SO CONGRATULATIONS, TRUSTEE PACHECO.

>> ALL RIGHT.

WILL SHE BE GIVING -- TRUSTEE PACHECO, WILL YOU BE MAKING COMMENTS BEFORE YOU LEAVE? WE STILL CAN'T HEAR YOU, RIGHT, DR. FIERRO?

>> I THINK -- I THINK SHE GOT DISCONNECTED.

SO WE CAN KEEP GOING AND I WILL TRY TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER AND TRY TO HELP HER GET BACK IN.

>> OKAY.

SO THEN WE'LL CIRCLE BACK THIS TO HER SO SHE CAN GIVE COMMENTS AGAIN.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> OKAY.

WE'LL DO THAT AGAIN UNLESS WE CAN HEAR HER.

OKAY, TRUSTEE PACHECO, WE'LL CIRCLE BACK FOR YOU TO GIVE BRIEF COMMENTS WHEN YOU GET THE SOUND WORKING.

OKAY, SO NOW WE WILL GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON TO THE INSTALLATION OF RE-ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS.

THEN WE WILL GO AHEAD AND CONDUCT THE ELECTION OF BOARD OFFICERS.

AND AFTER THE ELECTION OF THE BOARD OFFICERS, WE WILL TAKE A 15-MINUTE BREAK.

SO ITEM 2.02.

OKAY, LET'S SEE.

OKAY.

SO I WILL GO AHEAD AND BEGIN THE ELECTION PROCESS BY CALLING FOR A MOTION AND FOR A SECOND TO OPEN NOMINATIONS FOLLOWED BY A VOTE OF THE MEMBERS.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION.

>> OKAY.

>> I'LL SECOND THAT MOTION.

>> OKAY.

SO WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND TO OPEN THE NOMINATIONS.

AND I HAVE TO JUST ADD ONE MORE THING.

I ALSO NEED TO TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE TRUSTEE CAMACHO RODRIGUEZ WHO SERVED AS VICE PRESIDENT OF OUR BOARD LAST YEAR AND TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

JUST WANTED TO THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE THIS PAST YEAR AS OFFICERS.

>> WAIT.

>> YES, GO AHEAD.

[LAUGHTER] >> NICE TRY.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, MARISA.

THIS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL YEAR WITH YOUR PASSION AND GUIDANCE AS PRESIDENT.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

OKAY, SORRY ABOUT THAT.

I'M TRYING TO [INDISCERNIBLE] IT WAS VERY [INDISCERNIBLE] WHICH ARE GREAT BUT TRYING TO TOGGLE BETWEEN THE SCREEN AND [INDISCERNIBLE] CHALLENGING.

OKAY, OKAY, SO WE WILL GO AHEAD AND WE OPEN THE NOMINATIONS HAVE BEEN OPENED.

AND I WILL GO AHEAD AND RECOGNIZE MEMBERS FOR THE NOMINATION OF THE BOARD PRESIDENT.

AFTER THE NOMINATIONS ARE CONCLUDED, I WILL THEN SEE IF THE NOMINEE ACCEPTS THE NOMINATION.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD -- I WILL THEN CALL FOR A MOTION AND A SECOND TO CLOSE THE NOMINATIONS FOLLOWED BY A VOTE OF THE MEMBERS.

AS A REMINDER, DUE TO THE BROWN ACT, ALL [INDISCERNIBLE] ARE CONDUCTING BY A ROLL CALL VOTE.

FOR EVERY VOTE, ANDREA WILL READ EACH OF OUR NAMES AND RECORD OUR VOTE.

OKAY.

SO EACH CANDIDATE WOULD BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY THEY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A STATEMENT TO THE BOARD.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE STATEMENT SHALL EXCEED NO LONGER THAN THREE MINUTES AND THE ORDER OF STATEMENTS SHALL BE IN THE ORDER OF NOMINATIONS.

A ROLL CALL VOTE WILL BE CONDUCTED, BEGINNING WITH THE FIRST CANDIDATE NOMINATED AND PROCEED IN THAT ORDER.

THE CANDIDATE WHO RECEIVES THE MAJORITY OF VOTES WILL BE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD.

WITH THAT, I WILL OPEN NOMINATIONS FOR PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO NOMINATE MR. JAMES CODE BIRKEY FOR PRESIDENT.

ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD PRESIDENT? I DON'T SEE ANY.

DR. FIERRO, DO YOU SEE ANY?

>> NO.

>> OKAY.

SO GIVEN THAT, I WILL GO AHEAD.

WE HAVE A MOTION AND DO WE HAVE A SECOND?

>> SECOND.

>> JUST AS A POINT OF ORDER, I THINK YOU WOULD CLOSE THE NOMINATIONS AT THIS POINT,

THEN TAKE A VOTE TO CLOSE THE NOMINATIONS AND THEN VOTE FOR THE -- >> OKAY.

YES, WE DO HAVE THAT -- OKAY.

I WILL NOW ASK FOR A MOTION TO CLOSE THE NOMINATIONS FOR PRESIDENT.

>> SO MOVED.

>> SO WE HAVE A MOTION TO CLOSE THE NOMINATIONS.

>> SECOND.

>> OKAY, WE HAVE A SECOND.

TRUSTEE BIRKEY HAS ACCEPTED THE NOMINATION.

SINCE THERE IS ONLY ONE CANDIDATE, TRUSTEE BIRKEY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE A CANDIDATE STATEMENT? I'LL MAKE IT SHORT.

I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY.

I'M HONORED TO SERVE IN THIS WAY.

WHEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE APPOINTED HOWEVER MANY YEARS AGO, THREE YEARS AGO NOW, IT SEEMED LIKE MAGIC WHAT MARISA, YOU DID, TO RUN THIS GROUP.

AND I'M EXCITED TO FOLLOW IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS AND YOU LEAVE BIG SHOES TO FILL IN THAT REGARD.

BUT I'M JUST EXCITED ABOUT WHAT'S AHEAD FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WE'RE IN A TOUGH TIME RIGHT NOW, BUT I THINK WE HAVE THE RIGHT KIND OF BOARD TO BE ABLE TO PUSH FORWARD.

SO IT'S EXCITING AND THANK YOU GUYS.

>> OKAY, THANK YOU SO MUCH, TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

I WILL ASK ANDREA TO CONDUCT A ROLL CALL VOTE.

OKAY, STUDENT TRUSTEE WALLACE.

>> AYE.

>> TRUSTEE AVALOS.

WITH THAT, WE'LL MOVE TO OUR OPEN SESSION AGENDA, ITEM 3.01, OUR PRESENTATION TO RECOGNIZE OUR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH.

DR. FIERRO.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

SO FOR OUTSTANDING EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR THE NOVEMBER 2020 IS MR. BEN PENDLETON.

BEN IS NOT HERE WITH US TODAY, BUT I HAVE BEEN ASSURED AND REASSURED THAT HE IS WATCHING OVER LIVESTREAM TODAY.

BEN BEGAN HIS CAREER AT CERRITOS COLLEGE IN AUGUST 1995 IN THE ADMISSIONS AND RECORD DEPARTMENT.

HE WAS ACKNOWLEDGED FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE COLLEGE AND STUDENTS BUT ALL THE HELP HE HAS GIVEN HIS COLLEAGUES OVER THE LAST 25 YEARS.

BEN IS A RESOURCEFUL PROBLEM SOLVER AND WILL ALWAYS MAKE HIMSELF AVAILABLE WHEN NEEDED.

WHEN THE OUTSTANDING SELECTION COMMITTEE WAS PRESENTED WITH BEN'S NOMINATION, THE VOTE WAS UNANIMOUS, AND THIS NEVER HAPPENS.

BEN, YOUR DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, AND WILLINGNESS TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND THE STAFF ARE EXCEPTIONAL.

WE ARE PROUD THAT YOU ARE A CERRITOS COLLEGE EMPLOYEE AND WE COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND DEDICATION.

THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE.

I ALSO HAVE TO SAY THAT BEN HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR.

SO THERE'S SOME FUNNY AND INTERESTING CONVERSATIONS THAT I GET TO HAVE WITH BEN WHEN I'M COMING IN SOMETIMES INTO THE BUILDING.

BACK IN THE DAY WHEN WE USED TO BE ON CAMPUS AND SEE EACH OTHER MORE FREQUENTLY.

SO THANK YOU, BEN, FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO, AND CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN.

>> GOT IT, OKAY.

ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT FIERRO.

AND NOW WE'LL MOVE TO ITEM 6.01, REPORTS AND COMMENTS FROM DISTRICT OFFICIALS.

[6. Reports and Comments from District Officials]

AND THEN I BELIEVE WE'LL START WITH STUDENT TRUSTEE WALLACE.

>> ALL RIGHT.

AND DO WE HAVE A PARTICULAR ORDER THAT WE OTHERWISE GO IN?

[01:05:01]

>> ANY ORDER YOU LIKE IS FINE.

>> I HATE PLAYING FAVORITES.

ALL RIGHT.

TRUSTEE PEREZ.

>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU, EVERYBODY, FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.

I FIRST WANTED TO JUST AGAIN JUST SAY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF MY COLLEAGUES WHO ARE NEWLY ELECTED AND WHO ARE RE-ELECTED.

CONGRATULATIONS AND LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU ON BEHALF OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY.

SO AGAIN, IT'S AN EXCITING TIME I THINK AT THE COLLEGE AND REALLY HAVE LAID A LOT OF GROUNDWORK FOR LONG-TERM SUCCESS.

AND WE JUST HAVE TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS AND OUR EMPLOYEES MOTIVATED AND SUPPORTED DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

SO I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU.

THIS WEEK I SPENT SOME TIME DOING FOUNDATION WORK FOR OUR FOUNDATION.

WE HAD A GOOD FOUNDATION BOARD MEETING.

IT WAS VERY PRODUCTIVE, VERY INFORMATIVE.

AND THEN ALSO HAD A CHANCE TO INTERVIEW SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP I GIVE AND HAD A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO MEE -- I THINK WE INTERVIEWED SIX FANTASTIC YOUNG LADIES WHO ARE ALL STUDYING S.T.E.M., MANY OF THEM WHO ARE TRANSFERRING THIS FALL.

AND I WANTED JUST TO ESPECIALLY ACKNOWLEDGE OUR S.T.E.M.

FACULTY MEMBERS BECAUSE DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS, CAROL AND I WOULD ASK, HOW HAS IT BEEN THIS SEMESTER, TAKING THESE CLASSES DURING A PANDEMIC.

AND ALL OF THEM ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY WERE DEFINITELY CHALLENGES AND IT WAS VERY DIFFERENT, BUT THEY ALL HAD NOTHING BUT THANKFUL APPRECIATION TO SEND TO THEIR FACULTY MEMBERS.

I WANTED TO ACTUALLY SPECIFICALLY ACKNOWLEDGE JEFF BRADBERRY.

I BELIEVE HE'S A CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR.

WOW, YOUR STUDENTS SPEAK GLOWING REMARKS ABOUT YOU.

TO HAVE A STUDENT SAY SHE ACTUALLY LOVED ORGANIC CHEMISTRY BLEW MY MIND.

BUT AGAIN, I JUST WANTED TO THANK ALL THE FACULTY AND STAFF WHO ARE DOING SO MUCH TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE S.T.E.M.

DIVISION.

SO I WANTED TO JUST TO THANK EVERYBODY.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE PEREZ.

TRUSTEE SALAZAR.

>> NO REPORT, THANK YOU.

>> ALL RIGHT.

TRUSTEE AVALOS.

ALL RIGHT.

TRUSTEE LEWIS.

>> I JUST WANT TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WELCOME TRUSTEE MARIANA PACHECO FROM DISTRICT 1.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STEPPING UP AND BECOMING A PART OF OUR BOARD AND WORKING VERY, VERY HARD TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

SO WELCOME, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW YOU OVER THESE NEXT YEARS AND WORKING WITH YOU AS WELL.

AND CONGRATULATIONS, OF COURSE, TO THE OTHER THREE MEMBERS WHO WENT UNOPPOSED.

AND I JUST WANT TO MAKE NOTE THAT SIX OF THE SEVEN TRUSTEES THAT HAVE BEEN UP FOR ELECTION IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS HAVE GONE UNOPPOSED AND THAT IS ALMOST ABSOLUTELY UNHEARD OF.

I REALLY CAN'T THINK OF ANYWHERE ELSE THAT THERE'S SUCH A STRONG SEAL OF APPROVAL FROM OUR COMMUNITIES, THAT NOT A SINGLE PERSON WOULD STEP UP TO RUN FOR THESE SAME SEATS BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH WHAT WE ARE DOING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE TO MAKE SOMEONE WANT TO STEP UP AND RUN.

AND I THINK THAT WE SHOULD TAKE THAT AS A GREAT -- TAKE THAT IN GREAT PRIDE AND THAT THIS COLLEGE IS DOING VERY WELL TO SERVE ITS STUDENTS AND TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY.

SO I ESPECIALLY WANT TO THANK THE COMMUNITIES FOR ALLOWING US TO CONTINUE OUR WORK.

AND I KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE EVEN DOING BETTER BECAUSE GOOD ENOUGH IS NEVER ENOUGH.

AND I THINK THAT WITH TRUSTEE PACHECO ON BOARD, WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB FOR CERTAINLY THE NEXT TWO YEARS AND ONWARDS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

SO THANK YOU AND I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO 2021 AND ALL OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT IT HOLDS FOR US AS A COLLEGE.

SO THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU, TRUSTEE LEWIS.

TRUSTEE LIU.

>> I ALSO WANT TO WELCOME MARIANA PACHECO.

WELCOME.

AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR ALL THE NEWLY ELECTED COLLEAGUES.

AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

[01:10:02]

THAT'S ALL.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALL RIGHT.

THANKS.

DID I HEAR TRUSTEE AVALOS? I'M TRYING TO SEE IF I CAN GET YOU ON.

TRUSTEE PACHECO, DO YOU HAVE A REPORT?

>> MAYBE TRUSTEE AVALOS WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK BEFORE ME?

>> TRUSTEE AVALOS, ARE YOU ON?

>> YEAH, I'M ON, MM-HM.

IT'S JUST MY DOGS BARKING SO I'M TRYING TO NOT HAVE THEM BARK.

SO [LAUGHS].

>> IT'S 2020.

I UNDERSTAND.

DO YOU HAVE A REPORT?

>> I HAVE NO REPORT.

MY DOG'S BARKING PRETTY BADLY BACK HERE.

SO JUST HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL.

>> SORRY, THE DOG IS NOT AN ELECTED OFFICIAL, BUT APPARENTLY I THINK HE HAS A REPORT.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE AVALOS.

TRUSTEE PACHECO, NOW TO YOU.

>> ALL RIGHT.

FIRST I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE AND SORRY FOR ALL MY -- AT THE BEGINNING, ALL MY DIFFICULTIES.

BUT NOW I'M ON MY REGULAR COMPUTER AND IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I'LL DOUBLE-CHECK TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY LAPTOP BECAUSE I DO NEED IT BECAUSE I GO BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE LAPTOP AND THE COMPUTER.

SO I DO NEED TO GET THAT FIXED.

BUT THANK YOU FOR WELCOMING ME.

AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU.

AND ALSO MEETING YOU IN PERSON.

MY CHILDREN WENT TO CERRITOS COLLEGE.

SO I'M VERY PROUD OF THE COLLEGE AND ALL ITS EFFORTS.

AND I JUST WANT TO PUT MY LITTLE GRAIN OF SALT.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE PACHECO.

AND, YES, WELCOME TO THE BOARD.

WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO SERVE WITH YOU.

AND HOPEFULLY YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH US.

WE'RE DEFINITELY -- SEGUEING INTO MY OWN REPORT HERE.

BUT IT'S EXCITING TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD.

I'VE BEEN REALLY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED SINCE JOINING THE BOARD THREE YEARS AGO, HOW OVER THESE THREE YEARS IT'S FELT LIKE MORE AND MORE THERE'S A LOT OF KIND OF COLLABORATIVE WORK THAT THE BOARD MEMBERS HAVE TAKEN ON.

NOT A LOT OF IN-FIGHTING.

I WANT TO BE THANKFUL FOR THAT.

I MEAN, WE HAVE OUR DISAGREEMENTS, BUT WE HAVE A REALLY CLEAR SHARED GOAL AND VISION.

THAT'S COMFORTING.

WHEN WE DISAGREE, WE'RE ALL TRYING TO CORRAL TOWARDS THE SAME THINGS.

I'M HONORED TO SERVE WITH THE OTHER FOLKS ON THIS BOARD.

SO WELCOME.

HOPEFULLY YOU ENJOY A VERY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH US.

SO, I WANT TO ALSO THANK -- CONGRATULATE THE OTHER THREE MEMBERS THAT, AS TRUSTEE LEWIS POINTED OUT, RAN UNOPPOSED.

AND, YEAH, I WOULD LIKE TO ALSO BELIEVE THAT THAT COMES FROM A UNIQUE SITUATION THAT THE BOARD IS IN IN TERMS OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH WE HAVE WORKED VERY HARD TO SERVE AS DILIGENTLY AND CAPABLY AS POSSIBLE.

BUT I ALSO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT IT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE HARD WORK OF THE STAFF AS WELL.

GOOD -- I FEEL LIKE GOOD BOARD POLICIES ARE HELPFUL AND THEY GUIDE A LOT, BUT THOSE AREN'T THE DAY-TO-DAY ACTIONS THAT OUR STAFF AND FACULTY ARE BUSY CARRYING OUT.

SO THAT'S REALLY WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD.

AND I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE IN YOUR COMMUNITY, OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY, FOR THAT DAY-TO-DAY WORK THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN STUDENTS' LIVES AND BY EXTENSION MAKES SUCH A BIG DIFFERENCE IN OUR LOCAL ECONOMY AND WHO WE ARE AS A CULTURE HERE IN SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES.

THAT'S MY LONG WAY OF LEAVING YOU WITH HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE.

UNTIL I SEE YOU SOON ON THE OTHER SIDE.

DR. FIERRO, DO YOU HAVE A REPORT?

>> THANK YOU, TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

SO JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, I WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME TRUSTEE PACHECO TO THE CERRITOS COLLEGE BOARD AND THE CERRITOS COLLEGE FAMILY.

WE ARE EXCITED TO WORK WITH YOU AND CONTINUE TO BUILD ON THE GREAT WORK THAT IS

[01:15:05]

BEING CONDUCTED AT CERRITOS COLLEGE.

CERTAINLY WE HAVE DONE A LOT OF GOOD THINGS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, BUT REMAINS A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE.

AND WHAT YOU CAN COUNT ON IS THE COMMITMENT OF ALL OF US TO CONTINUE TO MOVE THE INSTITUTION FORWARD.

IN MY OPINION AND WHAT HAS ALWAYS IMPRESSED ME THE MOST AND CONTINUES TO IMPRESS ME ABOUT THE CERRITOS COLLEGE FAMILY IS THE COMMITMENT THAT WE HAVE TO OUR STUDENTS AND TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.

YOU WOULD BE HARD-PRESSED TO FIND ANY OF OUR COLLEAGUES ON CAMPUS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE BEST INTEREST OF THE STUDENTS AT HEART.

SOMETIMES WE DISAGREE ON HOW TO DO THINGS, BUT WE HARDLY EVER DISAGREE ON WHAT IT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO MAKE IT RIGHT FOR THE STUDENTS.

SO HOW WE GET THERE, SOMETIMES WE HAVE OUR DISAGREEMENTS, BUT TO MAKE IT RIGHT FOR THE STUDENTS IS NEVER A QUESTION.

THAT IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MAKES ME THE MOST PROUD OF BEING AT CERRITOS COLLEGE AND I HOPE YOU FIND THE SAME.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO CONGRATULATE TRUSTEE PEREZ.

LOOKING FORWARD TO FOUR MORE YEARS WITH YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THE LAST YEAR OF BEING THE BOARD PRESIDENT.

I'M SURE SOMETHING THAT YOU WILL NOT MISS MY FREQUENT TEXTS, PHONE CALLS, AND EMAILS.

YOU WILL GET A LITTLE BREAK THIS YEAR.

AND WE WILL MOVE THAT RESPONSIBILITY TO TRUSTEE BIRKEY.

SO HOPEFULLY HE WILL NOT BLOCK MY EMAILS OR TEXTS AS FREQUENT AS SOMETIMES THEY BECOME.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE.

I ALWAYS APPRECIATE YOU GET THE AGENDAS, YOU READ THE STAFF, AND WHEN WE HAVE THE CONVERSATIONS, YOU ARE READY TO GO WITH THAT.

SO THANK YOU.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

TRUSTEE SALAZAR, THANK YOU TOO.

FOUR MORE YEARS WORKING WITH YOU AND CONTINUE TO BUILD STRONG RELATIONS.

I PARTICULARLY APPRECIATE THIS PAST YEAR THE FEEDBACK AND THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME IN MULTIPLY THINGS, BUT PARTICULARLY ON THE AREAS RELATED TO COVID AND THE INFORMATION YOU GAVE ME WHEN WE FIRST STARTED WAS VERY GOOD SO I COULD COUNT THAT IN MY DECISION-MAKING.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR CONTINUING TO DO THAT.

I APPRECIATE YOU AND OBVIOUSLY THIS YEAR YOUR EXPERTISE HAS BECOME EVEN MORE HANDY THAN BEFORE.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

TRUSTEE AVALOS, THANK YOU AGAIN.

IT'S ALWAYS A PLEASURE WORKING WITH YOU.

THIS YEAR WE DID NOT GET TO TALK AS FREQUENTLY BECAUSE YOU ESCAPED THE OFFICER POSITION.

BUT MORE FREQUENT CONVERSATIONS AND TEXTS WILL CONTINUE NOW THAT YOU ARE BACK BEING THE CLERK OF THE BOARD.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH, CARMEN.

APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING AND AGAIN YOUR COMMITMENT TO THE CAMPUS AND THE COMMUNITY.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK OUTGOING TRUSTEE MARTHA CAMACHO-RODRIGUEZ.

WE APPRECIATE THE WORK AND SUPPORT YOU'VE DONE OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS.

IT CERTAINLY HAS BEEN A LOT OF WORK AND YOUR CONTRIBUTION WAS ESSENTIAL TO HELP US GET TO WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY.

AND IN GENERAL, I'M VERY THANKFUL TO WORK WITH ALL OF YOU AND PARTICULARLY WITHIN THESE LAST TEN MONTHS.

I CAN'T IMAGINE WORKING WITH A BETTER GROUP OF PEOPLE.

IT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE AT MANY TIMES, BUT CONSTANT COMMUNICATION AND THE ABILITY TO TROUBLESHOOT OF ALL OF YOU AND OTHERS THAT ARE NOT IN THIS MEETING HAVE BEEN ESSENTIAL TO GET US MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

AND UNTIL A DIFFICULT YEAR IN OTHER ASPECTS, IT HAS BEEN ALSO A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR CERRITOS COLLEGE.

DESPITE THE ISSUES THAT WE HAVE FACED, WE HAVE CONTINUED TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

WE HAVE RECEIVED RECOGNITION AT THE STATE LEVEL AND NATIONAL LEVEL FOR THE WORK THAT WE HAVE DONE, EVEN DURING THE PANDEMIC.

AND AS MENTIONED, YES, THAT IS PARTLY DUE TO THE LEADERSHIP OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, BUT THAT IS WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD.

I WANT TO RECOGNIZE OUR FACULTY.

THEY HAVE BEEN REALLY DOING AN INCREDIBLE WORK, GETTING OUR STUDENTS TO WHERE THEY

[01:20:06]

NEED TO BE, ACCOMMODATING IN THEIR STYLES, THEIR TEACHING METHODOLOGIES, DEVELOPING MATERIAL.

THE EFFORT HAS BEEN FANTASTIC AND I'M INCREDIBLY APPRECIATIVE.

I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH MANY OF OUR STUDENTS.

THEY STILL ENROLL.

AS YOU KNOW, I DO THE PRESIDENT'S HOUR AND THEY COME.

AND THEN THEY CONTACT ME FOR SURE.

SO THE COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS GOOD, VERY FEW COMPLAINTS.

AND THE FEW COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN EASILY ADDRESSED BECAUSE OUR FACULTY AND OUR ADMINISTRATORS AND OUR STAFF HAVE BEEN PRETTY OPEN TO THE FEEDBACK AND VERY QUICKLY WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE OUR STUDENTS.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR STAFF, PARTICULARLY THE CLASSIFIED STAFF THAT IS ON CAMPUS.

THE CAMPUS RUNS SMOOTHLY EVEN WHEN WE ARE AWAY.

IT LOOKS NICE, IT LOOKS CLEAN.

REGARDLESS OF WHERE WE ARE, THEY CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN IT PRISTINE.

SO THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT.

IT MEANS A LOT FOR ALL OF US THAT WHEN WE GO TO CAMPUS OR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, WHEN THEY DRIVE BY, THE CAMPUS STILL LOOKS GOOD.

SO THANK YOU.

AND ALL OF OUR ADMINISTRATORS DOING THINGS FROM THE DISTANCE IS COMPLICATED AND EVERYONE HAS BEEN FLEXIBLE AND PATIENT.

SOMETIMES WE'RE NOT HAVING THE BEST DAYS.

WE'RE JUST HUMANS AND WE'RE ALL DEALING WITH OUR OWN THINGS AT HOME AND ELSEWHERE.

AND THE PATIENCE AND THE GRACE HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF EVERYONE'S BEHAVIOR WITHIN THIS TIME.

SO THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.

AGAIN, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

IT HAS BEEN A GREAT YEAR, DIFFICULT ON SOME OCCASIONS, BUT AGAIN, ALL OF YOU HAVE RISED TO THE OCCASION OF KEEPING THIS TOGETHER, OUR LEADERSHIP TASKS.

SORRY I'M GOING TOO LONG, BUT THERE'S TOO MANY PEOPLE TO THANK.

OUR CCFF PRESIDENT, FACULTY SENATE, CLASSIFIED PRESIDENT, STUDENT TRUSTEE.

WE MEET FREQUENTLY AND OUR CONVERSATIONS ARE GOOD, SUBSTANTIAL, AND WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS QUICKLY AND MOVE THE CAMPUS INTO A POSITIVE WAY IN THE BEST MANNER THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY.

THANK YOU FOR INDULGING THE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT DATA AND THE BEST WAY TO KEEP GOING.

BUT I THINK IF WE DO IT RIGHT, WE'LL COME OUT AS STRONGER.

SPEAKING OF DATA, TODAY 23,000 COVID-19 POSITIVE CASES.

THAT IS ALMOST TWICE AS MANY AS THE LAST TIME THAT THEY REPORTED THAT RECORD.

SO, YOU KNOW, IT IS HERE AND IT'S GOING TO BE COMPLICATED ONCE WE GET BACK INTO JANUARY AND FEBRUARY.

SO I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO DO WHAT YOU ARE FEELING LIKE DOING ONCE WE GET TO THE HOLIDAYS.

I WILL ASK YOU TO ACT AS CAUTIOUS AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AND TAKE AS MANY PRECAUTIONS AS YOU CAN BECAUSE WHAT WE ARE GOING T EXPERIENCE IN JANUARY IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE OF A LARGER PROPORTION THAN WHAT WE ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING.

WE ARE GOING TO DELAY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE GROUND CLASSES, THE FEW GROUND CLASSES THAT WE HAVE ON CAMPUS TO TRY TO START AS LATE AS POSSIBLE DURING JANUARY SO WE CAN TRY TO RIDE THE WORST OF THE WAVE IF WE CAN DO THAT.

BUT AGAIN, WE'LL COUNT ON WHAT YOU DO, TAKING YOUR OWN PRECAUTIONS SO WE DON'T CONTINUE TO INCREASE THE CASES AND WE DON'T BECOME ANOTHER STATISTIC.

SO PLEASE FOLLOW AS MANY PRECAUTIONS AS YOU DO -- AS YOU CAN.

THERE IS AN APP.

I HAD A CONVERSATION TODAY, A BRIEF TEXT EXCHANGE WITH TRUSTEE PEREZ, THAT IS AVAILABLE FOR THE IPHONE AND ANDROIDS THAT ESSENTIALLY ONCE YOU ENABLE THE APP, HELPS YOU TRACK COVID-19 CASES.

SO IF YOU COME IN CONTACT, RELATIVELY CLOSE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS TESTS POSITIVE, OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TO OPT IN TO THE APP AND THE PEOPLE THAT YOU CAN TRACK -- NOT TRACK BUT THAT THE PHONE WILL NOTIFY YOU IF YOU ARE IN PROXIMITY ALSO HAVE TO OPT IN TO THE APP.

SO I WILL ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK AT THE APP AND YOU FEEL GOOD WITH IT, TO DOWNLOAD IT AND USE IT, PARTICULARLY DURING THESE HOLIDAY SESSION.

[01:25:04]

WHEN YOU GO TO THE STORE AND ALL THAT, IT MAKES SENSE TO KNOW IF YOU'RE GETTING INTO AN AREA THAT COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE BEEN EXPOSED, THEY HAVE ALREADY TESTED POSITIVE, AND IT MAKES NOT ONLY YOUR LIFE EASIER BUT THE CONTACT TRACING EASIER.

SO I ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE A LOOK.

AND IF YOU FEEL IT IS SOMETHING THAT WILL BENEFIT YOU, TO USE IT.

OTHER THAN THAT, AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, EVERYONE, FOR A DIFFICULT BUT A GREAT YEAR AS WELL AT THE SAME TIME.

THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

>> ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU, DR. FIERRO.

AND I ALREADY GAVE ME REPORT.

SO I THINK WITH THIS, WE CAN GO TO CLOSED SESSION.

[7. Closed Session]

IS THAT RIGHT? ALL RIGHT.

>> THAT IS CORRECT.

WE WILL HAVE TWO -- THREE READOUTS, THAT IS CORRECT?

>> THREE.
