FOR.

YOU NEED TO IN A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS KNOW HOW TO COUNT.

TODAY'S ENEMY IS TOMORROW'S FRIEND.

I THINK THE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE THAT I HAVE I WAS AN EDUCATOR FOR OVER 25 YEARS, YES IT WAS MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOU HAD TO DEAL CRAZY PEOPLE.

I KNOW I HAVE A LOT OF CONNECTION IN POLICY AREAS, THE LOCAL LEGISLATURE, THE SPEAKER, SENATOR, OUR NEW CONGRESSMAN MOST LIKELY ROBIN GARCIA.

I KNOW ALL THESE PEOPLE CAN HELP THEM IN ROWS AND BRING THEM FORWARD AND I KNOW A

[00:45:07]

LITTLE ABOUT AGENDA BUT COMMUNITY FINANCE I KNOW YOU GET 12% OF PROP 98 AND I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF INTRICACIES TO FINANCE OF THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEVEL BUT I HELPING SOME OF THE EXPERTISE TO YOU.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR LOU.

>> HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?

>> COLLABORATIVE, I WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH PEOPLE AND BREAK THE PROGRAMS FORWARD.

UNLESS IT'S A MORAL OR ETHICAL ISSUE, I WANT TO TRY TO FIND WORK AND WE ALL COME TOGETHER ON.

THERE'S GOING TO BE TIMES IN A SEVEN-MEMBER BOARD THAT IT'LL BE 6 - 1, 5 - 2, 14 FACTORY.

THAT'S WHY THEY ELECT MORE THAN ONE PERSON.

BUT I THINK A COLLABORATIVE OUTLOOK IS IMPORTANT THING IN A LEADERSHIP STYLE IN A BOARD SUCH AS THIS.

IF I WAS RUNNING MY OWN COMPANY AND HAVE A DIFFERENT LEADERSHIP STYLE PROBABLY.

BUT THIS IS A DIFFERENT ORGANIZATION, SEVEN PEOPLE PLUS DOCTOR FIERRO AS PART OF THE TEAM THAT NEED TO ALL WORK TOGETHER I THINK THAT'S ALL I NEED TO BRING A LEADERSHIP STYLE COLLABORATIVE WORKING.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> IF APPOINTED WOULD YOU SEEK A FULL TERM TO THIS POSITION IN 2024?

>> I DON'T KNOW.

LET ME ELABORATE WHEN I WAS ASKED THAT QUESTION TO SEE WHEN I WAS APPLYING TO BE THE FILLING GUY AT THE CITY COUNCIL AND DOWNEY I WAS VERY CLEAR I'M HERE TO HELP YOU FILLING, BRIDGE THE GAP THEY WERE ALREADY GOOD CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR THE FULL-TERM SEAT UNLESS NOBODY RUNS, I DON'T PLAN TO RUN.

I DID NOT PLAN THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE A CERRITOS COLLEGE VACANCY.

I WASN'T EXPECTING TO APPLY AND SAY AYE GIVE YOU MY EXPERTISE.

THAT'S WHAT I OFFERED TO THE CITY OF DOWNEY FOR THE SIX MONTHS AND THAT'S WHAT I OFFER FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS OF MY EXPERTISE AND SEE WHERE WERE AT.

MY HAVING A GREAT TIME AND BEING ABLE TO BE PRODUCTIVE, IS MY HEALTH OKAY, OBVIOUS AND ONE OF THE OLD GUYS, THE GRAY HAIR AND ALL OF THAT.

THERE'S A LOT OF FACTORS THAT WOULD GO INTO THAT, I JUST DON'T KNOW.

>> WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER.

>> I WANT TO HELP THE COLLEGE.

I HAVE EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE.

I'VE BEEN ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE WHO COVERED THIS TRUSTEE AREA 10 TIMES, NINE TIMES DISTRICT WIDE AND DOWNEY UNIFIED WHICH COVERED THE ENTIRE TRUSTEE AREA AND ONE TIME AFTER WE WENT TO DISTRICTS IT COVERS ABOUT HALF OF THE TRUSTEE AREA.

I KNOW THE PEOPLE I KNOW THE AREA.

I'M WILLING TO COME ABOARD AND HELP BRING CERRITOS COLLEGE FURTHER ALONG.

OVER THE LAST EIGHT YEARS CERRITOS COLLEGE HAS MADE GREAT MOVEMENT FROM BEING A GOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO BEEN A GREAT ONE BUT THERE IS STILL MORE TO DO.

I WOULD THINK OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS AS A GROUP CONTINUE TO MOVE CERRITOS COLLEGE FORWARD.

SORE, I READ THIS STUFF.

>> THANK YOU STUDENT TRUSTEE.

>> IN WHAT WAYS WILL YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO ENSURE YOUR DECISION-MAKING AS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS.

>> WE ARE HERE FOR STUDENTS.

THAT'S WHY THIS COLLEGE EXIST.

ESPECIALLY COMMUNITY COLLEGES, COLLEGES OF ALL TYPES EXIST THROUGH ENHANCE STUDENTS.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE K-12 SYSTEM.

THERE IS AN ELEMENT OF PEOPLE NEED TO HAVE SOME PLACE TO PUT THEIR KIDS DURING THE DAY.

SCHOOLS FILL THAT FUNCTION TWO.

THERE IS NOTHING THAT SAYS YOU NEED TO COME TO COLLEGE, WE NEED TO PROVIDE YOU THE RESOURCES THAT ARE GOING TO HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE MOVE FORWARD, THAT'S WHAT I WOULD DO.

I'D BE HAPPY TO MEET WITH STUDENTS.

OBVIOUSLY WHEN YOU HIGH SCHOOL, JUNIOR HIGH, MIDDLE SCHOOL DISTRICT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE MEETING AS MUCH WITH STUDENTS.

HEAR YOUR STRONG VOICE FOR THE STUDENT, THE STUDENT TRUSTEE, THE CITY GOVERNMENT, BE HAPPY TO MEET AND MAKE SURE THE ACTIONS WERE TAKEN REASONABLY WERE

[00:50:04]

HELPING THE STUDENT.

ARE WE ALWAYS GOING TO AGREE, NO.

ARE WE ALWAYS GOING TO AGREE WITH THE CLASSIFIED UNIT, NO.

ARE WE ALWAYS GOING TO AGREE WITH THE FACULTY UNIT, NO.

BUT THAT'S THE WAY IT IS.

WE ALWAYS HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE VIEWS OF EVERY CONSTITUENT GROUP AND SEE HOW WE CAN BEST MEET THEIR NEEDS.

AS I MENTIONED, THE POSSIBILITY OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF SCHEDULES HOW WOULD THAT HELP WITH STUDENT NEEDS., THERE ARE A VARIETY OF THINGS TO IMPROVE THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY COMING BACK FROM COVID TO TRY TO MAKE SURE STUDENTS FEEL PART OF A COLLEGE AND NOT JUST SITTING IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN.

I'M SURE YOU DID NOT ENJOY THAT PART.

>> THANK YOU MR. LAPLANTE, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US, JUST TO GIVE YOU A SENSE YOU'VE APPROXIMATELY TWO, THREE MINUTES.

A COUPLE OTHER ITEMS I'D LIKE TO BRING FORTH.

AS YOU SAW WITH THE PACKET I SENT IN I HAVE A LONG LIST OF EXPERIENCE IN POSITIONS I'VE HELD.

I WANT TO NOTE THE DOWNEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPPORTS MY APPOINTMENT.

THEY SENT THAT LETTER RECOMMENDATION.

AND THEY WERE THE ONES WERE CALLING ME SAYING YOU OUGHT TO GO APPLY FOR THAT YOU COULD BE OF VALUE TO THEM.

A COUPLE OTHER THINGS LOOK GOING TO BE IMPORTANT IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS.

ONE THING I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE DOCTOR FIERRO AND THE STUFF OF DENIGRATE JOB OF TRYING TO GET EARLY COLLEGE GOING.

I THINK THE ONE GOAL THIS COLLEGE NEEDS TO HAVE IS TO HAVE IT AT EVERY PUBLIC AND PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOL THAT IS WILLING TO TAKE IT.

IF THE SCHOOL SAYS GO AWAY WE DON'T WANT EARLY COLLEGE, OKAY, CAN'T FORCE IT.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS EARLY COLLEGE FOR EVERY HIGH SCHOOL IN THIS DISTRICT.

PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.

AS YOU GO FORWARD, CONSTRUCTION IS GOING TO BE A BIG ISSUE.

IF PROPOSITION CC PASSES THERE IS GOING TO BE SEVERAL HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS THAT NEED TO BE FIGURED OUT HOW TO SPEND PRODUCTIVELY AND QUICKLY.

SO IS PROJECTS CONTENT AS QUICKLY AS THEY CAN TO MAKE SURE TO USE THE MONEY THE BEST.

AND IF IT DOESN'T PASS THE BERGEN HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT DO WE DO AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE FOR FIX.

WHAT ARE THE HIGHEST PRIORITIES FOR THE REMAINING MONEY IN THE CURRENT BOND AND OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND.

BUT THAT'S GOING TO BE A VERY IMPORTANT SET OF DECISIONS FOR THIS BOARD NO MATTER WHICH WAY PROPOSITION CC GOES.

CONSTRUCTION IS GOING TO BE AN IMPORTANT ITEM.

I HAVE SERVED ON THE OVERSIGHT BOARD FOR THE CITY OF DOWNEY BOND PROGRAM AND NOW I SERVE ON THE OVERSIGHT BOARD FOR THE DOWNEY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I THINK THAT'S ABOUT TIME, MUCH APPRECIATED.

>> THANK YOU WELL I APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT, THANK YOU ALL THAT YOU DO FOR CERRITOS COLLEGE.

>> OUR NEXT CANDIDATE IS XAVIER.

>> GOOD EVENING.

WE HAVE 15 MINUTES, EACH OF US ARE GOING TO READ A QUESTION THAT WE PREPARED AT THE END I WILL ASK IF YOU HAVEN'T QUESTIONS FOR US.

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

>> THE FIRST QUESTION I'M ASKING ON BEHALF OF TRUSTEE PEREZ WHO IS NOT HERE TONIGHT, CERRITOS COLLEGE CELEBRATES THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STUDENTS, OUR EMPLOYEES AND THE COMMUNITY, CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR COMMITMENT AND SERVICE TO UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS AND HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> I THINK MY UPBRINGING DEFINITELY HELPS FACILITATE SOME OF THE AGRIPPA MEXICAN HOUSEHOLD WITH A MEXICAN MOTHER, HOWEVER, I AM BLACK, I DON'T LOOK BACK I AM BLACK.

I'VE BEEN PERCEIVED ONE WAY BUT ONCE PEOPLE GET TO KNOW ME THEY COME ACROSS MY CHARACTER I FEEL LIKE MY DIVERSE UPBRINGING WILL HELP FACILITATE SOME ADAPTER BEING ABLE TO SPEAK SPANISH AND TRAINS AND LANGUAGES WILL DEFINITELY HELP ME IN THE ASPECT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DOCTOR SALAZAR.

>> IN YOUR OPINION WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR STUDENTS PRE-AND POST COVID

[00:55:03]

AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP OUR STUDENTS OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE.

>> I'M SORRY CAN YOU REPEAT YOUR QUESTION.

>> IN YOUR OPINION WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR STUDENTS PRE-AND POST COVID AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP OUR STUDENTS OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE.

>> I'M ACTUALLY CURRENTLY A STUDENT POST COVID AND I WAS A STUDENT PRE-COVID.

SO I KNOW FIRSTHAND SOME OF THE CHALLENGE THAT WE DEAL WITH, WHETHER THAT IS DOOMED MEETINGS BEING HELD AT HOME, NOT BEING ABLE TO GET THE BEST SIGNAL.

SOME OF THE RESOURCES THAT WE CAN USED TO HELP THEM OVERCOME THAT WOULD BE TO ADVOCATE, TO HELP THEM TO ACCESS TO EITHER HOTSPOT OR SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> IS MY QUESTION.

THIS BOARD HAS BENEFITED FROM A DIVERSITY OF TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE IN LAW, MEDICINE, FINANCE, EDUCATION, PUBLIC POLICY AND SO ON.

WHAT TECHNICAL EXPERTISE DO YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD BRING?

>> SO YOU MENTIONED LAW, I WAS A POLICE EXPLORER FOR FOUR YEARS, I'M CURRENTLY A PUBLIC ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, I BEEN DOING THAT FOR SIX YEARS SO I'VE COME IN CONTACT WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT ETHNIC GROUPS AND IF YOU LIKE I CAN BRING SOME OF THAT EXPERIENCE, SOME OF THAT EXPOSURE WITH ME TO THIS POSITION BEING THAT I HAVE SUCH A BROAD EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE EVER HAD ANYBODY IN ANIMAL CONTROL BUT IF NOT I'D LIKE TO BE THE FIRST.

I DEFINITELY THINK I CAN BRING THAT EXPERIENCE WITH ME.

>> THANK YOU.

DOCTOR LIU.

>> HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?

>> AS SOME OF YOU GUYS MAY KNOW, MY MOTHER WAS -- SHE'S A GOOD SPEAKER.

CONSEQUENTLY SHE DEVELOPED IS A GREAT LISTENER.

I FEEL LIKE IF I LISTEN TO THE DEMANDS OF THE REQUEST OF THE STUDENTS I CAN HELP FACILITATE AND VOTE ON THEIR BEHALF.

>> THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> IF APPOINTED WILL YOU SEEK A FULL TERM TO THIS POSITION IN 2024?

>> NO I DO NOT HAVE ASPIRATIONS OF CONTINUING A POLITICAL CAREER, MY ASPIRATIONS ARE ACTUALLY TO BE PUBLIC -- PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT.

AM CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A COUPLE OF SCIENCE COURSES TO REACH THOSE GOALS.

SO I DON'T HAVE ANY POLITICAL ASPIRATIONS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE.

>> WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE A CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE ONLY AN INTERN?

>> YES.

>> WHY WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE IN THIS POSITION.

>> I DEFINITELY THINK THAT I CAN HELP THE BOARD WITH MY EXPERIENCE.

LIKE I MENTIONED I FEEL LIKE OF A DIFFERENT UPBRINGING AND THE DIFFERENT BACKGROUND I FEEL LIKE SOME OF MY EXPERIENCES WILL HELP RESONATE WITH THE STUDENTS AND HELP THEM PROGRESS BY VOTING ON THEIR BEHALF AND THEN I LIKE I MENTIONED I DON'T PLAN ON DOING THIS LONG-TERM BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER ASPIRATIONS.

>> THANK YOU, STUDENT TRUSTEE.

>> IN WHAT WAYS WOULD YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO ENSURE YOUR DECISION-MAKING AS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

>> AND YOU REPEAT YOUR QUESTION.

>> YES AND WHAT WAY WILL YOU COOPERATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO ENSURE THAT YOUR DECISION-MAKING IS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

>> LIKE I MENTIONED I'M CURRENTLY A STUDENT I KNOW FIRSTHAND THE PRESSURES OF HAVING TO GO HOME TO STUDY.

I DEFINITELY FEEL LIKE I CAN RESONATE WITH THEM AND I DEFINITELY THINK THAT SOME OF THEM EXPERIENCE WILL BE REFLECTED IN MY VOTING.

CAN YOU REPEAT YOUR QUESTION, SORRY I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU ANSWER ALL PARTS.

>> OF COURSE.

>> IN WHAT WAY WILL YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO ENSURE THAT YOUR DECISION-MAKING IS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

>> I'M ALSO VERY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE GYM SO I PLAN ON UTILIZING THE GYM HANGING OUT AND ON CAMPUS, GETTING MY FACE FAMILIAR LIES WHERE THEY FEEL LIKE THEY CAN APPROACH ME AND WE CAN HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YOU HAVE SOME REMAINING TIME COME ABOUT EIGHT MINUTES, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US.

>> YES IS ABORTIVE TRUSTEE WHAT TYPES OF CHARACTER TRAITS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR DOES ANYBODY WANT TO ANSWER THAT?

>> I THINK WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE, WE WON'T AGREE ON EVERYTHING BUT WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN COLLABORATE AND THAT WE WORK AS A TEAM IN OUR PRIMARY

[01:00:06]

GOAL IS OUR STUDENTS, FACULTY AND TO MOVE US FORWARD INTO CREATE EVEN BETTER CLASSES AND BETTER SITUATIONS FOR STUDENTS SO THEY CAN SUCCEED ONCE THEY LEAVE US AND CONTINUE COLLEGE LIKE YOU, I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY THAT YOU ARE CONTINUING YOUR EDUCATION SOMETHING LIKE THAT WHERE WE ARE FOSTERING THAT SO WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THAT CAN COLLABORATE SO WE CAN MEET THOSE GOALS.

>> OKAY I DEFINITELY FEEL LIKE I WOULD FIT THAT CHARACTER.

LIKE I MENTIONED I HAVE MORE THAN JUST POLITICAL ASPIRATIONS I DON'T HAVE ANY MY ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO HELP CARE FOR THOSE AND SHARE MY KNOWLEDGE WITH THOSE, LIKE I MENTIONED I'M AN ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER SO I'M USED TO BEING A VOICE TO THE VOICELESS HOWEVER, IT WOULD BE EASIER IF WE COULD HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND I CAN VOTE ON THEIR BEHALF.

>> TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> AS AN OWNER OF A RESCUE DOG, PERHAPS YOUR SHELTER, I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THAT REPRESENTS THE DISTRICT WELL THERE IS A REASON THAT WE MOVED TO DISTRICTS AND WE HAVE A PRETTY WIDE SWATH OF SOUTHEAST L.A.

COUNTY TO LAKEWOOD AND EVERYWHERE IN BETWEEN.

SO WE HAVE OUR SEPARATIST EXTRA REASON, I WANT TO SEE SOMEONE THAT IS WELL KNOWN AND WELL CONNECTED IN THAT COMMUNITY THAT THEY SEEK TO REPRESENT EVEN IF IT IS FOR ONLY TWO YEARS.

>> DEFINITELY AS ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER AND PRETTY FAMILIAR, WE SERVICED 14 CITIES A LOT OF THEM HAPPEN TO BE IN THIS DISTRICT RECOVERED BY THE CERRITOS COLLEGE IN A HAVE NO ISSUE WITH COMING ACROSS AND TALKING TO THEM AND INFORMING THEM ABOUT THE CHANGES WITH THE LAWS AND HELPING THEM GET THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY NEED.

>> DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR US?

>> NO NOT AT THIS TIME, THANK YOU, GUYS.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> OUR NEXT CANDIDATE.

>> ONE SECOND, IS THAT OKAY?

>> NOTHING ELSE.

>> ALRIGHT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE ARE GOING TO GET 15 MINUTES IN WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO WE ARE GOING TO ASK SEVEN DIFFERENT QUESTIONS, ONE FOR EACH TRUSTEE.

I'M GOING TO ASK ONE ON BEHALF OF TRUSTEE PEREZ AS WELL IN WITH ANY REMAINING TIME ALL ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US.

>> VERY GOOD, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ON BEHALF OF TRUSTEE PEREZ CERRITOS COLLEGE CELEBRATE THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STUDENTS, OUR EMPLOYEES AND OUR COMMUNITY.

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR COMMITMENT AND SERVICE TO UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS AND HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> OKAY FIRST OF ALL I WANT TO SAY GOOD EVENING TO EVERYONE AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO JUST BE HERE AND NOW RESPONDING TO YOUR QUESTION, HOWEVER, MY BRINGING OR HOW IT MIGHT HELP IN QUESTIONING.

>> TO WANT ME TO RESTATE THE QUESTION?

>> CERRITOS COLLEGE CELEBRATE THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STUDENTS, OUR EMPLOYEES AND OUR COMMUNITY.

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR COMMITMENT AND SERVICE TO UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS AND HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> LET ME START BY SAYING I AM VERY PROUD CERRITOS COLLEGE GRADUATE.

FOR SOME STUDENTS FOR SOME PEOPLE USE CERRITOS COLLEGE AS THEIR FIRST STOP.

[01:05:01]

OTHERS USE IT AS A LAST STOP AND THIS CASE I USE CERRITOS COLLEGE AS MY LAST STOP BUT LET ME TELL YOU THAT I NOT BE ANYMORE PROUD OF BEING ABLE TO OBTAIN THE CLASSES BACK IN THOSE YEARS WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE BUS TO GET HERE.

A YOUNG KID 18 USUAL ON MY OWN NO PARENTS, NO FAMILY AROUND IN THE COUNTRY.

I CAME IN FOR A TWO WEEK VACATION.

THIS ACTUALLY WASN'T MY DREAM TO COME HERE.

I CAME IN FOR A VACATION.

IT WAS NOT MY PERIODS DURING, THEY SAID YOU CAN WORK OVER THERE IN THE UNITED STATES.

I DID NOT WANT TO ARGUE WITH THEM.

I JUST WANTED THE VACATION TO COME HERE.

AND JUST TO THINK THAT I MADE IT HERE AND DECIDED THINGS CHANGE A LITTLE BIT IN MY PARENTS DREAM BEING 18 YEARS OF AGE, HAD TO SWITCH FROM IT BEING THERE DREAM TO MY DREAM BECAUSE I DECIDED I WAS GOING TO STAY HERE ALL THINGS DID NOT WORK OUT WELL I DID GO TO SCHOOL AND START MY ESL CLASSES AND I AM VERY GRATEFUL OF WHAT THE SCHOOL DID FOR ME.

SO I AM PROOF THAT STUDENTS WITH A CERTIFICATE OR A DEGREE OF CERRITOS COLLEGE CAN BE SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE I AM THE REPRESENTATION AND I HAVE BEEN VERY ACTIVE HERE AND UP TO THIS DAY THAT HAPPENED IN THE 1980S, SOMEBODY -- YOU WERE NOT BORN.

SOME OF YOU WERE NOT.

I MET MY HUSBAND I ESL CLASSES WE HAD JUST BOTH COME IN FROM TWO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, HIM FROM EL SALVADOR AND ME FROM MEXICO.

WE MET LEARNING ENGLISH AND THEY WERE HELPING US, GUIDING US TO COME IN, THEY WERE SAYING YOU'VE GOT TO GO, YOU HAVE TO GO TO CERRITOS COLLEGE, YOU HAVE A GOOD HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS AND YOU GOTTA GO TRANSFER OVER THERE.

WE BOTH DID, WE WERE DATED THERE, WE MET IN THEIR, HE ACTUALLY PROPOSED AT THAT SCHOOL AND WE'VE BEEN MARRIED FOR 36 YEARS ALREADY.

AND WE HAVE TWO AMAZING KIDS THAT ALSO AT SOME POINT CAME IN AND ATTENDED CERRITOS COLLEGE ON CLASSES ON SUMMER CAMP.

THANK GOD WE HELP THEM TO REALLY GO TO ACHIEVE THE DREAM THAT THEY WANTED.

GO INTO THE UNIVERSITIES OF THEIR CHOICE.

MY SON, THANK GOD, HE WANTED TO BE A HISTORY PROFESSOR AND THROUGH THAT TIME HE CHANGED AND HE REMINDED ME, DOCTOR FERRER I THINK I MENTIONED TO THE STATE OF THE CITY LAST WEEK AND, THE SAME THING YOU TOLD YOUR PARENTS, MY SON TOLD ME.

HE WANTED TO BE A HISTORY PROFESSOR AND SINCE HE WAS SEVEN YEARS OLD, HE TOLD THE MOM I WANT TO GO TO STUDY IN ITALY AND I WAS LIKE SURE, YEAH, RIGHT.

ANYWAY HE MADE IT ONE YEAR STUDYING ABROAD.

THAT KID CAME IN WRITING, READING AND SPEAKING I ITALIAN.

THE MINUTE THAT HE ARRIVED IN ITALY HE EMERGED HIMSELF IN THE LANGUAGE.

WE HELP OUR KIDS AND MY DAUGHTER ONE OF THE YOUNGEST IN THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS SHE MADE IT ALSO NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI SO WE STARTED FROM THE VERY HUMBLE, THE LOWEST AND ECONOMIC TO KIDS, I CALL MYSELF A KID, AT THAT TIME NOBODY ELSE TO HELP ME ONLY WORKING HARD, TO JOBS, FULL-TIME, PART-TIME AND

[01:10:08]

HOWEVER, I SQUEEZED MY CLASSES AND CERRITOS COLLEGE I GOT IT.

I STILL REMEMBER DRIVING ALONG THE BOULEVARD AND DRIVING PIONEER TO MAKE IT TO MY ONE LITTLE ROOM THAT I WAS RENTING THERE ALONE.

>> I'M SORRY, I DON'T WANT TO INTERRUPT YOU BUT WE HAVE 15 MINUTES AND I THANK YOU HAVE SEVEN LEFT AND WE HAVE SIX QUESTIONS.

>> ON MY GOD, I'M SORRY.

>> I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS.

>> SURE, THANK YOU.

>> DOCTOR SALAZAR.

>> THANK YOU.

>> YOUR QUESTION.

>> IN YOUR OPINION WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR STUDENTS POST COVID AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP HER STUDENTS OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE.

>> WHAT WAS THEIR CHALLENGE? PRE-COVID.

>> THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF OUR STUDENTS PRE-AND POST COVID AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP HER STUDENTS OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE.

>> GOING THROUGH THAT AND SEEING HOW MUCH THEY SUFFER, HOW MUCH THEY WENT THROUGH ON THAT PANDEMIC.

WE REALIZED, A LOT OF THEM, WHERE THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE INTERNET IN THEIR HOMES, WHERE THEY DIDN'T HAVE COMPUTERS.

A LOT OF THEM FOR WHAT I UNDERSTAND THEY HAD TO BORROW COMPUTERS SO IT WAS LIKE A BIG SITUATION THAT WAS CREATED OR WE GOT AWARE, I INCLUDE MYSELF WE BECAUSE I LIKE TO STAY ALERT ON WHAT IS GOING ON, I DIDN'T JUST COME IN FOR THIS, A LOT OF YOU, MOST OF YOU SEE ME AND I KNOW ALMOST ALL OF YOU BY NAME.

I AM HERE I BEEN HERE HELPING THE STUDENTS, I DID NOT COMMEND FOR JUST THE POSITION SO I WANT TO HELP THE STUDENTS I KNOW I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND I KNOW I CAN HELP THEM I SEE WHERE THEIR NEED IS MY PRIORITY HAS BEEN ALWAYS HELPING AS MUCH AS I CAN AND ESPECIALLY SEEING THE NEED NOW THAT IS AFTER COVID I WOULD LOVE TO BE PART ALL OF YOU SITTING THERE AND YOU WILL SEE, YOU ALL HAVE MY SUPPORT.

I WANT TO MAKE SOME CHANGES, I VISUALIZED A VISION THINGS HOW I CAN HELP AND I DON'T THINK IT'S EXACTLY THE TIME TO SAY WHAT I WOULD DO ABOUT IT, I'M TELLING YOU I'M REALLY HERE FOR THE STUDENTS BECAUSE BOTTOM LINE, CERRITOS COLLEGE HELPED ME AND I WANT TO HELP ALL THIS.

>> THANK YOU, I'M ONLY CUTTING YOU OUT BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO ANSWER AS MANY QUESTIONS AS YOU CAN WITH THE TIME REMAINING.

THE BOARD HAS BENEFITED FROM A DIVERSITY OF TECHNICAL EXPERIENCES IN LAW, MEDICINE, FINANCE, EDUCATION, PUBLIC POLICY AND SOMEONE, WHAT TECHNICAL EXPERTISE DO YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD BRING.

>> TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, I AM A VERY, I WOULD SAY POSITIVE, AMBITIOUS PERSON AND I CAN HELP ESPECIALLY IN THE BUDGET I GUESS I HELP AND ALLOCATION OF FUNDS.

I HAVE ALWAYS WORKED IN THE FINANCES AND I HAVE WORK AS A CASHIER, I STARTED HERE AS A CASHIER AND FROM THERE FOR SOME REASON WHATEVER BOARDS I GO THEY ALWAYS OFFER ME TREASURE AND I KNOW HOW TO HANDLE MONEY AND I AM VERY PROUD, VERY GOOD ON USING ZEROS.

I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE SO I'M TALKING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS, SOME MILLIONS.

A FEW ZEROS IN THEIR SO I KNOW I CAN HELP ON THAT BIG-TIME.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR LOU.

>> SORRY TO INTERRUPT WE HAVE FOUR MINUTES.

>> HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?

>> HOW WOULD I DESCRIBE MY LEADERSHIP, AGAIN I MOVE A LOT OF PEOPLE, I AM A PERSON WHEN I BELIEVE ON SOMETHING AND I ALWAYS TAKE BOTH SIDES WERE WHATEVER OPINIONS, I'M

[01:15:02]

A PERSON THAT CAN MOVE MASSES, I MOVE A LOT OF PEOPLE INTO GIVE YOU AN IDEA HOW I SEE MYSELF AS A LEADER I'M ACTUALLY SOMETIMES SURPRISE MYSELF HOW I MOVE AND LEAD PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF YOU REMEMBER GLORIA RIGHT HERE IN NORWALK BACK IN THE '90S.

SHE WAS HERE IN ONE OF THE RECORD COMPANIES.

THE STREETS WERE PACKED BUT MY DAUGHTER WANTED TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH GLORIA SO HOW ARE WE GOING TO MAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE FRONT, THE PEOPLE WERE RIGHT THERE AT THE DOOR SO THEY COULD NOT EVEN OPEN IT I'M TALKING ABOUT IN THE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE.

I MADE IT TO THE FRONT AND I TOLD THE SECURITY GUARDS I MOVE THE PEOPLE IF YOU WANT ME TO MY KNEES THAT YOU CAN BECAUSE THEY WERE TELLING THE MOVE BACK, MID BACK.

>> YOU ONE MINUTE REMAINING INTO QUESTIONS.

>> OKAY.

>> TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> IF APPOINTED WILL USE A FULL TERM TO THIS POSITION IN 2024.

>> WOULD I SEEK THE FULL TERM WERE RUNNING FOR IT.

>> RUN FOR A FULL TERM IN 2024?

>> YOU KNOW WHAT, THINKING ABOUT IT, JUST COMING HERE AND JUST GETTING THIS POSITION IT WOULD BE LIKE MY ULTIMATE, IT IS MY ULTIMATE GOAL TO HELP AND TO SERVE EVEN MORE CERRITOS COLLEGE, I REALLY SEE SOME CHANGES I CANNOT DISCLOSE I JUST SAW SOMETHING THAT I CAN CHANGE BY BEING HERE AND I'LL MAKE IT HAPPEN AND YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY DOCTOR FIERRO.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I WANT TO SAY NO I'M NOT PLANNING ON RUNNING LATER.

I THINK JUST BEING HERE IN THIS POSITION THAT WILL MAKE ME VERY HAPPY AND I WOULD HELP YOU SEARCH FOR A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THIS SEAT.

>> ALRIGHT.

>> ANYBODY.

>> ONE MORE MINUTE.

>> STUDENT TRUSTEE.

>> IN WHAT WAYS WILL YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO ENSURE THAT YOUR DECISION-MAKING AS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

>> THE PERFECT QUESTION, OKAY.

I WILL BE HAVING MEETINGS I WILL BE HELPING YOU AND I WILL BE MORE PRESENT AS YOU HAVE SEEN ME HERE MANY TIMES I WOULD BE SO EMBOLDENED WANTING TO HAVE, ESPECIALLY WITH YOU AND PRESIDENT FIERRO AND WHOEVER ELSE TO DISCUSS OR THE STUDENT BODY TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES I WAS PTA, VICE PRESIDENT, TREASURER FOR CHICO STATE UNIVERSITY ALSO FOR ST. JOHN.

I AM USED TO DEALING WITH THE STUDENTS, HELPING THE STUDENTS IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, WHERE THERE IS SORRY TO SAY, CHICO THEY WERE VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS AND I WAS ONE OF THE LEADERS FROM HERE IN CHICO STATE THAT WORKED IN THE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF LEADERS AND I WAS ONE OF THEM AND I MAKE SURE THAT WE PUT SOME CHANGES IN THEIR TO HELP THE STUDENTS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> THAT'S IT.

>> YES THAT'S IT.

>> THANK YOU OUR NEXT CANDIDATE [INAUDIBLE] >> THANK YOU.

>> HELLO MS. GREEN, WE HAVE 15 MINUTES FOR SEVEN QUESTIONS.

EACH OF US TRUSTEES ARE GOING TO ASK A QUESTION A PREWRITTEN QUESTION AND IF WE HAVE TIME LEFT OVER AT THE END WE WILL ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US,

[01:20:03]

THANK YOU.

THE FIRST QUESTION I'M GOING TO ASK ON BEHALF OF TRUSTEE PEREZ WHO IS NOT HERE TONIGHT, SHE ASKED CERRITOS COLLEGE CELEBRATES THE DIVERSITY OF OUR STUDENTS, OUR EMPLOYEES AND THE COMMUNITY, CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR COMMITMENT AND SERVICE TO UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS AND HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> I WILL GIVE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND IN MY HISTORY I AM A PROUD GRADUATE OF LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL AND IT WAS IN MY SENIOR CLASS THAT I HAD TO WRITE AN ACTION PLAN AND IN THE ACTION PLAN I STATED I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR ALL STUDENTS ESPECIALLY WITH STUDENTS IN MY COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES SO THEY HAVE ACCESS TO HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION SO I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT DIVERSITY, I'VE ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS AND OF COURSE IN THE AREA THAT I GREW UP IN WERE REALLY SPEAKING ABOUT HER BLACK AND BROWN POPULATION IN STUDENTS WHO HAVE DEFINITELY ENDURED SYSTEMATIC BARRIERS THAT DIDN'T ALLOW THEM CERTAIN OPPORTUNITIES TO BE SUCCESSFUL ESPECIALLY EVEN IN EDUCATION.

I HAVE COMMITTED MY CAREER AND MY GOALS TO DIVERSITY AND TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL.

THE SECOND PART OF THE QUESTION, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO REPEAT?

>> SURE.

>> HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE VARIOUS INTEREST THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

>> ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I DO AS A LEADER IS MAKING SURE I GET AND POST FROM ALL STAKEHOLDERS AND AS A PERSON IN A BOARD POSITION YOU ARE HERE TO SERVE ON BEHALF OF THE PUBLIC INTEREST.

IT WOULD BE CRITICAL FOR ME TO MAKE SURE THAT I'M IN THE COMMUNITY, BUILDING THOSE RELATIONSHIPS THAT I AM LISTENING AND BRINGING BACK THE BOYS, THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY AND OUR PEOPLE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DOCTOR SALAZAR.

>> IN YOUR OPINION WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR STUDENTS PRE-AND POST-COVID AND WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO HELP HER STUDENTS OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE.

>> PRE-COVID LET'S JUST TAKE A LOOK AT ENROLLMENT IN RECENT WHY WE ARE NOT GETTING THE NUMBERS FOR ENROLLMENT.

WE HAVE TO LOOK AT COLLEGE CAREER PATHWAYS AND MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT EXIST ESPECIALLY WHILE THEY ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL I AM REALLY FOR AB 288 THAT ALLOWS A DUAL ENROLLMENT.

POST-COVID, MAKING SURE IT IS ABOUT KNOWLEDGE AND SPREADING THE INFORMATION ON PROGRAMS THAT ARE COMMUNITY COLLEGES HAVE TO OFFER WITH COVID I KNOW THAT WE SHIFTED TO ONLINE LEARNING SO THAT WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR MANY PEOPLE, WE ARE TRANSITIONING BACK TO ON-CAMPUS WE HAVE GREAT WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IN RECOUPING THE STUDENTS THAT DID FALL OFF DURING COVID SO LOOKING AT WAYS THAT WE CAN GO INTO THE COMMUNITY TO SEE HOW WE CAN PARTNER WITH OUR SCHOOLS, HOW WE CAN PARTNER WITH A LOCAL INDUSTRY SO WE CAN GET THOSE WORKING AND STUDENTS BACK IN SO THEY CAN FINISH CERTIFICATIONS AND THEIR TRAINING AND THERE IS THINGS OF THAT SORT, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, MY QUESTION THIS BOARD HAS BENEFITED FROM A DIVERSITY OF TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE IN LAW AND MEDICINE AND FINANCING EDUCATION, PUBLIC POLICY AND SO ON.

WHAT TECHNICAL AREAS OF EXPERTISE DO YOU BELIEVE YOU COULD BRING.

>> MY BACKGROUND IS IN EDUCATION, HOWEVER, AGAIN I FEEL THAT I AM A SERVANT LEADER, WITH THAT I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE IN MANY CAPACITIES AS A LEADER, CURRENTLY I AM A PRINCIPAL AT AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THAT MEANS I WEAR A LOT OF HATS.

I DO HAVE SKILLS AND POLICY AND SKILLS BEING ON DIFFERENT ADVISORY COUNCILS.

I HAVE SKILLS AS IT RELATES TO FISCAL.

I HAVE SKILLS AS IT RELATES TO COMMUNITY.

LIKE I SAID FORGET IN THE STAKEHOLDERS AND LISTENING TO THE NEEDS OF THOSE THAT I WORK WITH AND REALLY ULTIMATELY AS I STATED IN MY ACTION PLAN I AM COMMITTED TO HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION SO I FEEL EVERYONE ON THE BOARD HAS THAT SAME COMMITMENT AS

[01:25:05]

IT IS ALIGNED WITH THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES MISSION.

I DO FEEL THAT MY BACKGROUND, MY EXPERIENCE IN MY PASSIONS ALIGNED WITH THE MISSION OF THIS BOARD IN THE MISSION OF THE CERRITOS COLLEGE DISTRICT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DOCTOR LOU.

>> HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE.

>> I KIND OF ANSWER THAT BUT I WILL ELABORATE ON IT.

I DO TRULY BELIEVE THAT I HAVE A SERVANT LEADERSHIP STYLE AS WELL AS A SHARED LEADERSHIP STYLE.

I BELIEVE ALTHOUGH I AM A LEADER IT TAKES MORE THAN JUST ME WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER SO I AM A STRONG PROPONENT OF TEAMBUILDING AND TEAMWORK IN WORKING TOGETHER TO CREATE EFFECTIVE RESULTS.

THAT WOULD BE MORE SO MY LEADERSHIP STYLE GOING BACK TO THE SERVANT LEADERSHIP.

AGAIN IT IS FOR ALL, I EMPHASIZE ALL.

I'M TALKING ABOUT OUR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, I'M TALKING ABOUT OUR LATINO POPULATION.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN POPULATION, OR WOMEN, GAY AND LESBIAN AND LGBTQ COMMUNITY.

IT IS EVERYONE THAT I AM SERVING SO AGAIN THE LEADERSHIP STYLES THAT ARE MOST IDENTIFIED WITH OUR SERVANT LEADERSHIP AS WELL AS SHARED LEADERSHIP.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> IF APPOINTED WILL YOU SEEK A FULL TERM TO THIS POSITION IN 2024.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

I AM A LIFELONG LEARNER I WILL TELL YOU I REALLY CONTEMPLATED MY APPLICATION BECAUSE SOMETIMES WE ALWAYS SAY AM I READY FOR THIS, CAN I DO THIS SO I HAD A LONG CONVERSATION WITH MYSELF AND I'M LIKE YES YOU CAN BECAUSE YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COMMITTED TO SERVICE.

WITH THAT I FEEL THAT MY EXPERIENCE BEING ON THE BOARD, LEARNING FROM CURRENT MEMBERS ON THE BOARD I FEEL I WILL DEFINITELY GET MY FOOT INTO THIS ARENA AND I FEEL I AM A GREAT FIT AND IS SOMETHING I WOULD WANT TO CONTINUE.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE.

>> WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE AT THE CERRITOS BOARD OF COLLEGE, THE CERRITOS BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

>> AS I STATED PREVIOUSLY I FEEL THAT MY PASSION AND MY PURPOSE ALIGNED WITH THE CERRITOS COLLEGE MISSION AND GOALS.

I KNOW ON THE ABOARD CURRENTLY HAS SOME GOALS THAT YOU'RE WORKING ON THAT INCLUDE THAT PARTNERSHIP, THE K-12 PARTNERSHIP I FEEL THAT MY EXPERIENCE WORKING IN ELEMENTARY AND WORKING IN SECONDARY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL I WAS TRULY ABLE TO SEE HOW CRITICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES ARTWORK COMMUNITY.

IT WAS THERE THAT I SAW HOW DUAL ENROLLMENT REALLY PROMOTES THE SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENTS UPON GRADUATION, HOW HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION AT MINIMAL COST HELPS THE FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

HOW ALLOWING OUR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS GIVING THEM THE PATHWAY TO THE CAREERS THAT WILL HELP PROMOTE COMMUNITY COMMERCE.

IT IS ALL INTERTWINED.

SO, WITH THAT I JUST FEEL THAT I DEFINITELY CONTRIBUTE GREATLY TO THE WORK THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY DOING.

WHEN I LOOK AT THE OTHER GOAL THAT YOU HAVE JUST IN REGARDS TO THE MAJOR THAT YOU HAVE CURRENTLY ON THE BALLOT IN NOVEMBER I WOULD LOVE TO BE A PART OF BREAKING DOWN THE SYSTEMATIC BARRIERS, IDENTIFYING WHAT THEY ARE AND WORKING TO ELIMINATE THEM IN GIVING EDUCATIONAL ACCESS TO ALL STUDENTS.

WHEN I LOOK AT THAT AND LIKE I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE I WORK WITH THE BOARD AND BE A PART OF THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE ALREADY HAPPENING HERE AT THE CERRITOS COLLEGE DISTRICT.

AGAIN I JUST FEEL THAT I'M DEFINITELY AN ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

I WOULD LOVE TO BE A PART OF THAT.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH, STUDENT TRUSTEE.

>> IN WHAT WAYS WILL YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE STUDENT BODY TO ENSURE THAT YOUR DECISION-MAKING IS A TRUSTEE CONTINUOUSLY SUPPORTS THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

>> VISIBILITY.

YOU HAVE TO BE THERE, YOU HAVE TO BE IN THERE THEY HAVE TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE YOU HAVE TO LISTEN INDEFINITELY YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE VOICES OVER STUDENTS AND

[01:30:07]

WHAT THEIR NEEDS ARE, THAT'S ONLY WAY THAT YOU CAN TRULY MAKE THE CHANGES THAT ARE NECESSARY BUT ALSO GOING TO THE DATA WHAT IS THE DATA TELL US, WHAT IS TRULY GOING ON AND HOW CAN WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE THERE BUT ULTIMATELY IT IS COMMUNICATION, VISIBILITY AND HIS SUPPORT.

>> THAT YOU HAVE A FEW MINUTES LEFT YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR US?

>> I DO NOT HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR YOU, HOWEVER, I JUST WANT TO END BY SAYING IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE ON THE BOARD I DO COMMIT TO REPRESENTING THE PUBLIC INTEREST, I DO COMMIT TO ADVOCATING FOR THE BOARD ON BEHALF OF THE DISTRICT I ALSO COMMIT TO MONITORING THE PROGRAMS AND THE QUALITY EDUCATION THAT IS HAPPENING HERE.

I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT IN CLOSE WITH THAT.

AGAIN I AM A LIFELONG LEARNER WHO IS COMMITTED TO EQUITY, ACCESS AND JUSTICE THROUGH HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH MS. GREEN, NOW WE WILL ENTER INTO A BRIEF RECESS.

NO MORE THAN 10 OR 15 MINUTES AND ANDREA WILL COMPILE THE COMMUTATIVE RESULTS WHICH MEANS IF THE TRUSTEES WILL NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF THE INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS AND AFTER THE RESEARCH THE BOARD WILL RECONVENE ON THE DISCUSSION AND THE VOTE WILL TAKE PLACE IN PUBLIC.

THANK YOU.

>> FOR CONFIRMATION HOW DO WE SUBMIT THE ANONYMOUS.

>> TO THIS FORM THERE IS ALSO AN E-MAIL IN YOUR INBOX SO YOU CAN SCAN THE QR OR CLICK ON THE LINK.

>> THANK YOU.

>> WE WILL DISCUSS IN OPEN SESSION IF WE DISCUSS BEFOREHAND THAT IS NOT KOSHER, DON'T DISCUSS BEFOREHAND WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE FOOD THAT IS FOR US OVER THERE.

>> ALRIGHT NORMALLY WE ARE NOT SO INSIDE OUTSIDE INSIDE OUTSIDE AGAIN, IT IS A SPECIAL MEETING WERE GETTING A LOT OF EXERCISE.

THANK YOU TO ALL FIVE OF OUR CANDIDATES THIS EVENING.

WE HAVE MORE DISCUSSION TO GO BUT I JUST REALLY APPRECIATE THE QUALITY OF ALL FIVE OF THE CANDIDATES AND IT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO US, DURING THE SESSION JUST TO CLARIFY DURING THE RECESS WHAT WE DID ALL OF THE TRUSTEES THAT WERE PRESENT SUBMITTED ANONYMOUS VOTES RELATED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL QUESTION AND EACH INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATE'S RESPONSE TO THAT QUESTION AND THAT WAS TABULATED WITHOUT A VISIBILITY BY ANDREA AND WE HAVE THAT INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO ALL THE TRUSTEES AS A NONBINDING SENSE OF HOW THE REST OF THE TRUSTEES PERCEIVE THE INITIAL SESSIONS WITH ALL FIVE CANDIDATES.

THAT BEING SAID, WE HAVE THE HONORED ADVISORY LEVEL BUT WE HAVE NOT DISCUSSED AT ALL IN YOUR REACTIONS TO THE FIVE INTERVIEWS.

WITH I WOULD LIKE TO OPEN IT UP FOR DISCUSSION FOR MY COLLEAGUES IN RELATION TO OUR CANDIDATES TONIGHT IN ANY DISCUSSIONS OR QUESTIONS?

>> I WILL STARTED OFF, THE REASON I PICKED THE QUESTION THAT I DID WHICH IF APPOINTED DO YOU INTEND TO SEEK A FULL TERM IN 2024.

THE MAIN RATIONALE BEHIND THAT QUESTION IS BECAUSE WE WENT TO DISTRICTS SO THAT WE WOULD HAVE REPRESENTATION FROM EACH OF THE INDIVIDUAL AREAS BECAUSE WE HAVE A VERY LARGE SLAW OF SOUTHEAST COUNTY FROM DOWNEY TO LAUDER RADA AND NORWALK TO LAKEWOOD AND EVERYWHERE IN BETWEEN.

SO EACH OF OUR COMMUNITIES IS REPRESENTED BY ONE INDIVIDUAL IN EACH OF US HERE ON THE BOARD EACH REPRESENT OUR OWN INDIVIDUAL DISTRICTS THAT REPRESENT US.

MY RATIONALE BEHIND THAT QUESTION WAS BECAUSE I WANT TO SEE AND I BELIEVE THAT WE

[01:35:03]

SHOULD APPOINT SOMEONE WHO IS A CARETAKER TO THE POSITION BECAUSE OF THOSE OF US THAT ARE IN DISTRICTS SHOULD NOT GIVE THE POWER IN THE PERKS OF INCUMBENCY TO SOMEONE WHO INTENDS TO RUN FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE TERM AND THAT IS NOT A KNOCK AGAINST THE OTHER QUALIFICATION, INDIVIDUAL AND THEIR MERITS IT IS SOMETHING WE AS A BOARD SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE PROPER VOICE OF THOSE INDIVIDUAL DISTRICTS THAT ARE SOUGHT TO BE REPRESENTED CAN HAVE A FAIR SHOT OF ELECTING SOMEONE FROM THE COMMUNITY AND EVERYBODY WHO HAS THE WILL TO SERVE FOR FOUR YEARS CAN HAVE A FAIR SHOT WITHOUT US ON THE BOARD PUTTING A THUMB ON THAT SCALE.

THAT SAID I THINK THAT THOSE CANDIDATES WHO SAID THAT THEY DID NOT INTEND TO SEEK THE FULL POSITION ARE THOSE THAT I PERSONALLY WOULD FAVOR, I THINK EVERYBODY HERE WOULD BE A FANTASTIC BOARD MEMBER AND IF I AM REELECTED TO ANOTHER FOUR-YEAR TERM I LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING ANY OF THE FIVE CANDIDATES THAT HAVE COME FORWARD AND WHATEVER RESPECT WHETHER THERE APPOINTED NOW OR WHETHER THEY WIN ELECTION IN 2024.

THAT IS KIND OF WHERE I STAND AND WANT TO GIVE THE REST OF THE BOARD AND THE PUBLIC WHY I CHOSE THAT QUESTION FOR MY OWN, THANK YOU.

>> INTERESTING TAKE.

OTHER THOUGHTS OR REACTIONS?

>> DOCTOR LIU.

>> I THINK ALL FIVE OF YOU, YOUR GREAT CANDIDATES INJURE EFFORT, THAT'S GREAT, THANK YOU.

WHO EVER WE CHOOSE TO BE FOR THIS TERM IF YOU DID NOT GET IT, TWO YEARS LATER PLEASE FILL IN THE APPLICATION TO GET YOUR OPPORTUNITY.

ALL OF YOUR GREAT, THANK YOU.

ESPECIALLY THANK YOU FOR COMING.

THANK YOU.

>> I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO CAME TO DO THIS INTERVIEW AND YES ALL THE CANDIDATES WOULD BE GREAT TO FILL IN THIS POSITION, THERE WAS SOME CANDIDATES IN MY OPINION THAT HAVE A LOT MORE EXPERIENCE IN REGARDS TO WORKING WITH STUDENTS AND WORKING EXACTLY HOW DO WE MOVE THE COLLEGE FORWARD, HOW DO WE BRING MORE STUDENTS BACK ENTER CAMPUS ESPECIALLY POST-COVID.

ALL IN LOOKING TO HAVE A CANDIDATE THAT CAN WORK COLLABORATIVELY TO GET WITH THE REST OF THE BOARD SO WE CAN REALLY PUT THE NEEDS OF HER STUDENTS AND FACULTY FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.

AND HAVING INCLUSION, THE POPULATION THAT WE SERVE HERE AND YOU AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF YOUR DISTRICT KNOW YOUR DISTRICT BETTER THAN EACH OF US KNOW OUR OWN DISTRICT.

EACH OF US KNOW WHAT TYPE OF A CONSTITUENCY WE HAVE AND WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT THAT WE HAVE WE ARE HERE TO REPRESENT OUR CONSTITUENTS THAT VOTED US IN AND I AGREE WITH DOCTOR LIU IF YOU ARE NOT SELECTED.

I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO STILL SEEK, HAVE THE VOTERS VOTE FOR YOU IF YOU STILL WANT TO SEEK THIS POSITION AND HAVE THEM VOTE YOU WIN.

BECAUSE I THINK ANY OF YOU WOULD BE GREAT IN THIS POSITION.

>> OTHER COMMENTS OR REACTIONS.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE REST OF THE BOARD.

>> I THINK FOR ME AND I APPRECIATE THE WAY THAT YOU FRAMED YOUR COMMENTARY TRUSTEE LEWIS, WHERE DOES YOUR HEART LIE IN TERMS OF HAVING TO MAKE A DIFFICULT DECISION I THINK FOR ME IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE MULTITUDE OF FACTORS, PART OF THE REASON WHY WE HAD SO MANY QUESTIONS AND THE DIVERSITY OF QUESTIONS.

I THINK FOR ME IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE A LEVEL OF COMPETENCY THAT COMES TO THE BOARD IN ORDER TO SOLVE PROBLEMS, RIGHT BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF KINDS OF STUFF THAT WE DEAL WITH ISN'T ALWAYS GLAMOROUS AND A LOT OF TIMES IT'S REALLY

[01:40:03]

DIFFICULT SO HAVING A COLLABORATOR AND TRYING TO SOLVE THOSE IN EXPERIENCE, DOING THAT CAN BE REALLY HELPFUL THING, THAT TO ME WAS IMPORTANT.

ANOTHER PIECE THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT IN MY DELIBERATION IS INABILITY TO FILL THE GAP IN SOME SENSE THAT TRUSTEE LEFT, AND HER ROLE OVER MANY, MANY YEARS WAS A CONSTANT ADVOCATE FOR THE UNDERREPRESENTED AND THAT WAS NEVER PERFORMATIVE, SOMETIMES MAYBE A LITTLE BIT BUT IN GENERAL SHE WAS JUST EXTRAORDINARY AND HER ABILITY TO REALLY CUT THROUGH THE BS AND FOCUS HOW THIS IMPACTS STUDENTS.

LIKE THAT PERSPECTIVE AND UNDERSTANDING HOW THAT COMPONENT OF OUR BOARD IS NOW GONE AND HOW TO FILL IN THE GAP IN ADDITION TO THOSE CORE PROFESSIONAL CAPABILITIES AND EXECUTIVE THINKING THAT I THINK WE STILL NEED, THOSE ARE SOME OF MY CORE CONSIDERATIONS, OTHERS?

>> DOCTOR SALAZAR.

>> THANK YOU I WANT TO THANK ALL FIVE CANDIDATES FOR APPLYING AND FOR BEING HONEST AND OPEN WITH US.

JUST TO GIVE IN TERMS OF MY QUESTION WE WENT THROUGH SOME CHALLENGING TIMES AND AS A BOARD MOVING FORWARD WE HAVE CHALLENGES WITH ENROLLMENT IN DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE PLAGUING ALL COMMUNITY COLLEGES NOT JUST OURS AND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THAT CAN WORK TOGETHER WITH US AS A BOARD AND DOCTOR FIERRO IN FIGURING OUT HOW THE PATHWAY IS NOT CLEAR WERE TRYING TO FIND THIS PATHWAY TO BETTER SERVE OUR STUDENTS AND SEE WHAT WORKS AND DOESN'T WORK AND REALLY CREATE A NEW NORM SO THAT WAS THE JUST BEHIND MY QUESTION IN HER STUDENTS FACE VERY UNIQUE CHALLENGES DURING COVID AND THEIR FACING UNIQUE CHALLENGES NOW AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOMEONE WHO COULD REALLY HELP BRIDGE THAT GAP AND REALLY MOVE FORWARD AS A KIND OF FIGURE THINGS OUT TOGETHER BECAUSE I DON'T THINK WE HAVE THE ANSWERS YET AND WERE TRYING TO FIGURE THINGS OUT AND MOVE THIS IN A DIRECTION WHERE WE CAN ONLY IMPROVE AND DOCTOR FIERRO HAS DONE A GREAT JOB WITH THE CADET NUMBERS IT ENROLLMENT IN LOOKING AT COMPLETION RATES AND I THINK THAT SOMETHING THAT UNITES US AS REALLY MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE THRIVING, THEY ARE COMPLETING, LEAVING AS SOON AS THEY CANNOT BE NEAR SIX YEARS THIS IS A TWO-YEAR COLLEGE SOMETHING THAT WE'VE BEEN FIGHTING WITH IS THE CHALLENGES OF GETTING THE STUDENTS OUT QUICKLY, EFFICIENTLY SO WE'RE JUST TRYING TO FIGURE THINGS OUT, THAT WAS KIND OF MY THING COVID BROUGHT A UNIQUE SET OF CHALLENGES NOW AND I JUST WANTED TO SEE WHERE EVERYONE STOOD IN TERMS OF THAT.

BUT I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING AND BEING WITH US TODAY.

>> TRUSTEE.

>> FIRST OF ALL I NEED TO APOLOGIZE FOR NOT BEING HERE BUT I DID HEAR IN EVERYBODY'S INTERVIEWS ON ZOOM OFTEN ON.

HAD A FAMILY MEDICAL EMERGENCY THAT I BEEN URGENT CARE SINCE 3:15 P.M.

I'M GLAD I'M HERE TO BE HERE FOR THE DISCUSSION.

FIRST OF ALL I JUST WANTED TO ECHO THANK YOU IN GRATITUDE FOR EVERYBODY FOR APPLYING.

IT TAKES A LOT OF COURAGE TO PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE IN A PUBLIC COLLECTED OFFICIAL ROLE SO FIRST OF ALL WANTED TO CONGRATULATE AND THANK YOU AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT BECAUSE TAKING THAT FIRST STEP IS REALLY, REALLY TOUGH.

AND I THINK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU SOMETHING VERY DIFFERENT I FELT TO OUR BOARD AND KIND OF TO ECHO WHAT MY COLLEAGUES HAVE SAID WE DEFINITELY HAVE A CHALLENGING TIME WITH OUR ENROLLMENT AND WITH OUR STUDENTS AND WHAT THEY'RE COMING HERE TO CERRITOS COLLEGE IN COMING HERE FOR VARIOUS REASONS AND HOW WE CAN SUPPORT ALL OF THEM TO COMPLETE THE DEGREE GRADUATE, TRANSFER WHATEVER THEIR GOAL IS.

I THINK THE ONE THING, PROBABLY WHY THE QUESTION I ASK I APPRECIATE AND RESPECT THE DIVERSITY OF OPINIONS TO I THINK A BOARD SUCH AS OURS IS STRONGER BECAUSE WE HAVE

[01:45:01]

DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND WE MENTIONED IT BEFORE WE DON'T ALWAYS AGREE UPON BUT I THINK THAT MAKES BETTER POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS.

AGAIN I JUST WANTED TO CONGRATULATE YOU, THANK YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TO THIS NEXT PART OF THE DISCUSSION.

WE HAVE SOME TRACK HISTORY WE DID GET A PICKER PRESIDENT CODY BIRKEY ALL I THINK IT'S BEEN A TREMENDOUS ASSET WE HAD REALLY GOOD APPLICANTS AND I THINK WE PICK THE BEST AND I THINK WE HAVE A TRACK HISTORY AND WILL PICK THE BEST CANDIDATE THEY CAN JOIN OUR TEAM AND REALLY ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF OUR STUDENTS ENTER COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN THE RESIDENCE OF EVERYBODY WE SERVE IN THE DISTRICT, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE PEREZ.

WE'VE ALL SPOKEN EXCEPT FOR STUDENT TRUSTEE AND DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO OFFER ANYTHING ELSE.

>> THANK YOU FOR PUTTING ME ON THE SPOT AGAIN.

>> I JUST WANT TO GIVE A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR CANDIDATES I THINK THEY'RE ALL REALLY, REALLY GREAT.

I THINK SOME OF THE REASONING BEHIND MY QUESTION SO WE COULD GET A LITTLE BIT OF INSIGHT AS TO HOW YOUR DECISION-MAKING AS A TRUSTEE WOULD IMPACT STUDENTS IN A MEANINGFUL AND PURPOSEFUL WAY AND I THINK THAT IS DONE PRIMARILY BY COLLABORATING WITH THE STUDENTS, TALKING WITH THE STUDENTS, INTERACTING WITH THEM IN A WAY WHERE YOU'RE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS THAT WOULD ESSENTIALLY HELP AT THE STUDENTS IN THE LONG RUN AND ALLOW THEM TO COMPLETE THEIR EDUCATIONAL GOALS.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT.

>> ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE WE MOVED TO ANY MOTIONS?

>> SEEING NONE, DO WE HAVE ANY MOTIONS ON THE FLOOR REGARDING A NOMINATION?

>> AND I ASK YOU THE PROCESS I CANNOT REMEMBER.

>> A REMINDER IT'LL TAKE FOUR VOTES THE MAJORITY OF THE PRESENCE FOUR VOTES MINIMUM.

IN THE NOMINATION WILL BE, THE TRUSTEE WILL NOMINATE ONE OF THE CANDIDATES IT WILL REQUIRE A SECOND TO CONDUCT A VOTE IF THERE IS NO SECOND THE MOTION WILL FAIL AND THEY WILL OPEN FOR ANOTHER NOMINATION IF YOU DON'T REACH FOR POSITIVE VOTES THE MOTION AGAIN WILL FAIL AND WE WILL PROCEED WITH A DIFFERENT NOMINATION.

>> OKAY.

>> DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO EVERYBODY? OKAY.

DO WE HAVE FURTHER ADO? DO WE HAVE ANY MOTION, WE CAN DISCUSS THE MOTION.

>> ALL GO AHEAD AND YOU GUYS DECIDE.

>> I NOMINATE -- ONLY BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN AT DOWNEY UNIFIED.

I HAVE SEEN HIS WORK THERE THAT HE IS DONE AT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AS THEIR TRUSTEE IF YOU WANT TO CALL THEM THAT WERE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER.

ALSO HE COMES WITH AN EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH -- HE HAS A LOT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONNECTIONS.

HOPEFULLY CAN HELP US MOVE FORWARD AND COMING OUT OF THIS PANDEMIC.

I'M NOT SURE WHETHER HE WILL RUN AGAIN BECAUSE IT WILL DEPEND AND MORE THAN LIKELY HE WILL NOT AND I REALIZE THAT BUT THEN IT GOES TO THE VOTERS.

THEN I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME OF THESE OTHER CANDIDATES WERE EXCELLENT AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM RUN FOR THE FULL SEAT AND HAVE THE VOTERS VOTE FOR YOU.

THAT'S MY CHOICE, ONLY BECAUSE I SEE HIM BRINGING THESE NEXT TWO YEARS THINGS THAT MAYBE THE COLLEGE WOULD NEED FOR AT LEAST THESE TWO YEARS.

>> OKAY.

>> DO WE HAVE A SECOND?

>> SECOND.

>> I WILL SECOND THAT.

>> TO BE HAVE ANY DISCUSSION?

>> IF I MAY, ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE HAVE DISTRICTS IS THAT WE HAVE OUR TRUSTEES THE LIAISONS TO OUR COMMUNITY, WE ARE TRUSTEES AT LARGE FOR AS LARGE A DISTRICT AS CERRITOS COLLEGE IT BECOMES NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO TRULY REPRESENT THE UNIQUE ASPECTS OF OUR DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES, PRIOR TO MYSELF THERE WAS ONLY ONE OTHER LA MIRADA TRUSTEE AND THAT WAS KATIE NORDEN BACK IN THE

[01:50:05]

MID-80S.

THAT IS NOT TO WHO HAS WHAT PLACE AND WHERE BUT I THINK THE REASON WE HAVE DISTRICTS IN WHITE PEOPLE LIKE THE FACT THAT WE HAVE DISTRICTS ESPECIALLY AT A COLLEGE LEVEL EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY HAVE ONE AREA IS SO THOSE TRUSTEES ARE MUCH MORE IN TUNE WITH THEIR COMMUNITY AND KNOW NOT ONLY WHERE TO GO BUT HOW TO REPRESENT THAT BOTH THE COLLEGE TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE COMMUNITY TO THE COLLEGE.

I THINK GIVEN MR. LAPLANTE'S HISTORY IN DOWNEY WHICH IS GOING TO BE AND STILL IS THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE DISTRICT THAT IS GOING TO BE APPOINTED FOR, WE ARE APPOINTING TO THE DISTRICT THAT THE TRUSTEE VACATED WHICH SPANS FROM SOUTHGATE TO NORWALK AND NOT THE CURRENT DISTRICTS THAT WE ADOPTED WHICH IS MOSTLY SOUTHERN DOWNEY IMPORTANCE OF SOUTHGATE.

EITHER WAY I WANT TO LOOK FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS THOSE COMMUNITY ROOTS AND IS EITHER GROWN-UP IN OR WELL-CONNECTED IN THIS COMMUNITY I THINK GIVEN THIS IS BEEN A CARETAKER AS A COUNCILMAN AND POSSIBLY LEAVE IT FOR THE OTHER CANDIDATES OF CONTINUING THE LEGACY.

A SOUTHERN DOWNEY AND THE REST OF CERRITOS COLLEGE PASSIONATE, CLEARHEADED, I THINK, I DON'T HAVE A RESERVATION BUT I WILL SAY I DO FEEL LIKE THERE IS ONE OTHER CANDIDATE THAT REALLY STANDS OUT TO ME WHICH IS HARD TO DO AMONGST THIS GROUP.

SO I'M GOING TO PROBABLY RESERVE MY VOTE ON THAT.

I JUST WANT TO VOICE OUT.

ANY OTHER DISCUSSION BEFORE WE MOVE TO A ROLL CALL VOTE?

>> JUST TO CLARIFY THE PROCESS, WE ARE VOTING ON THIS CANDIDATE AND WE CAN'T TAKE A SUBSTITUTE MOTION ON THE ORIGINAL MOTION, CORRECT?

>> IF IT DOESN'T RECEIVE FOUR VOTES THEN WE GO BACK TO A NEW MOTION, DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

>> OKAY.

>> ROLL CALL VOTE.

>> STUDENT TRUSTEE LEDESMA.

>> TRUSTEE BIRKEY KNOWS.

>> TRUSTEE LOUIS.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE LIU.

>> NO.

>> TRUSTEE SALAZAR.

>> NO.

>> MOTION FAIL.

>> OKAY, EVERYBODY IS STILL IN IS BASICALLY WHAT THAT MEANS.

DO WE HAVE ANY OTHER MOTIONS? ON THE FLOOR?

>> I MOTION? I'M GOING TO HAVE A MOTION TO NOMINATE DAWN GREEN.

>> SECOND.

>> TO BE HAVE ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS ITEM?

>> ALL TAKE A MOMENT.

I FELT LIKE THIS CANDIDATE COMBINED THE LEVEL OF EXECUTIVE THINKING AND PASSION THAT WE REQUIRE.

I PARTICULARLY ENJOYED HOW WELL THIS CANDIDATE COMPORTED HERSELF DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS.

I FELT LIKE HER ANSWERS WERE CLEAR AND FOCUSED.

I BELIEVE THAT SHE BROUGHT A PERSPECTIVE THAT IT WAS UNIQUE AND DESPITE, FROM

[01:55:03]

WHAT I UNDERSTAND NOT BE FROM AN IMMIGRANT BACKGROUND I FELT LIKE SHE HAD A VERY CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO INCLUDE, BE INCLUSIVE AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO DEAL WITH OUR PARTICULAR POPULATION THAT THIS COLLEGE SERVES AND THAT SHE DEMONSTRATED THE LEVEL OF SERVANT THAT WE REQUIRE AND THAT IS NOT AT ALL TO SAY THAT THE OTHER CANDIDATES DID NOT, QUITE TO THE CONTRARY BUT I FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS PARTICULARLY COMPELLING WITH THIS CANDIDATE.

>> ANY OTHER DISCUSSION?

>> THANK YOU, I WILL GIVE MY 2 CENTS ON THIS MOTION.

I THINK WHAT TRUSTEE BIRKEY'S QUESTION WAS I AGREED WITH THE LOTS.

I DO THINK WE ARE A VERY WELL-ROUNDED BOARD, WE ALL CONTRIBUTE VERY UNIQUELY TO THIS BOARD AND I THOUGHT WE WERE PRETTY COMPLETE UNTIL HE HEARD MISCREANTS SPEAK AND REALLY BRING THE EDUCATOR, ADMINISTRATOR ASIDE FROM DOCTOR SHIROV AND HAVING THAT LOOKING AT THAT POLICY AND THE FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND OPPORTUNITIES AND PATHWAYS FOR STUDENT, I SAID WHILE.

I THOUGHT WE COULD REALLY BENEFIT FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE ON THIS BOARD AND I THINK DESPITE US BEING VERY WELL-ROUNDED THAT IS A PIECE THAT I THINK WOULD GO GREAT IN THESE TIMES WE WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW DO WE CREATE MORE PATHWAYS FOR THESE CHILDREN AND ESPECIALLY IF SHE BRINGS, I KNOW IT'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUT LOOKING AT THE K-12 COMPONENT AND BRIDGING THAT WITH US AND TEACHING IN THE COMMUNITY.

LYNWOOD MIGHT NOT BE IN OUR DISTRICT BUT I AM SURE WE ARE RECEIVING STUDENTS FROM THE AREA SO I THOUGHT TO ME THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT STOOD OUT TO ME AND I THINK LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE WERE DEALING WITH THESE TRYING TIMES, THOSE SKILLS WILL DO AS WELL AS WE MOVE FORWARD AND CONTINUE TO CREATE THESE PATHWAYS FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FACILITATE THEM.

>> I APPRECIATE THAT.

I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I LEFT OUT THAT I THINK IS IMPORTANT TO MENTION IS PARTICULARLY WELL-QUALIFIED.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS? SO WE HAVE A MOTION, A SECOND AND DISCUSSION, NO FURTHER DISCUSSION.

OKAY, WE WILL MOVE TO A ROLL CALL VOTE.

>> STUDENT TRUSTEE TRAN LEDESMA.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE LOUIS.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE LIU.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE PACHECO.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE SALAZAR.

>> AYE THE MOTION PASSES.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

>> TRUSTEE GREEN, WOULD YOU LIKE TO STEP UP TO THE PODIUM.

>> I APOLOGIZE, I'M A LITTLE EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW BUT I THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BELIEVING IN ME AND WANTING ME TO BE A PART OF THE BOARD FOR OUR AWARD-WINNING CERRITOS COLLEGE.

AS I STATED I AM AS SERVANT LEADER AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING OUR SCHOOL IN THE BOARD AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE COMMUNITY.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT TRUST.

I TRULY APPRECIATE IT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I WOULD ALL LIKE TO THINK PUBLICLY TO OUR CANDIDATES, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN CERRITOS COLLEGE AND OF COURSE MANY OF YOU FROM THE COMMUNITY LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUE TO COLLABORATE WITH ALL OF YOU, WELCOME TRUSTEE GREEN, IT'S GREAT TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD.

>> I WON'T BELABOR THIS TOO MUCH BUT I ALSO WANT TO THINK THE OTHER FOUR CANDIDATES.

I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW BUT THE VERY FACT THAT HE WENT THROUGH HIS PRESS YOU'RE ALREADY BY THE FACT TO PART OF THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS INSTITUTION AND KINDA PERMANENTLY REGARDED AS LEADERS BY EXTENSION OF THE COLLEGE WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU SHARPENING US TO THIS PROCESS AND WE ARE BENEFITED EXTRAORDINARILY BY YOUR CAPABILITIES AND DEDICATION TO THE COLLEGE INTERCOMMUNITY, THANK YOU.

WITH THAT WE WILL MOVE TOWARD FAVORITE PART OF THE EVENING OR CONSENTS

CALENDAR.

>> OF SEVERAL ITEMS I WOULD LIKE TO PULL, SORRY.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO PULL ITEM 5.03, 5.07, 5.08 AND 5.11.

>> OKAY GIVE ME ONE SECOND TO GET MY NOTES IN ORDER.

>> 5.03, 5.017, EIGHT, 11.

>> WILL MOVE THE CONSENT CALENDAR WITH THOSE.

>> DO WE HAVE A SECOND?

>> YES.

>> SECOND.

>> ROLL CALL VOTE.

>> STUDENT TRUSTEE TRAN TRUSTEE LOUIS.

>> TRUSTEE LIU.

>> TRUSTEE PEREZ, TRUSTEE SALAZAR.

>> THE MOTION PASSES.

>> THANK YOU, NOW 5.03, 2022 TWOMAC 2023 RESOURCE ALLOCATION IN VINTAGE FUNDS.

>> MY QUESTION HAD A REALLY HARD TIME FOLLOWING THAT CHART, WHAT EXACTLY IS THE

[5.03 POSTPONED TO NOVEMBER 16: 2022-2023 Resource Allocation and Vintage Funds]

VINTAGE FUNDS THAT ARE BEING USED, IS EVERYTHING ON THIS CHART ALL VINTAGE, I WAS VERY CONFUSED HOW TO READ THAT.

>> VICE PRESIDENT.

>> ACTUALLY WHEN I'M TAKING A LOOK AT THAT, I THINK THE VINTAGE EXPENDITURES ON THE SHE IS ACTUALLY MISSING IT'S ONLY TWO PAGES INITIAL BEFORE PAGES.

THE ONLY PAGES THAT YOU ACTUALLY SEE THEIR REPRESENTS UNRESTRICTED GENERAL FUND WHICH IS THE FIRST PAGE OF THE SECOND PAGE REPRESENTS THE ALLOCATION ALL OF THESE WERE INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET BUT DURING THE BUDGET PRESENTATION WE MISSED OUTPUTTING THE RESOURCE ALLOCATION IN VINTAGE FUNDS SO WHAT YOU SEE BEFORE YOU IS A DETAILED OF HER ANNUAL PLANNING PROCESS AND WHAT WAS APPROVED UNDER THE RESOURCE ALLOCATION FOR THE UNRESTRICTED GENERAL FUND WHICH IS THE FIRST PAGE, THE SECOND PAGE WHAT WE APPROVED UNDER THE FUNDING BUT WHAT IS MISSING IS THE DETAILS FOR THE CAPITAL OUTLAY AND VINTAGE.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO IF POSSIBLE TO MOVE FORWARD THE FIRST TWO ITEMS AND THEN WE WOULD BRING BACK THE SAME REQUEST FOR THE CAPITAL OUTLAY IN THE VINTAGE.

>> DO YOU NEED THIS NOW OR CAN WE LUMP THEM ON THE NEXT ONE.

>> WE CAN LUMP THE ITEMS ON IT.

>> IF WE WANT TO PULL THE ENTIRE ITEM AND RESUBMIT IT WITH ALL FOUR PAGES, WE

[02:05:06]

COULD DO THAT AS WELL BUT IS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THE ACTUAL BUDGET ITSELF BUT AS PART OF OUR PRACTICE WE ALWAYS PROVIDE IT SEPARATELY BECAUSE AS PART OF THE PLANNING RESOURCE ALLOCATION IT WAS EXCLUDED AS PART OF THE PACKAGE APPROVED BY THE BOARD LAST MEETING.

>> WASN'T NUMERICALLY EXCLUDED OR WAS EXCLUDED AS A PARTICULAR BREAKDOWN.

>> WAS EXCLUDED THE DOCUMENT SHOULD'VE BEEN PART OF ALL THE ATTACHMENTS BUT IT WASN'T PART OF ANY OF THE ATTACHMENTS.

I WANTED TO BRING IT FORWARD TO SHOW WHAT WAS IN BUDGET FOR THE RESOURCE ALLOCATION AND ALSO AS PART OF OUR ANNUAL PROCESS BY POLICY WERE ALSO SUPPOSED TO SPECIFY EVERY YEAR WHAT IS ALLOCATED TO VINTAGE AND PARTICULARLY BUT AS I SEE NOW WE ARE MISSING THAT PAGE SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO BRING THAT BACK AT THE NEXT MEETING.

>> OKAY.

>> TRUSTEE PEREZ AND TRUSTEE BIRKEY, WHAT I WILL RECOMMEND IS TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE ITEM SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO APPROVE EVERYTHING AT ONCE RATHER THAN TWO PIECES INSIDE IS OKAY WITH YOU.

>> SOME OF THE ITEM TO THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.

>> CORRECT.

>> WE HAVE A SECOND TO POSTPONE.

>> MOVE TO POSTPONE THE SECOND.

>> ROLL CALL VOTE.

>> WE STILL HAVE TO DO IT.

>> NO, NOT ANYMORE, WE ARE ALL HERE.

>> AND WE STOP DOING THE OTHER THING.

OKAY, IT'S BEEN SO LONG SINCE WE HAVE TO DO THEM.

>> ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE, ALTHOUGH SUPPOSED, THE MOTION PASSES.

ITEM FIVE-POINT 07 MASTER AGREEMENT WITH LOZANO SMITH LLP FOR PROFESSIONAL LEGAL

[5.07 Master Agreement with Lozano Smith, LLP for Professional Legal Services]

SERVICES.

TRUSTEE PEREZ.

>> DO WE ISSUE AN RFP FOR LEGAL SERVICES OR ARE THEY BEING ADDED BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS REPLACING SOMEBODY IF WE HAD A COMPOSITION AND THIS IS THE BEST ONE OR WHAT, I DID NOT KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS RECOMMENDATION.

>> VICE PRESIDENT PLEASE.

>> THE FIRM IS BEING ADDED TO SUPPORT THE FUNCTIONS OF HR, ULTIMATELY WE HAVE TWO OTHER FIRMS ON THE BENCH WHICH WERE COUSIN O'CONNOR IN DDM AND REVIEW OF THE CONTRACTS UPON MY APPOINTMENT AND THE POSITION I OBSERVED THE RATES WERE SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE SERVICES OF LOZANO SMITH WAS UNSURE WHICH GIVE YOU A GREATER POOL OF SERVICES VERSUS SOME OF THE WORK FROM DDM THAT IS RESTRICTED TO TITLE IX INVESTIGATION I NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE SUPPORT AND A BROADER BASE TO DO HR SERVICE INVESTIGATION AND EMPLOYEE MISCONDUCT NOT JUST TITLE IX AND THAT OF CLOSING BASED ON THE REVIEW THAT I CONDUCTED ON THE FIRM SEEMS TO HAVE OTHER AREAS OF EXPERTISE AND NOT SO MUCH THE AREAS THAT I WANTED WERE SPECIFIC TO EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS IN THE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION.

ULTIMATELY I WANT TO REPLACE THE TWO ONCE THERE TERM EXPIRES THE SPRING USE LOZANO SMITH AND POSSIBLY ONE MORE FIRM THAT WILL SPECIALIZE IN EEO AND OTHER WORK THAT IS RELATED SPECIFICALLY TO HR.

>> DO WE KNOW THEIR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY IS?

>> LOZANO SMITH? IT'S AN EXTENSIVE COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION, THEY DO HAVE A STREAM THAT EMPHASIZES ON EEO.

OBVIOUSLY LIBRA CASSIDY WHITMORE IS THE STANDARD IN THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND THAT ARENA BUT LOZANO SMITH ALSO HAS AN EXTENSIVE REPUTATION IN WORKING WITH HR, EEO, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION.

>> A POINT OF CLARIFICATION, THESE ARE CONTRACTS THAT ARE ONLY BILLED IF AND WHEN WE USE THE SERVICES, WE DON'T KEEP ANY FIRMS ON MAINTAINERS, THEREFORE WE DON'T GET BILLED IF WE DON'T USE THE SPECIFIC SERVICES.

>> ALRIGHT.

>> THIS IS ONLY FOR SERVICES RENDERED, IT IS NOT THAT WE ARE RETAINING THE FIRM? MY UNDERSTANDING.

>> WE ARE NOT ENTERTAINING THE RETAINER IS OUR ABILITY OF HIRING THEM AS NEEDED THAT HOURLY RATES, USUALLY WHEN WE DO THESE ARRANGEMENTS, WE GET A LOWER RATE SINCE THEY BECOME PART OF OUR POOL BUT NOT ON RETAINER.

>> SO WE HAVE NO ONE ON RETAINER SO BASICALLY ALL WE DO IS SELECT THE FIRM THAT

[02:10:04]

WILL GIVE US A SERVICE THAT WE NEED?

>> CORRECT AND THEN WE GIVE THEM A PHONE CALL WHEN SOMETHING COMES UP.

>> YOU.

>> ALRIGHT.

>> SO MOVED.

>> DO WE HAVE A SECOND?

>> SECOND.

>> ALL IN FAVOR.

>> AYE.

>> ALL OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES.

ITEM 5.08 APPROVAL OF CONTRACT WITH KYE SERVICES LLC, TRUSTEE PEREZ.

[5.08 Approval of Contract with KYA Services LLC]

>> THANK YOU THIS IS FOR THE POOL DECK ISN'T THAT VERY RECENT, I'M JUST KINDA CURIOUS WHAT HAPPENED AND WE HAVE ANY SORT OF PROTECTION, INSURANCE, WHATEVER THE RIGHT WORD IS.

>> ACTUALLY THE POOL HAS AGED OVERTIME AND IS ACTUALLY, NOT ACTUALLY RECENT SO IT'S BEEN PUSHING 10 YEARS AT LEAST, NOW.

SO THIS IS PART OF OUR DEFERRED MAINTENANCE PLAN THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS ON THAT SO WE'VE ACTUALLY BEEN WORKING SPECIFICALLY IN AQUATICS FOR SOME TIME ONE OF THE MAJOR ITEMS WE DID WAS REPLACING A MASSIVE POOL PUMP IN THERE THAT FAILED SO THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST ELEMENT OF THE PROJECT, NOW WE ARE MOVING CORROSION ON THE OUTER EDGES OF THE POOL DECK THAT HAS BEEN PIECES OF CONCRETE AND DETERIORATING AND ON THAT SO THIS CONTRACT IS PROVIDING REPAIRS TO THAT AND THIS IS UNDER THE STATE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DOLLARS THAT WE ARE RECEIVING.

WE ACTUALLY JUST SUBMITTED A PLAN TO THE STATE FOR $13 MILLION WITH APPROVED ESTATE FUNDING DEFERRED MAINTENANCE PLANS, WE WILL BE BRINGING FORWARD OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT DEFERRED MAINTENANCE PROJECTS WILL BE ADDRESSING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CAMPUS, THIS IS JUST ONE ELEMENT OF IT AND THIS IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF GETTING REPAIRS ON THAT BUT WE'VE BEEN WORKING DILIGENTLY ON SEVERAL PROJECTS ON IT.

BUT I WOULD BE HAPPY TO ADDRESS ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.

>> ALSO A POINT OF CLARIFICATION, SOME OF THE FACILITIES THAT WE BUILT WITH THE FIRST ONE, THEY ALREADY REACHED A ROTATION TIME FOR DEFERRED MAINTENANCE, AND THE POOL DECK AND EVERYTHING IS ONE OF THOSE FIRST ITEMS IN 2002, ONE, 2004.

SOME OF THE PARTICULAR LEADED DIRT HE ENTERED INTO THE REPLACEMENT PIECE AND AS I SAID SIMPLY PUTTING THEM INTO THE MAINTENANCE, THEY LOOK GREAT THEY HAVE BEEN WELL-KEPT BUT SOME OF THIS IS STARTING TO REQUIRE MAINTENANCE.

>> THAT BRINGS UP ANOTHER QUESTION, THESE ARE SEPARATE, WAS BUILT WITH BOND FUNDS BUT WERE MAINTAINING IT WITH SEPARATE FUNDS, RIGHT?

>> THAT IS CORRECT WE ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET STATE-FUNDED SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE DOLLARS SO WERE ACTUALLY UTILIZING THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED THROUGH THE STATE THROUGH THE DEFERRED MAINTENANCE MONIES THAT WE RECEIVED.

>> I WILL MOVE THE ITEM.

>> WE HAVE A MOTION.

>> WE HAVE A SECOND.

>> SECOND.

>> ALL IN FAVOR, SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES.

[5.11 Consideration of Approval of Updated Job Descriptions for DEIA Purposes]

ITEM 5.11, CONSIDERATION FOR APPROVAL OF UPDATED JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR DEIA PURPOSES.

>> PRESIDENT GUTIERREZ.

>> I HAVE TO PULL IT BECAUSE IT'S MY ROLE IN DOCTOR FIERRO'S ROLE AS DEIA LEADERS I WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO PLEASE HIGHLIGHT WHAT THE CHANGES ARE AND HOW WE ARE MAKING THESE JOB DESCRIPTIONS MORE INCLUSIVE, THANK YOU.

IT WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE A PART OF MY DEIA REPORT OUT FOR A LITTLE LATER BUT WE WILL CUT THAT TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE DOING AS PART OF THE DIVERSITY EQUITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE IS TO GO THROUGH AS MANY JOB CLASSIFICATIONS THAT WE CAN.

WE DO HAVE AN INTEREST COMMUNITY FROM CSEA TO LOOK AT ALL THE JOB DESCRIPTIONS BUT THAT WILL BE SLIGHTLY LINKED TO YOUR PROCESS SO WHAT WE ARE DOING WITH NON- CSEA RELATED CLASSIFICATIONS AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE OR EXAMPLE THESE ARE MANAGEMENT

[02:15:01]

POSITIONS.

ANYTHING WITHIN OUR PURVIEW, CONFIDENTIAL, CONTRACT MANAGEMENT.

ANYTHING THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY UPDATE WHILE THE POSITION IS VACANT WERE IN RECRUITMENT WERE BRINGING FORTH THE PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS.

FOR EXAMPLE SOME OF OUR JOB DESCRIPTIONS WILL ACTUALLY REQUIRE MANUAL FINGER DEXTERITY TO TYPE, KEYBOARD AND OPERATE MOUSE OR OPERATE A COMPUTER OR OTHER EQUIPMENT THERE IS AN INSINUATION THAT I HAVE TO USE MY FINGERS.

IF I HAVE CEREAL BOWL POLICY AND I KNEW SOMETHING WITH VOICE TEXT RECOGNITION THEN I'M ABLE TO USE SOME FORM OF ACCOMMODATION TO BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE THE SAME JOB ABILITY AND BE COMPETITIVE LIKE ANYONE ELSE REMOVING A BARRIER.

WE ARE LOOKING AT THOSE AS WE ARE ABLE TO ADDRESS ACCESSIBILITY AS PART OF OUR INITIATIVES.

>> WONDERFUL, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EXPLANATION.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? GREAT.

MOTION.

>> SECOND.

>> SECOND.

>> ALL IN FAVOR, SAY AYE.

>> ALL OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES.

OKAY WITH THAT WE NOW, MOVE TO OUR INFORMATION ITEM.

[6.01 College Coordinating Committee Minutes: August 29, 2022. September 12, 2022 and September 26, 2022]

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL RECEIVE AND FILE THE FOLLOWING COLLEGE COORDINATING MINUTES AUGUST 29, 2022 SEPTEMBER 12, 2022, SEPTEMBER 26, 2022.

DO WE NEED TO MOTION THIS, WE ARE RECEIVING AND FILING.

ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS.

[7.01 Consideration of Adoption of Resolution No. 22-1019B in Recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month]

CONSIDERATION FOR ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION 221019B IN RECOGNITION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH.

DO WE HAVE ANY PRESENTATION ON THIS ITEM?

>> DOES THE RESOLUTION BUT OF COURSE WE HAVE THIS AND WE OBVIOUSLY RECOGNIZE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS AND OBVIOUSLY COMPLETELY OPPOSE ANY TYPE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VIGOROUSLY, IT IS A RECOMMENDATION THAT WE CONTINUE WITH THE SUPPORT AND APPROVE THESE RESOLUTIONS.

I CAN GO AHEAD AND READ THE RESOLUTION.

>> SO MOVED.

>> I THINK WE ALL HAD A CHANCE TO READ IT AND I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANY DISPUTE.

DO WE HAVE A MOTION?

>> A MOTION FROM TRUSTEE PEREZ, SECOND.

>> SECOND.

>> SECOND FROM DOCTOR SALAZAR.

ALL IN FAVOR, SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL OPPOSE? MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

ITEM 7 .

02 FIRST READING OF A NEW PROPOSED BOARD POLICY 7240 ON CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEES,

[7.02 First Reading: New Proposed Board Policy 7240 - Confidential Employees]

DOCTOR GUTIERREZ WOULD YOU LIKE TO REPORT ON THIS ITEM.

>> I WAS WAITING FOR THE POLICY TO BE UPDATED BUT I GUESS WE DON'T DO THAT.

>> LET THE RECORD SHOW THAT CHERYL CONTRIBUTED A EYETO THIS.

LIKE AN EVIL EYE TO DOCTOR FIERRO.

>> I'M JUST GOING TO STAY HERE BECAUSE THE NEXT ONE IS MINE AS WELL.

WHAT WE ARE DOING WE ARE CURRENTLY ALIGNING ALL OF OUR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH C CLC AND I FULLY RECOGNIZE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL THAT ARE ALREADY UNDER CHAPTER SEVEN IN VARIOUS OTHER PLACES IN OUR BOARD POLICY AREA.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME THAT ARE MISSING.

AMONG THEM YOU HAVE AN ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE FOR CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEES BUT WE WERE MISSING THE BOARD CALLED LESSEE THAT CODIFIES THE GOVERNMENT CODE DEFINITION REGARDING THE ROLE OF A CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE WHICH ASSIST MANAGEMENT IN EMPLOYER AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIPS.

WE'RE TAKING THE LEGALLY REQUIRED POLICY WHICH WAS MISSING IN ORDER TO BRING THE ENTIRE SERIES THE BDP AND THE AP FULL-CIRCLE.

>> OKAY.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT.

SO THAT IS THE FIRST READING, ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT?

>> ALRIGHT, SEE NONE ITEM 7 .

[7.03 First Reading: New Proposed Board Policy 7280 - Telecommuting/Remote Work]

03 ALSO OUR FIRST READING A NEW PROPOSED POLICY 7280 TELECOMMUTING.

>> THIS POLICY IS ACTUALLY UNDER RECOMMENDATION TO YOU IN ORDER TO ADDRESS SEVERAL AREAS POST PANDEMIC.

AMONG THEM SERVING AS A RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION TOOL WHICH WILL HAVE MULTIPLE NOTWITHSTANDING THE FACT THAT WE DID GET THROUGH PANDEMIC WHERE WE ACTUALLY

[02:20:02]

OPERATED IN A TELECOMMUTE ENVIRONMENT REMOTE WORK STATUS FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS SO WE HAVE RECOGNIZE THAT AS PART OF OUR WORKING CONDITIONS THAT WE DO HAVE A SHIFT IN MINDSET AND WORK EXPECTATION.

IT ADDRESSES SPACING ISSUES, DIVERSITY EQUITY AND INCLUSION AND WE JUST FELT THAT IT WAS TIME TO BRING FORTH THE POLICY WHICH IS DISCRETIONARY AND SUBJECT TO FURTHER REVIEW BY YOU AS WELL AS THE DISCRETION OF HER COLLEGE PRESIDENT.

THERE WILL BE AN ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE THAT IS CURRENTLY BEING WORKED ON WITH THE TASK FORCE WHICH DID APPROVE THE POLICY AND BROUGHT IT FORWARD IN UNISON AND WE ARE IDENTIFYING THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF OUR WORKING CONDITIONS AS A WHOLE AND THEN BEING ABLE TO QUANTIFY THAT ALL THEIR WORK AGREEMENT AND OTHER SUPPLEMENTAL ACCEPTABLE USE IN ADDITION TO PRODUCTIVITY CONCERNS AND EVALUATIONS WHICH ULTIMATELY IMPACT THE BARGAINING.

REALLY CANNOT POLICY, ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE AND ULTIMATELY ANY IMPACT UNDER BARGAINING CONDITION WHICH WE HOPE MAY NOT BE NECESSARY BUT WE FULLY RECOGNIZE THAT THAT IS A STANDARD PROCESS WHEN ADOPTING A POLICY AND PROCEDURE.

>> OKAY THANK YOU, DOCTOR PERIOD ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS ITEM?

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR PERIOD I DEFINITELY SEE SOME BENEFITS TO THIS POLICY, I'M GLAD YOU BRING IT INTO THE BOARD, I KNOW WE NORMALLY DON'T THE BOY DOESN'T APPROVE A PIECE THAT'S NOT PART OF OUR ROLE BUT I'D BE REALLY INTERESTED ON AT LEAST GIVING THE FEEDBACK ON THE AP.

I JUST WILL MAKE SURE, I DON'T KNOW THE RIGHT WORDS, JUST MAKING SURE THIS IS ASSESSABLE TO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES WORK AT WORK BECAUSE THERE'S NOT A LOT OF DEFINITION HERE, I UNDERSTAND IT'S A POLICY THAT'S WHEN REALLY INTERESTED IN THE PROCEDURE COMING BACK AS AN FYI FOR US.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT AND WE ADOPTED A STEP IN OUR PROCESS WHICH WE BRING THE PROCEDURES TO THE BOARD FOR FEEDBACK AND WE WILL DO THE SAME WITH THIS SO WE WILL ADD IT FOR A FIRST AND THE SECOND READING SO WE STARTED A WHILE BACK SO YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK.

ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS AS WE'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATION WITH DOCTOR GUTIERREZ, AS YOU SAID ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES THAT ARE ASSESSABLE TO A CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES AND WE ARE PREPARED FOR THAT AS WELL BECAUSE SOME OF THESE WILL REQUIRE ACCOMMODATIONS AS WE GO THROUGH IN OUR THINKING PROCESS WERE STARTING TO FIND OUT THERE ARE SOME PIECES THAT NEED TO BE COVERED, THE IDEAS TO ENSURE THIS IS A POLICY AND PROCEDURE THAT ARE USEFUL FOR OUR EMPLOYEES THAT PROVIDE A LITTLE FLEXIBILITY WITHOUT COMPROMISING SERVICES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WE'LL BE SURE TO ADAPT TO THE AGENDA, GATHER FEEDBACK AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE COMMITTEE.

>> I APPRECIATE THAT.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS INTERESTING COMING OUT OF COVID.

AS I TALKED TO VARIOUS PROFESSIONALS IN VARIOUS SPACES ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY THERE SEEMS TO BE WE HAVE A PENDULUM SWING BACK AND FORTH, RIGHT.

FIRST IT WAS WE COULD DO EVERYTHING REMOTELY THIS REALLY PROVES THE POINT AND WE LEARNED A LOT IN A NUMBER OF FIRMS THAT I'M TALKING WITH THAT THEY REPLACE OUR PRODUCTIVITY IS DOWN IN REVENUE IS DOWN AND WERE NOT AS PRODUCTIVE WITH A REMOTE WORK AND WERE BRINGING PEOPLE BACK WHERE THEY HAVE BROUGHT PEOPLE BACK IN THE PSALTER PRODUCTIVITY.

BEING ABLE TO HAVE A BALANCE I THINK IS GOING TO BE KEY AND TRYING TO HASH THAT OUT.

I PUSH IT YOUR WORK ON THIS BECAUSE THE MOVING TARGET AND VERY DIFFICULT TO IMPLEMENT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE DIVERSITY OF THE WORK ENVIRONMENTS AND WORK OBLIGATION THAT PEOPLE HAVE.

THAT IS A READING, ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? OKAY, NOW WE MOVE ON TO CONSIDERATION FOR ADOPTION OF THE 2022 - 2023 BOARD OF

[7.04 Consideration of Adoption of 2022-2023 Board of Trustees/President's Goals]

TRUSTEES/PRESIDENT SCHOOLS.

IT'S RECOMMENDED THAT WE ADOPT THESE GOALS AND WE DISCUSSED THEM EARLIER.

IS THERE ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION ON THESE GOALS?

>> LAST MEETING I DID NOT GET TO PARTICIPATE BECAUSE I WAS IN SACRAMENTO AND IDA A LOT OF FEEDBACK AND I'M SORRY DOCTOR FIERRO TONIGHT WAS NOT MY BEST DAY TO ADVANCE I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS BUT I HAVE ADVANCED ON FOUR GOALS.

[02:25:03]

>> LET ME GIVE YOU MY FEEDBACK AND LIKE I SAID NUMBER SIX, THIS IS SOMETHING EXPAND ACROSS THEIR SERVICE AREA, I 100% ECHO I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN EARLY COLLEGE AT EVERY SINGLE HIGH SCHOOL.

I KNOW WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT.

I KNOW THIS FOR SOME OF THE DISTRICTS THAT WE REPRESENT THAT WERE MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE OF, SOME SCHOOLS AND HIGH SCHOOLS HAVE ANOTHER STONE AND I THINK GOING BACK IT'S AN EQUITY ISSUE BECAUSE JUST AS MUCH I LOVE THE SUPPORT THAT WERE GETTING DO WE HAVE ONE IN ARTESIA? NO.

THAT IS HONESTLY AGAIN ONE OF THE KEY FOCUSES A DUAL AROMA IT HELPS STUDENTS WHO DIDN'T THINK THAT THEY HAD A CHANCE AT COLLEGE SO WE REALLY NEED TO FOCUS OUR EFFORTS AND I KNOW COLLEEN AND HER TEAM ARE DOING AN AMAZING JOB NAVIGATING VERY TOUGH SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND IT'S A LOT OF WORK BUT I REALLY THINK THAT SHOULD BE OUR GOAL, THAT WOULD BE MY SUGGESTION ACROSS EXPAND EARLY COLLEGE AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL IN OUR SERVICE AREA.

THAT WOULD BE MY FIRST CHOICE, MY FIRST SUGGESTION.

NUMBER EIGHT MY OTHER SUGGESTION ON NUMBER EIGHT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE AN EMPHASIS ON DEIA AS WELL SO I WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO THOSE THAT LOOKING TO ENHANCE ONLINE STUDENT SUPPORT SKILLS WITH A FOCUS ON DEIA THAT WOULD BE THE SECOND SUGGESTION FOR NUMBER EIGHT.

NUMBER 101 EVENT PER SEMESTER TO BRING NEW COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO THE CAMPUS INCLUDING THE PACK COMMUNITY EVENT IN AT LEAST ONE FREE EVENT PER SEMESTER GOING BACK TO NOT EVERYBODY CAN AFFORD TO PAY MONEY TO ATTEND EVENTS HERE, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ABOUT MAKING IT INCLUSIVE TO EVERY MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY AND NUMBER 11 BEGIN PLANNING EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN THAT INCLUDES EDUCATIONAL MASTER PLAN, FACILITIES MASTER PLAN AND TECHNOLOGIES MASTER PLAN.

AS PART OF THAT I WOULD LIKE AN EMPHASIS ON MAKING EASIER FOR STUDENTS TO APPLY TO THIS COLLEGE.

FOR ALL OF US WHO HAVE APPLIED TO CERRITOS COLLEGE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT AND I MEAN AGAIN IS NOT TO CERRITOS COLLEGE IS ACROSS THE ENTIRE SYSTEM BUT I DO SEE EFFORTS AND OTHER COMMUNITY COLLEGES TO REALLY FOCUS IN ON HOW TO MAKE IT EASIER.

TODAY, SHOUT OUT TO OUR DOCUMENTER STUDENT ACTION WEEK AND THEY BASICALLY VIEWED THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PORTAL FROM A DREAMER'S PERSPECTIVE.

AND TALK ABOUT HOW CHALLENGING THAT IS WHEN THE FIRST QUESTION WHAT IS YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

AGAIN WE REALLY HAVE TO BE VERY MEANINGFUL, JUST VERY THOUGHTFUL OF REMOVING THESE BARRIERS WHICH SERVE NO PURPOSE SO SORRY I DID NOT SEND THEM ALL TO YOU THERE ALTHOUGH MY HEAD BUT THOSE OF THE THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE.

>> I ACCEPT ALL THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND WELCOME THEM.

THE ONLY THING I CANNOT NECESSARILY PROMISE AS THOUGH WE ARE ALREADY TRYING TO MAKE WORK ON THAT AS APPLICATION WE, IF YOU ARE WATCHING US WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION WE WOULD REALLY LIKE TO MAKE THAT APPLICATION AS EASY AS POSSIBLE, WE HAD A NUMBER OF DISCUSSION OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AND HAD TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR THE STUDENTS TO ENROLL AND MOST OF THAT CAN BE ACHIEVED WITH A HANDFUL OF QUESTIONS THAT I'VE KNOWN NECESSARILY INTRUSIVE AND WE CAN GET THE REST OF THE INFORMATION WHEN THE STUDENT COMES TO CLASS, HOWEVER, PART OF THE COMPLICATION OF APPLICATION, CANNOT BE COMPLETED UNLESS THEY GO TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS WHICH DOESN'T RUN BUT WE WILL CONTINUE TO NUDGE IF IT IS A WAY TO MAKE THEM BETTER, SINCE THE ARRIVAL SHE NEEDS TO FIND A WAY IN WHICH WE CAN PUT THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM WITH DIFFUSE QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE AND THAT INCLUDES FINANCIAL AID.

WE ARE WORKING ON A PILOT PROGRAM TO FAST-TRACK ANY PROMISES WE MAKE THE STUDENTS REGARDING FINANCIAL AID.

WE ARE WORKING ON ISSUES SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGY PIECE BUT I THINK THIS YEAR WE HAVE A MEGA FUNDER THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO USE AND WE WILL.

THE REST, I THINK THEY ARE GREAT AND IF ANDREA YOU GET ALL OF THAT YOU'LL BE

[02:30:10]

COMFORTABLE MAKING THE MODIFICATION ON THE FLY AND IMPROVING IF THAT IS SOMETHING THE REST OF THE BOARD WOULD LIKE TO DO.

>> I ALSO WELCOME ALL THESE FEEDBACK ITEMS TRUSTEE PEREZ AND THIS IS PROBABLY NOT IMPORTANT TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN IT SEEMS LIKE THE POINT IN MAKING IT EASIER TO ENROLL, I WAS LOOKING FOR THE BEST POSSIBILITY, DOESN'T LINK VERY EASILY TO NUMBER 11 IN MY MIND THAT MAYBE NUMBER 12.

IN RELATED TO THAT IS WHAT YOU BROUGHT UP FINANCIAL AID, I THINK THE EXACT SAME POINT ABOUT BECOMING ENROLLED HERE IN APPLYING SHOULD ALSO BE THE CASE FOR FINANCIAL AID.

AND I KNOW WERE ALREADY AT WORK AT THAT BUT IT SHOULD BE OUR GOAL GIVEN WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WERE TRYING TO DO.

MAKE IT EASY AS POSSIBLE.

TO RECEIVE THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF FINANCIAL AID FOR TENANTS.

>> I THINK IT WOULD REALLY HELP WITH THIS IS ONE OF HER GOALS BECAUSE DOCTOR FERA AND I COULD USE AS A STATEWIDE ADVOCACY SAYING THIS IS SO IMPORTANT THAT HER COLLEGE BOARD IDENTIFIED THIS, WE HAVE HAD THESE CONVERSATIONS ON THE STATE LEVEL.

IT IS THROUGH THE CCP AND OTHER ONLINE PORTAL AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME CHANGES BUT AGAIN, WHAT IS THE RIGHT WHERE THEY MANDATE A LOT OF CHANGES THAT WE HAVE TO DO AT A DISTRICT LEVEL.

SO WE SHOULD ALSO BE FILING SOME SUGGESTIONS THAT WOULD HELP HER STUDENTS AT THE STATEWIDE LEVEL.

>> ALMOST TO THAT POINT, THESE ARE GOALS.

THESE AREN'T ALL, I THINK YOUR MODIFICATION MOVES IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TRUSTEE PEREZ BUT THEY'RE NOT ALL MEASURABLE AND I USED TO HATE IT WHEN MY BOSSES WERE LIKE WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AND THEY NEED TO BE MEASURABLE BUT I DO THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

>> WE WILL FIND A WAY.

>> ANDREA IS ALREADY THINKING.

>> IT MAY BE HELPFUL TO MEASURE X NUMBER OF CLICKS WHERE YOU CAN APPLY WITHIN 20 MINUTES.

OR WHATEVER THE METRIC IT IS, THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL JUST BECAUSE TRIED TO MAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE IS A GOOD DIRECTION BUT HOW DO WE HAVE A CLEAR TARGET AND KEEP THE AND FOCUS.

>> WERE MAKING SOME CHANGES ON TECHNOLOGY AND PROBABLY HAS A LOT OF BACKGROUND WITH THAT AND TAKING A QUICK LOOK AT HER TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE AND HOW EVERYTHING IS WORKING SO WE HAVE CHANGES COMING UP BUT WE DO ALL AGREE ON THE COMPLICATIONS OR CURRENT APPLICATION, THE EXAMPLE I LIKE TO USE AND COINCIDENTLY I WAS IN A MEETING AND FINANCIAL AID.

THE EXAMPLE I ALWAYS USES A MEMBERSHIP TO A DREAM OR WHEN YOU HAVE SERIOUS EXAM YOU CAN GET IT WITH ONE CLICK BUT ONCE SUBSCRIBED YOUR NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE.

THAT IS DONE BY THE SIGNED A LOT OF IT PIECES THAT REQUIRE YOU TO ENROLL AND SOLICIT SERVICES ARE VERY EASY, HOW TO GET OUT AND MEDICATION WE MAKE IT VERY HARD TO GET IN, VERY EASY TO GET OUT.

IF I WANT TO GET OUT I WAS COMING TO CLASS.

WE SHOULD CHANGE THAT A LITTLE BIT TO MAKE IT VERY EASY FOR THE STUDENTS TO COME TO CLASS, BUILD THE RELATION WITH US FOR US TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE SERVICES AND FOR THEM TO FIND OUT THAT YES THEY DO ACTUALLY BELONG TO COLLEGE AND AS WE BUILD ALL THOSE RELATIONS IT MAKES IT HARDER FOR THEM TO LEAVE CAMPUS.

BUT IT IS AS EASY AS GETTING FRUSTRATED TO THE MIDDLE OF APPLICATION AND SAY I'M NOT GOING TO COLLEGE I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS.

YOU HAVE TO COMPLETE THE TWO PAGES AND OTHERWISE APPLICATION NEVER MAKES IT TO US.

BUT I DO BELIEVE IF WERE ABLE TO ACTUALLY GET TO THE FIRST PAGE, THEN IDENTIFY THE STUDENTS, WE CAN REACH THEM ONCE THEY ARE HERE AND OFFER THE SERVICES ON THE SECOND PAGE.

BUT IF WE CANNOT GET THEM TO THE DOOR IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER HOW WONDERFUL OUR SERVICES ARE SO WE WANT TO MAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE TO GET IN AND HARD TO GET OUT BUT IT'LL TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME.

>> BE CAREFUL I STILL HAVE DREAMS OF A POP-UP MATH CLASS, OKAY MAYBE IT DOESN'T

[02:35:01]

HAVE TO BE IN THIS DOCUMENT THIS YEAR BUT I DO SUGGEST THAT WE HAVE SOME MEASURABLE GOALS THAT MAYBE HAVE NUMBERS ATTACHED TO THEM SO WE CAN TELL IF WE ACHIEVE THEM OR NOT.

IT'S HARD TO GO BACK THERE WHEN WE SELF EVALUATE TO ENHANCE CAMPUS THIS AND THIS AND WOULD LIKE TO THINK WE DID A GOOD JOB OF GENERALLY DOING THAT BUT IT WOULD BE A LOT EASIER IF WE CAN ADD METRICS.

>> SURE.

>> WITH THAT DO WE HAVE A MOTION TO ADOPT THE AMENDED GOALS?

>> SO MOVED.

>> SECOND.

>> I GAVE IT TO ANDREA I DON'T KNOW SHE NEEDS TO READ IT.

>> SURE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> JUST THE AMENDMENTS PLEASE.

>> I THINK I CAPTURED IT.

GOAL NUMBER SIX EXPAND CONCURRENT DUAL ENROLLMENT IN EARLY COLLEGE OFFERINGS EXPANDED EVERY HIGH SCHOOL IN THE SERVICE AREA.

AND NUMBER EIGHT, PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO THOSE LOOKING TO ENHANCE THEIR ONLINE TEACHING AND STUDENT SUPPORT SKILLS WITH A FOCUS ON DIA AND NUMBER 10 IS TO ADD THE WORD FREE, HOST AT LEAST ONE FREE EVENT PER SEMESTER.

DESIGNED TO BRING NEW COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO THE CAMPUS.

AND NUMBER 12.

>> CONTINUE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES CAMPUS WIDE ULTIMATELY REMOVING BARRIERS SO IT'S EASIER FOR STUDENTS TO APPLY TO RECEIVERS COLLEGE AND RECEIVED FINANCIAL AID.

>> I THINK THE ONLY THINGS I WOULD SAY ABOUT THE LAST TWO, IF THERE'S ANY WAY, MAYBE WE ALL UNDERSTAND THIS ON THE BOARD BUT THE PARTICULAR FOCUS IN EACH ONE OF THOSE, THE PARTICULAR FOCUS IN DEA DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN WE HAVE TO DO OTHER TRAININGS.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THERE'S NOT KIND OF CONFUSION WITH THE UPGRADING OF THE TECHNOLOGY IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST THE FINANCIAL AID.

>> ALRIGHT, DO WE HAVE A MOTION? SO MOVED.

>> SECOND.

>> BUT NOW YOU KNOW WHAT IT REALLY SAYS.

ALRIGHT, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

ALRIGHT.

MOTION PASSES, WE HAVE OUR GOALS.

YOU DO TO TRUSTEE.

WITH THAT WILL MOOCHER REPORTS AND COMMENTS FROM CONSTITUENT GROUPS.

[8.01 Reports and Comments from Constituent Groups]

SO WE WILL BEGIN WITH DENNIS FALCONE FACULTY SENATE PRESIDENT.

>> I DON'T KNOW IF PROFESSOR IS STILL THERE OR CAN GIVE A REPORT, I HAD A QUICK PHONE CALL WITH HIM TODAY THIS AFTERNOON AND HE IS ILL SO HIS VOICE WAS A LITTLE BIT SCRATCHY SO I DON'T KNOW IF HE'LL BE ABLE TO DO THAT TONIGHT.

>> ALRIGHT MUTE IS STILL ON.

I AM GOING TO TAKE THAT AS A SIGN THAT YOU ARE A PASS.

ALRIGHT.

DOCTOR CCSF PRESIDENT.

>> I ACTUALLY DON'T HAVE #THAT SUFFERS.

>> BEFORE I PUT ON MY CCF HAT I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR FINANCIAL 18 TODAY IS FINANCIAL AID DATE.

IT'S INTERESTING WE CHOSE TO STAY TO TALK ABOUT FINANCIAL AID.

SO WEARING MY IN DOC YOU TASK FORCE HAT, THANK YOU TRUSTEE PEREZ FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THAT.

I SAW THAT PIN EARLIER, THE EQUITY CENTER AND MARIA HAS PUT ON A WEEKS WORTH OF ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS FOR THIS COLLEGE IN THIS COMMUNITY AS WELL SO I JUST WANT TO PUT THAT OUT THERE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR EFFORTS.

NOW PUTTING MY CCFF HAT.

CCSF HAS BEEN WORKING DILIGENTLY WITH THE DISTRICT TO GO THROUGH THE CBA SO THE ENTIRE 200 SOMETHING PAGES LINE BY LINE WE WORK TOGETHER TO GO THROUGH THAT IS NOW ONLINE AVAILABLE FOR FACULTY COMMUNITY MEMBERS, MANAGERS.

OTHER ITEMS TO TALK ABOUT, WE ARE WORKING ON A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT MO USE THAT WE

[02:40:01]

ARE WORKING THROUGH.

SUCH AS DEFINING ACADEMIC WORK, SUCH AS TALKING THROUGH SOME OF THE REMOTE WORK CHALLENGES AND CONVERSATION AND IN ADDITION MO USE.

MOST IMPORTANT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT NEXT WEEK IS CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK FOR OUR PART-TIME FACULTY.

OCTOBER 24 TO OCTOBER 28 IS CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK, CCSF WILL CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE FOR QUALITY, AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE FOR OUR PART-TIME FACULTY.

AND THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR.

>> CSEA PRESIDENT LOPEZ.

>> HELLO, GOOD EVENING.

SO WE JUST WANTED TO THANK THE DISTRICT TEAM FOR OUR NEGOTIATION PROCESS, WE DID HAVE GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS RIGHT NOW IS THAT THE SANTA FE FIELD OFFICE THEY ARE REVIEWING ARE TENTATIVE AGREEMENTS THAT WE HAVE IN THE POOL SUCCESSOR, ALSO CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CULINARY ARTS TEAM THEY DO HAVE A GREAT PROGRAM AND IT'S A WONDERFUL CTE PROGRAM, THEY WERE THE ONE AS OF THE FIRST ONES TO REMAIN ON CAMPUS BUT IT'S GOOD TO SEE THEIR EFFORTS ARE BEING PAID OFF, CONGRATULATIONS TO TRUSTEE GREEN ON JOINING THE BOARD AND ALSO JUST AS A NOTE OUR ON-SITE HERO FOR OUR CHAPTER AS WELL AS OUR MEMBER OF THE YEAR FOR CSEA WAS FEATURED IN A FOCUS MAGAZINE AND THERE'S A LOT OF REALLY GOOD CERRITOS COLLEGE AS A WHOLE SO IT'S REALLY NICE THAT COMMUNITY COLLEGES MAKE UP A SMALL GROUP WITHIN CSEA SO IT WAS NICE TO SEE HER BEING FUTURE SO JUST TO LET HER FOLKS NO WERE STILL GOING TO THE PROCESS SO WE HOPE TO BACK THAT UP AND HAVE SOMETHING NICE FOR OUR MEMBERS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON, IF NOT HOPEFULLY BY THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT FOR MY REPORT, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU MISS LOPEZ.

>> ALRIGHT NOW WILL MOVE ONTO REPORTS AND COMMENTS.

[8.02 Reports and Comments from District Officials]

>> YES.

>> JUST GETTING READY FOR HER REPORT.

>> ALL GETTING READY FOR YOUR REPORT, ALRIGHT.

FROM DISTRICT OFFICIALS.

GO AHEAD.

>> I ALSO WANT TO SEGUE AND CONTINUE SOME OF OUR DIA EFFORTS AS REQUESTED SO ASIDE FROM OBTAINING OUR JOB DESCRIPTIONS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE ADA COMPLIANT AND ACCESSIBLE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER PROJECTS WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON IN COLLABORATION WITH MULTIPLE GROUPS, ONE OBVIOUSLY BE THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS RESOLUTION THAT YOU ALL SIGNED, THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF HR FOR DOING THAT, THAT ACTUALLY SUPPORTS MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO DURING THIS MONTH INCLUDING A COUPLE PRESENTATIONS THAT HAVE INCLUDED A TALK BY DEBBIE RIDDLE ON STOPPING THE STOP IN ORDER TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT THERE ON THE IMPLICATIONS OF STOPPING.

WE ALSO COLLABORATED IN LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE ON SAFETY IN THE USE OF OUR TECHNOLOGY, OUR PHONES AND INTERNET USAGE AND ULTIMATELY WE'VE ALSO BEEN ABLE TO HAVE OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDING THE LOT NEXT IN THE BOOK SCHOLARSHIP THAT WE HAD ON SEPTEMBER 28, WE WERE ABLE TO RAISE $1050 WHICH WE GAVE BACK TO HER STUDENTS THAT SAME DAY SO WE THINK EVERYONE THAT WAS IN ATTENDANCE I KNOW SOME OF YOU WERE THERE SO WE APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT THAT YOU GAVE US WE ALSO SUBMITTED OUR EEO BUDGET TO THE STATE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE AND LOOKING FORWARD TO SPENDER OTHER DOLLARS WITH OTHER IDEAS THAT WE HAVE AND WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH OUR DISTRICT ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON EQUITY AND INCLUSION IN ORDER TO DISCUSS SOME OF OUR INITIATIVES, THE BRAND-NEW COMMITTEE STRUCTURE, BRAND-NEW TEAM, BRAND-NEW IDEAS SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE CONVERSATION WE ARE IN THE PLANNING STAGES OF TALKING DAY AND WE WILL HAVE A DIA TRACK AND FINALLY THE CONCEPT OF ANONYMOUS APPLICATIONS IS A CONCEPT THAT WERE VERY EXCITED ABOUT PURSUING AND WE CONTINUE TO DO RESEARCH IN ORDER TO ENSURE WE HAVE THE BAND WITHIN THE TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR GUTIERREZ.

WITH THAT IS ANY ADDITIONAL, VICE PRESIDENTIAL COMMENTS? ALRIGHT, THANK YOU.

SO WE'LL BEGIN THE BOARD, AND REPORTS, STUDENT TRUSTEE.

>> GOOD AFTERNOON BOARD, YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF ANCC UPDATES AND INITIATIVES.

I JUST WANT TO GIVE, WHICH HER STUDENTS THAT A PROTAGONIST ENDEAVORED A GOOD LUCK.

FIND THE ASC MORE SPECIFICALLY CABINET AND SENATE ARE EXPLORING WAYS TO TAKE A NONPARTISAN STANCE OF SUPPORT OR OPPOSITION ON LOCAL STATE AND NATIONAL BALLOT MEASURES WITH HOPES TO BE THAT MUCH MORE OF A POWERFUL ADVOCACY BODY FOR THE STUDENTS.

ANY DECISIONS WILL BE SHARED IN WRITING AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND OTHER ELECTED OFFICIALS.

I WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ACC AS A WHOLE FOR GETTING REVAMPED AND COMING OUT OF THE PANDEMIC WITH VIRTUALLY NO PARTICIPATION COMPARED TO WHAT WE HAVE.

NOW I BELIEVE WE HAVE EVERY SINGLE SPOT ON ANCC STUDENT GOVERNMENT WE JUST WANT TO WISH THEM GOOD LUCK IN THE SCHOOL YEAR END THANK YOU FOR THE DEDICATION THAT YOU GUYS HAVE FOR THE STUDENTS.

>> THAT'S AWESOME.

>> THANK YOU.

>> TRUSTEE.

>> I ATTENDED THE CERRITOS STATE OF COLLEGE, DOCTOR FIERRO YOU DID AN EXCELLENT JOB OF EXACTLY TELLING WHERE WE ARE AT, WHAT WE ARE LOOKING AT IN THE FUTURE.

SO GREAT PRESENTATION.

THERE WAS A LOT OF DIFFERENT DIGNITARIES THAT CAME TO THAT EVENT TO HEAR EXACTLY WHAT THE STATE OF THE COLLEGE WAS WHICH WAS GOOD TO SEE PEOPLE FROM OUR DIFFERENT, NOT SCHOOL BOARDS BUT ARE DIFFERENT CITIES ELECTED OFFICIALS THAT WERE PRESENT BUT IT WAS A GREAT EVENT.

I ALSO WENT THROUGH THE [INAUDIBLE] DAY OF SERVICE TO SUPPORT TRUSTEE LEWIS.

IT WAS A GREAT EVENT, TRUSTEE LEWIS WORKED THAT DAY, AGAIN A GREAT EVENT SHOWING HOW THE CITY REALLY CARES ABOUT IT, IT'S CONSTITUENTS AND IT WAS GREAT TO SEE.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> FIRST OFF CONGRATULATIONS TRUSTEE GREEN, WELCOME TO THE BOARD WE PROMISE WE WILL BAKE YOUR ROOM APPEAR, WILL BRING A CHAIR, DON'T WORRY IT'LL BE COMFY.

SO I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU IN THESE UPCOMING YEARS.

THANK YOU FOR PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO DISCUSSING ALL KINDS OF ISSUES WITH YOU OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS, THANK YOU.

I WANT TO ANNOUNCE THAT SHORTLY AFTER THE LAST BOARD MEETING, ABOUT A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, MY FIRSTBORN, MY NEW DAUGHTER VERA ROSE LEWIS WAS BORN ON NOVEMBER I'M SORRY SEPTEMBER 16 AT 10:57 A.M., 6 POUNDS 5 OUNCES, 19 INCHES.

THANK YOU.

SHE IS DEVELOPING WELL AND IF YOU WANT TO SEE LOTS AND LOTS OF PICTURES I'VE GOT PLENTY OF THEM.

FOR SURE.

SO I HAVEN'T BEEN TO AS MANY EVENTS AS I USED TO BEFORE AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE BUT ONE EVENT I HAVE COMMITTED TO SINCE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR IS LOVE LA MIRADA THE DAY OF SERVICE THAT WE HAD ABOUT 450 VOLUNTEERS GO OUT THERE AND THANK YOU TO TRUSTEE AND MAYOR AS WELL TO COME ON SUPPORT LA MIRADA IN EVERYTHING THAT WE DO, UNFORTUNATELY WE HAD TO CANCEL THE PAINTING OF THE FENCES BECAUSE SOME OF THE LIGHT DRIZZLE THAT DAY BUT THERE WILL BE A SECOND DAY.

THERE IS A SECOND OPPORTUNITY FOR ANYBODY THAT WANTS TO COME BY AND HELP PAINT FENCES OR OTHER THINGS IN THE GREAT CITY OF LA MIRADA.

[02:50:04]

WITH THAT I TURN YOU OVER TO MY OTHER COLLEAGUES, THANK YOU.

>> I ALSO ATTEND CERRITOS COLLEGE EVENT.

GREAT PRESENTATION, THANK YOU DOCTOR FIERRO, WELCOME THE SCREEN.

THANK YOU.

THAT IS MY REPORT.

>> AT THE RISK OF SOUNDING REDUNDANT, THE STATE OF COLLEGE EVENT WAS GREAT, THANK YOU EVERYBODY WHO ORGANIZE IT.

WE GOT TO DISPLAY OUR INCREDIBLE CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM, GREAT HOSTING ABILITIES AND OF COURSE DOCTOR FIERRO WAS IN FINE FORM DOING THIS THING NOW THAT I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW I CAN LEARN WHERE HE CAN SPOUT OUT 55 STATS IN A ROW WHILE WALKING BACK AND FORTH WITHOUT NOTES TO A LIVE AUDIENCE.

IT COULD'VE BEEN 55 OR 56, I'M NOT GOOD WITH STATS.

IT WAS GREAT AND I KNOW A NUMBER OF PEOPLE LEFT THAT SESSION SAYING INVESTING IN CERRITOS COLLEGE, WITH YOUR TIME, ENERGY OR OTHER RESOURCES IS REALLY A GOOD IDEA THERE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING THERE.

WHICH IS KIND OF FUN BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU DO ALL THE STUFF, THERE ARE PARKING LOTS ON THE EDGE OF CAMPUS IT DOESN'T QUITE BLEED OVER TO THE COMMUNITY JUST YET.

SO GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT THERE IS REALLY GREAT.

IN WELCOME TRUSTEE GREEN.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU.

>> YOU CAN BE THE CLOSING ARGUMENTS DOCTOR SALAZAR.

>> THANK YOU.

I WILL CHANGE IT UP.

I ATTENDED ALONG WITH DOCTOR FIERRO, J LEDESMA AND PHILLIPE LOPEZ NORWALK HALLOWEEN PARADE.

I WAS VERY PROUD TO HAVE ALL THE PARTICIPATION AND THEN TO HAVE THE CHEERLEADERS BEHIND US.

I FELT LIKE WE MADE A BIG PRESENCE TO THE COMMUNITY IN A THINK IT WAS THE FIRST ONE SINCE COVID SO SKIP TWO YEARS, THIS IS THE FIRST ONE.

DOCTOR FIERRO WAS GOING WITH OR WITHOUT US, HE WAS ALREADY GOING TO GO, I'M GLAD I WAS ABLE TO JOIN HIM AND PHILLIPE FOR DRIVING AND BRINGING HIS DAUGHTERS.

SO I HAD A GREAT TIME, I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THAT AND REALLY BEING PRESENT.

I REPRESENT MOST OF NORWALK, SO TO ME IT WAS A PROUD MOMENT TO BE THERE IN CERRITOS COLLEGE REALLY REPRESENTING IN THE COMMUNITY.

AND I JUST WANTED TO WELCOME THE SCREEN, LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING TOGETHER AND MOVING THE COLLEGE FORWARD.

THANK YOU.

>> J PEREZ.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WELCOME TRUSTEE GREEN WERE EXCITED FOR YOU TO JOIN YOUR TEAM WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOU AND LEARNING ALL ABOUT CERRITOS COLLEGE AND GET AS MUCH OUT OF IT AS WE ALL HAVE.

IT'S A HONOR TO REPRESENT THE COMMUNITY IN THE COLLEGE.

SORRY I DID NOT DO IT.

FIRST OF ALL, UNDOCUMENTED STUDENT ACTION WEEK.

THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY AT THE COLLEGE AS DOCTOR WANG MENTIONED SHE DID A FANTASTIC JOB, I SAW THE SOCIAL MEDIA POST SHE FACILITATED THE GROUP, EVERYBODY SHOULD BE DOING IT, THE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE HAS BEEN DOING WEBINARS OFFICE AT 9:00 A.M.

EVERY DAY BUT I REALLY CAUGHT TOO BUT TOMORROW IS SOCIAL MEDIA ADVOCACY DAY I WILL ASK EACH ONE OF MY COLLEAGUES HERE TO PLEASE DO A SOCIAL MEDIA POST TOMORROW IN SUPPORT OF OUR DREAMERS OR UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS, THAT IS REALLY THE CHANCELLOR'S CALL TO ACTION TOMORROW NO WEBINAR BUT PLEASE DO SOCIAL MEDIA POST AND WE KNOW IT CERRITOS COLLEGE WE HAVE A DEEP DEDICATION FOR RJ MORRIS BECAUSE THAT'S PART OF OUR POPULATION.

>> WILL ACCOUNT IF WE RETWEET YOU?

>> I GUESS.

THIS WEEK I WAS ALSO ABLE TO FACILITATE A DISCUSSION WITH THE SECRETARY OF STATE DOCTOR SHIRLEY WEBER.

AND WE DID A PANEL ON RAISING STUDENTS VOICES TO THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.

I DID NOT KNOW THIS I LEARNED TONS THERE WAS A PIECE OF STATE LEGISLATION THAT ACTUALLY REQUIRED THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES, THE UC IN THE CSU TO PUT VERY MEANINGFUL EFFORT INTO GETTING MORE OF OUR STUDENTS REGISTER TO VOTE.

I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL PARTICIPATING.

THERE IS A VALID BOWL THAT WE ARE LOSING VERY, VERY BADLY, I THINK WE ONLY HAVE 26 PEOPLE WHO REGISTER TO VOTE AND OF COURSE THE NUMBER ONE COLLEGES BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE SO THE IDEA IS TO GET PEOPLE TO REGISTER TO VOTE, YOU HAVE TO SCAN A SPECIFIC QR CODE BECAUSE THEN WE GET CREDIT FOR IT IF THEY MENTION

[02:55:04]

CERRITOS COLLEGE.

AND PRETTY SURE SOMEBODY HAS THAT, DOCTOR YOU PROBABLY HAVE THE OR WHO HAS IT?

>> I FIND IT BUT THERE'S A QR CODE WE NEED TO GET OUT TO GET HER STUDENTS TO REGISTER SO WE WILL COUNT.

ALSO THERE'S AN ACTION PLAN THAT EVERY SINGLE COLLEGE HAS TO SUBMIT TO THE CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE ABOUT WHAT THE ACTIONS WE ARE TAKING TO GET STUDENTS TO VOTE, I DID NOT KNOW THAT DID ANY OF YOU KNOW THAT, I DID NOT KNOW THAT EITHER.

EVERY COLLEGE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A NADER WHO DOES THIS.

DOCTOR FIERRO NEXT BOARD MEETING LET US KNOW WHAT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING IT'S DUE TO THE STATE REALLY SOON WE HAD TO SUBMIT A PLAN TO THE STATE AND LET US KNOW WHO OUR COORDINATOR IS SO CAN BECOME MORE ENGAGED IN IT.

>> AGAIN A FANTASTIC AND VERY STUDENT DRIVEN AND YOUNG YOUNG STAFFERS, SECRETARY OF STATE YOU WERE JUST AMAZING AND ALSO THE SS TRIPLE C, THE STUDENT SENATE WERE REALLY THE ONES LEADING THIS EFFORT.

AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO HEAR OUR PRESENTATION WELL WORTH IT.

ALSO WERE HIRING A NEW CHANCELLOR, EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW CHANCELLOR, CHANCELLOR MOVED ON AND THEY DO THE LISTENING SESSION THIS PAST WEEK FOR TRUSTEES AND TRUSTEE AND I JOINED THERE'S ONLY 13 PEOPLE ON THERE BUT NEVER FEAR YOU CAN SUBMIT A SURVEY TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT WE WANT TO SEE IN THE NEXT CHANCELLOR, MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE, EVERYBODY WRITE THIS DOWN YOU WANTED CHANCELLOR WITH COMMUNITY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE, THAT IS SOMETHING WE SHOULD ALL BE ADVOCATING FOR.

STAYED AT THE COLLEGE A WONDERFUL GREAT JOB FOR EVERYBODY YOU PUT THAT TOGETHER.

DOCTOR FIERRO AND I THANK YOU WERE ON THIS PHONE CALL, WE PARTICIPATED IN A MEETING WITH THE CAMPAIGN FOR COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY.

AND EVERYBODY IS FAMILIAR WITH THEIR WORK AS ADVOCATES.

THEY REALLY HAVE PUSHED US TO IN WAYS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN HAPPY WITH BUT THEY REALLY PUSHED COLLEGES ACROSS THE STATE.

SO THIS YEAR THEY'RE GOING TO GIVE US A BREAK AND NOT SPONSOR ANY LEGISLATION BECAUSE THEY REALLY GOING TO BE FOCUSING ON THE IMPLEMENTATION AT AB 1705, AB 705, I THINK WE HAVE A SESSION COMING UP ON THAT BUT I THINK WE SHOULD REALLY SPEND SOME TIME TALKING ABOUT THAT BECAUSE THAT IS REALLY GOING TO BE THE KEY TO GET TO TRY TO HOLD US ACCOUNTABLE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF 1705 AND 705.

THE CONVENTION IS COMING UP, NOVEMBER 16 THROUGH THE 18TH AT THE BURLINGAME IN SAN FRANCISCO, WE HAVEN'T TOLD ANDREA YET IF YOU WANT TO GO, PLEASE GO BECAUSE REDOING A PRESENTATION, WE ARE ON A PANEL I DON'T KNOW WHO'S ON A PANEL BUT SOMEBODY'S ON THE PANEL FROM CERRITOS COLLEGE SO COME TO SUPPORT OUR TEAM.

WE HAVE TWO PANELS?

>> ABBOTT AND FORTUNATELY THERE AT THE EXACT SAME TIME.

>> TURN IT.

>> WHO'S IN CHARGE OF THAT.

>> YOU OR ME.

>> WE HAVE TO GROUP.

>> DON'T WORRY AFTER PRESENTATIONS, YOU ARE GOOD.

>> REALLY WE CAN SHOW CERRITOS COLLEGE SUPPORT APPARENTLY IS NOT IN SAN FRANCISCO IT'S IN BURLINGAME, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THAT IS.

>> BASICALLY SAN FRANCISCO.

>> BY THE AIRPORT.

>> I GUESS GOOD AND NOT GOOD BUT PLEASE GO TO SUPPORTED TEAM STATE OF THE CITY HAS BEEN WONDERFUL WE ATTENDED THE STATE OF THE CITY AND BELLFLOWER WHICH IS VERY GOOD IN THE CITY OF CERRITOS WHICH IS GOOD, AGAIN A LOT OF MENTION OF ALL THE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENTS THAT ARE GOING ON INTO ADVERSITIES AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST I HAVE TO MENTION THE BATHROOMS BECAUSE THAT IS AN EXTREMELY PROUD MOMENT THAT I HAVE FOR OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE HONESTLY I BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT FOR HOW MANY YEARS AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN UNTIL THE STUDENTS GOT INVOLVED IN SUPPORTED IT.

REALLY TRUSTEE INTO ALL THE SEC BEING ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE YOUR LEADERSHIP AND SHOWING THAT YOU'RE WILLING TO INVEST IN YOUR STUDENTS, I REALLY FEEL THAT'S WHAT MOVE THIS COLLEGE AND GAVE THEM THE KNOWLEDGE THAT DOCTOR FIERRO NEEDED TO REALLY AGAIN PUT A LOT OF EFFORT INTO THIS, SO I'VE BEEN SHARING EVERYWHERE AND TEXTING IT'S ALL MY TRANSPORTATION FRIENDS AND THEY'RE JUST REALLY PROUD OF ESPECIALLY THE DEDICATION FROM THE CITY OF NORWALK.

AGAIN FOR ALL YOU GREAT PEOPLE WHO REPRESENT NORWALK, THINKING NORWALK BECAUSE WITHOUT NORWALK'S LEADERSHIP THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT JIM PARKER WHO IS AHEAD OF NORWALK TRANSIT THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED EITHER.

HE IS DEEPLY COMMITTED TO HER STUDENTS AND IT'S WONDERFUL TO HAVE A CITY WHO HAS THAT MUCH CARE AND PASSION FOR OUR STUDENTS WE SEE A NORWALK EDUCATION ALLIANCE AND IF WE COULD JUST REPLICATE THAT FOR ALL OF HER 13 CITIES I THINK WE WOULD MAKE EVEN MUCH GREATER STRIDES SO AGAIN I'M JUST REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE BUS ROUTES AND I SAW, IT WAS OURS AND TEACHER BUT I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO SEE IT AND

[03:00:02]

JUST ELIMINATING ANOTHER BARRIER FOR OUR STUDENTS TO SUCCEED IN COMPLETE HIS TRANSPORTATION.

THE DATA SHOWS STUDENTS ARE USING EVERYWHERE, THEY'RE NOT JUST USING IT TO GO TO COLLEGE, THEY'RE USING IT TO GET TO WORK, TO SEE THEIR FAMILIES, AGAIN REALLY HELPING THEM OUT AND I KNOW ALL OF US KNOW BECAUSE WE WORK WITH OUR STUDENTS AND WE UNDERSTAND SOME OF THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT THIS WAS REALLY, REALLY KEY ALONG TO A LOT OF OTHER THINGS THAT WE ARE DOING.

I WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO WORKED ON THAT AS WELL.

THAT IS IT.

THANK YOU.

>> TAKE YOU TRUSTEE PEREZ.

>> DOCTOR'S HERO.

>> THANK YOU TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

FIRST I WANT TO THANK [INAUDIBLE].

WE HAVE JOGGED YOU TO EVERY SINGLE EVENT, DAY, NIGHT, MORNING, AFTERNOON, YOUR BEEN A TROOPER HELPING US REPRESENT THE COLLEGE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE SPENDING SOME TIME STUDYING BECAUSE I'M SURE WE TOOK AWAY QUITE A BIT OF YOUR STUDY TIME BY GOING TO EVERY EVENT BUT I PERSONALLY AND I KNOW THE BOARD DOES TRUE APPRECIATE THAT YOU SHOW UP AND THAT YOU REPRESENT GO WELL-PREPARED.

GIVE THE SPEECHES IN YOUR TALKING POINTS ARE ALWAYS ON POINT, THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT.

AGAIN HOPEFULLY YOU'RE MAKING THE TIME TO STUDY.

THE OTHER PART I WANT TO THANK APRIL AND DOCTOR GUTIERREZ FOR COMING TOGETHER AND PUTTING THE WORKSHOP, GOES A REALLY LONG WAY, I'M VERY EXCITED TO SEE HOW THE THREE OF YOU ARE SITTING IN RELATION AND LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUED SUCCESS ON THAT IN THE WORKSHOPS THAT ARE A VERY GOOD IDEA AND I'M GLAD THE THREE OF YOU ARE COLLABORATING IN DOING THAT SO THANK YOU TO THE THREE OF YOU AND EVERYONE IN THE BACKGROUND DOING ADDITIONAL WORK.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO OFFICIALLY INTRODUCE VICE PRESIDENT BREMER, SHE HAS BEEN WITH US WHAT SEEMS LIKE MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS BUT IT'S JUST BEEN A COUPLE OF MONTHS BUT THE FIRST BOARD MEETING UNFORTUNATELY SHE WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND THE ENTIRE THING BECAUSE OF COVID REASONS.

BUT SHE HAS BEEN A GREAT ADDITION TO THE TEAM, SHE'S ALREADY DIGGING IN AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO MANY YEARS OF COLLABORATION, WELCOME DOCTOR BROWN.

>> WELCOME DOCTOR BREMMER.

>> AS DOCTOR SALAZAR MENTIONED HE HAD A GOOD TIME AT THE HALLOWEEN PARADE, I THINK PROBABLY TWO GROUPS THAT HAD THE MOST FUN ONE IS THE CHEERLEADERS AND TO FULLY PAY.

HE WAS REALLY EXCITED TO JOIN HIS FULLY RESTORED TRUCK, BY THE WAY IT LOOKS FANTASTIC.

HIS DAUGHTERS WERE ALSO HAVING A GREAT TIME BUT I THINK HE WAS HAPPIER THAN THEY WERE, THANK YOU FOR DRIVING US AROUND, IT WAS A GREAT EVENT.

I DO HAVE TO SAY THE CHEERLEADERS DID A FANTASTIC JOB, I PROBABLY LOST A FEW HOURS OF MY LIFE DURING THAT THING BECAUSE EVERY TIME THEY THROUGH WHAT OF THE CHEERLEADERS IN THE AIR I WAS JUST HOPING THEY WILL CAPTURE.

BUT YEAH THEY DID A GREAT JOB AND EVERYONE WAS PRETTY EXCITED AND I THINK PEOPLE WERE APPRECIATIVE THAT WE MADE THE EFFORT TO MAKE IT BACK INTO THE PARADE, WE WERE WELL RECEIVED FOR ALL THE STATIONS.

IT'S A GREAT EVENT.

WE HOSTED THE FIRST STUDENT PILOT, WE GOT ABOUT 80 PEOPLE OR SO.

IN OUR FOCUS WAS ON GETTING PATHWAYS, LETTING THE CAREER PATHWAYS, I WANT TO THANK TRUE THROUGH FOR THE SUPPORT BEING READY TO PRESENT IN ENGAGING WITH THE STUDENTS.

WE HAVE A REALLY FUN EVENT WITH THE STUDENTS, I FELT LIKE I WAS BACK IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT IT WAS NEARLY EVERY SINGLE STUDENT ACTUALLY ACTIVELY LISTENING AND I'M CURIOUS ABOUT THE INFORMATION THAT WE WERE PROVIDING SO I'M ACTUALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO COLLECTING THE NAMES OF THE STUDENTS THAT WERE THERE AND E-MAILED THEM BECAUSE THEY ALL HAD SOME HOMEWORK TO DO.

WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN AND OBVIOUSLY MAKE IT LARGER WE FEEL THAT IT WAS WELL RECEIVED AND OBVIOUSLY THE TOPIC ON CAREER PATHWAYS IS APPROPRIATE AND SOMETHING WE NEED TO CONTINUE -- IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE EVERYONE FROM THE COMMUNITY.

I FEEL THEY WERE GETTING A LOT OF MOMENTUM IN THE COMMUNITY OR IMAGE IN

[03:05:05]

RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMMUNITY SEEM TO BE AT A VERY GOOD POINT AND I HOPE THAT WE CAN CONTINUE THE MOMENTUM IN ENGAGING, AND BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TO CAMPUS AND CONTINUE TO DO THAT.

FOR EXAMPLE WE HAD A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS HERE CELEBRATING SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE EFFORTS TO GET US THERE AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, I WANT TO THANK AGAIN ASSEMBLY MEMBER CHRISTINA GARCIA FOR HER HELP OF GETTING $600,000 FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR THE STUDENTS, HUGE THANK YOU.

NOW MANY TIMES I HAVE TO THANK HIM FOR THE SPEAKER TO HELP US SECURE $16 MILLION, THAT IS A LOT OF WORK WITH HIM AND I WAS TELLING TRUSTEE BIRKEY OR TRUSTEE LEWIS IT FEELS ALMOST SURREAL ALL TO GO AHEAD AND ASK FOR SOMEONE FOR $16 MILLION.

I DID IT BUT IT FEELS ODD TO ASK FOR THAT MUCH MONEY AND FOR THE PERSON NOT TO LAUGH AT YOU.

BUT WE HAD GREAT CONVERSATIONS.
